Lunchtime Love
As he was immersed in the endless sea of paperwork that cluttered his desk, Xyx did not notice the passing of time until a gentle knock at the door of his office roused him from his reverie.
"Come in," he called, expecting to see the familiar face of a colleague.
To his surprise, Elena appeared at the threshold, her arms cradling a sizeable tote bag, her lips curved in a warm, impromptu smile.
"Ellie! To what do I owe the pleasure?" he exclaimed, his face lighting up as he rose from the leather swivel chair to envelop her in a welcoming embrace. He pulled back slightly and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek, a gesture that spoke volumes about the closeness they shared.
Her eyes sparkled in response, and her smile broadened into a bright, affectionate gesture. "I brought reinforcements," Elena quipped, revealing a container from which wafted the rich, savory scent of home cooking. "I made you mofongo. Thought you might appreciate a taste of Puerto Rico during this paperwork siege."
"Mofongo?" Xyx echoed, playful bewilderment dancing in his eyes. "Sounds like an adventure for the palate."
Elena's laughter echoed throughout the room, making the aroma wafting from the container seem even more comforting."Imagine mash plantains kissed with garlic and paired with crunchy pork rinds. I tailored it with chicken and veggies just for you."
The tender act seemed to warm the room and Xyx's heart swelled. "You spoil me rotten," he admitted, his toneblending playful accusation and heartfelt appreciation. "Though, I'm quite certain there's a 'no gift' policy around these parts."
Elena raised an eyebrow in playful reprimand. "Think of it as a culinary rescue mission. I can't let you wither away."
Right on cue, Xyx's stomach growled in time, which they both welcomed with laughter. "Starvation dodged. So, my dear, will this be a dine-and-dash, or might I tempt you to stay?"
He needed no confirmation from her gentle smile."I couldn't leave you to face this feast alone."
As their banter continued, their playful exchange echoed around the room as Xyx playfully declared, "You'll have to feed me then. My hands are quite fullwith work."
Elena's voice was firm but tender, as she lightly pushed against his shoulder. "Only if you promise to take a real break with me."

A profound sense of gratitude washed over him as he gazed at the gleaming band that encircled his finger. "Ellie, you're my cornerstone," he said earnestly, his hand seeking hers. "You're the 'more' I never knew I needed."
Her hand in his was a silent pact, and her smile was a testament to their bond. "I love you, Xyx," she whispered, a vow in her voice, "now and always."
