No One Left

Strange to admit there's just no one left
From the life I used to know.
Strange to see that person looking in the mirror
Just ain't what I thought she would be.
Slowly I'm shelling out
Piece upon piece
The girl I used to be.
Pretty soon there will be nothing left
To show myself for being me.
And so there's simply no one left
From the old school.
Nothing left
From the old way.
As I walk through the schoolyard
Where we used to play
I can't help but remember you always being there.
And so where are you now?
And where are you going?
Hell, you're probably just as confused as me.
But we've grown so far apart.
All of you... each and every one of you.
So I'll simply never know.
Yet echoes still ring in my ears
Of the childhood games
You used to play;
And I was never allowed to play.
Memories of being on the schoolyard
Alone and unafraid to be alone.
I'd retreat into my own mind
Where it felt safe away from all of you
So how can I say there's no one left
When there was never anyone there to begin with?
