Epilogue Pt. 2

After everyone left for the night, Johnny and Karla climb into his truck. "Where are you taking me?"

"It's a surprise, Love." He replies. "Just put on the blindfold."

"Fine, but you better not be driving me to my death in an alleyway." She jokes, tying the bandana Johnny handed her, over her eyes.

"I would never do that to you." Johnny answers.

"Uh huh, you know I can sense you are smirking at me while waving your hand in front of my face." Johnny stops doing what he was called out for and turns on the truck instead. He goes and drives off to his destination. When the vehicle stops, Karla asks again, but it's met with silence. "Johnny?" She asks, worriedly. Again no answer. "Johnny this isn't funny." She tries to take the bandana off.

Large hands cover her paws, startling the pup. She starts fighting against the supposed attacker, but her tiny paws are no match for the stanger's build. "Calm down Love, it's just me." Her boyfriend's voice hits her ears. "Sorry I didn't answer, but I needed to put the finishing touches on the surprise."

"Surprise? What surprise?" Karla asks. Johnny helps her out of the cabin and leads her to a blanket layed out on the grass before taking off her blindfold. "Oh, Johnny, thank you." She jumps into his arms and wraps hers around his neck. "This is amazing."

"I thought it was time to take you out on an official date." Johnny sets her down on the blanket and sits beside her. "So, the two that came onstage after we announced the donations, are they your siblings?"

"Really, small talk, you gonna start with that?" Karla looks at him. He nods his head, half embarrassed. She chuckles. "Partly, the little pup I rushed to hug is actually my niece. Her and my brother left town after my mom died. I hadn't seen them since. Thank you for that."

"That was actually your dad's idea." Johnny confesses. "He thought that you'd want to see them."

"I still can't thank you enough for what you did at the show."

"After you told me why you didn't want to go to the hospital when the theater collapsed I got the idea. Running it by Buster was easy, he still feels responsible for the accident. The rest of the cast already considered you family and were more than willing to help out."

"My turn to ask a question. How, if you don't mind me asking, did your dad get into doing gang work?"

"It's ok, when I was younger, I got really sick. Mum and Dad also couldn't pay for the treatment. One day, I ended up with bronchitis on top of everything else. The doctors all thought I wouldn't last through the night. I remember Dad saying he was going to fix everything before kissing my head and kissing Mum, then he was gone. I fell asleep before he got back. The next thing I remember is waking up feeling better than I had in a long time. Mum finally got him to explain how he got the money. He was vague at first, saying that there was no need for her to work, that he would take care of everything from now on." Karla watches Johnny as he explains everything with a forlorn expression.

"That's why you mum's not with you." She infers. Johnny looks at her with his head cocked to the side. 'Is that how I look when I do that?' "I could tell there was something going on with your family."

"Yeah soon it came out that he was robbing banks and stores to get the money for us to live off of. Mum got annoyed and said she didn't want to be married to a criminal, so she packed up everything that didn't remind her of Dad and left."

"She left you!" Karla asks, astounded.

"Yeah, she claimed in a note she left that I'd be too much like Dad when I grow up."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." Karla looks down, ashamed by her own question.

Johnny sees how downtrodden his girlfriend is and stands up. "Come on, get up."

"What?"

"Get up. I want to dance with you." Johnny holds out his hand. Karla smiles and takes his hand. He leads her a little ways off the blanket.

"What song do you have in mind?"

"Oh, I think you'd know it." Johnny replies cryptically, pulling out his phone and setting it up to play. The music starts up and Karla's eyes widen.

Johnny Karla Both

"In the beginning
I never thought it would be you.
When we were chillin',
smiling in the photo booth."

Johnny places one of his hands in Karla's paw and the other around her waist. He spins her around and pulls her back to his chest. She leans side to side to look in his eyes.

"But we got closer, yeah,
'til you were eating off my spoon.
You're coming over,
and we would talk all afternoon."

Karla pulls back and dances around him, shaking her tail a bit. She runs her finger up his chin. When she waves him closer, he grabs her paws again and pulls her back towards him so he can spin her again.

"Tonight we'll just get drunk,
disturb the peace."

Johnny mocks the line by handing her a plastic wine glass filled with grape juice. Karla laughs as she downs the 'wine' and tosses the glass over her shoulder, silently reminding herself to pick it up later.

"Bind your hands all over me."

Karla runs her paws down Johnny's chest, feeling his abs.

"And the you bit your lip,
whisper and say...."

Johnny pulls her close until her chest is touching his.

"We're going all the way."

Karla lightly shoves his chest to push herself away and does pirouettes til she's about a yard away from him.

"Tonight take me to the other side.
Sparks fly like the 4th of July,
Just take me to the other side.
I see that sexy look in your eyes."

Johnny watches her in awe and sees her eyes are half lidded when she looks at him.

"And I know, we ain't friends anymore."

"If we walk down this road,
we'll be lovers for sure."

Karla struts forward closing the distance between the two and takes Johnny's hand.

"So tonight, kiss me like it's do or die
And take me to the other side."

Johnny and Karla lean forward to kiss, but Johnny stops just short as an idea pops into his head.

"Wait, this could be perfect,
but we won't know unless we try."

"I know you're nervous,
so just sit back and let me drive."

Karla places her paw on his chest, right above his quick beating heart. She gives him a reassuring smile. Johnny smiles back and spins her around to the picnic blanket and dips her.

"Tonight we'll just get drunk,
disturb the peace."

Karla also mocks the line and as Johnny dips her, she grabs the other plastic glass and hands it to her partner. He silently makes a toast in her direction and downs it in one go. He drops it in anticipation to act out the next line.

"Bind your hands all over me."

He grazes his hands over the fur on her sides making shivers go down her spine.

"And then you bite your lip
whisper and say..."

"We're going all the way." Johnny whispers in her ear, after pulling her close to him. She looks at him in shock as he takes back the lead and spins them around the grass.

"Tonight, take me to the other side.
Sparks fly like the 4th of July.
Just take me to the other side.
I see that sexy look in your eyes."

Finally stopping, Karla is face to chest with her boyfriend. She looks up and sees Johnny smirking a bit. He takes a small step forward with her taking an equal step back. They continue stepping like that until the last line when Johnny's expression changed to an animal looking at their mate. He leans closer to her.

"And I know, we ain't friends anymore."

"If we walk down this road,
we'll be lovers for sure."

Karla, blushing through her fur, slips in between his arm and side. He turns around and sees her with a slight smirk of her own, happy she evaded him.

"So tonight, kiss me like it's do or die,
and take me to the other side."

Johnny smirks to himself and chases after her, the pup dancing carefree around the picnic blanket.

"Woah woah woah woah
Woah woah woah woah
Woah woah woah woah"

Karla grabs the bottle of grape juice and puts the mouth of the bottle to her lips, taking a gulp before moving the bottle away from her mouth. When she did, she noticed Johnny in front of her with a shocked look on his face. She blushes in embarrassment and holds the bottle out to him.

"Tonight we'll just get drunk,
disturb the peace."

Johnny takes the bottle and repeats her action, letting her know he didn't mind what she had done. He sets the, now empty, bottle down and wraps his arms around her body.

"Find your hands all over me."

Karla leans into his fur, loving the smell of the forest he emits.

"And then you bite your lip,
whisper and say..."

"We're going all the way." Karla looks up and places her paws on Johnny's neck pulling him close enough that her mouth brushes his, teasing him before pulling out of his arms.

"Tonight, take me to the other side.
Sparks fly like the 4th of July.
Just take me to the other side.
I see that sey look in your eyes."

Karla goes spinning around again in her own little world while Johnny watches, trying to find a good time to join her.

"And I know, we ain't friends anymore."

Karla spins ever closer to her partner and he takes the chance by grabbing hold of her paw and letting himself be pulled into the dance. They both aren't even really paying attention to the word just letting the music take control.

"If we walk down this road,
we'll be lovers for sure."

"So tonight, kiss me like it's do or die,
and take me to the other side."

"Woah woah woah

"Take me to the other side."

"Woah woah woah"

"Take me to the other side."

Karla and Johnny end the dance with the gorilla dipping his girlfriend and everything is quiet, save for the couples breathing. All of a sudden, clapping fills the night air. Johnny, shocked by the noise, drops his girlfriend on her back. "Ow! Johnny what the he-" Karla complains before cutting herself off. The couple notices the large group of animals that gathered around them. Johnny and Karla look at each other as the gorilla reaches out his hand to help her up. They watch as the crowd around them cheer and a few wave around bills, wanting to pay for the performance. Before anyone could even move towards the couple, however, a siren sounds into the night. The animals make a path for a rhino police officer to march up to the couple.

"What do we have here? A couple of animals disrupting the calm." He assumes.

"That's not what was happening, officer." Johnny starts, a few animals in the crowd agree to his comment.

"Johnny, wait." Karla says, placing her paw on his bicep.

"Ok smart guy, I'm taking you in." The officer announces, coming closer to the gorilla. Johnny, in turn, shrugs Karla's paw off him and slowly moves her behind him, like he did when he saw the bears. Karla, worried about what the officer could do to her too, allows Johnny to move her. The rhino places Johnny's arms behind his back and handcuffs him. "Let's go." The gorilla is led through the crowd, everyone quietly watching. Karla follows behind, hoping to stop this from going any farther.

"What you got there, Chuck?"

"This guy and his girlfriend were making a scene in the park." Chuck tells the police detective.

"Ok but that doesn't explain why he is handcuffed but she isn't."

"This fellow was in clear defiance of Code 10-91b." Chuck answers.

"I just wanted-" Johnny starts, but is quickly quieted by Chuck.

"Please, officer, we were on a date and Johnny asked me to dance. We didn't plan for the crowd to show up." Karla explains.

"Hold on, Johnny? As in the Johnny that sang in the Moon Theater singing competition?" The detective asks.

Johnny, Karla, and Chuck all look at each other in shock. "Uh, yes sir." Johnny answers.

"Chuck, let him go. There is obviously nothing wrong in what they were doing here."

Chuck gives a bewildered look to the higher up but follows the order. As soon as Johnny is released, Karla rushes to him. "I'm ok, Love. I'm fine." He looks at the detective. "Thank you sir."

"It's no problem. My family was in the audience a few months ago. My kids look up to you, both of you. It's the least I could do." He turns to Chuck. "Let's go, we still have more of our patrol to finish." Chuck glares at Johnny before leaving. "Sorry about him, he's fresh out of the academy. I'll get him straightened out. You two have a great rest of your night." He tells them, tipping his hat to them. Waving the crowd away as he heads to the patrol car, he is soon stopped by Karla who rushes up next to him. Johnny watches as the two have a conversation, Karla laughs and the detective continues to the patrol car.

Karla pads back to her boyfriend, smiling widely. "Well that was terrifying." She says with a chuckle.

Johnny chuckles as well, "I guess our new lives as singers saved our fur."

"I guess so, What a crazy life we've had in the past year and a half."

"And I think working for Mr. Moon, our lives will get even crazier." Johnny adds. "Do you want me to take you home? I mean, this isn't an ideal first date."

"No, the night's still young. We have time to fix it, besides almost having my boyfriend arrested for wanting to dance. Makes it seem like we're in 'Pawloose'. It also makes it memorable."

"Speaking of being arrested, what did you ask the detective before he left?" Johnny asks.

"Oh, I was wondering what the 'Code' Chuck tried to arrest you for. Code 10-91b is Noisy Animal." Karla says, laughing.

"Well, I mean, he wasn't wrong. We may be making more noise if we watch 'Pawloose'. I was thinking that would be a great second date." Johnny jokes.

"Already thinking ahead, I like it. But, uh, can we finish this date first."

"Of course." Johnny answers, kissing her on the forehead before making their way back to the blanket.
