Chapter 10

Johnny thumps the piano keys in frustration. "Uggghh..." He groans while rubbing his hands down his face.

"Yes, that was very bad." Miss. Crawly bluntly says, as she pours more coffee.

"Johnny, come in. Over." Said gorilla looks at his jacket, worried.

"Oh Johnny, your jacket's talking."

"Johnny, where are ya?" He rushes over to the jacket so he can answer his dad.

"Dad, what's going on? Over." Johnny's face drops when he hears what his dad had to say. He says a quick apology to Miss. Crawly, and ran out of the room.

"Whaddya mean you gotta leave now?" Buster asks when Johnny caught up to the koala.

"I know. I'm so sorry. It's just, I've got this family business thing." Johnny explains.

"Do I need to start worrying about your commitment here Johnny? Tell me no..." Buster pinches the bridge of his nose.

"No. Absolutely not. I promise it won't happen again." Johnny says quickly.

"It better not."

"Thank you Mr. Moon." Johnny rushes out, almost running over Karla in the process. She grabs his arm and stands up in front of him.

"Johnny? Is everything ok?" She asks.

"Uh, yeah, everything is fine. I gotta go." Johnny answers frantically, unconsciously kissing her on the forehead. She stands there in shock as the gorilla passes her.

A annoying laugh pulls Karla out of her state. She looks down to see, to no surprise, Mike placing his paw on his leg to keep himself standing. She rolls her eyes and starts to walk around him, purposely stepping on the end of his tail. "Hey! Watch where you're going 'Ms.-puppy-love'."

This makes Karla stop and turn around, losing the smirk she had. "What?" She feigns confusion.

"Did you hear me? Or were you still reeling from that kiss?" Mike questions. "You stepped on my tail!" He rubs the sore spot.

"Oh my," Karla places her paw on her chest. "I'm so sorry." She says with the faintest hint of sarcasm, hoping Mike wouldn't notice.

Sadly, for her, he did and got angrier. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"

Losing the confusion act, she smirks. "No~! Why would I do a thing like that? After all I'm just a love sick puppy dog. Or was it Ms.-Puppy-love?" With that she turns around so fast, the tip of her black and white striped tail brushes across him enough that he ends up being shoved to the ground. The rest of the cast, who were already in the hallway due to the commotion Johnny started, starts laughing at Mike. He looks around and storms out, well more like scurries out.

"Hey Dad, ready to go?" Karla asks when she skates up to the hospital, having left right after rehearsal.

"Yeah, Kiddo, but- uh- I don't think the doctor would recommend me to ride on the back of my daughter as she skates around town." Allen smirks a bit.

"You really think that lowly of me? Of course I'm not going to do that. I called a taxi. They should be coming up right... about.... now." Karla points to the street where a yellow taxi cab pulls up.

"How do you manage to do that every time?" Allen asks, looking at his daughter in shock.

"I used my heightened hearing, of course." Allen widens one of his eyes, not really believing his daughter. "Fine, you're no fun. I saw him pull up on the app. Just get in." Karla rolls her eyes at him.

"Where to, Girly?" The driver asks. Karla gives him the address and they are off.

"You seem different today? Everything going alright at the theater?" Allen asks.

"Yeah, everything is fine. I'm, uh, helping someone to re-audition." Karla answers, absentminded.

"Ok, Kiddo, what's going on?"

"You remember Johnny? The gorilla from the funeral?"

"Yeah."

"Well it turns out that he is one of the cast for this competition." Karla looks at her dad for his reaction. He keeps his composure, making it so hard to detect any emotion. "Dad?"

Before he can answer, the driver stops the cab in front of their house. "Alright you two, here we are."

"Thanks, and here." Karla pulls out a few bills and hands them to the driver. The guy flips through the bills to see a 9 buck tip. He looks in shock at the pup, but then smiles. She smiles back and walks with her dad to the front door. As soon as the door is closed, Karla turns to her dad. "Ok, it's just us now, is there anything you want to tell me about Johnny being in the competition that has you like this?" She asks, as they sit down on the couch.

"It's nothing, just how he spoke to you while you were in the hospital and then again at the funeral, it was like you were old friends just catching up again. It reminded me of your mom and I."

"Oh, dad, I didn't mean to-"

"No, it's fine. Honestly, I want someone like that for you to have later in life."

"Later in life? Dad, where is this coming from? You better not be planning on leaving anytime soon."

"No Kiddo, that's not what I mean. I mean to have by your side. Someone that will be next to you regardless of what happens."

Karla realizes now what her dad is getting at. She blushes "You, you aren't actually shipping me with Johnny, are you?" Allen only replies with a sly grin. "Dad, are you kidding me?!" Unconsciously, her voice gains a bit of a british accent like Johnny's. Her eyes widen as does her dad's.

"Is there anything else that happened today?" Allen grins mischiefly.

Karla's blush grows and she looks down. "He may have kissedmeontheforehead." She says quickly.

"What was that?" Allen's smirk is gone and a frown takes its place.

"I said 'He may have kissed me on the forehead.'." She answers again, rubbing her arm. "I don't think he really realized what he did until after but he was already gone by the time I snapped out of the shock, again." She jerks her head up. "I got it. I know what song to sing." She races to her room and slams the door. "Ok. Let's see how this will sound." She grins at the screen.

That night, Ash, exhausted from the day's rehearsal, enters her shared apartment. As soon as she opens the door she hears loud music blasting from the living room.

'I want love to forget that you offended me,
how you have defended me when everybody tore me down.
change my friends to enemies'

"Baby, I'm back." Ash calls out. She opens the door to find her boyfriend, Lance, singing one of his songs with a different female porcupine. They share a mic and gaze adoringly at each other until they see who just walked in. "What is going on here?" She asks, her voice cracking.

The female porcupine takes off her heart shaped dark pink sunglasses and introduces herself. "Hi, I'm Becky." She says, really cheery.

"Becky?!" Ash repeats, astound.

A moment later, Lance and Becky get thrown out of the door. "Hey, what did you expect? You're never around anymore." Lance comments.

Ash appears at the door, extremely upset. "I did it for us, Lance! You and me!" She hurls his guitar at his legs, making him trip.

"Oh sweetie, I'm sorry- I think I left my sunglasses in there–" 'Becky' says, about to walk up the stairs to the door. Ash slams the door and slides to the floor. Outside she can hear Lance tell his girlfriend to head out. Ash breaks down.

On the other side of town, Mike is back inside the nightclub with his girlfriend gambling against three burly bears. The boss bear lays his last cards. Mike cheers as he wins. "Jackpot, baby!" Woo hoo! Well, I say we call it a night there fellas. Hey, put the cash in my car, will ya Derek? Hahaha!" Mike slips Derek a 20 and the alligator exits with Mike's winings.

"Well. You're one great card player, Mike." The boss says with a thick Russian accent.

"Haha! Not so bad ya self." Mike replies. Nancy, the white mouse, giggles off to the side.

"Except I still can't tell how you cheated." The boss says, leaning down to Mike's level.

"Cheated? Cheated? Oh I am offended." Mike says, hand placed on his heart. "Come on baby, let's cut some rug." Mike takes Nancy's arm and they turn around to leave. Bad decision, because Mike's opponent notices something white sticking out of Mike's jacket. Boss Bear's suspicion leads him to reach for it and in doing so he pulls out an ace card. "What the- oh, uh...how did that get there." Mike tries to feign innocence, but quickly changes his mind and yells to his girlfriend, "RUN FOR IT, BABY!" Mike runs and leaps over the balcony.

"GET HIM!" Boss Bear screams out in anger.

Mike lands on a balloon which sails over the dance floor before popping on a rhino's horn. He scrambles to the door, trying his hardest to avoid the other animals. "Excuse me!"

"Don't let him get away!" The boss tells him minions.

Mike finally makes it outside and jumps into his car just as Derek is closing the trunk. "Thanks, Derek!"

The bears burst out the door behind him. "Get outta the way!" One yells to Derek.

Mike shoots off, and the bears leap onto the back of his car. Mike swerves, and the bears fly off into the alleyway. "So long, suckers! Ha ha ha!" The bears pick themselves off the ground. Humiliated and robbed, they start to growl. It is apparent that this is NOT over.
