TWENTY FOUR ▶ A NECKLACE

Faye Daniels woke up with no memory of the night before and smelt a lot like Klaus Mikaelson. She frowned as she stared around the hotel room she was in, not remembering it being the one Klaus had gotten for her and Stefan. Where was she and what had happened last night?

Faye scrambled out of bed, standing beside it. She looked down at her attire in attempt to find any evidence and she found enough. Faye let out a loud screech when she saw a shirt that she was sure belonged to Klaus and men's underwear.

"Oh my god." Faye muttered, running her hands through her messy hair, "No, no, no." She rushed into the bathroom and turned on the sink. She began splashing her face with water, trying to wake herself up more.

Faye stormed out of the bathroom, trying to find her phone. She needed to see the time since there wasn't a clock in the room.

"I see you've woken up."

Faye growled at the british accent. She turned around, pointing an accusing finger at him, "What do you do to me, Klaus?"

"What do you mean, love?" Klaus questioned as he stepped towards her slowly, smirking.

"I wake up in your hotel room, your clothes, and smell a lot like you. That points to two things, I either slept with you or you raped me." Faye sneered, "And I know I'm not stupid enough to sleep with you."

"You were quite drunk though." Klaus teased her.

Seeing that Klaus didn't clarify if he had done anything or not, Faye jumped to conclusions, "You bastard! You took advantage of me!" She tried hitting him, but Klaus grabbed her fist and lowered it.

"I did nothing of the sort." Klaus told her, "I would never take advantage of a woman."

"Glad to see you have morals." Faye spat angrily. She knew he had done something to her. Klaus would've taken her moment of weakness to use his little mind games on her.

"You don't believe me?" Klaus asked, growing angry with her.

"You've been waiting nothing more to get me on your side this whole summer. Maybe you used this to do that." Faye cross her arms over her chest.

Klaus sped over to her, slamming her against the wall. Faye gasped as he felt his body press against hers. He grinned, tucking one of her curls behind her ear.

"Now, let me tell you something, sweetheart." Klaus began, whispering, "I found you in that lovely dress drunk and covered in blood. You were panicking about how you killed so many people and they would torment you for life." Faye's eyes widened. She had told him?

"You didn't want Stefan to see you, so I took you back here and my sister and I got you cleaned up. You're in my clothes because it was the only thing there was for you. When you were done, you feel asleep here." He finished explaining.

Faye expected him to let her loose, but his grip only tight him. She tensed when she felt his hand slip under the shirt she was wearing. The pad of his thumb ran along her hip.

"But if you want me to take advantage of you." Klaus whispered against the shell of her ear, "I gladly will."

Faye glanced up at him in shock. She couldn't explain how she felt right now because in the months of being in her human form again, she hadn't felt this before.

Klaus suddenly let her go. He walked over to where he had dropped her duffle bag; something Faye hadn't noticed he brought in with him. He tossed it to her.

"Get dressed and meet us in the lobby."

Before Faye could ask any questions, he left the room, leaving her flustered and uncomfortable.

__

"There has to be more to this dress." Rebekah exclaimed from the fitting room she was in.

Rebekah had been very happy to see Faye when she came down to the lobby that morning. She had heard all about her from Stefan and wanted to see what she was like, not drunk. She was also glad that there was another girl in the group.

Faye rolled her eyes in the stall next her as she tried to pull down the short dress she was wearing to cover her body, "There's not."

Rebekah opened the curtain and walked out for Klaus and Stefan to see the black patterned dress she wore, "So women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then. You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers."

"You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing." Klaus told her from where he was sitting with Stefan, drinking. They had been through several stores and he was bored with shopping.

Faye swung her curtain open and walked out in a black mini dress paired with a black heels, "I'm surprised they haven't gotten to the point where they actually wear nothing."

"You look like a whore, Faye." Stefan said, seeing how the dress barely reached mid-thigh and you could see a lot of her cleavage.

Faye mockingly tapped her heart and awed, "Stefan, thank you. You're so sweet."

"And what is this music?" Rebekah questioned as she continued on to insult the 21st century, "It sounds like a cable car accident."

"It's dance music." Stefan informed her as he sipped at his champagne.

Rebekah gawked at him, "People dance to this?"

"Mhmm."

"Are we done?" Klaus snapped at Rebekah and Faye. Rebekah's head snapped towards him while Faye refused to meet his eye. She was still a bit bothered by the incident this morning.

"And why are you so grumpy?" Rebekah inquired.

Klaus smacked his lips in annoyance at her, "I needed one thing from you for my witch to find out why my hybrids are dying, one thing. Your necklace. And you lost it." He was also wanted out of the store due to the fact many of the men in it were staring over at Faye and he could smell their arousal.

"I didn't lose it. It's just been missing for 90 years." Rebekah defended her case. She turned towards Stefan, gesturing towards her outfit, "So what do you think?"

"I like it." Stefan chirped with a smile. Rebekah scoffed and Faye rolled her eyes. He was still horrible at lying, "What? I said I liked it."

"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan." Rebekah snapped bitterly. She went back into her fitting room.

Faye glared at Stefan, "Good job, Stef."

"He's the one that pulled the dagger out of her." Stefan argued, gesturing over to Klaus who rolled his eyes.

"I heard that." Rebekah shouted at him.

Stefan huffed and got up from his seat, "All right. I'm going to get some fresh air."

He walked out of the store, leaving Klaus and Faye alone together. They snuck glances at each other before Faye went back to change into something more appropriate.

__

The bell above the door rung when Stefan walked into Gloria's bar. Gloria sat at a table while Klaus, Rebekah and Faye occupied places at the bar.

"You left us." Rebekah accused with a pout.

Stefan nodded and Faye noticed how he fidgeted from foot to foot, "Yeah, sorry. Retail therapy was making my head explode." That was a lie and Faye knew it.

Klaus let out a humph and nodded, "Tell me about it."

Stefan's gaze moved to Gloria, "What's she doing?"

"She's falling." Klaus bitterly said, hopping off his bar stool to move next to Stefan.

Gloria's eyes opened and she stopped chanting. She glared at Klaus from her seat, "It's hard to find something when you don't have anything to go on."

"So use me." Rebekah offered and jumped off the bar she was sitting on, "I only wore it for a thousand years."

"See? Now this one offers a solution." Gloria praised the blonde as she sat down on the table, "All right, give me your hand, sweetheart." Rebekah gave her hand and Gloria squeezed it tightly.

"She's, uh, she's looking for the necklace, huh?" Stefan questioned. Gloria began chanting lowly again.

"Mhmm." Faye told him, "She's been at this all day from what she told us and she's found nothing."

Gloria interrupted them, "I can sense something."

Stefan tensed at her words. Faye grabbed his hands and gave him a concerned look. He shook his head.

Gloria began casting another spell and when she was done, she dropped Rebekah's hand, "I found it."

"So where is it?" Faye asked. She was wondering who had gotten their hand on such a powerful necklace.

"It doesn't work like that, doll." Gloria responded to Faye's question, "I get images. There's a girl with her friends..."

"Yes, a dead girl with dead friends, if I don't get my necklace back." Rebekah sneered, the veins under her eyes appearing for a moment.

"Well, I'll have to dive back in to get the details." Gloria replied.

"So dive." Klaus ordered the witch.

"I need more time." Gloria snapped, "And space. You're harshing my ju-ju."

Faye shrugged, hopping of the bar, "We can wait? Right, Klaus?" Klaus nodded, agreeing with her.

"I'm sure you can. But that's not what I asked." Gloria said.

"Hey." Stefan called out. Klaus turned to face him, "Hey, you know, why don't we just come back later. I'm hungry anyway. I'll let you pick who we eat."

Rebekah and Klaus agreed and Faye had no choice, but to follow them and find people to feed on.

__

"So, what's got you all so worried?" Faye questioned Stefan in the alley way they stood in. They had separated from Klaus and Rebekah because Faye wanted to find what she who she wanted to feed on herself. Stefan went with her.

"I'm not worried." Stefan denied as they watched people pass by.

"You're fidgeting from foot to foot and your being extra broody." Faye said to him, "Seriously, what's up with you?" Stefan didn't answer and she sighed, "Stefan, you can tell me."

"Rebekah's necklace." Stefan finally revealed why his was so nervous, "I found it the night Klaus and Rebekah disappeared in the twenties. I gave it to Elena."

Faye's eyes widened, "So, if Gloria finds it-"

"It leads straight to Elena and Klaus will kill her." Stefan finished for her. Faye ran her hand over her face, cursing under her breath. The whole thing they were trying to do at the moment was steer Klaus from discovering Elena was the problem.

"What do we do?" Faye stammered.

"Try to keep Gloria from finding the necklace." Stefan told her, "I'll talk to her after we eat and you'll stay with them to make sure they stay with you."

Faye nodded, "Okay. Keep them with me and you'll stop Gloria." She then walked out the alley way to find people for them to feed on.

__

"My girl's dead. I'm bored." Rebekah whined, glancing down at the dead girl on the ground in front of her.

Faye unlatched her mouth from the neck of the girl she was feeding off, looking up at her. The corners of her mouth had blood dripping from them and her eyes were still gold and red, "You can finish off my girl." She offered.

"I don't want your seconds." Rebekah told her.

Klaus glanced over to Stefan from the girl he was feeding on and grinned, "You weren't kidding about being hungry."

"Yeah. It's been a long day." Stefan muttered.

"Try being related to her." Klaus said with a laugh.

"You're being mean." Rebekah accused her brother. She looked at Stefan, "And why are you being mean? You used to love me."

"It's been 90 years, Rebekah." Klaus mumbled, "Give him a minute."

Rebekah crossed her arms and stomped her foot, "Why are you taking his side?"

Klaus made a face at her, "Because, my dear sister, I feel pity for any man who doesn't give you what you want."

"Will you stop making me out to be a brat?" Rebekah cried out, "I am not a brat!"

"A thousand years of life experience says otherwise."

"Well, you're no picnic, either." Faye said, coming to Rebekah's defense, "I mean, I've only spent one summer with you and I feel like throwing myself in to the pacific."

Klaus rolled his eyes at Faye. Rebekah shrieked with laughter.

"Fantastic." Rebekah chirped happily.

Stefan jumped up and tossed the dead girl to the ground, "I need to go." He moved to leave, throwing Faye a glance as he walked out the door.

"Where is he going?" The blonde asked.

"To write a name on a wall." Klaus answered, receiving a weird look from his sister, "It's a long story."

Faye sighed, biting into her wrist so she could heal the girl in front of her. She shoved the wound against the girl's lips and forced her to drink. She wasn't going to have herself seeing another dead person after she was seeing at least ten throughout this whole day.

"You'll forget me and everything I did to you." Faye compelled the healing girl, "You got lost and found your way home after a while. Leave." The girl repeated the orders in monotone before leaving.

"You didn't kill her?" Rebekah asked with a frown, "I thought it was in a wolf's nature to kill."

"Not in mine." Faye murmured back, causing Rebekah to frown even more. Faye realized that Rebekah did not know about the hallucinations.

"Why-"

"Rebekah, love, I suggest you don't ask." Klaus said, cutting her off. Rebekah pursued her lips and stopped talking.

__

"There you are." Gloria said when Stefan walked into her bar as if she was waiting for him. She didn't seem to be resting like she had told Klaus.

"Thought you were resting." Stefan said, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Well, now we both have a secret."

Stefan crossed his arms, "What did you see?"

"It's what I heard that's interesting." Gloria stated, moving around the bar to stand in front of it, "You know, the girls with the necklace, they were talking about you and the redhead."

"Yet you didn't tell Klaus. Why?" Stefan asked her.

Gloria scoffed, "'Cause I wouldn't help that hybrid half-breed with anything. The necklace is a talisman from the original witch herself. I want it."

"Well, I'm sorry. I can't help you." Stefan said.

"Don't be difficult." Gloria taunted him, "You know, I'd hate to have to tell Klaus what a liar his sidekick is." Stefan snarled and rushed at her, but she provoked a headache. Stefan fell to the ground, "Guess I've got to get it out of you the hard way, huh?"

__

After wandering around the warehouse trying to find something to do, she made her way over to the coffins that held Klaus' family. She felt a draw to one of them and she assumed it held Elijah.

Faye walked over to it, running her hand along the wood. She smiled sadly. Faye might have not known Elijah for a few months, but she had some memories from her childhood and they made her miss him.

She moved to open it, but a hand pulled hers away. Faye looked up at Klaus.

"I suggest you back away, love." Klaus said to her.

Faye yanked her hand of of his, scowling, "I wasn't going to undagger him." She whispered, "I just wanted to see something."

Faye opened the coffin and waited to see if Klaus was going to stop her again. She got the go ahead and she reached inside his jacket pocket. She pulled out his wallet.

"Are you robbing my brother?" Rebekah asked as she arrived next to her.

Faye shook her head and opened his wallet. She dug through the small compartment for cash and pulled out a small polaroid photo. A smile reached her lips as she looked at it.

"Is that-?"

Faye cut Rebekah off, "Elijah? Yep."

In the photo, Elijah sat on the small sofa in the Daniel's home. He was wearing a suit without the jacket. A small red headed child sat in his lap, holding up a storybook for him. It appeared that Elijah was reading to her.

"This was a year before my eighth birthday." Both of the Originals knew what she meant. Stefan had explained the story to Rebekah the night before, including who Faye's parents were, "He told me Lacey took it when they were watching me during my parents date night." She closed his coffin, keeping the wallet with her.

"So that's what you wanted? The photo?" Klaus asked as she walked over to the small sofa. She sat down, kicking her feet up.

"Yep." Faye said, staring down at the photo, "Elijah showed me it when I really talked with him for the first time since my shift back. He carried it around with him everyday and said that I told him that if he ever missed me, to just look at this picture." She chuckled, "I guess I'm taking my own advice."

Klaus and Rebekah both bit their lip, not saying anything. They stayed quiet for a while until Faye felt something.

Faye had only felt this when someone was in trouble. She felt it when Elena was being sacrificed. It only meant someone in her pack near her was in danger.

Faye jumped up, knowing Stefan had gone to Gloria's. Klaus and Rebekah turned to look at her, curious as to why she seemed to be leaving.

"I'm gonna go find Stefan." She said calmly, walking out the door of the warehouse. Once she was outside and the coast was clear, she sped away to Gloria's.

__

Stefan rapid breathing filled the bar as he recovered from the previous torture from Gloria. She had him tied to a table as she tried to get him to talk.

"I'm impressed." Gloria said as she coated her hand with red powder, "You've got discipline, Stefan. It's not going to do you much good, but..." She moved to place her hands on his bare chest, "Just let go, honey."

She slammed her hands down and his skin began to burn. Stefan screamed and Gloria grinned, "There you go, there you go." Gloria began getting images of where the necklace was, " There's the girl with the necklace. You love her. You'd do anything for her. And you have. A lot of darkness, a lot of guilt. All to keep her away from Klaus."

"Why would he be interested in one girl?" Gloria asked herself and him.

"Don't do this. Don't do this." Stefan pleaded with her.

Gloria saw Elena being sacrificed by Klaus in the hybrid ritual ,"She's the doppelgänger. She's supposed to be dead, and that's why Klaus can't make hybrids, isn't it?"

"This is creepy."

Gloria turned around, coming face to face with Faye and Katherine. Faye grabbed a stake and shoved into the witch's throat. Gloria fell, dead.

Katherine smirked at Stefan as Faye rushed to free him, "Maybe you do need my help, after all."

__

"This is nasty." Faye muttered as she threw Gloria down onto the sheet, Stefan began rolling her body up.

"I've been thinking about your diabolical plan." Katherine said as she walked towards Stefan.

"Oh. Do tell." Stefan said sarcastically.

"Well, you must know that Klaus is too paranoid to ever fully trust you and amnesia over her." Faye scowled at the vampire, "But the sister, she loves you, Stefan, like it was yesterday. She's the easier mark."

"But you can't just pretend to care, because Klaus will know better, so you do the opposite. You bond with him; make her feel left out." Katherine continued on with her plan, "That will only make her want you more."

Faye canted her head to the side and gave a her a look, "Oh! So you mean, he's, uh, he's taking a page out of the Katherine Pierce playbook."

"The only question is why, Stefan?" Katherine said, ignoring Faye,

I mean, I get it, you want to keep Klaus away from Mystic Falls, but..." She walked over closer, "What else do you expect to get from it?"

Stefan stood up from his crouch, "You know what's funny?" He asked, "You keep talking to me like I actually trust you enough to tell you anything."

"I, uh, actually want to know this plan too." Faye told Stefan, waving her hand at him, "The one that you didn't inform me of either."

"Okay." Stefan looked at Katherine, "I knew them, back in the twenties. They were running from someone. Someone who scared them."

"A hunter." Katherine muttered, "I heard stories about him centuries ago."

"Don't you want to know why an original vampire who can't be killed is afraid of a vampire Hunter?" Stefan asked her.

"If you're planning on making a move against Klaus..." Katherine gestured to herself, "I want in."

Stefan let out a humph, "That's good. It's good to want things, Katherine."

"Stefan..."

"Katherine." Faye said to her, getting why Stefan wanted her to not help, "We're in this alone. If you're looking for a diabolical partner in crime, I suggest you look elsewhere."

Stefan gathered Gloria's body and him and Faye walked out.

__

Stefan traced the wood of one of the coffins in the warehouse. Faye had gone to feed again, stressed from everything. He moved to open it, but Rebekah entered the room. Both of them turned to face her.

"You're back. Finally. Nik went to check on the witch." Rebekah looked at the coffins, "Dreary, isn't it? The family cargo."

"Hmm." Stefan agreed with her, "Why don't you undagger them?"

"The same reason Faye hasn't made her move to undagger Elijah; because he would hunt me down and kill me." Rebekah cursed under her breath for a moment, "He's a vindictive little bastard, my brother."

"But you still care about him. Why?" Stefan asked her.

"Well, I hated him for a long time. It was exhausting." She replied, moving to sit down on one of the coffins. Stefan took the spot next to her.

"You know, when I met you two, you were both on the run." Stefan said.

Rebekah chuckled dryly, "Also exhausting."

"Who were you running from?" Stefan questioned.

Rebekah visibly tensed and Stefan knew it was a sensitive subject, "What do you mean?"

"Last night I saw you, there was a man looking for you. You both seemed afraid. I just..." Stefan shrugged, "I wouldn't think Klaus would be afraid of anybody."

"No one in this world is truly fearless, Stefan. Not even Niklaus." Rebekah told him.

"Who was that man?" Stefan pestered her.

"I can't. Please." Rebekah stood up, shaking her head, "If Nik knew we were talking about this, he would..."

"No, no, no, I'm sorry." Stefan got up along with her, taking her hand in comfort, "Just forget I asked. Okay?"

Rebekah changed the subject as she looked down at their hands, "He told me about the girl you loved." She glanced up at him, "The one that died. He also told me that you and Faye are only with him because he saved your brother."

"It's true."

"I think he secretly admires that about you. You'd sacrifice anything for family." Rebekah grinned as she spoke, "Don't tell him I told you that."

Stefan smiled back, "Your secret is safe with me."

In the heat of the moment, Rebekah reached up and pressed her lips against Stefan's. Stefan kissed back, wanting to make her believe he was still him from the twenties.

"Do you think you'll ever love anyone like you loved that girl?" Rebekah asked him.

"One day, maybe."

Rebekah's awed expression turned into a scowl as she stared at him, "I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan."

"What?" Stefan took a step back, "I'm not..."

"Don't bother." Rebekah hissed at him, "Your kiss already gave you away."

At that moment, Klaus stormed in, "Gloria's gone. She's cleared out. We need to find a new witch immediately." He stopped, staring at them as he felt the tension in the air, "What's going on?"

"Something's wrong." Rebekah told her brother, walking around Stefan, "He was asking about Michael. He's not with us, Nik. I can sense it."

Klaus only grew more upset and he began glaring at Stefan. Stefan shook his head at the older hybrid.

"She's wrong. Klaus..."

Stefan was cut off by Klaus rushing over and snapping his neck. Stefan fell to the ground, dead momentarily.

Faye had decided to arrive at the worst moment, unaware of what Rebekah and Klaus had discovered. She stridded in, licking her fingers clean of blood when Rebekah and Klaus both looked up at her.

Faye stopped when she saw Stefan on the ground, his neck bent in a weird way, "What happened?"

No one answered. Instead, Klaus sped over to her and did the same thing he had done to Stefan. She fell to the ground, her vision going dark.

__

Faye woke up in the back of a semi-truck with Stefan lying neck to her, awaking himself. She looked around, jumping when she saw Klaus leaning against the truck's wall.

"Just give me a chance to explain myself, okay?" Stefan said to Klaus once he was awake.

"No need." Klaus stood up straight and walked towards the pair, "I'm not mad, I'm just curious."

"About what?" Faye asked, confused about the reason why they had their necks snapped.

"Rebekah seems to think you're holding onto something. A piece of your old life." Klaus told Stefan, "The thing is, she's got flawless instincts, borderline supernatural."

"It's obvious Faye is holding on to something, but you? What could it be?" Klaus continued, walking over to the door of the trunk, "So I thought I would check it out. See for myself what it is you've been hiding." He slid it open, revealing the busy streets that Faye would recognize anywhere, "Welcome back to Mystic Falls, Stefan, Faye."

And that's when Faye knew they had failed.
