TWENTY FIVE ▶ THE RETURN

The mousetraps set along the floor were set off when Matt Donovan stepped into the room. Groans sounded throughout the room as he turned on the light. Bonnie, Caroline, Elena, and Tyler were all in the room.

" Ohh! Oh, come on!" Caroline moaned as she turned her head to look at Matt, "Seriously?! Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?!"

"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler asked him, annoyed.

Matt nodded, "Clearly."

"How could you forget?" Caroline said in disbelief, "We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year."

Elena got up and sighed, giving Matt the smallest smile she could muster up, "Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this."

"I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this." Matt glanced around the room at all of the people who had been through the hardest of times.

"Caroline's making us." Bonnie told him.

"We're about to be seniors." Caroline said, "These are the memories that will stay with us forever, and if we don't..."

Elena cut her off and continued on, hearing the speech millions of times, "And if we don't create these memories now, then what's the point of it all?"

"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care." Caroline raised her hands in surrender, "Faye would have loved to done this, even after all we've been through."

At the mention of their friend who had been taken away from them, the mood suddenly dropped. Tyler pursued his lips at his almost-girlfriend's name and stood up, acting as if it hadn't affected him.

"You're all lame." He said as he grabbed one of the duffel bags, "And I've got ten more classrooms to prank." Tyler left the room, going to wallow in his own misery.

Elena moved to go out after him, but Bonnie's voice stopped her.

"Hey! Where are you going?" Bonnie asked her.

Elena grinned at her, "To superglue Alaric's desk shut. I'm making memories."

Caroline returned the smile and shouted after her as she left, "I love you!"

Elena stepped out into the hall, laughing when she saw Tyler giving instructions to some of the other seniors. She began making her way towards the history room, shoving open the two doors.

"There's my girl." She heard as she bumped into someone's chest.

Elena looked up, meeting the man's eyes. She let out a loud gasp in fear, "Klaus!" She attempted to turn the other way and run, but he caught her arm. Klaus forced her to turn around and face him.

"You are supposed to be dead. What are we going to do about that?"

__

Managing to escape the truck Klaus had left her and Stefan in was a miracle. Faye had slipped past Rebekah and had gone into the school. She had to leave Stefan behind, but she knew he would have rather her take the chance to go save Elena than stay and try to help him wake up.

Faye stopped in the middle of the school, trying to catch the scent of anyone she knew. She knew it was senior prank night since she had kept track of the days. Her and Caroline had been waiting the whole time Faye had been in school to do this.

"Okay, Faye, concentrate." She attempted to coach herself through the process, pressing her fingers to her temples. Faye inhaled deeply, taking in everything around her. It was then when she caught the familiar smell of AXE bodyspray and another of lilacs.

"Matt and Bonnie." Faye breathed out a smile adorning her lips. She sped followed their scent, running straight into the blond teenager. He let out a small screech, turning around to look at Faye.

"Faye?" Bonnie asked.

"In the flesh." Faye smiled widely, "I would love to have a nice reunion right now, but I need to find Elena. Now."

"She's probably in the gym." Matt suggested, "Wait why-"

Matt couldn't even finish his sentence before Faye grabbed them both and blurred towards the gym. They stopped in front of the doors and Bonnie was the first to enter. Matt and Faye followed behind.

"Bonnie, get out of here!" Elena screeched at her.

Klaus, Elena, and two kids from her history class (Dana and Chad) were the only ones in the room. The older hybrid turned and smirked, seeing the trio.

"Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up." Klaus said to Bonnie, "Now we can get started." He looked at Dana and Chad, "Ah, Dana, why don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight." His gaze flickered back to Bonnie, "I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive?"

Bonnie gulped and stepped forward, "That's right. If you want to blame someone, blame me."

"Oh, there's no need for blame, love." Klaus waved his hand at her, "Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects. And since you caused the problem, I'm going to have you find the fix."

The doors slammed open once again and Faye's head snapped towards it. Rebekah entered with Tyler Lockwood struggling in her grip.

"Get off of me!" The werewolf shouted at the blonde.

"Hush now." Rebekah hissed back.

Faye felt her heart sink as she saw him, "Tyler..." She knew Klaus was going to hurt him and she was scared.

"Faye." Tyler whispered her name when he met her eyes. He honestly didn't care about what was about to happen as soon he saw Faye. He was glad she was safe.

"I'd like you all to meet my sister Rebekah." Klaus interrupted the little moment between the two lovers, "Word of warning..." He grinned at everyone in the room, "She can be quite mean."

"Don't be an ass." Rebekah said as she pushed Tyler into Klaus' arms.

"Klaus..." Faye said slowly as she watched Klaus

"Leave him alone!" Elena shouted.

"I'm going to make this very simple..." Klaus said as he kept a harsh grip on Tyler, "Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually." He glanced up at Faye who was on the verge of a panic attack, "You remember that quite well Faye, don't you?"

"No." Faye muttered, shaking her head. She knew what he was about to do, "Klaus, do not do this. I beg of you to just let him go."

Klaus nodded to Rebekah and she moved forward, grabbing her and keeping a tight grip on the strawberry blonde. He then bit into his wrist, shoving it into Tyler's mouth.

"Klaus please..." Faye tried to get Klaus to stop, "Don't hurt him. Not him."

Her pleas fell upon deaf ear as Klaus pulled away his wrist, "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie." He told the witch, "And for Tyler's sake..." Klaus' hands moved to wrap themselves around Tyler head. He stared into the eyes of Faye who was shaking her head, trying to make him change his mind about using Tyler, "You better hurry."

The room was filled with the sound of Tyler's neck snapping and Klaus looked up and smiled sinisterly. Faye's hand was clamped over her mouth as she choked back her sobs.

The young hybrid rushed over to Tyler, crouching down next to him. She ran her hand over Tyler's forehead, biting her lip softly. Faye didn't want him to end up like this.

"He killed him." Matt said, appearing next to Faye.

Elena shook her head at Matt, "He's not dead. Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire."

"Which is worse." Faye growled out, remembering how Ray bled out.

"But, if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition." Klaus said, gaining their attention. He looked at Bonnie and gestured for her to leave, "Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires. and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold on to Elena and Faye..." Klaus caught Elena's arm, holding her in place, "For safe keeping."

Elena nodded at Bonnie, telling her it was okay to go. Matt glanced at Faye to check if she would be okay. Faye nodded slightly. She could handle herself against Klaus and even if she had been offered to leave, she wouldn't. She wanted to stay with Tyler.

Bonnie and Matt left the gym. Faye stood up from beside Tyler, turning to look at Elena, Klaus, and Rebekah. Her eyes were red and puffy from her quite crying.

"So this is the latest doppelgänger." Rebekah said, circling Elena, "The original one was much prettier."

Faye rolled her eyes at the blonde original vampire, "They all look the same, but whatever you say..."

Rebekah's gaze moved over to the strawberry blonde and smirked, "What's wrong Faye? Sad about your little friend?" Her eyes flickered towards Tyler.

Faye's temper hit a high and her lip curled. She vamped out, flashing towards Rebekah to get a bite out of her. Klaus managed to grab her before she could reach his sister.

"Enough, Rebekah." Klaus ordered, "Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?"

Rebekah huffed and reluctantly grabbed Tyler. She dragged him out of the gym and once she was gone, Faye was let go.

"Ignore her." Klaus said as he twirled a strand of Faye's hair, "Petty little thing."

Faye snarled at him, her fangs still out. Klaus chuckled as she tore away from his touch. He watched as she walked a few steps from him and ran her hand over her face. He knew she was worried about Tyler.

Klaus was suspecting for Faye to attack him in retaliation for killing Tyler. Faye didn't do that though. Instead, she fell the floor, gasping for air as she began to cry.

She had failed. Faye had failed her pack. Klaus had ended up coming back to Mystic Falls when she was supposed to keep him away. He turned Tyler and the werewolf won't likely survive the transition unless Bonnie saves him somehow.

Elena rushed over to comfort the redhead, rubbing her back comfortingly. Klaus did nothing, but turn a blind eye to the situation. She wasn't his problem.

__

Faye's tears had been dried up when Stefan charged into the gym, hero hair and all. There was a large bloodstain on his shirt along with a gaping hole. Faye and Elena stood up from where they were sitting with Dana on the bleachers.

"Stefan..." Elena breathed out, happy to see him.

Stefan ignored her, "Klaus."

Klaus smirked at Stefan, "Come to save your damsel, mate?"

"I came to ask for your forgiveness." Stefan said, causing Faye to look dumbfounded at him, "And pledge my loyalty."

"Stefan, what the hell are you talking about?" Faye asked in disbelief. They had lost, meaning that the whole "being loyal to Klaus" facade up was.

"Well, you broke that pledge once already." Klaus snapped at Stefan.

"Elena means nothing to me anymore. And whatever you ask of me..." Stefan gulped at what he had just offered, "I will do."

"Fair enough." Klaus shrugged, "Let's drink on it. Kill them." He gestured towards Danna and Chad who froze up.

Stefan hesitated, not wanting to kill in front of Elena. Klaus gave him a confused look, "What are you waiting for? Kill them."

"No!" Elena protested, "Stefan, don't. He's not going to hurt me. He already said..."

Klaus cut her off by backhanding her. Faye gasped as the doppelganger fell to the ground, caressing her own cheek. She sped over to Elena to make sure she wasn't hurt while Stefan attacked Klaus.

Klaus grabbed Stefan by the throat, "She means nothing to you?" He asked the vampire, "Your lies just keep piling up."

"Let her go!"Stefan shouted, struggling to break free, "I'll do whatever you want, you have my word!"

"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this..." Klaus' pupils dilated as he compelled Stefan, "Stop fighting."

"No!" Faye yelled, rushing forward to stop Klaus. Klaus used his free hand to throw her away from them. Faye landed in the cup that were lined up on the gym floor.

"Don't do this. Don't do this." Stefan said to Klaus.

"I didn't want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I'm going to have to take it." Klaus told Stefan.

"Don't..." Stefan tried again to stop him, "Don't..."

Klaus continued to compel him, "You will do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey."

"No. Stefan!" Elena cried out.

"Stefan!" Faye shouted after him.

Klaus dropped Stefan to his feet, smirking widely at the thought of what he had done, "Now kill them, ripper."

Stefan's eyes turned a blood red while the veins under his eyes became visible. He sped over to Chad, sinking his fangs into his neck. Chad yelled out in pain and Dana's screamed in fear.

Klaus laughed moving over to Faye. He circled around her, stopping to the right of her. His leaned towards her, going to whisper her in her ear.

"Now, why don't you take Dana? Stefan seems preoccupied with Chad." Klaus suggested to her.

"I'm fine." Faye hissed at him.

"It wasn't a question, sweetheart." Klaus replied, placing his hand on the small of her back.

Faye shook her head, "You know I can't-"

"And I also know you can't let Tyler die, Faye." Klaus taunted her. Faye looked up at him, her eyes wide, "Even if I do figure out how to make a successful hybrid, I can make sure Tyler never even taste a drop of human blood."

Faye gaped at him. Was he really going to threaten her to do this? She had told him what happens to her every time she killed and he had seen her in action during this.

She had no choice to kill her and she knew it. Tyler's life was in danger.

Klaus grinned and pushed her forward. She hesitated before walking over to Dana who covered in fear. Faye pursued her lips, giving the girl a look of sympathy.

"I'm sorry."

Faye vamped out and drove her fangs into Dana's throat. Dana's screams filled the room and Faye winced. She knew she was going to suffer once she got out of here.

__

"It's always nice to see a vampire in their true element." Klaus said as he watched Stefan finish with Chad and drop him to the ground. Faye still had a grip on Dana, as she fed, "The species has become such a broody lot."

"No." Elena said with a shake of her head, "You did this to them."

"I invited them to the party, love. Their the ones dancing on the table." Klaus replied, watching as Faye let go of Dana, blood coating her mouth. She had stopped because Dana's head had fallen off, meaning she had gnawed through everything.

Elena watched in horror as Faye turned around. The hybrid was breathing heavily, trying to calm down from the rush she had just experienced. Faye always felt some sort of power after she killed someone, whether it be a supernatural creature or a human. Then, it would sink into guilt and she would suffer.

"Where is it?!" Rebekah's yell echoed throughout the gym as she sped in and over to Elena, "Where's my necklace?"

"What are you talking about?" Klaus asked his sister.

"She has my necklace. Look." Rebekah showed him the photo she found of Stefan and Elena on Caroline's phone. She had zoomed in on the necklace Elena was wearing.

Klaus clenched his teeth together as he looked at the photo. He glanced over at Stefan and Faye, "Well, well. More lies."

"Where..." Rebekah began, "is it?"

"I don't have it anymore." Elena said honestly.

"You're lying!" Rebekah accused.

Rebekah bit into Elena's shoulder causing Faye to speed over to them. She threw Rebekah off of the doppelganger, flashing her fangs at the blonde original. Rebekah moved to rush at Faye and attack her, but Klaus grabbed her.

"Knock it off!" Klaus roared at Rebekah.

"Make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah pouted at him.

Klaus glanced at Elena who clutched her bleeding neck. Faye still stood in front of her protectively, "Where's the necklace, sweetheart?" He asked Elena, "Be honest."

"I'm telling the truth." Elena responded, "Katherine stole it."

Klaus groaned at the mention of the vampire doppelganger, "Katerina. Of course." He sighed, rubbing his forehead, "Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"

Klaus walked over to the control panel for the game board. The clock buzzed and 20 minutes appeared on the game board.

"20 minutes." Klaus announced to Stefan, "If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena." Stefan stiffened, causing Klaus to chuckle, "You know you want to."

"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" Elena shouted out.

Klaus reached forward and grabbed Faye's arm tightly. She tried to get away, but he was too strong, "And since you would stop him, you're coming with me, love."

"No!" Faye tried to tear her arm away, but Klaus began dragging her out.

"No one leaves." Klaus called back to Stefan, "If she tries to run, fracture her spine." He left the gym with Faye, Rebekah following behind them.

__

Klaus was taking Faye to the science lab he was keeping Tyler and Caroline in. Faye constantly kept trying to leave and get back to Stefan and Elena. Klaus was on the verge of snapping her neck.

"I can compel you to behave, love." Klaus bitterly said as they moved through the halls.

"Why don't you?" Faye asked him. Klaus stopped, looking at her, but still keeping hold of her, "You did it to Stefan. You forced his loyalty to you and you could do exactly the same thing to me." She threw the hand up that Klaus didn't have a hold of, "So, do it. Compel me."

Klaus stared at her and she was almost scared that he was going to compel her. His grip on her loosened a bit and the annoyed look on his face disappeared.

"I'm not going to compel you." Klaus said.

"Yeah, because you can just get me to do things for you by threatening the people I care about." Faye said sarcastically.

"I could do that, love, but if I ever gained your loyalty..." Klaus found himself reaching for one of her loose curls like he always did, "I want it to be of your own free will."

Faye chuckled bitterly, "Don't try to be the nice guy. It's too late for that."

Klaus smacked his lips, once again irritated by Faye's actions. He sped them to the science lab, leaving her there before rushing away.

Faye went inside, spotting Caroline who was sitting next to Tyler. Caroline glanced up at her, gasping when she saw the red head.

"Faye!" Caroline jumped up, pulling her into a tight hug, "Oh my gosh, you're home! Why are you covered in blood?"

"I wish it was under better circumstances, but yeah, I'm home." Faye let out a watery laugh as Caroline squeezed her tight, "And the last part is a long story."

"A reunion. Adorable." Rebekah said as she watched the pair of girls with disgust. She couldn't believe a girl like Faye, who could have men and women at her feet, is friends with someone she would consider a bimbo.

Faye pulled away from Caroline's hug and glared at Rebekah. Rebekah smirked snarkily at her.

Faye's attention then turned to Tyler who still hadn't woken yet. She pursued her lips, walking over to sit down on the edge of the table he was laid on.

"He hasn't made any sign of waking up?" Faye asked, worried. What if he didn't even wake up?

Caroline shook her head, "No." Suddenly, Tyler shot up, gasping for air, "Well, not until now."

"Where am I? What happened?" Tyler gasped out.

"Tyler." Faye grabbed his hand.

"Faye?" Tyler asked, slightly confused. What had happened? When did she get here?

"Don't be shy about it." Rebekah said from where she sat at the desk.

"Klaus..." Caroline began from behind Faye, knowing she couldn't break it to him, "Is turning you into a hybrid, like me. You're in transition."

"Don't leave out the hard part, sweets." Rebekah told Caroline, "You'll only survive if your witch is successful. If not..." She shrugged at Tyler, smiling sinisterly, "You're pretty much dead."

"You're going to be okay." Faye insisted, her grip tightening on his hand, "Okay? It's going to be okay."

"I wonder how she's doing." Rebekah referred to the witch. She pulled out Caroline's phone that she had kept with her and watched the clock, "Tick tock goes the gym clock."

__

By the time the twenty minutes had passed, Faye was a complete wreck. She was panicking non stop about two things. One; Stefan most likely lost control and killed Elena. Two; Bonnie hasn't found a way to save Tyler and the said werewolf in transition was dying.

"Well, the verdict's in." Klaus announced as he came into the room. He looked at Tyler who was sweating and the two girl next to him, trying to comfort the werewolf, "The original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead."

Rebekah jumped up, happy to hear the news, "Does that mean we can kill her?"

"No!" Faye protested, standing up. Her eyes flashed gold, but she didn't show her hybrid face.

"As Faye said, no, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite." Klaus walked over towards the table Tyler was laying on. Faye and Caroline both backed away, not wanting to be anywhere near Klaus, "Call it a hunch..."

Klaus pulled out a tube of blood and Rebekah grabbed Caroline to hold her back. She knew Faye wouldn't try to stop this, knowing it may be able to save Tyler.

"Elena's blood. Drink it." Klaus ordered Tyler as he held out the tube to him.

"No!" Caroline yelled out, "No, no, no, Tyler, don't!"

"Caroline! If he doesn't he will die anyways!" Faye told the blonde baby vampire.

"Call this an experiment." Klaus said aloud.

Tyler struggled to bring the blood to his mouth, but he finally managed to drink it.

"There we go. Good boy."

Tyler began clutching his stomach as soon as he drank it. He groaned in pain and fell from the table to the floor. Faye jumped to help him, but Klaus pushed her back.

Tyler held his head, screaming out. It wasn't until seconds later until his face began to change. Black veins became visible under his eyes and he now had two set of fangs. His head snapped up, showing his new hybrid features.

Klaus grinned, "Well that's a good sign."

__

Faye stood out in the hall with Tyler, on the phone with Damon who had found Elena. She had called him and finally got the message through that Klaus was there and he needed to find Elena fast. She would've done it herself, but she was currently searching for Stefan, who was not in the school anymore.

"Get her home and if you see Stefan, call me, okay?" Faye said to Damon, running her hand through her hair.

"I got it, Faye, don't worry." Damon replied, "By the way I'm really glad your home. It wasn't the same without finding you sleeping on the couch in your wolf form a three in the morning."

"You can hug me all you want when I come home." Faye said to him, "Adios." Damon replied a quick goodbye and they both hung up the phone.

Faye stuffed her phone in her pocket and then turned to Tyler, "He found Elena."

"I heard." Tyler said, tapping his head, "Super hearing comes in handy."

Faye smiled and looked down, "Yeah, it's going to be weird now that your a hybrid." She walked up to him, taking his hand, "You okay?"

"I'm great, Faye. I mean, like, phenomenal. It's a rush. I wish I could explain it. Everything's just..." Tyler laughed, a big grin on his face, "Better." He picked her up, spinning her around. Faye giggled as he put her back on her feet, moving into kiss her.

"You're home after we looked for you all summer and we can finally really be together." Tyler said happily.

"It doesn't matter that I ripped apart people sometimes?" Faye asked, guilty

"You were forced to." Tyler responded, "It wasn't your fault."

Faye nodded slowly, not really believing him. Tyler noticed that and tilted her head up so he could press his lips against hers softly. When he pulled away, she blushed.

"So, you're not afraid of me?" Faye questioned.

Tyler shook his head, "Nope." He sped her over to the lockers, smacking her against them, "And why would I be if I'm as strong as you now."

The position was changed when Faye overpowered him and pressed him back against the lockers, "I'm still stronger than you, pretty boy." They both laughed together.

"This year is going to be amazing, I can feel it." Tyler told her.

"Really?"

"Really."

__

Faye went to the boardinghouse, giving up on finding Stefan. She knew he would come back sometime and he probably needed some time to himself after what happened.

Damon greeted her with a hug, almost in tears at the sight of her. He was happy he had the girl he considered his sister back home again. Faye managed to slip away from him to check on Elena, who reveled that Stefan had flipped his switch. Faye freaked out, worrying herself to exhaustion and ended up going upstairs to sleep in her bed for once.

"Hey, have some bourbon." Damon told Elena, handing her a glass. Elena couldn't sleep, unlike Faye who had been snoozing for a good twenty minutes, "It'll help you forget."

Elena took a drink and scrunched up her face in disgust. Damon sighed, taking a seat next to her on the couch, "Yeah, it's strong."

"You know I can help you forget, too." Damon said, "At least the memories you don't want to keep."

Elena shook her head, "No. No compulsion. I need to remember. All of it."

Damon showed her the necklace, trying to get her mood up, "I stole it back for you."

"He's really gone this time." Elena went back to the subject of Stefan, "I watched it happen. After everything that we went through to get... to help him. Now he's just... Gone." She looked up at the raven haired vampire, "Where were you, Damon?"

" I shouldn't have left. I promise you..." Damon placed his hand on her leg, "I will never leave you again." They stared at eachother for a few moments, the tension in the air rising.

"Well, isn't this cozy?"

Damon and Elena's heads snapped towards Stefan in surprise. Damon got up, ready to protect Elena if he needed to.

"What are you doing here, brother?" Damon asked him.

"Last I checked, I live here." Stefan said before getting straight to the point, "Klaus is gone, but he's asked me to keep watch on you until he returns. From now on, you're under my protection." He then told Elena, "Mmm, by all means. Carry on." He moved to leave them alone.

Stefan stopped when he heard the snores of Faye from upstairs, "Faye's sleeping? Oh, that won't be good, not after what happened with Dana and all."

"What do you mean?" Damon asked Stefan, worried about the hybrid.

"You'll figure out in three, two, one-"

Before Stefan could even finish counting off, screams rang throughout the boarding house, alerting Damon that there was something wrong. He rushed up to Faye's room, finding the strawberry blonde thrashing around in her bed, screaming at the top of her lungs.

"Faye!" Damon shook her awake. She opened her eyes in a panic, "Faye, you're okay. You're okay."

"No, no, no." Faye muttered repeatedly, shaking her head as she looked towards the doorway of her bathroom. She saw Dana standing there, blood dripping down her throat.

It was then that Damon knew something bad had happened with Faye over the summer and he had to fix it.

A/N: 12:12 AM, that's the current time at the moment. This chapter is not my favorite, I admit it. What do you think?

Next Chapter: Senior year, Bekaye showdown, and a bonfire.
