TWENTY EIGHT ▶ FAMILY DAY AT VAMP REHAB
The earbuds in Faye's ears blared loudly as she drove her fist in to the punching bag in the garage like shed in the backyard of the Daniels home. She didn't wince when she split open her knuckle, only for them to heal seconds later.
It had been two days since the veil to the other side had gone down for the day. Two days since Faye saw her parents for what felt like the first time to her. It had been a day since she had cried about it to Tyler in his bedroom and it had been less than twenty four hours since she sucked it up and got over it.
Faye was okay for now. She could not let an emotional problem get in the way of what she currently had to do; fix Stefan and get rid of Klaus. She knew how to fix Stefan, they were currently doing that. He was locked up in the Forbes cell until he shows a flicker of some type of emotion and no longer has the need to feed on humans until they're torn apart.
Klaus was a different story. There was no possible way for them to be rid of Klaus forever without getting Mikael on their side. The chance they had was ruined due to lies fed to a vulnerable man who wanted his family back more than anything. Faye had started researching through things that she had stolen from Isobel Flemming's things (Alaric knew she had taken them, he allowed it). There was nothing on how to truly kill him except Mikael, who Katherine lost.
Faye was getting more and more frustrated as she thought about. She eventually let out a roar and her foot connected with the bag; sending it flying off the chain and into the wall. At that moment, Lacey walked into the shed, seeing the bag fly past her.
"What did the bag do to you?" Lacey had the nerve to joke with her niece.
Faye let out a sigh and tugged her earbud out of her ear, "Nothing. It's who I'm imagining the bag to be." She walked over to where the bag was and groaned when she noticed the tear in it. Her workout was done for the day.
"And let me guess, Klaus?" Lacey knew Faye was not going to let Klaus get off that easily.
Faye cocked her head to the side, "That obvious?"
"Well, when you aren't plotting his death, you're bitching about him." Lacey responded, moving to sit down on one of the exercise benches. She rested her elbows on her knees and then her chin on the palms of her hands.
"Is that a bad thing?" Faye asked as she sat down on the exercise bench across from her aunt and began unravelling her tape on her hand.
"I personally don't like it. Klaus was once my somewhat friend and your dad's best friend." Lacey responded to her question, "But he did some bad things to you and your friends, so you have the right to hate on him."
Faye pursued her lips and sighed, not saying anything. She finished unraveling the tape on her hand and watched as the torn skin on her knuckles healed at a rapid pace.
"How you feeling today?" Lacey asked, concerned. She was wondering if Faye was still affected by the once again disappearance of her parents.
"I'm fine." Faye gave a short answered as she pulled her phone from her arm band. She paused the music that had been playing and removed the earbuds from the plug.
"Are you really or are you lying to me?" Lacey quirked an eyebrow at her.
Faye let out a sigh and stood up, "Lacey, I have made my peace with it. My parents are dead and I can't do anything about it."
Lacey's shoulders fell in defeat at her words. Faye would never open up to her despite how much Lacey wanted her to. Lacey may be her family, but it didn't feel that way to her.
Neither of them said anything after that. Faye's phone beeped loudly, interrupting the silence, and she turned on the screen. Damon's name flickered on the screen with a short message under it.
Lockwood cellar, ASAP.
Faye rolled her eyes and looked over at Lacey, "I gotta go. Damon calls..."
__
After showering and changing into a pair of jean and a grey v-neck, she took her SUV to the old Lockwood cellar. Alaric and Damon seemed to be there already, both of their cars parked next to each other. Faye parked by them and got out of her car.
She walked down into the cellar, carrying her bag with her. Faye sniffed out Damon's scent and followed it through a large gaping hole in the wall and through dark tunnels. She spotted Damon walking with Elena next to him as they chatted and Alaric in front of them.
Faye jogged up next to them, causing Elena to jump, "Hey, why are we in a creepy tunnel leading somewhere?" She asked the trio of people already walking.
"Damon found something when all the ghost were set loose." Alaric informed her as they continued down the dark tunnel which was only lit by the two flashlights he and Elena had, "Something that could possibly kill Klaus."
Faye's eyes widened as she looked over at Damon, "You found something?"
"Um, kind of." Damon responded with a shrug of his shoulders.
"What is it?"
"Just wait and see." Damon told her. Faye sighed impatiently, but followed Alaric in the direction he was leading them.
Elena spoke up after a couple of seconds of silence, "So, you really can't get in?" She asked Damon.
"No. Seems even the ancient Lockwoods were anti-vampire." Damon responded to Elena's question.
"Wait, you mean I can't get in?" Damon nodded and Faye scoffed.
"What do you mean, ancient?" Was Elena's question.
Damon gestured down the path in front of them, "See for yourself."
After walking through waving tunnels, they all finally arrived at small cave. Elena and Alaric stepped inside, but Damon and Faye were forced to wait.
"Well, this is as far as we get to go." Damon had said, his hand tapping against the invisible barrier.
Faye was a little upset to be stuck outside due to the fact she couldn't get a close look at what was inside, but she could see it. Her eyes were wide with admiration as she looked at the cave walls. Carvings of what looked like a story littered them along with some runic writing.
"What is all this?" Faye asked.
"Well, as far as I can tell, it's a story." Alaric answered her question, "In simple, archaeological terms, it's a really, really old story."
Faye continued to admire the drawings as Alaric continued to speak.
"That right there, is the moon cycle." Alaric pointed to a drawing before moving to point at another, "A man, a wolf."
Elena stepped forward, staring at the drawing, "A werewolf."
"Yeah, it's the "Lockwood Diaries: Pictionary-Style."" Damon said to the doppelganger.
Elena shook her head in denial, "I don't understand. I thought the Lockwoods came here with the Original Founders in the 1860s."
"I don't know." Alaric told Elena, shrugging, "Maybe the Lockwoods did, but according to this wall, these werewolves have been here a lot longer than that."
"How long?" Faye asked him.
"Long." Damon told her, "It gets better." He said before looking at Alaric, "Show them, Ric."
Alaric moved to another part of the cave wall and shined his flashlight on the runic scripts, "Names." He said, "They're not native. They're written in Runic, a Viking script."
"Viking?" Elena questioned.
Alaric pointed to one of the names, the one in the middle, "This name here, I translated it and it reads Niklaus."
"Klaus." Faye breathed out.
"And Elijah..." Alaric continued reading down the list, "And Rebekah."
Faye canted her head to the side in disbelief, "These are the names of the Original Family?"
"Carved into a cave that's been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls. Or even the entire New World, for that matter." Alaric said back to her.
"Okay, this has gotta be one of Klaus's fakes." Elena said with a scoff.
"That's what I said." Damon quickly agreed.
Alaric shook his head, "That could be true, except the last name up here made us think otherwise." He gestured down to another name in runic writing.
Elena paused for a moment, looking at it, before saying in it, "What's the name?"
"Mikael."
"Mikael." The name sounded familiar to Faye, "Mikael, as in, the vampire hunter who knows how to kill Klaus?"
Damon smirked at her shock, "Yep. I now like to call him, "Papa Original"."
"What?!"
__
Faye now stood beside Alaric in his loft, examining the photos of all the drawings. The current one she had in her hand was of what looked like a moon and fangs paired with lower canines. She didn't really know if it meant werewolf or not, but she would figure it out.
"These images tell a story..." Alaric said out loud, "To learn the story, you have to decipher these images."
"Sloppy!" Damon shouted from behind them as he disarmed Elena while he helped her combat training.
Elena took the stake back, annoyed, "Shut up! I'm new at this."
"Ghost of Christmas Past" Mason Lockwood set up the cave and lead us to a weapon that can kill Klaus." Damon said to Alaric.
"Yeah, but doesn't Mikael have a weapon?" Faye asked the eldest Salvatore, not looking at him.
"Yes. Which probably means the wall will lead us to Mikael, who we have already found..." He paused for a moment, "And lost." He overwhelmed Elena, "Bang! You're dead!" He pretended to feed from her neck. Elena pushed him away playfully, giving him a fake scowl.
"These images at the very least might tell us what that weapon is." Alaric tried to find hope in the situation.
Elena walked away from Damon and up to the table, "Then all we have to do is find out what they mean."
"Fine!" Damon shouted. He made his way over to stand next to Elena and Faye,
Fine! If I am being irritatingly optimistic like you three..." He glanced over at Elena, "How do you suppose we do that?"
"Well, if the story is about the Original Family living here, then we go straight to the source!" Elena patted her hand down on the table.
Damon nodded, "Fine. While you do that Faye and I will visit our favorite broody vampire..." He smiled over at Faye warmly, placing his hand on her shoulder. Faye reached up and patted it in return.
__
"She's going to tell me. She's scared of him, Damon. I saw her face. I just have to engage in a little "mean girl" power struggle first."
Faye listened in on Damon and Elena's conversation as she trotted down the rickety staircase behind Damon down into the old Forbes holding cell. It had been nearly thirty minutes since they both had left Alaric's loft in Damon's car. They would have gotten there sooner, but Faye had started trying to decipher all the images, so Damon had to drag her away.
"Well, make sure she doesn't power struggle you into a wheelchair." Damon responded to Elena. Faye sighed and finally got to the bottom of the stairs.
"I've got this, Damon. If we can figure out a way to kill Klaus, Stefan will be free of his compulsion." Faye heard Elena say as she walked over to the cell door. She stood on the tips of her toes to see through the small window.
Stefan looked pitiful. His head lagged to the side and his skin was a sickening color. Sweat beads fell down from his forehead and onto his lap. The sight of him made Faye's heart squeeze in agony. He was her best friend and she hated seeing him like this, despite the fact he was supposed to be getting better.
Damon came up behind her to look in too as he continued to chat on the phone, "Mmm... Pasty and pouty."
Faye elbowed Damon in the ribs and moved her hand to open the cell door. Damon ended the conversation with Elena as Faye pushed the door open. Faye stepped in first and Stefan lifted up his head to look at them.
"You look like crap." Faye muttered. She walked over to him and bent down. She gently grabbed Stefan's chin and stared him in the eyes, trying to get any hint of emotion inside of him. When she saw nothing, her face dropped with disappointment and she backed away from the vampire.
"You know, if you all are gonna keep me locked in here for the next decade, I think we can skip the routine visits." Stefan rasped out, weak from the starvation.
"You know I'm not a big champion in this whole Lexi-Recovery-Plan..." Damon said to his younger brother, "But Elena thinks this place is gonna weaken you up, break you down and make you feel again..."
Stefan dryly laughed, "We should all listen to Elena, right? I mean her plans always work out so well, don't they?" He paused, "Why are you here?"
"What are you talking about? It's Family Day at of Vampire Rehab!" Damon threw up his hands excitedly, "So, I'm paying a visit to my baby brother."
"And Faye?"
"I'm family, Stef, why wouldn't I be here?"
Stefan scowled at them both, "Go away."
"That's rude." Faye made a face at the younger Salvatore.
"Nahhh. I thought we could hang out, a little brother bonding." Damon teased Stefan, "How've you been, Stef? Huh?"
Stefan avoided that subject and moved on to another, "You know, Klaus may wanna keep Elena alive, but that doesn't mean she's safe with Rebekah..."
"You're lying." Faye accused as soon as he finished, "Klaus compelled you to protect Elena, and if you thought for even a second that she was in danger, you'd be working a lot harder."
Stefan grinned sarcastically, "You got me. You got me!"
"Yep." Damon smirked proudly.
"You got me." Stefan repeated to Faye, "You're good. Congratulations! You can go now." He stared at Damon and Faye and then towards the door.
Damon stared back at his brother, his eyes narrowing for a moment, "You really have given up."
"Actually this is my happy face."
Faye sighed. This was not helping Stefan at all, she could tell. She needed to get him out of there if possible.
Damon seemed to have the same idea. The elder Salvatore broke the chains bonding Stefan to the chair. Faye did not protest when Stefan stood up and caressed his wrists.
"Screw this Lexi-plan." Damon said as he started exciting out the door, "I think we could all use a drink."
__
Damon chose a small bar outside of town to go to, full of dirty men and slutty women. Faye didn't honestly like it there or wanted to be there at all, but she needed to keep her boys out of trouble.
Faye pressed her own phone to her ear as she trailed behind Damon and Stefan. She had took it upon herself to check up on Elena in case Rebekah had done something bad.
"Hello?" Elena answered after three rings.
"Hey!" Faye shouted over the loud music.
"Faye, where are you?" Elena asked.
Faye looked around and sighed, "Somewhere horrible." She scrunched up her nose as a sleazy man looked her up and down, "You still free of bite marks?"
"Yes, I'm fine, but I can't talk right now." Elena responded, sounding a bit distressed.
Faye wasn't quick enough to cover the phone so Elena couldn't hear Stefan when he spoke, saying Damon and him will be at the bar. She winced at the startled noise that came from Elena through the speaker.
"Is that Stefan?"
"Damon let him out." Faye revealed, "I think I know what he's doing though."
"How could you let Damon let him out?" Elena shouted.
"I'm looking out for them, don't worry." Faye ended the conversation, hanging up her phone. She made her way over to where Damon and Stefan were already at the bar. Faye took a seat on the stool besides Damon, "What are we drinking then?"
"Hopefully something a little bit warmer..." Stefan said, his eyes following the blonde bartender, "And a little bit blonder..."
The said bartender walked over to them with a sweet smile, "Hi."
Damon gave her a flirty smile in return, "Hello..." He read her name tag and looked back up quickly, "Callie. I would love two shots of your best whiskey and my brother here would love..." He leaned forward and began to compel her, "A shot of you." Callie did as she was told before walking back over and handing Stefan her wrist.
Stefan gently took her wrist and went for a drink, but stopped to glance curiously at his older brother, "What's the catch, Damon?"
"No catch, brother. Drink up. It's on me." Damon patted Stefan's back before looking over at Faye, "Now, it's your turn to loosen up a bit, Miss uptight."
Faye waved her hand at him, "I'm good. I'm on babysitting duty for you two morons."
"We don't need a babysitter. I have everything under control."
Faye scoffed at him, "You never do, Damon. You never do."
__
About an hour later, Damon and Stefan were sitting at a small table playing quarters, a game Faye thought was stupid as she watched from the bar. She was currently nursing a glass of whiskey, trying to lay of the liquor since the last time she truly drank and got drunk, she killed over fifty people.
It was nice to see the two Salvatores bonding and not fighting or bonding over saving Elena together for once. They were drinking together and having a little party with the blonde bartender.
Faye turned back to the bar, deciding it was okay to not watch over them any longer. It wasn't like they would do anything stupid if she turned her back for a few seconds. She took a small sip of her whiskey, scrunching up her nose at the bitter taste when she did.
"And why aren't you having fun?" Faye felt a poke at her cheek
Faye turned her head to look at Damon, who had successfully snuck up on her in seconds, "I'm having the time of my life, Damon." She deadpanned.
"No you're not." Damon replied in a serious tone, "Faye, come on, loosen up."
"Damon..." Faye sighed, "I'm babysitting you guys. Making sure nothing goes haywire since we both allowed a recovering addict out of rehab."
"You are the one that needs to drink the most out of all of us." Damon said to her, placing his hand on her shoulder, "You saw the dead parents that you killed, you were being haunted by every human you killed over the summer, and you have an Original living in your house with you."
Faye narrowed her eyes at him, not doing anything. Damon gave her a pleading glance.
"Fine." Faye decided to knock back her whole whiskey, not phased by the bitterness that time, "Let's have some fun."
__
Faye ended up dancing with Damon on top of the bar to an upbeat song. Her head was thrown back as she giggled. She swung her hips and laced her hands in her own hair. The strawberry blonde wasn't intoxicated, but she was slightly buzzed.
Damon and her turned their heads to check on Stefan who had the bartender Callie pressed against a pillar. The usual brooding vampire was feasting on the woman's neck, though it seemed more like he was kissing her from their place on the bar.
A woman stopped in front of them, her eyes narrowing in confusion. Faye knew she was watching how the girl's eyes were starting to roll into the back of her head. She jumped off the bar, Damon following close behind her. Damon went compel the girl while Faye yanked Stefan off the girl.
"Hey, hey ease up!" She pulled him back further, "Ease up."
Damon walked over with a scarf and patted Stefan's shoulder, "She is giving us her employee discount." He then turned to the bartender and pulled the scarf around her throat, covering the bite mark Stefan left on her, "And now, just run along." He said, compelling her. She nodded and went back to her own work.
The eldest Salvatore guided his brother and who he thought of as a sister to the bar and they all sat down. Damon called out for another round of drinks. Faye took hers and began sipping at her whiskey.
"Alright!" Stefan finally cracked, "Tell me what's up. What's the point of the jailbreak, hm?"
Damon looked over at his brother and sighed, "I thought you could use a hug, Stefan." Faye nodded, agreeing with him.
"Come on, Damon. You know Elena is gonna hate you for letting me out. And we both know that you care about what she thinks... " Stefan trailed off, his eyebrows raised at Damon.
Damon just shrugged, "Maybe I wanted to remind you what freedom was like, before Klaus took it from you."
"As long as Klaus is alive, I do what he says."
"That's the point, Stefan." Faye said, speaking up about the truth of this all, "You've given up!" She stood up and poked at his chest, her drink in hand, "Now you could sit around and still be his little bitch like my boyfriend, or you get mad enough and you can do something about it."
"Faye, he can't be killed." Stefan said to her.
"Maybe I can help with that." A british accent seeped into the conversation. Faye turned around, her eyes meeting stormy blue ones with a cold meanor behind them, "The Salvatore clan, I presume."
"Mikael."
__
"Is Klaus out of the country?"
"I can't tell you."
"Has he spoken to you since he left?"
"I can't tell you."
The interrogation of Stefan Salvatore concerning Klaus Mikaelson has gone on for at least thirty minutes and nothing has come out of it. Mikael was persistent on figuring him out and Faye was bored. With his arrival, Faye wanted to know the answer to the question she needed answered; could he kill Klaus or not?
Mikael huffed, "All right. Can you tell me the last time you spoke to Niklaus?"
"I'm compelled to do what he says, and he says to keep my damn mouth shut." Stefan retorted.
"I really hope this game of 20 questions isn't your secret weapon." Faye's mouth moved to quickly for her brain to process. It was a habit of hers.
"You see, Faye..." Mikael placed his hand on her shoulder and moved to close for her liking, "I've been a vampire hunter longer than your friends here have been alive. It's why I found you here. It's why I'm gonna find Niklaus."
"Well, Klaus has been running for about thousand years, if you think this may work by questioning Stefan then..." She couldn't even finish before a hand was slammed into her chest and wrapped tightly around her heart.
Faye's eyes welled with tears of pain and fear. She choked, staring down at the hand in her body. Both of the Salvatore brothers were in shock. Damon's eyes were filled with worry for her and Stefan- she couldn't tell what he was feeling because he couldn't feel anything at all.
She felt Mikael give a small tug at her heart as Damon moved to jump up. The hybrid let out a gasp in pain, clenching her eyes shut. Tears began streaming down her face.
"Careful, boys. One move-" Mikael repeated the motion, "And her heart's gone." His hand went deeper into Faye's chest, the movement harsh on her, "Now, where is Klaus?"
Stefan refused to still answer. Damon kept looking at him, pleadingly, needing Stefan to say something in order to save Faye's life. Faye kept her eyes shut, waiting for it all to be over.
"What's the trick question, Stefan?" The original vampire asked. "One twist and she's dead. Unless you don't care of course."
"His emotions have been shut off. He can't care." Damon attempted to reason with Mikael.
"Really? His link to Klaus is so strong that he will let the girl he considers his own sister die?" Mikael rhetorically asked Damon. His hand wrapped tighter around Faye's heart and she whimpered. Death was so close and she had been prepared for it when she willingly offered herself for a sacrifice, but not now.
"No ideas, hmm? Think, Stefan!" Mikael said to Stefan. The youngest Salvatore still did not reply.
Mikael let out a fake sigh and looked at Damon, "I guess you're right. He's a dead end." His eyes then landed on Faye who was preparing for the blow, "And so are you, Faye."
Faye squeezed her eyes shut even tighter as she prepared for the blow. Luckily enough, Stefan jumped up before Mikael tore out her heart.
"Wait!" He shouted, "I can bring him back. I can lure Klaus back to Mystic Falls."
Mikael grinned and tore his hand out of Faye's chest, leaving her heart inside her. Faye let out a breath of air she had been holding and fell back into Damon's arms, trying to catch her breath. She didn't care if she had shown weakness because she was allowed to be not strong for once.
"And there is our loophole. Just had to rile him up a bit." Mikael said most likely to himself. He glanced over at Stefan, "Get Klaus back to Mystic Falls, and I will gladly drive a stake through his heart. Fail, I'll drive it through yours."
He turned and left the three alone. Faye cuddled into Damon's chest as he held her tight, sobbing.
At least she knew that she could actually die...
__
Faye didn't take a ride from Damon. She wanted to get home as soon as possible so she ran all the way back to where she currently resided. The strawberry blonde entered the home and soon heard the sobs of Rebekah and the sounds of thinkings breaking.
Faye walked into the kitchen of the house where Lacey was, cradling a cup of tea in her hands looking stressed. She threw her bag on to the table and looked at her aunt.
"What happened to Rebekah?" Faye asked quietly.
Lacey sighed, "Elena told her that Klaus killed her mother, not Mikael. Now, she wants Klaus dead." She glanced at her niece and noticed the large gaping hole in her shirt stained with blood. The vampire stood up, looking at her worriedly.
"Faye..." She quickly moved over to stand next to Faye, "Are you okay?"
Faye didn't reply. Instead she broke out in to sobs, the weight on her shoulders crashing down upon her. Lacey wrapped her arms around the girl, hugging her close.
"I'm not okay." Faye let out a loud cry, clutching on to her aunt's shoulders, "I will never be okay."
Lacey gained a pitiful look as she rubbed the girl's back, doing her best to comfort her.
"Just let it out..."

A/N: I updated at midnight after almost a month of not updating. Gosh, this chapter was horrible because this episode is not a favorite of mine. Next chapter will be a lot better.
Next chapter: Homecoming, Klaye reunion, and more Mikael.
