THIRTY SEVEN ▶ A HELPING HAND

"Stop kissing each other it's disgusting." Faye told Lacey and Elijah who were both in the kitchen, basically making out with each other.

Mornings in the Daniels' household now consisted of it and made Faye want to puke her guts out. She loved that they both were happy and in love, but she was bitter. Her boyfriend was gone and all she knew of his whereabouts were that he wasn't with her. She understood that he left to break the sire bond, but she couldn't help but be selfish and want him back.

"Don't be rude." Elijah scolded her, pulling away from kissing the blonde he had in his arms.

"I'm allowed to be rude." Faye responded, pointing her fork that was covered in syrup and the remains of pancakes she had just finished devouring towards him, "You ate all my cereal this morning."

"I didn't know it was yours."

"How can you not know it was mine?" Faye asked in outrage, "Did you miss the big letters on the front spelling out 'FAYE'S CEREAL DO NOT EAT'? Did some worms get into your box and eat away at your brain while you were daggered, Elijah? Is that why you can't read?"

Elijah chuckled at her antics and walked over to her. He pressed a loving kiss to her temple, causing her to push him away playfully. Lacey smiled at the two, glad to see Elijah loosening up. Faye was one of the only people to get Elijah to roll up his sleeves and kick back. It was a sight to see; one of the best.

"So, what are you up to today?" Lacey questioned Faye, walking over to take her plate and clean it, "Think you can stay in and help me clean out the attic?"

"Not today, aunt of mine. I'm heading to North Carolina with the only person of my pack right now I don't hate." Faye answered, moving to take a drink of her blood, mixed with her herbs that she needed to take.

"Miss Forbes?" Elijah asked.

"Correctamundo." The strawberry blonde said, "Bonnie's mom is having some trouble coping with being a vamp so me and Care are going there to help. Bring some blood bags, teach her how to zoom around; the basics."

Lacey huffed, "Well I can always do it when you're home. There's stuff up there that's yours that you should look through."

"We'll make it a date." Faye said just as she heard a beep of a horn and the yell of Caroline with her vampire hearing. She moved to kiss Lacey and Elijah both on the cheek, "I'll see you idiots tomorrow morning." She walked out of the kitchen and towards the door, grabbing her purse and such, "Don't do anything I would do while I'm gone!" She called back as she walked out the door.

"No promises!" Lacey replied, causing Faye to grin. The hybrid shut the door behind her before walking over to Caroline's car. She opened the passenger side door and hopped in.

"Let's hit the road blondie!"

__

The four hour drive to Charlotte was a long one. Faye remembered when she had gone with Bonnie and Elena. It had been hell to sit in the backseat and listen to their gossip as she played on her phone. This time it was a lot easier except Caroline would not let her touch the radio.

"Justin Bieber can only be played so many times, Care!" Faye exclaimed, trying to reach towards the radio. The blonde had a clasp on her wrist while still driving like a pro, "I don't want to hear another peep out of his mouth."

"Well then I'll change the radio if it bothers you so much." Caroline responded.

"No! Then you'll play something worse!" Faye whined, "Let me chose!"

"Fine." Caroline pushed Faye back into her seat before switching off the radio, "No music then if you're gonna fight me over it."

The strawberry blonde let out a loud huff in annoyance and slid back down into her seat with a pout on her face. Caroline rolled her eyes and focused back on the road, two hands on the wheel. Faye made the decision to pull out her phone and check her calls and messages, something she did everyday. Ever since Tyler had left her a voicemail that day, she had hope he would call her again and this time she could answer.

"Tyler still hasn't messaged you?" Caroline questioned with a solemn look on her face.

Faye shook her head and sighed, "No. Nothing ever since the voicemail."

"Have you tried calling him?" Caroline then asked.

"Of course." The hybrid replied, "I try at least once a day, he never answers. I try texting him and he doesn't reply."

Caroline gave the girl a sympathetic glance, quickly returning her eyes to the road, "I'm sorry, Faye."

"I'm worried. He just left and I didn't even know where he was headed." Faye ran her hand through her hair that fell down on to her shoulders, "I miss him. I miss him so much. We fought at homecoming and it was so stupid. I told him I couldn't be with him because of the sire bond and now all I wanna do is be with him and kiss him." She could feel herself wanting to cry, but she wouldn't allow it, "He told me he loved me before he left." She said, revealing the one thing she hadn't told anyone.

"He did?" Caroline asked, pairing her question with a soft gasp. Faye nodded, "What did you say back?"

"Well the first time he said it, I kissed him." Faye told her, "The second time, I didn't say anything and then he left. The third was over voicemail so..."

"But do you love him back?"

There was silence throughout the car as Faye thought. Did she love Tyler? It was a question she hadn't answered, but one she thought about a lot. It kept her awake at night as she sat, curled up with a his sweatshirt, using his scent to keep her calm so she didn't freak out. It took her a while to find the answer, but she did so.

"I think so." Faye answered in full honesty, "I think I love him."

"What about Klaus?"

The question made Faye jolt up and stare at Caroline as if she was crazy, "What about him?"

"You like him."

"I don't like Klaus, Caroline." Faye said with a loud obvious scoff, "Why would you even assume that?"

"At the ball you were dancing with him." Caroline answered, "You had this look in your eyes. I don't know what it was, but you were admiring him Faye. He was doing the same and you looked happy together. Not to mention you kept the drawing he gave you and when I was over the other day you were just sitting there looking at it."

"Caroline, you're talking crazy." Faye looked at the blonde with her eyes widened and her eyebrows raised, "I don't like Klaus. He's done so much to hurt me and my pack. I could never like him like that, not even a little bit. We're not even friends. We're enemies and if killing him wouldn't kill Elijah, he would be dead right now. Dead."

Caroline let out a sigh, "Alright." She said with a small nod, knowing if she went into it anymore Faye would freak out, "I guess I was wrong."

She knew she wasn't though, but she wouldn't say that outloud.

__

After another hour, Caroline and Faye arrived to the small home that belonged to Abby Bennett. The strawberry blonde walked up to the home with Caroline who dragged a ice cooler behind her full of blood bags for Abby. Bonnie stood on the porch, looking over at them.

"Hey." Caroline greeted the witch.

"Hey."

The two stepped up on to the porch and placed the cooler down. Caroline had a bright smile on her face as she opened the cooler they had brought, "We totally lucked out. The hospital just had a blood drive, so I got some O negatives, some A's, and my personal favorite-" She pulled one of the bags of with a grin on her face, "B positive."

It was then when she noticed that neither of the girls were listening to her, but instead looking on at Abby who stood in her garden. She stood next to an empty birdbath with a blank expression on her face. Faye tilted her head to the side with a frown on her face.

"I made her a daylight ring." Bonnie told Faye and Caroline, "She's been standing out there all morning. I don't think she's taking this very well."

"Well, it's only been a few days since she turned. Your mom is still adjusting." Faye said to Bonnie, still watching the older Benett. She stepped down from the porch with Caroline and Bonnie following her. She stopped in the garden standing not to far from Abby.

"Ms. Wilson, why don't you come inside? Have something to drink?" Caroline asked her.

"There's some blood bags in the cooler." Faye told the woman.

Abby didn't reply, instead spoke with a depressing look on her face, "I can't feel it any more." She said, "My garden, it's gone. I can't feel anything." She turned on her heel and made her way back towards the house.

Caroline sighed when she was gone, "I don't understand."

"Witches have a connection to the Earth. We can literally feel nature. Life." Bonnie kneeled down beside a pot with a dead plant in it. She cupped her hands around it and began mumbling a soft spell. The flower slowly began to become green again and bloom. The petals spread open and Bonnie opened her eyes with a smile on her face, "When Abby became a vampire, she lost it. I don't know how to help her."

Faye bit her lip, looking towards the door Abby had just gone into. She understood the woman. If she had lost connection to her wolf side, she would have gone insane. She loved have the wild animal side of her. She felt free with it and a lot like herself.

She needed to help Abby as much as possible.

__

Faye had been doing her best to help Abby with everything, but it seemed that it wasn't helping much. So, Faye made it her quest to bring the one thing that she wanted help with inside the house so they could talk out their problems. She journeyed out to the small rundown barn she had been shot in a couple of weeks before where Jamie was chopping up some wood. He looked up when she arrived, holding the axe tightly in his hands.

"Haven't seen you up at the house." Faye said to him, "Abby's been asking for you."

"I've been pretty busy." He replied.

Faye let out a sigh before bending down to pick up some firewood.

"Hey, hey!"

She only got a face full of a metal blade though and she took a step back, raising her hands in surrender to Jamie who had the axe pointed to her.

"Stay away from me!" Jamie told her.

"Hold up!" Faye said in outrage, "I was just gonna help you carry the firewood up." She looked towards him, seeing the fear in his eyes as he looked towards the strawberry blonde hybrid. It made her realize why he wouldn't come inside the home he had lived in, "You're scared of her."

"She's a vampire." He said.

"She needs to feel connected to the people she loves." Faye told him from what she had learned from her days with Stefan. When he was helping Caroline, she had been around and learned exactly what to do in these situations, "She needs to feel normal right now."

Jamie shook his head, "She's not normal. None of this is normal!"

"Abby didn't chose to be turned! I doubt she wanted to have blood forced down her throat and her neck snapped!" Faye defended the said woman, "She could have let herself die, but she didn't. She's trying to make this work so she can be there for you and for Bonnie. So....." Her phone began to ring, causing her to huff, "So get over yourself, alright?"

The hybrid turned on her heel and reached into her back pocket to grab her phone. She didn't check the caller id before she pressed the green button and pressed her phone to her ear, "Hello?"

"Faye don't hang up-"

That's exactly what she did. The minute Elena Gilbert's voice seeped through the phone, she pulled it away from her ear and ended the call without hesitation. At that second, she heard another phone ring, one that was not her own. She followed the sound to the front porch where Caroline sat with her phone now pressed to her ear. She gave Faye a stern look at Elena's words, stating Faye had hung up on her.

"What's going on?" Caroline then asked.

"Bonnie's not returning any of my calls." Elena said to the blonde.

The vampire sighed, "Sorry, she's still mad and seriously Abby's transition has been a little rough, so she's got a lot on her mind."

"I know and I get it but, something really terrible has happened to Ric and..." The words made Faye perk up in worry, "and I really need her help."

"Tell her we'll try." Faye immediately said. Though Alaric wasn't one of her favorite people right now, he was still her friend no matter what, "But there are no promises."

Caroline nodded, understanding. She repeated the words back to Elena before the doppelganger went into explaining what was wrong. Faye let out a sigh as she heard the deal with Alaric and the ring. All they needed were more problems.

__

"Stop eating the food as I cook it." Bonnie said to Faye, slapping her hand away from the spoon that was sitting in the pot of sauce. The hybrid huffed and rolled her eyes at the Bennett witch.

She heard the front door open, causing her to turn around. Jamie walked into the kitchen awkwardly. Faye smiled at him, along with Bonnie who had just noticed he had walked in.

"Who are you again?" Bonnie joking asked.

"The guy who lives out back." Jamie said in the same tone as her, "You know, the one you're not related to."

"Right.

Jamie stuff his hands in his pockets at the awkward tension in the air before speaking again, "Your friend here and I had a talk."

"I lectured him Lacey style." Faye corrected with a smirk.

"Maybe, but I needed it. Abby's always been there for me, now it's my turn." The dark skinned boy held up two pieces of fire and smiled, "Thought I could build a fire."

"Please." Bonnie told him, "Maybe it'll distract everyone from my crappy cooking."

He left to the living room where the fire place was and Faye turned to Bonnie for a high five. The witch reluctantly returned it with an eye roll. Bonnie continued cooking, until Faye froze when she heard the painful yell of Jamie and the smell of blood. She rushed into the living room with Bonnie trailing behind her. She yanked Abby off Jamie. Bonnie caused an aneurysm for Abby as Faye went to help the boy she attacked.

Faye took no time to tear into her own flesh and place her bleeding wrist to his mouth, "Drink it." She told him. He listened, taking a few pulls from her wrist reluctantly before she pulled it away. The hybrid helped him get to his feet before moving towards Abby who looked horrified at what she had done to Jamie.

Faye moved to the woman and helped her up, "Come on, Abby. Let's get you out of here."

After the scare, Faye brought Abby as far as possible from Jamie , who was being checked over by Caroline. She had begun to pace outside the barn, hating herself for what she had done. Bonnie stood with Faye, trying to coax Abby at the same time to drink a blood bag.

"You have to drink these, it'll help." Faye said, holding a blood bag out to the newly turned vampire.

"I almost killed him!" Abby yelled out, upset with herself.

"Caroline said that this kind of thing happens a lot at first when you're still new." Bonnie tried to assure Abby that it was alright. Faye nodded in agreement with her.

The older Bennett shook her head wildly, "No, no! I should just go before I hurt Jamie again or you!"

"The only way you're gonna hurt me is if you leave." Bonnie said sternly, "Don't give up on this. Not again. We can make this work."

The words changed Abby's decision and she took the bag from Faye and began to drink from it. Just as she did so, Caroline came out with a smile on her face.

"He's fine. Nothing a little vampire blood can't cure." Caroline told them, directing her eyes towards Faye.

"Thank you." Abby said to them both.

Caroline smiled before she then let out a sigh, "Now, I need a favor."

__

Abby had told them everything they needed for Alaric and Bonnie went on her way back to Mystic Falls to perform the spell necessary to fix him. Faye and Caroline both stayed behind to watch over Abby and make sure she didn't hurt Jamie or herself at any moment.

She was in the kitchen of the home, trying to fix herself a mug of blood before she sat on the couch with Jamie and watched a Marvel movie he had put in. They bonded over such, seeing as Faye loved action more than the romance. As she did so, her phone began to ring. She moved to answer it, pressing it to her ear.

"Hello?"

"Damon used me." Rebekah's angered voice seeped through the phone, "He used me to find out what we were looking for. He stole my thoughts."

Faye frowned deeply, "What do you mean?"

"He found out there was another tree." Rebekah explained to her, "And he's going to find it and use it to kill us. Sage told me where it is and now we are going for it."

Faye clenched the counter top as she heard of Damon's plans. Despite how upset she had gotten over it, he was still out to kill the Originals, which consisted of an important person in her small family. She couldn't believe him; after all she had done for him.

"Wait, Sage?"

"She showed up in town today looking for my brother." Rebekah revealed, "As I was looking for you. Where were you today?"

"I'm not at your beck and call now that we are somewhat on the same side. I'm doing things that have no importance to you." The hybrid had calmed down and went to grab her mug. She brought it to her lips, taking a sip, "Are you going to burn the white oak?"

"We're in the middle of it right now." The Original answered. Faye could practically hear the smirk on her face.

"When Damon shows up, rub it in his face for me."

"Will do. Nik sends his love. I'll tell him you send yours." Rebekah said. Faye went protest against it, but she hung up before she could.

The Daniels girl huffed before walking out into the living room where Jamie and Caroline were on the sofa with Captain America on the screen.

__

The next morning had gone smoothly. Faye woke up on the couch with word from Bonnie that everything was alright in Mystic Falls with Alaric and everyone. She was glad to hear it despite the fact she was angry with most of them.

When everyone sans Abby was awake, they all went out to the garden and began working on making it look more full of life since most of it had been dead when they arrived.  Faye was struggling to plant the sprouts correctly, letting out an angry groan.

"Am I even doing this right?" She asked, annoyed as she pushed the soil into place.

"Yeah, you're doing fine." Jamie said with a soft chuckle. He then turned slightly serious, "Hey – uh – thanks for helping out with Abby. Bonnie's really lucky to have a friend like you both." He said to both Faye and Caroline.

"Well, I went through the same thing once. With my dad. But it didn't really work out, so...you know." Caroline mentioned her father's death. Faye moved to rub the girl's arm comfortingly, which she appreciated.

Caroline jumped up immediately and sighed, "Well, when Bonnie gets back she can snap her fingers or wave her hands or whatever and make the herbs bloom.

Faye heard something in the house, causing her to turn towards the red paneled home, "Abby's up." She said. She decided to go check on her, leaving Caroline and Jamie outside by themselves before walking in. Abby was sitting at the coffee table, writing something down on a sheet of paper. Faye noticed the bags that sat next to her, stuffed to the brim.

"What are you doing?" She asked, knowing the answer already when Abby looked towards her, "You're leaving." Faye let out a scoff, "You're fucking kidding me, right?"

"I have to. I don't know how to do this." Abby told her.

"What? Be a vampire?" Faye questioned, the words coming out in a sneer, "Or be a parent?" Abby looked towards her, not saying a thing, "Because I can help you be a vampire, I can teach you self-control, but being a parent, I mean that's all you." The woman wasn't phased by her words, "Bonnie grew up without a mom, because you ran away once, but now you have an eternity to make up for it and you're just gonna throw that away?"

"She's better off without me."

"No, she is not!" Faye nearly yelled out, "No one is better off without their parents. I am living proof of that." The hybrid ran her hand through her hair, "She wants to make this work. Please. Just stay." She finished in a pleading tone.

Abby got up anyways and grabbed her bag, finished with writing her note, "Tell them I'm sorry." She said to Faye before leaving.

Faye watched her go with a solemn expression on her face. She couldn't help Abby and she knew it would hurt Bonnie in the long run.
