THIRTY EIGHT ▶ THE ATTIC

"We're hoarders."

The words slipped out of Faye Daniels mouth as she stared into the attic of her home with Lacey beside her. It was filled to the brim with trunks and bins most likely stuffed with clothing from different era's. There was a rack with clothes in hanging garment bags that kept them from gaining dust. Books were piled high on shelves and Faye even swore she spotted an old record player in the back with an Elvis record lying on top of it.

"We're not hoarders." Lacey told her niece as she looked at the mess herself, "We're vampires who collect stuff over the ages."

"Hoarding." Faye corrected her, walking into the attic, "We're gonna find something dead in here. I hope it's something cool."

"You're terrifying." Lacey muttered as she walked over towards one of the trunks labelled with a decade on it.

"But you love me though right?"

"Someone's gotta do it." When Lacey said that, Faye grabbed the nearest thing to her, a photo album, and threw it in the blonde's direction. The vampire immediately caught it and set it down beside her before turning to glare at her niece, "This attic ain't gonna' clean itself."

The hybrid pouted at her aunt and stomped her way over to one of the boxes that had that year 1700 written on it. Faye plopped in front of it before clicking it open. She began rifling through everything, trying to find something that peaked her interest.

"So what is all this stuff?" Faye asked Lacey who was placing books into a pile and moving them aside.

"Mostly just my old stuff and some of your dad's. Dresses, photos, books, stuff we owned from the old days we never got rid of."  Lacey told her, "Other stuff is your stuff. Like your highchair, baby clothes, I think the bike you learned to ride on is up here somewhere."

"I had a bike?" Faye questioned, her eyes wide and bright.

"Of course." The blonde answered, "It was ninja turtles. You adored it."

She jumped up, ditching the box of poofy dresses and and corsets to go look for the bike. Lacey knew exactly what she was doing as she moved boxes of stuff quickly around, using her vamp speed, until she found the green bike that was barely taller than her waist. Faye wheeled it out into the middle of the attic where it was clear with a wide smile on her face.

"You've had this hidden up here all this time?" Faye questioned, moving to sit down on the seat. She didn't dare try to ride it, not really remembering the time she learned. She moved her hand on to the horn on the handlebar, squeaking it loudly. The hybrid let out a giggle, "I wish my car honked like this. It'd be a lot funnier when I get road rage."

It was then when she noticed the smile on Lacey's face. Faye tilted her head to the side with a small smile of her own, "What?"

"I just thought I'd never see you on that bike again." Lacey told her. A fond look grew on her face as she stared at her niece, "When your dad took the training wheels off for the first time and tried to teach you how to ride it without them, you crashed into a tree. You had a few scrapes and bruises that healed, but you were emotionally scarred. You refused to ever ride that bike again because it was evil."

Faye snorted, "I sound like a drama queen."

"You were one and still are one. You get it from your dad." The blonde vampire toyed with her daylight ring that sat on her right hand ring finger. She went to speak again, but Faye's phone ringing in her back pocket interrupted their chat. The hybrid pulled it out and looked at the caller ID.

"Speaking of drama queens." She groaned before answering the call, knowing he would be the persistent man he was and come to her house to speak to her, "What do you want?"

"Usually people greet each other the phone with 'hello' and you're just mean, love."

Faye rolled her eyes at his words and spoke, "I will repeat my question now; what do you want, Klaus?"

"Well, I am in the midst of bring the family back together and then unlinking us all." Klaus began to tell her, "Elijah has already made his generous donation along with Rebekah and Kol. Now all I have to do is go grab the blood traitor Finn."

"And you know where he is?"

"Of course. I'm going to grab him in a moment. Fancy coming along, love?" Klaus asked her.

"Hmmm." She fake pondered about it for a while, "No."

"We're on the same side now, Faye." The man on the other line spoke in a tone that made her sigh in annoyance, "You don't have to play games."

"Just because we have a common goal now Klaus, it doesn't mean I don't hate you. I still want to murder you, but I just can't at the moment." Faye told him with a small shrug, "And you sound like you've got everything under control right now so, have fun grabbing Finn. Don't get killed because I'd like to keep the one of the only parental figures I have in my life right now. Bye." She hung up the phone with a cheery smile on her face. She put it back in her back pocket before focusing on her bike once again.

"I'm definitely going to try this out later."

"And then we are going to donate it to a boy or girl who will love it just as much as you did." Lacey replied with a small smile, turning back to organize all the photo albums she had stacked beside her. Faye grinned and hopped off the bike, getting back to work.

__

They were half way through with cleaning out the attic. There were three piles in the middle of the room; keep, donate, and garbage. Most things were going into donate, besides books that Faye liked, dresses from the past, and photo albums. She also was keeping the bonnet she found and placed on her head as she dug through things.

This time she was searching through the 1920's era trunk. Faye had already chosen the dresses she wanted to keep for costume purposes and put the others she and Lacey didn't want in the donations pile. She was just getting to the end of the box, where most of the photo's and journals were. Faye kept her dad's journal, something she had been doing every time she found one. She wanted to get to know him and these seemed like the only way how.

She was currently flipping through a photo album from the era, looking at photo's of her father, Lacey, Elijah, Klaus, and even Rebekah. There were a few people she didn't recognize, like a dark skinned man wearing a soldier's uniform and a few other woman. One photo stuck out to her the most. It was Lacey with a dark skinned woman in a beautiful dress in some type of club. The woman looked recognizable, but Faye just couldn't place her finger on it.

"Hey Lacey." She called to her aunt who was looking at her old dresses from the 1700's. The woman turned towards her and Faye held up the album, "Who is this?"

Lacey walked over to get a closer look, taking the book into her hands. The minute she did, she froze up, a look of horror flashing in her eyes. She slowly looked over at Faye and told her, "That's Irene Le Doux.

"She seems familiar." Faye said, "Do I know her?"

"You know of her." Lacey told her, her voice strained. Faye tilted her head, waiting for a real answer, "She's the witch who did this to you."

Faye's eyebrows shot up to her forehead when she heard that. She stood up and took the photo album from her aunt. She stared at the photo, feeling a pang in her heart. This was the woman who destroyed her childhood and her family for the most part. And Lacey had taken a photo with her.

"Why would you take a picture with her?" Faye questioned, shaking her head.

Lacey let out a shaky breath before speaking, "She used to be my best friend."

"What?" Faye asked in shock.

"Before everything went down, yeah." Lacey revealed to her, "I met her at a risque club in 1908. She was one of the rogue witches who weren't aligning with the coven of New Orleans'. At the time they were performing sacrifices and such, and she didn't like that."

Faye snorted, "I think she changed her mind."

Lacey gave her a pointed glare before continuing, "At the time she didn't like it so, she left and began using her other talents to work at the club. I met her there and we became friends. She knew what I was and I knew what she was, but there was no problem."

"How did you guys go from friends to her cursing my whole existance before I was even born?" Faye questioned, curious about it. She had heard retellings of the story, but she knew they were more rehearsed words than the full truth. She wanted to know her origin story in full.

"You've heard the story, Faye. Your dad came into play." The blonde vampire sat down on a closed, empty trunk and began toying with her daylight ring, "He angered a pack of werewolves by stepping on to their territory. They threatened him by saying he would come after him on the full moon and he needed protection in the form of someone who wouldn't start more shit, namely Klaus."

"And he looked for a witch."

"And who better to ask for help than the best friend of your sister." Lacey huffed softly, "At first she didn't want to and then he convinced her by using his charm. It worked and he got her to work some witchy magic to protect him for a while."

"Then they said they were going to run away together and they didn't because my daddio stood her up." Faye continued. She noticed the guilty look that flashed across Lacey's face when she said that, "What aren't you telling me?"

Lacey's eyes darted towards her as she took a deep breath, attempting to build up enough courage to tell her, "I made your dad stand her up. I made him leave town with me." Faye frowned slightly, "The spells she used to protect him wore off and I heard the wolves were rallying and coming for the both of us. The minute I heard it, I ran to your father who was going to meet Irene in a couple of hours and I told him we had to get out of town now, no hesitation." She rubbed her forehead, "Your dad didn't and  wanted to get Irene first, but I made him leave her behind so we wouldn't die."

"You made him leave her behind?"

"She may have been my best friend, but I wasn't going to risk my brother's life for anyone." Lacey told Faye. She sighed, looking down at her bare feet, "But it seems I only made it worse."

"No." Faye jumped up to say, recognizing the look on her aunt's face. She wore that look for months when she first came back, "Do not blame yourself."

"I'm the one who pushed her to do it." Lacey said, "I didn't let him leave with her. I sealed your fate."

"No you didn't, Lacey." Faye told her, moving down to sit next to her aunt. The hybrid wrapped her arms comfortingly around the blonde vampire, "In the words of a man  and woman who loved us both very much, it was neither of our faults. It was that witch's fault who decided to go to extreme measures to ruin our lives."

"You're not mad?"

"Why would I be mad at you?" Faye asked, pressing her cheek against the woman's shoulder, "I love you too much."

Lacey looked over at her niece and smiled, "You're a dork you know that."

"You remind me every day." She felt a hand on her head and she knew exactly what she was doing, "Don't take my bonnet."

"Then you and your ugly bonnet need to help me finish with this attic."

__

Finishing the attic didn't take very long to finish, seeing as most of it was already packed away and done. They moved everything around and got it in it's right place before going to rest. The two women watched some television before Lacey went out to go have dinner with Elijah in a fancy restaurant out of town. Faye had been invited, but she had declined, saying she much rather stay in with a mug of blood.

As she sat on the couch, reading one of her father's journals. The current entry he was on spoke of his first meeting with her mother in a bar in a town over. The way he described her a redhead with a mouth on her made her chuckle. She swore she heard someone had said that exact thing to her before.

A knock sounded on the front door. She huffed and jumped to her feet, dropping the leather bound journal onto the couch. She padded over to the front door, her bare feet against the hardwood floor. Faye opened it and nearly slammed it almost immediately. A hand stopped it, keeping it open.

"Stefan, I don't want to talk." Faye told him, trying to push the door closed.

"I know you don't, but I need your help."

"Go find it somewhere else." She replied, placing her back against the door, trying to push it closed.

"Damon is in danger."

The words made her freeze. Despite the fact that she was angry with Damon, she still loved him dearly and cared about him. It was the reason she was so upset. She didn't want him to end up dead without any chance of becoming friends again.

Hearing Stefan say that ignited something inside her that made her open up the door with a murderous look on her face, "What happened?"

"Rebekah happened." Stefan told her, "He used her to get information on the white oak. She's getting her revenge."

"Of course." Faye sighed, rubbing her hand over her face, "What do you want me to do?"

"Come with me to get him back from Klaus and Rebekah. Maybe you can convince them since your working with them now." His town was bitter, making her roll her eyes, "If not, maybe I can convince them myself." Stefan held up a duffel bag so she could see it. He unzipped it and showed her the contents inside, wooden stakes. Faye frowned.

"Is that-"

"White oak stakes?" Stefan asked her. He shut the bag, but didn't zip it up this time as he nodded.

"That's not possible." Faye said to him, "Rebekah burned it all."

"Finn's dead."

The hybrid's eyes widened at his words and she clapped her hands together, "Oh great. Now there's that." She had to reveal to Elijah that his brother was dead and he could be killed if the stakes they had weren't burned, "I don't even want to ask why you did it or who did because I do not want to get mad more than I already am. Lets just go and get this done."

She slipped on the flats she had by the door already and deemed her sweater and leggings acceptable for an ass kicking. Faye pushed past Stefan, shutting the door to her home behind her.

__

It was easy to get into the Mikaelson for the exact reason that Klaus did not lock his doors. Her and Stefan stormed right in and found the ballroom where Damon was hanging by bear traps with his shirt torn open within seconds. Faye stared at him as he looked up at her, narrowing his eyes.

"This was much different in my head." Damon said in a weak voice, "Hey, Amnesia."

"Shut up."

"Klaus, I'm here!" Stefan shouted, looking around the room as he did, "Let's do this."

The doors to the ballroom slammed open. Both Klaus and Rebekah walked in together, their eyes immediately darting over Faye. She held her head tall, keeping her gaze locked with theirs. She wasn't one to cower at their disapproving gaze.

"Oh, good, a hero." Klaus said, looking at Stefan. His gaze shifted over towards the strawberry blonde who kept her eyes trained on him, "And his sidekick. Are you flip flopping sides again, love?"

"I was never on your side." Faye told him, baring her teeth slightly, "We had a common goal; keep the Originals alive long enough so you can get unlinked. You're unlinked, Elijah's alive, we no longer have a common goal." Klaus' eyes grew dark with anger and what looked like to Faye, disappointment, "Let Damon go, now."

"I thought you would very much enjoy this." Klaus gestured towards the vampire Faye had asked for the release of, "Seeing him strung up in a way that hurt him, like he hurt you. It's a surprise your even here, coming to his rescue."

"You're forgetting that when someone's pack, they're always pack no matter." Faye stated clearly to him, crossing her arms over her chest, "I am not going to leave a person that I care about and love in the hands of you two. Hand him over, Klaus."

"No."

Faye sighed and turned her head to Stefan who did the same. He took a step forward towards the two Mikaelsons.

"Let's make a deal then." He said.

"Stefan, what are you doing?" Damon questioned, only to be ignored.

Stefan dropped the bag of stakes on the ground. They spilled out and Klaus looked towards it with furrowed brows, "Eight stakes made of white oak. The part of Wickery Bridge that you forgot to burn."

Klaus looked towards Rebekah angrily and she sat with an expression of shock on her face.

"That's impossible." The Original vampire stated.

"Actually it's not." Stefan told her, "Finn's dead."

Rebekah gaped slightly at him, "You killed my brother?"

Stefan ignored her and looked back towards Klaus, "Damon in exchanged for the last eight weapons that can kill you."

"And how do I know there aren't any more left?" Klaus responded with a question. Faye looked towards Stefan, waiting for him to provide an answer. She didn't know if any were left, but she was sure there was. They wouldn't give up the only thing that could kill Klaus.

"Because there aren't."

"Let's be certain, shall we?" Klaus walked over to Damon and stopped beside his hanging figure. He leaned in a bit next to his ear "Leave." He ordered.

"No."

"Go on. Leave."

Rebekah stomped her foot when he spoke, canting her head to the side with a pout on her lips, "Nik, he's my plaything not yours."

Klaus grew impatient and grabbed Damon by the throat. He looked him into the eyes and compelled him, "I said, go home."

Faye watched with horror in her eyes as Damon began attempting to tear his hand away from the bear trap closed around his wrist. He yelled in pain as he did so. The skin on his wrist peeled away, causing Faye to cringe at the sight.

It went on for a while before Faye finally stepped up and said something, the anger becoming too much to handle. She looked towards Klaus and spoke, "What is the point of this? Stop!" Klaus didn't respond, only looking over at her with a sinister smile playing on his lips. She could feel her wolf side come out as her anger grew at the older hybrid before her, "Stop it, Klaus!"

He huffed and uncompelled Damon, "Alright, stop, stop, stop, before you hurt yourself." Damon let out a sigh in relief, "Well, seeing that he can finally be compelled. Now." Klaus moved back in front of Damon and grabbed him by the throat once again, "Minus the stake that's in my brother, how many more stakes are out there that can kill me?"

"Eleven."

Faye sighed at his answer, feeling the need to rub her temples. Her non-stressful day with Lacey, cleaning out the attic had turned into a hot mess. She needed a bubble bath and pizza.

"Eleven!" Klaus called out, his gaze turning towards Stefan, "Really? So, not eight then."

"You really shouldn't have lied." Rebekah added into the conversation.

"We'll get you the other three." Faye told Klaus with a small nod of her head.

"Yeah, that'll be nice." The blond hybrid's cocky tone made her want to tear out her throat with his teeth, but Faye kept herself under control, knowing he could kill all of them in moments if he wanted. She particularly wanted to see a diploma in her hand at graduation.

Klaus continued speaking, "Or since you lied, Stefan, maybe I'll just compel your brother to chew out his own tongue."

"What is wrong with you?" Stefan asked in outrage.

"What is wrong with you?!" Klaus asked in return, "Do you really have no appreciation for me? I have given you someone to hate, to loathe, a target for all of your anger; so you don't have to turn it on yourself. I have given your life purpose, as your friend." He laughed, "I really think you should be thanking me."

As Faye was controlling herself, it seemed Stefan wasn't. It was a quick movement when Stefan rushed forward and pinned Klaus against a wall. He raised a white oak stake in the air, prepared to kill him, but Klaus had a hold of his wrist, stopping him. Faye took a step forward, ready to do what she could to make sure Stefan and Damon both didn't end up dead.

"Step down, or you all die." Klaus warned Stefan. The youngest Salvatore loosened his grip on the stake. Klaus took it from him, "There. Now you only have to get me the other two."

"This is ridiculous." Rebekah said. Faye watched as she walked over to Damon and released him from his traps. She sped over, making sure to catch Damon before he hit the floor.

"What are you doing?" Klaus asked his sister.

"I brought him here. I get to release him. My rules now." She told her brother before looking over towards the three who seemed to always end up in the worst situations, "Bring us the stakes and you both live. Take your brother as a sign of good faith." She made her leave, picking up the duffel bag of stake on the way out the door.

"Bring us the stakes." Klaus said when she left, "All of them. Or I will wage a war against everyone you love. I hope I'm being clear." With that, he left the room, sending Faye a dirty look as he did so. She didn't mind it and focused on Damon.

"Come on, asshole. We need to get some blood in you."

__

She never really thought she would be there again, sitting in the parlor of the Salvatore boarding house with it's owners. Damon was getting back to normal after having taken a shower and drinking a few blood bags to regain his strength. Faye had stayed to make sure he was okay before she was going to head back home.

"You feel better?" Faye asked him, her eyes filled with genuine concern. Damon nodded, dropping the empty blood bag onto the coffee table. She sighed and stood up, seeing that as her cue to leave, "I guess I should get out of here. Lacey and Elijah will be home soon and I got some news to break to them." The two nodded and she turned on her heel, preparing to leave, but Stefan's voice stopped her.

"Faye." She turned to look at him, "Thank you."

Faye smiled slightly and shrugged, "You guys are my pack. I had to."

"No you didn't because we have been complete shit towards you." Damon stood up from his spot on the sofa, "We used you and took you for granted. We hurt you and despite it, you saved me from psycho barbie."

"Faye, we really are sorry." Stefan stood up next, looking at her as he spoke. She could hear his genuine tone, one full of emotion that she had missed dearly during his time with his emotions off, "We didn't ever want to do that to you. We were just so blinded by anger towards Klaus and when the opportunity came to take him out of our lives, we didn't think of all the consequences. In the end, we hurt the person we cared about most."

"We love you, ya know? You're basically a Salvatore." Damon smiled at her, "But it kind of sucks though because being a Salvatore does come with a bit of betrayal and angst. Though, starting now it follows with some apologies."

Faye pursed her lips, trying to stop herself from returning it because this was what she wanted. She wanted a sincere apology from her boys so she could at least try to forgive them.

"We're sorry."

"I accept your apology." Faye told them both.

"Does that mean you forgive us?" Stefan asked her.

"No." She responded, causing their faces to drop, "You used me, lied to me, tried to kill my godfather, and tried to half ass apologize for it. I'll have to think about forgiving you and even after that, I'll still be angry. You both gotta work hard."

"Only the best for you, right, Amnesia?" Damon quirked an eyebrow.

She grinned before turning on her heel, this time making it to the door, "Stay out of trouble." She called back before opening the door and stepping out into the cold night air with a smile on her face.

Even though she was still trudging through hell, things were looking up and that was all Faye needed to bring a smile to her face.

A/N: TWO UPDATES IN ONE WEEK! I actually really like this chapter honestly. Some of you might not because Klaye is drifting apart again (they will rejoin do not fret my dears) and that Faye is civil with the Salvatores now, but it's crucial to the story line. Faye was going to forgive them eventual and this is just a step towards it.

ALSO ONLY FOUR EPISODES LEFT IN THIS SEASON WHAT? THAT MEANS I GET TO WRITE SEASON FOUR SOON AND IT'S GON BE ALL ABOUT KLAYE AND FAYE GETTING WHAT SHE WANTS IN LIFE. I'll be doing another Q&A like I did after the first season of FTHOAW, but now I'll answer your questions about this one. You can either comment your questions down below or you can post them on the Q&A notice I will be posting tomorrow in this book.

Next chapter: Fayler reunion, my baby is growing up, and PSYCHO RIC

REMEMBER I NEED TEN COMMENTS THAT DON'T INCLUDE THE WORD "UPDATE" OR ANYTHING LIKE IT FOR ME TO DO EXACTLY THAT.
