THIRTEEN ▶ FAYE'S BETRAYL
Faye stood in front of the punching bag down in the basement of the Salvatore boarding house. Damon wanted her to build up her strength since they had been taken down by werewolves once again. She was also on the phone with Stefan. The phone was on one of the tables as she worked out.
"What's going on?" Stefan asked as he listened to the sounds of Faye hitting the bag.
"Damon has me working out so if I run in to anymore bad guys..." Faye jumped and kicked the bag, making it swing harshly. She dodged it so it wouldn't hit her, "I can take them down easily. But, it makes me relaxed."
"That makes one of us." Stefan replied, sighing.
Faye shrugged her shoulders, "We got some good news though. Tyler left home last night and it doesn't seem like he's coming back."
"How do you know?"
"Well, I heard it from Damon, who heard it from the Sheriff, who heard it from a very distraught Carol Lockwood, thus, ending our werewolf chapter, bringing us to..."
Stefan finished for her, "... killing Elijah."
"Exactly."
"Well, it's not going to be easy. He's crafty." Stefan told her.
Faye huffed as she positioned the bag so it held still, "Well, we have the dagger and the element of surprise. Me. He won't suspect a thing if I'm around."
"He's an Original. We don't know what all that encompasses." Stefan said worriedly.
"We've got a source that might tell us everything about the dagger. We don't want and surprises." Faye said, walking over to her water bottle to get a drink.
"Wow, is Damon actually going to be careful for once?" Stefan asked sarcastically.
"He's becoming you. How tragic." She sighed, hovering her finger over the end call button, "Got to go. I need to shower so me and Damon can plan a murder. Have a nice little vacay with Elena." She hung up the as Damon walked into the room, "Stefan's worried. He doesn't think we'll do good."
Damon shrugged, "We can handle it. After your shower, we're heading to the Grill to meet Alaric."
"Got it." She said before walking away, going upstairs.
__
Faye sat in the middle of Alaric and Damon at the bar while Andie sat besides Damon. She didn't like the fact that he brought his blood bag along. She annoyed her, especially when Andie tried to baby her because she didn't have parents.
"Other than your lecture on the history of Mystic Falls, did you get anything out of Elijah?"
Damon asked Alaric. He met Jenna and Alaric on the old property lines to get information.
Alaric sighed and shook his head, "No, it was boring. Of course, Jenna thinks he's charming."
"You sounded jealous." Damon said. He looked up at Andie, "Sound a bit jealous?"
She shrugged, "Kinda do."
"Maybe we shouldn't talk about this here." Alaric glanced at Andie warily.
"Andie, she's been compelled not to divulge my secrets. Haven't you?" Damon asked her.
Andie grinned, "Uh-huh." They both kissed and Faye balked, "Mmm. My lips are sealed."
Alaric looked at them with disgust, "This is too weird."
Faye reached over and stole his full glass of scotch, "Yep, well try living in the same house. You can hear everything." She knocked it all back.
"Hey!" Alaric called out, reaching for the now empty glass, "That was mine."
"Well, I need it more than you." Faye replied, sticking her tongue out at him, "So, Damon, how's our plan coming along?"
Damon sighed and looked at her, "We just need the right opportunity."
"Well, I'm going to need another glass of what Alaric was having to think up some awesome ideas." Faye turned and compelled the bartender, "Get me what the history teacher was having, no charge." The bartender obliged and poured her another glass. She smirked, taking a sip of it.
Damon turned his head to see Elijah and Jenna entering the girl, "Ah, there's Jenna with her new boyfriend." The pair walked up to the bar, "Hi."
"Hey guys." Jenna frowned when she saw Faye with the glass of scotch, "Are you drinking?"
"It's apple juice in a fancy glass." Faye said, covering her tracks. Jenna gave her a incredulous look, but brushed it off. The girl was eighteen, who cared if she was drinking or not.
"So I hear you two had quite a meeting of historical minds today." Damon said with a grin.
Jenna nodded, glancing up at Elijah for a moment, "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
"Well, as much as I'd like to continue this, I've got papers to grade." Alaric told them, placing some money on the table before getting up.
"Jealous..." Faye muttered in to her glass as she took a sip, causing Alaric to glare at her.
"No, you know what?" Andie said, stopping Alaric as he began to walk away, "We should continue this. Let's have a dinner party."
"Ooh, my girl. Full of good ideas. I'll be happy to host." Damon gazed at Elijah and Jenna, "Say tonight. Maybe?"
Andie smiled, "It's good for me. Jenna?"
Alaric sighed, "I don't know if tonight works..."
"Yeah, I'm free." Jenna said, cutting Alaric off.
"It'd be a pleasure." Elijah told Damon and Andie.
"Great." Damon looked at Faye, "Faye? How about you?"
"As long as there's food, I'm coming." Faye gave a huge fake smile, not wanting to be at a dinner party. Not that she minded Jenna, Alaric and Damon, she was pissed at Elijah and certainly didn't enjoy Andie's company.
__
While Damon began preparing for the dinner party, he had sent Faye on the mission to have a chat with everyone's favorite doppelganger vampire. She crouched down in front of Katherine and waved the open bottle of blood under her nose, trying to wake her up. When she didn't, Faye poured the blood in to her mouth. She began responding.
"Great, drink up." Faye grinned when Katherine reached up and took the bottle, "There you go, Kitty Kat." She stood up and walked over to where she had the duffle bag she brought, "I've come bearing gifts. I didn't have time to properly shop, but I did get a couple of things. Hmm?" Faye began laying out the clothes on the iron gate.
Katherine crushed the bottle in her hand, seeing that she now looked better. Faye glanced at her and smirked, "Wow, that blood did the trick. You're almost pretty again."
"What do you want, Faye?" Katherine asked her.
"Guess who's back in town?" Faye asked, "Creepy old Uncle John. I heard you cut off his fingers. Nasty."
"Really." Katherine cocked her head to the side, "Why?"
"Says he loves his daughter, wants to protect her from Elijah and the big bad vampire Klaus." Faye said, throwing the last of the clothes on to the gate.
Katherine rolled her eyes, "Touching." She pulled herself up from the ground.
"Yeah, sure." Faye replied, "But he also told Damon about this little fairytale where you can kill and Original."
"And you want to know if it's true. If it was, I wouldn't tell you." Katherine told her. She walked over and pulled on one of the jackets Faye had gotten for her.
Faye frowned, "Now, why not? I mean, you want Elijah and Klaus dead as much as Damon does."
"Klaus, yes. Elijah, no." Katherine responded, "He's compelled me to stay in here. If he dies, I'm stuck forever."
"Sounds like a you problem."
"Forget it, Faye. Killing Elijah would be a suicide mission. You can't do it." Katherine told her.
Faye walked over to her and smirked, "Can so."
"Can't."
"Not even with a dagger and some white oak ash?"
Katherine's eyes widened in fear, "No. Faye, if you kill Elijah, then I'm stuck in here forever."
"You really are scared." Faye declared as she narrowed her eyes at the vampire, "Such a pitiful sight."
"Just get me out of here first and then I'll help you. I'll..." Katherine gasped for air as she panicked, "I'll help you kill Elijah or..." She shrugged, "Or protect Elena. Whatever you want."
"Oh no. If we let you out of here, you pack up your shit and get the hell out of here to the Bahamas where you'll be sipping Klaus-free margaritas." Faye shook her head, telling her no.
"That's not true. I'll stay. Faye, please just don't let Damon kill him." Katherine pleaded.
Faye smiled sweetly as she went to grab her bag, "Well, thank you, you've told me everything I need to know."
"I've told you nothing." Katherine growled.
"You have. You have indeed confirmed that it is possible to kill an Original, which Damon will probably do tonight." Faye said, "Guess who's coming to dinner?"
__
Faye sat in the study with Alaric and Damon, chatting about what was going down tonight.
"This is a bad idea." Alaric said, pacing.
"There's no such thing as a bad idea. Just poorly executed awesome ones." Damon held up a glass of scotch to him, "Here."
"No." Alaric said, refusing it. Faye took it and chugged it down, needing it for the events that were going to take place tonight. Alaric sighed, "I don't like the idea of Elijah being in the same house with Jenna."
Faye placed her hand on his shoulder, "Jenna will be safe, okay? I'll jump in front of a bullet for her if I have to."
"Besides," Damon said, "it's just a fact-finding mission. It's totally harmless."
"Just a fact-finding mission?" Alaric asked, unsure that it was the truth.
"Yeah."
"Listen, no sneak attacks. No surprise plans. Nothing that's gonna put Jenna in harm's way." Alaric looked at Damon sternly, "Ok?"
"Scout's honor." Damon put his hand up and clasped it on to Alaric's shoulder. Alaric narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Damon, not believing a word he was saying. Andie then walked in.
"Hey, Jenna needs help with the wine." Andie told Alaric. Damon smiled at him, patting his arm before letting the hunter go help his girlfriend. Alaric began walking towards the dining room, "Thanks."
Once he was gone and had shut the door, Damon pulled out the dagger and the small vile of white oak ash. Faye stared at it in awe. It reminded her of something from Harry Potter.
"What is that?" Andie asked Damon.
"Dessert."
Faye walked over to get a closer look at the dagger, "How could a murderous weapon be so gorgeous?"
"You're the weirdest person I've ever know, Faye." Damon told her, "Elijah's stronger than me. Faster than me. It's all about the element of surprise."
Andie sighed, "Ah, it's too bad. I like him. He's very old-school. Classy."
"Which is why you should encourage the gentlemen to take their after dinner drinks in here while you do coffee in the kitchen with the girls." Damon instructed as he placed the dagger by the alcohol glasses, hiding it from view.
"Hmm. That is a little too sexist for me." Andie said.
Faye glared at the girl and compelled her, "Stop talking and go away."
Andie smiled before walking back into the dining room. Damon looked at her and rolled her eyes, "You seriously do not like her."
"She bothers me." Faye said, rubbing her arm, "Ditzy, overbearing woman."
Damon saw that she was tense, "You okay? With tonight I mean?"
"I'm fine, Damon." She snapped, "I'm just pissed that Elijah betrayed me just after I began to trust him. He shouldn't have lied about my pack being in danger."
"Elena's you're pack-?"
"You and Stefan love her so of course she is." Faye informed him, "Now, shall we go help with dinner?"
__
Faye was testing the food when she heard a knock on the door. She frowned, shoving the spoonful of sauce in her mouth, cleaning it, then throwing it in the dishwasher. She went to go open the door, coming face to face with John.
"What the hell are you doing here, creepy uncle?" Faye asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
Damon walked up behind Faye and glared at John, "John. Surprise. Leave."
"When Jenna told me she was coming to a dinner party for Elijah, I decided I couldn't miss out on all the fun and games." John told the pair with a smirk.
Alaric arrived and looked at John, "There are not going to be any games tonight, John. It's just a friendly dinner party."
Damon glanced at Alaric then back at John, "What he said."
__
Damon was the one to answer the door when Elijah arrived.
"Good evening." Elijah greeted.
Damon plastered a fake smile on his face, "Thank you for coming. Please, come in."
Elijah didn't move, "Just one moment. Can I just say that if you have less than honorable intentions about how this evening is going to proceed, I suggest you reconsider."
Damon shook his head, "No, nothing, nothing dishonorable. Just getting to know you."
"Hmm. Well, that's good." Elijah entered the house and turned to look at Damon, "Because, you know, although Elena and I have this deal, if you so much as make a move to cross me, I'll kill you and I'll kill everyone in this house sans Faye. Are we clear?"
"Crystal."
Elijah saw Jenna standing not to far away and smiled, walking over to her, "Jenna. Wonderful to see you again. How are you?"
"Nice to see you." Jenna replied.
"You look incredible." Elijah complimented.
Jenna blushed, "Thank you."
Damon shut the door and they all walked to the dining room. Everyone sat down. Faye was next Alaric and Damon, who sat at the head of the table. Across from her was Andie who sat next to Jenna, who sat next Elijah. Alaric lastly sat next to John.
Jenna reached over a poured Damon a glass of wine, "I hate to break it to you, Damon, but according to Elijah, your family is so not a founder of this town."
"Hmmm, do tell." Damon said, leaning in to listen.
"Well, as I mentioned to Jenna earlier, a faction of settlers migrated from Salem after the witch trials in the 1690s. Over the next hundred years they developed this community where they could feel safe from persecution." Elijah explained.
Jenna grinned, "Hmm. Because they were witches."
"Yeah, but there's no tangible proof there were witches in Salem." Andie said.
Damon smirked, "Andie's a journalist. Big on facts."
"Well, the lore says that there was this wave of anti-witch hysteria. It broke out in the neighboring settlement, so these witches were rounded up." Elijah told them, "They were tied to stakes in a field together and, uh, burned. Some say you could hear the screams from miles around us. They were consumed by the fire. Could you pass the..."
Faye passed the salt down to Elijah, her face pale as she thought of the burning witches. She knew most of them were innocent and she hated hearing about it.
"I wouldn't repeat this to the Historical Society." Jenna said, chuckling.
"It's starting to sound a little like a ghost story to me." John admitted.
Faye scowled, "Well, no one asked you John." They both began glaring at each other.
"So, why do you want to know the location of these alleged massacres?" Damon asked Elijah, ignoring the little argument between Faye and John.
"You know..." Elijah shrugged, "A healthy historian's curiosity, of course."
"Of course." Elijah glanced up at Damon and he smiled nervously.
__
Everyone began getting up and Damon looked over at Andie, giving her the cue, "The gentlemen should take their drinks in the study." Andie told them all.
"I have to say the food was almost as wonderful as the company." Elijah said.
Andie giggled, "I like you."
Jenna handed John a stack of plates, "Here you are, gentleman, make yourself useful. Hmm?"
John rolled his eyes and Faye snickered as she collected some of the plates. Alaric walked over to Jenna and held out his hands, "Here, here. Put me to work."
Jenna shook her head, "Um, I got it." She picked up the plates and began walking out of the room, but Alaric stopped her.
"Hey, Jenna, are you... are you okay?" He asked her.
"Yeah, fine, Ric." Jenna curtly replied, walking away. Alaric's face dropped and Faye put a hand on his shoulder as she balanced the plates in her other.
"Sorry, Ric." She said softly.
John walked up to them and sighed, "I suspect this is my fault."
Faye scowled at John and placed the plates aside, "What did you do creepy uncle?"
"I merely mentioned that Alaric hasn't been completely honest with her about his dead wife." John gloated.
"You son of a bitch." Alaric growled. He grabbed John by the collar. John grabbed Alaric's wrist and yanked him off of him.
"I think I've been very clear with you, Ric. I want my ring back." John said, beginning to walk out of the room.
Faye stopped him though, grabbing him and slamming him against the wall, holding his throat, "Listen here, John. I don't care what kind of problem you have right now with Alaric, but I swear to god if you threaten him again, you and I will have one." She threw to the ground and he scrambled to get up, going to the kitchen where he was needed.
Alaric sighed and looked at her, "Thanks, but you didn't need to do that."
She grinned, "Oh I know, I wanted to." Just as Faye said that, Alaric's phone began ringing. He quickly answered it hearing Stefan's panicked voice.
"Hello. Slow down. Slow down. Stefan?"
__
Damon and Elijah were in the library. Damon was pouring them both a drink.
"So, let me guess. In addition to the moonstone, the doppelgänger, the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, you need to find this witch burial ground." Damon said to Elijah.
"Because I feel as though we've grown so close, Damon, I'll tell you yes." Elijah responded, looking at Damon, "Do you know where it is?"
Damon shrugged, "Maybe. Tell me why it's so important." He handed Elijah the glass of scotch and he took it.
"We're not that close." Elijah said, turning around to face the wall of books, "It's quite a collection you have here."
"Hmm." Damon pulled out the dagger, ready to stab him and kill him.
"It's a funny thing about books. Before they existed, people actually had memories."
Damon slowly snuck up on him, but Faye, Andie and Alaric busting the door open stopped him.
"Gentlemen, we forgot about dessert." Faye said quickly.
Andie smiled and held out her hand, "Elijah."
"Miss Star..." Elijah handed Damon his glass back, who drained it all, and took Andie's hand. He twirled her around before leaving the room with her. Damon hit Faye and Alaric upside the head, seeing that they ruined his chance.
Faye pointed down to the dagger, doing her best to act out what would happen if Damon used it. Damon furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, not understanding. Alaric walked over to the desk and wrote down something on the notepad. He then shoved it in Damon's face.
Damon growled angrily when he read the paper, "The Dagger will kill you if you use it."
__
Jenna was pouring John a cup of coffee when Andie and Elijah walked into the room, "Sorry, guys, dessert is taking longer than I thought. I usually just unwrap food." She went back to the kitchen.
"So..." Andie began as she looked at Elijah, "I know this is a social thing, but I..." She smiled at him, "I would really love to ask you some more questions about the work that you're doing here."
"I'd love to answer." Elijah replied with a grin.
"Great, that's so great." Damon, Alaric and Faye entered the room. Faye and Damon sat back down at the table, glaring a John.
"Ric, would you do me a favor and grab the notebook out of my bag?" Andie asked Alaric and he did so. He walked over to her bag and began looking for it.
"Elijah, did John tell you he's Elena's uncle/father?" Damon asked him.
Elijah nodded, "Yes, I'm well aware of that."
"Of course, she hates him, so there's absolutely no need to keep him on the endangered species list." Damon said, looking back at him.
Andie groaned when she saw Alaric was being slow, "No Ric, it's in the front pocket. On the... you know what? Excuse me, guys. Sorry" She walked over where Alaric was and began helping him.
"What I'd like to know, Elijah, is how do you intend on killing Klaus?" John asked the Original.
"Gentlemen, there's a few things we should probably get clear right now. I allow you to live solely to keep an eye on Elena. I allow Elena to remain in her house living her life with her friends as she does as a courtesy." Elijah told John and Damon, "If you become a liability, I'll take her and Faye away from you and you'll never see either of them again."
"Excuse me?" Faye asked, standing up from her seat, "I never said-"
Andie interrupted her, sitting down in the seat across from Elijah, "Okay. My first question is when you got here to Mystic..."
Alaric suddenly came up and pierced Elijah through the heart with the dagger. Everyone jumped up, sans Faye who was standing, shocked. Elijah screamed, his skin becoming grey as he died. Alaric pulled out the dagger and placed it on the table. He then looked up at Damon.
"Now, get rid of him before Jenna comes back with dessert." Alaric ordered.
Damon nodded, "All right."
__
Alaric, Damon and Faye managed to get Elijah's body down to the cellar in the basement.
"You said there wasn't going to be any violence." Alaric growled at Damon.
Faye scoffed, "Says the guy that did all the killing." Her and Damon began walking away, but Alaric grabbed their arms.
"Hey, I took the shot because I saw an opening, not because I planned to do this with Jenna in the house. Now, you can't lie to me like that." Damon and Faye tried to walk away, but he tightened his grip, "Hey, I am your friend, damn it. So, no more lying."
Faye yanked her arm from his grip and sighed, "Sorry, Ric. No more lying." She began walking back up the stairs, going in to the library to grab her book and read.
__
Faye was reading when Stefan called her, "Hey, Stefan. What's up?"
"Is the dagger still in Elijah?" Stefan asked worriedly.
"No, why would it be?" Faye questioned, shutting her book any laying it on the desk beside her, "Stefan?"
"As long as the dagger's in Elijah, he's dead." Stefan said. Faye jumped up and used her vampire speed to rush downstairs, finding Elijah's body gone.
"Stefan, he's going to come after Elena. Keep her inside, don't let her invite him at any cost. Damon and I are coming." Faye said quickly, rushing up the stairs once again to find Damon, "Okay?"
"Got it."
__
Elijah arrived at the lake house, glaring at it. He kneeled down to grab some of the rocks, tossing them from hand to hand. Inside, Stefan heard him and Elena began walking towards the door. Stefan pulled her back and shook his head.
"He's here."
Elijah threw the rocks, knocking the door straight off its hinges. Elena looked up at Stefan, "You have to go. I need to talk to him alone."
"Elena..." Stefan said.
"Stefan, I'm okay. He can't come in the house."
Elijah began walking up on to the front porch, "You know, I might not be able to enter this house..." He walked up to the door frame and placed his hands on the frame, "But I'm a very patient man. I'll wait you out."
Elena walked out from behind the wall slowly as Stefan stayed hidden behind the wall. She walked towards the door, staying inside, "They shouldn't have done what they did."
"The deal is off." Elijah growled.
"I'm renegotiating."
"You have nothing left to negotiate with." He told her.
There was a moment of silence before Elena pulled out a knife. Elijah looked amused.
"I'd like to see you lure Klaus into Mystic Falls after the doppelgänger bleeds to death." Elena told him.
Elijah shook his head, "Stefan won't let you die."
"No, he won't. He'll feed me his blood to heal me, and then I'll kill myself and become a vampire, just like Katherine did." Elena threatened, "So unless you want that to happen again, promise me the same as before..." She breathed, "Promise me... You won't harm anyone that I love. Even if they've harmed you."
"I'm sorry, Elena. I'm going to have to call your bluff." Elijah said.
Elena held the knife above her stomach and inhaled deeply. Elijah watched, unsure of what she was about to do. Elena then drove the knife in to her stomach, screaming out in pain as she did. Blood began rushing out of the wound as she collapsed to the ground. Elijah rushed forward, unable to enter the house. Elena dropped the knife to the floor and clutched her wound.
"No!" Elijah called out, "Yes. Yes, you can have your deal. Let me heal you."
"Give me your word!"
"I give you my word."
Elena got up and limped forward into Elijah's arms. She collapsed into them, driving the dagger into his heart as she did. He gasped out, falling to the ground, dead. Faye rushed out from her hiding spot and bit in to her wrist. She shoved it in to the doppelganger's mouth.
"Drink it, Elena." Faye instructed and Elena did as she was told. Faye pulled her wrist away when Elena's wound healed.
Stefan came out and hugged Elena, worried about her. Damon then came out from his own spot, looking down at Elijah's body, "Little tip. Don't pull the dagger out."
__
Damon looked through the pockets of Elijah's jacket, searching for anything they might need, "Uhh! What do we have here?" He pulled out the moonstone and grinned, "A little moonstone bar of soap. I'll hold on to this."
"So, that's it. I mean, as long as we keep the dagger in there, then he stays dead." Elena said, looking at where she had stuck the dagger in Elijah.
"Pretty much." Faye breathed out, looking at her dead god-father.
"Okay, then..." Elena sighed, "Good night." She then turned back around, causing Damon, Faye and Stefan to look at her, "You know, you guys want me to fight, fine, I'll fight. But if we're gonna do this, you can't keep anything from me anymore. From this moment on, we're doing it my way."
Damon nodded, "That seems fair."
"I'm fine with that." Faye replied.
"Okay." Stefan said.
"Okay." Elena then walked out of the basement, leaving the trio of two vampires and a hybrid alone.
Damon and Stefan looked at each other, "Seems like she's had a change of attitude. How did you get through to her?"
"I told her a little story about when I was making the wrong decisions and somebody showed me there was a better way." Stefan answered.
"Lexi?" Faye asked, recalling the story Stefan had told her about his blonde vampire friend.
"Yeah." Stefan looked at Damon, "Remember her?" He then walked out.
"Hey, Damon." Faye said when Stefan was gone, "Do you think I could get a moment with Elijah?"
"As long as you don't undagger him, yeah." Damon said, "I'm going upstairs for bed." He left her alone with Elijah.
Faye sat down against the wall, wrapping her arms around her knees. She looked at the dagger that Elijah had stuck in his chest with remorse, "I'm sorry that it had to come to this, Elijah. I really thought I could trust you, but in the end, you lied. It really hurt to know that you would lie to me that quickly. And my wolf's top priority right now is to protect pack and Elena is pack. You stood in the way of her surviving and I had no option, but to take you out," Faye sighed and reached over to kiss his forehead, "I hope that you can forgive me when you wake up again."
She got up and ran her hand through her hair. Faye then walked out of the cellar, not knowing that Elijah had heard what she had said.
__
A/N: Faye feels remorse. Faye honestly does feel bad for what she had to do to Elijah, but she had to save Elena. You guys may not like it, but deal with it.
