FORTY TWO ▶ THE WICKED DAY

With the desiccation of Klaus having happened, Faye didn't know how to feel.  She should feel finally at peace. What seemingly was her life goal had been completed; rid the world of the man with name Klaus Mikaelson. She had been trying for months to kill him or at least run him out of town and finally, it had been done. It was all over, but that wasn't how it was going.

Her heart ached at the thought of Klaus being gone. She didn't understand it at all. He had done a few nice things for her, ones that could barely erase the evils he had brought down upon her and her pack. It may have been because of the anger and sadness hiding in Elijah's eyes when she revealed the news to him. He left the Daniels home in the middle of the night, causing Faye to feel immediate guilt like she had made the decision to desiccate Klaus herself.

Faye sat on the couch in her living room in silence with sitting next to Lacey. The blonde vampire was tapping her foot due to anxiety over the sudden disappearance of the love of her eternal life. She would have ran after him, but she couldn't leave Faye alone with Alaric on the loose. She had to protect her from anything that could harm her.

"I can't help but feel like this is my fault." Faye muttered to herself more than her aunt.

Lacey looked towards her niece, her eyebrows furrowed together, "Why do you think that?"

"I wanted Klaus gone for so long and I didn't even realize how much it would hurt Elijah." She responded to Lacey's question, "I'm just as bad as Stefan and Damon when they were going to kill Elijah and not care what would happen to me." Faye added on.

"Faye, it's not your fault." Lacey attempted to assure her, "You didn't make the choice to do that to Klaus, Damon and Stefan did. You were at here, healing while it had gone down." Then, she frowned, realizing that there was much more to Faye's guilt that she let on, "It's not just because of Elijah, isn't it? It's because of Klaus himself."

The strawberry blonde's eyes quickly flickered away from her aunt, her lips parting, not knowing how to respond. It was an awkward conversation for her because she didn't quite understand it herself. A part of her also felt ashamed to even feel sorry for the man who had caused so much pain and sorrow for the supernatural residence of Mystic Falls. If her pack had heard, they would immediately lash out at her for thinking anything good she has ever thought about him.

"What made you feel that way?" The older Daniels questioned.

Faye shrugged, "I don't know." She began, deciding that if any would judge her for this, it wouldn't be Lacey. She would understand, "I mean, I still think he's a horrible person. He ruined so many of our lives and I just couldn't wait to rid him from our lives because he made them hell." The hybrid inhaled deeply, "But then he goes and does these things like come to save my life and it makes me think, maybe, just maybe, there is something in him that is redeemable."

Lacey went to reply, but the loud ring of Faye's phone echoed throughout the room. The hybrid felt relieved to have a reason to jump out of the spotlight placed on her. She pulled the phone from her jean pocket and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hey, can you do me a favor?" Stefan's voice seeped through the speaker of her phone.

"Of course." She told him, "What is it?"

"We need you to go help check out Elena from the hospital. Jeremy put her in there after she passed out due to blood loss, I'm guessing." The younger Salvatore revealed to her.

Faye's eyebrows furrowed together, "Why the hell didn't you call me until now?"

"You had a rough day today and needed the rest." He responded, his tone filled with concern, "Are you alright now?"

"I'm fine." The lie she told more than anyone came out. She was slowly getting over what Alaric had done to her, but now she had more weight piling down on her shoulders. It didn't matter though, they had bigger problems. She changed the subject back to the original, "Why do I need to get her out?"

"She needs protection." Stefan answered her question, "Alaric could come after her and the hospital has no choice to release her to him because he's her guardian. Or even one of the Originals might go and grab her, we don't know. We just need someone that me and Damon both trust fully to get her home safe and protect her."

"Of course I can go and do that." Faye said, earning a relieved sigh from Stefan, "I'll get a new Save Elena Squad together and we can all fight anyone to the death who comes near her."

"You always have to be a bit sarcastic about everything, don't you?"

"It's in my blood. Talk to you soon, Stef." Faye hung up the phone after he responded with his own goodbye. She looked towards Lacey with an apologetic look, knowing she would have to leave the woman alone with her anxiety.

"Go." The blonde vampire told her, "I'll be fine. Though as soon as you get back, we're continuing our talk."

Faye let out a soft sigh, not wanting to do so, but she nodded at the stern look her aunt presented to her, "Fine. We'll finish our talk later."

__

Faye had easily gotten the dream team (her, Tyler, Caroline and Matt) all together to go get Elena from the hospital and protect her from whatever could happen on the way there or at the home. They were all being extra careful with her, making sure she would be alright.

The minute they had gotten there, Caroline had made sure Elena was laying down to get some rest before leaving with Tyler, having both gotten a call from their moms. Faye and Matt both stayed behind to watch over and Stefan was added to the Elena watch club after he arrived at the home.

Her, Stefan and Matt had been in the middle of making dinner when her phone rang for the second time that night Tyler's face popped up on the screen. Faye excused herself before going into the hall to speak to her boyfriend.

"Hey. What's going on?" Faye asked him the second she answered the call.

"We need to get the hell out of town, now." Tyler told her, causing her to grow a worried expression on her face.

"What? Tyler?" Faye questioned, "What happened?"

"Caroline's mom and mine said Alaric outed us all to the council. They're going to come after us." Tyler revealed to her. Faye's eyes went wide. It was always one problem after another in this town, "Our mom's want us to leave town. They got everything ready for us, but I don't want to go without you."

Faye let out a sigh at his words, "Tyler..." She began, "We can't just leave. I can't just leave."

"Yes, we can." He responded.

"My pack needs me." The strawberry blonde told him, "Our friends need us."

"But our families need us to stay alive." His voice slightly quivered, "Faye, if we stay we'll die."

"Then go, Tyler. Leave." Faye said. She wasn't going to hold him back from saving his life, " "You and Caroline will stay alive. I can't abandon my friends alone when so much is going on. I'm not going to leave them behind to die."

"Faye..." His tone was pleading, "Stefan and Damon are gonna do whatever it takes to protect themselves, but this is our lives. So let me protect you."

"I can't just run away from everything." She inhaled deeply, feeling tears form in her eyes. It felt like she was breaking up with him, even though she really wasn't, "I love you, Tyler and I would do anything for you, but this the one thing I can't." Her heart was shattering into pieces as she spoke, because this was her, letting him go, "You're going to have to go without me."

"Caroline and I are leaving in two hours." Tyler told her, his voice strained. She could tell he was upset by her answer, "We're meeting at the Lockwood cellar. Come there if you change your mind."

"Goodbye, Tyler." Faye replied before hanging up the phone.

A strong ache went through her heart as she slid her phone back into her back pocket. Choosing between two of the most important things in her life was one of the hardest things she had ever done in the two years of being in her human form once again.

On one hand was Tyler Lockwood; her first crush; her first kiss; her first boyfriend; her first love. She would love to follow him to ends of the Earth and never go a day without him, but it wasn't possible due to what was on the other hand; her pack. The family she had gained after losing one she couldn't remember. The people who accepted her without problem and loved her despite horrible things she had done in the past. In the end, she had to make a choice and it was always pack.

A burning sensation coursed through her veins as the feeling of loss dissipated. Faye felt herself straighten as a few stray tears fell from her eyes.

Tyler would leave and she knew it would crush her as it had before, but she didn't need that now.  She didn't need the grief that seemed to pile up as if someone had died. So, she pushed it aside. All that mattered now was that Tyler would be okay - he would be alive and well. She would stay and protect her home, her family. Her tears would dry and she would move because everything wasn't lost just yet.

Elena was alive and breathing and for now, Caroline and Tyler were alive too. For now, everyone was safe and alive. As an alpha, as some who loved and cared for her friends, Faye would make sure it would all stay that way.

Faye adjusted herself so it would seem like everything was alright. She couldn't add more stress to what Elena or Matt already had of it. She knew Stefan had heard everything though

"I'm being over coddled." Elena whined from the couch which she was forced to stay on, "I feel completely fine."

"You're on house arrest." Stefan told her, "You're supposed to be coddled."

"Wouldn't it be smarter if we just got you the hell out of town?" Matt finally said out loud what he had been thinking the whole time. The mention of leaving town made Faye's clench her fist slightly together.

"And do what? Go on the run for the rest of my life?" Elena asked him in response, "No thank you." She then got up from the couch, tossing the blanket she had on her off, "And I'm not an invalid. I'm done with the couch."

The doppelganger exited the room, the three left in the room watching her. Faye walked up to Stefan and Matt, sighing. She could see Matt didn't like her response at all.

"So, you're just gonna let her call the shots?" Matt asked Stefan.

"Letting her make her own decisions." Was Stefan's response.

"Even if they're wrong?"

"They're nothing wrong with freewill, Matt." Faye interjected, making herself known in the conversation, "You'll realize that when you lose it." Much like she had when Klaus had control over her actions, hanging Damon's death above her head to get her to kill.

Matt stared at her for a long moment, processing her words. He opened his mouth to reply, but Elena's voice cut him off.

"Stefan." She said his name first, "Faye."

The two called looked at eachother in confusion before they walked to where Elena. She stood in the front foyer off her home, looking at the two figures standing in her doorway. Elijah stood front and center in a crisp suit while Lacey stood behind him, her eyes on Faye. The said girl raised her eyebrows in confusion.

"Elijah." She addressed her godfather.

"Hello, Faye."

__

The four who had already been in the Gilbert house along with the two new arrivals sat around the dining room table. Elena had willingly invited Lacey in, knowing she wasn't their to do anything to harm her. She was only there to support Elijah.

The reason the eldest living Original had come was to make a deal. He wanted Klaus' body in his possession. Stefan, Elena, and Matt were all skeptical of it, but Faye believed him fully and trusted him. He was her family after all.

"All we need is to take that stake away from him."  Elijah explained to them, "Once it's been disarmed, the weapon's in my possession, my family will scatter to the ends of the Earth and Alaric will follow us."

Tyler leaving was just the beginning of everyone she loved darting out of town to save their lives it seemed like. The thought of Elijah leaving made her mood drop to an all time low. He was her godfather; one of the last people in her family. To see him go would hurt terribly. His presence in her home had become one she was used to and would hate to go without.

Though, he would at least be safe and alive. Truthfully, that was all that mattered.

"And you'll just run?" Stefan asked as he sat down next to Elena.

"We've done it before." Elijah said, "Klaus and Rebekah spent the better part of a thousand years evading my father. What's another half century while Elena is able to live out the rest of her natural life?"

Faye eye's darted up to her aunt who stood next to her, "Would you go with them?"

"Not this time, sweetie. Someone's got to keep you under control." Lacey smiled at her and kissed the top of her head.  Faye returned the smile, glad to hear that she wasn't losing everyone.

The sweet moment was broken by Elena who kept a solemn expression on her face as she looked at the Original sitting across from her, "We've finally stopped him, Elijah. After everything that he's done to us, I can't just let you bring him back."

"I give you my word, Elena." Elijah promised her, "I will not revive Klaus within yours nor even within your children's lifetimes. Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners."

Matt spoke up, "Why should she trust you? All you've done is screw her over." Faye sent a glare in the blond's direction for him to talk lowly of one of her favorite people.

Elijah looked down for a moment before speaking again, "And for that, I am deeply ashamed. But know this, she could have been dead the instant I walked through that door tonight, so Elena, I leave it to you to make the decision whether to trust me or not."

Elena looked pensive and silence ran throughout the room until a shout came through Faye's phone which was on speaker.

"Not!" Damon yelled out, "Hello? Did that concussion give you brain damage?! His lunatic siblings will kill you the first chance they get!"

Faye had to agree with him on that one. She looked towards Elijah for his response.

"Rebekah and Kol will honor the terms. If you return Klaus' body to us, Elena will come to no harm." He assured them. His eyes moved over towards Stefan, "Do we have a deal?"

"No! No, no, no, no! Did I mention no?" Damon shouted through the speaker once again.

Stefan let out a sigh and looked towards the doppelganger sitting at the table, "Elena, it's up to you."

"Oh, come on!"

"Why do you want Klaus' body?" Elena asked Elijah.

"He's my brother. We remain together."

Elena exhaled heavily before giving an answer, "We have a deal."

__

A plan was devised between everyone on how to handle Alaric and get Klaus to the remainder of Originals without a problem. Jeremy sent the newly turned vampire hunter on a wild goose chase to find Klaus' body. Where he had said it to be buried, Elijah, Lacey and Caroline would be waiting there to attack him and take the stake.

Faye wouldn't be with them like she would be, but would instead be going with Rebekah. Elijah had asked her to join, trusting her to go along and not deceive them. She stood next to her SUV she and Rebekah would be driving in, saying goodbye to her aunt and godfather.

"So, are you gonna leave right after you get Klaus' body or are you gonna' come say goodbye?" Faye asked Elijah, leaning against the driver's side door.

"I wouldn't dare leave without saying goodbye to one of my favorite people, sweetheart." Elijah said, running his hand along her hair. She gave him a shy smile.

"You be safe okay?" Lacey added when Elijah removed his hand from Faye's head.

"I'll be fine." Faye assured her, "And I'm not the one stepping into a dangerous situation. You two are, so both of you, please don't die. I've been to one funeral and honestly that's enough for me."

Elijah let out a short laugh before pressing a kiss to the top of the strawberry blonde's head, "We'll come back in one piece, I'm sure."

Their moment was destroyed by the blonde Original who was tapping their foot behind them, her eyes rolling, "I really adore this family moment, but honestly, can we leave now. I would like to go get my brother."

Faye scoffed at her words, "Fine, we'll go." She looked towards the remainder of the Daniels family and sent them a reassuring smile, telling them everything would go smoothly, "I'll see you later if it goes alright."

She hoped to god it all would or just like that, her life could go to hell.

__

It didn't take very long for Rebekah and Faye to arrive at the storage unit where Damon had stored Klaus body. They had to take an elevator down to the level Damon, so the stood inside, going over what to do.

"We find Damon and we grab Klaus." Faye said simply, "Then we get him to wherever you want him to be. We need to be quick about it too."

"I know what to do, Faye. I'm not dumb." Rebekah responded.

Faye shrugged, "Sometimes you seem like it." An annoyed glance was sent her way from the blonde Original, only causing the hybrid to smirk. There was silence that echoed throughout the elevator after that, but it was broken by Rebekah.

"You know, when I leave, you might be one of the few people I miss the most in the horrible little town." Rebekah informed her. Faye furrowed her eyebrows together in confusion, canting her head to the side at the blonde, "You're one of the few bearable ones and we did work well together that one time. You were a nice partner in crime."

"Awh, Rebekah." Faye placed a hand over her heart, "I might actually miss you too."

"Quit it with the sarcasm." She replied, rolling her eyes at the Daniels girl.

There conversation was ended by the elevator coming to a stop and opening on their needed level, a loud ding echoing throughout the unit. The two stepped out, their heels clanking against the floor.

"Damon!" Rebekah called out his name first, looking around as they continued walking out a little further, "Damon, where are you?"

There was no answer, causing Faye to begin to worry. Damon would have heard them the minute they both walked inside of the unit with his enhanced hearing. It wouldn't take him any time at all either to get to them.

Faye stopped as Rebekah continued walking and focused closely. She could hear two pairs of footsteps that weren't Rebekah's. One had to be Damon's, the other she did not know. The hybrid then pointed her nose towards the air and took in a deep breath. She caught Damon's scent along with another that made her freeze up on spot.

Alaric Saltzman scent surrounded her. Her eyes darted over to one of the unit doors where the smell of bourbon and death radiated from and saw a broken lock. He had been there, he had broken that. Terror ran through her veins as she stared at it.

He was in the storage unit, not in the field where he was supposed to be being taken down by Elijah, Lacey and Caroline. Alaric had found where Klaus was located and she didn't know how. Now all he had to do was narrow it down to find the coffin and drive the white oak stake he possessed through Klaus' heart, resulting in the death of most of her pack.

Rebekah hadn't noticed Faye had stopped and her breath had been caught in her throat. She continued walking down the storage unit and yelled out again, "Damon, this isn't funny."

When she reached the end of the hall, a pair of hands reached out and yanked her behind one of the units, covering her mouth as they did so. Faye panicked and rushed forward, ready to kill whoever had done so. Her fangs were bared out at who she thought was Alaric, but were put away when she recognized the crystal blue eyes and raven hair that belonged to the captive.

"Rebekah. Shhhh." Damon ordered her in a whisper, "We need to go." There was a hidden meaning behind his words and Faye knew exactly what they meant. They need to go grab Klaus and get him the hell out of there.

Faye nodded, agreeing. There eyes all connected before Damon released Rebekah. He waved his for them to follow them before speeding quickly down the hall to where Klaus was held. Both of the girls followed without hesitation, their goal to get Klaus' body as far away from Alaric as possible.

The minute they were there they opened the unit quietly and began wheeling Klaus' coffin out of the storage unit and to Faye's car. They were going at an inhuman speed, hoping to outrun Alaric if had found where they were.

When they had gotten out to the parking garage where the car was parked, they pulled the cart up next to the trunk. The three went to move it to inside the trunk, but Alaric appeared out of nowhere. He grabbed Rebekah by hair and slammed her head against the car window easily. She fell to the ground in pain.

Faye fangs elongated from her gums along her with her claws. She rushed at Alaric, Damon followed her actions right after. The Original vampire hunter kicked them both away, tossing them across the gravel. The hybrid skidded away, jumping up onto her feet to defend Klaus' body as quickly as she could.

Though, it didn't matter. She was too late. Alaric stood above the coffin, having opened it as Faye and the male vampire skidded across the ground away from him. The white oak stake was raised in the air above Klaus' body, causing Rebekah to jump and scream.

"No!"

"No, don't!" Faye screeched at him right after Rebekah, jumping forward to stop it.

Rebekah kept protesting before Alaric finally finished the deed. He drove the white oak stake through Klaus' heart. The male hybrid's gasp rang through the garage the second it broke skin. Rebekah tried to run forward, but Damon grabbed her by the waist, holding her back. Faye stood still in shock as she watched Klaus' body erupt into flames.

Time felt frozen. She kept her eyes on the coffin now up in flames. Klaus was gone. Not like he had been before; he could've returned if he was still desiccated. This time he was dead unable to return to the living unless a witch was willing to bring him back to life.

She thought hearing that Tyler leaving had broke her heart, but this, this was worse. Her heart felt like it had been torn from her body and stepped on by Alaric himself. This time she couldn't push across the grief that had arose inside her. This time she had to face it because someone had died and soon, so will a lot more people.

There was no one to choose between anymore, the white oak stake driven through the Original hybrid's heart had caused that. Tyler, her first love, would soon join Klaus on the other side along with her family, her pack, due to being apart of his bloodline. She had failed on keeping them alive, she had failed on being an alpha who cared for pack mates and her friends.

Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of losing everyone she had ever loved. Caroline, Damon, Lacey, Stefan and Tyler would all be gone by the end of the night and Klaus- she didn't know how to describe how she felt about Klaus himself being gone except she knew it hurt.

She was brought back to reality when the coffin was slammed shut by Alaric and he looked up at the two girls weeping, "Which one of you is next?" He growled out.

Faye's eyes widened and she backed away from him. Damon looked towards her and pushed Rebekah into her arms.

"Both of you, run." Damon told them. Faye was prepared to dart off Rebekah, wanting to save the one person she could. Rebekah hesitated though, staring at the coffin her now dead brother was in, "Run!" The eldest Salvatore repeated.

Rebekah finally ran with Faye, holding on to the strawberry blonde's arm to keep with her. As the two girls sped away from the man who could kill them both, tear blinded both of the girl's vision who had just watched their world crumble to pieces.

__

Rebekah and Faye ran all the way back to where they knew Lacey and Elijah had been. It took nearly an hour, but they had made it. Caroline wasn't there with them, most likely going to say goodbye to everyone else.

Elijah and Lacey stepped up to them, their eyes filled with tears much like Faye's. Rebekah was the first one to say anything to either of them.

"He's gone, Elijah." Rebekah choked out, "There was nothing I could do to stop it."

Elijah nodded, understanding. He walked towards his younger sister and the two siblings embraced, weeping over the loss of their brother who both of them loved dearly.

Lacey walked forward towards Faye and placed her hand on the strawberry blonde's cheek, "I'm so sorry sweetie." She said as if someone had already passed, causing Faye to panic even more.

"What happened, Lacey?" She questioned.

"Tyler's dead."

The words sent a wave of sickness throughout her body. Her stomach twisted in knots and she shook her head in disbelief.

"No." Faye said in a stern tone, "He isn't dead."

Lacey nodded, telling her he was silently once again, "I'm so sorry."

A heavy sob racked through her petite body, the news finally sinking in. Tyler Lockwood was dead. Her boyfriend was dead and she hadn't got to see him one last time before he had gone. She hadn't had one last kiss and the last words she had spoken to him hadn't been enough. Faye collapsed in her aunt's arm as she cried, her tears soaking the blonde's shirt. Her first love was dead and she couldn't do anything about it.

"It doesn't make sense." Rebekah spoke up suddenly, causing Faye to raise her head, "How is Lacina still living if Nik is dead? He turned her."

"The others also survived." Elijah added, frowning deeply, "I thought you said Niklaus turned their bloodline."

"I thought he did."

"I wasn't me, it wasn't Kol."

Rebekah shook her head, "It wasn't me, Elijah. It was Niklaus, I'm sure of it."

"Then how are they still alive?" Faye asked through her sniffles, "Why is only Tyler dead? Why just him?"

It was a question the didn't have the answer to just yet.

__

Lacey took Faye home, deciding she needed rest and didn't need to go searching for answers on why everyone else wasn't dead. Elijah had stayed behind with his sister for a reason unknown to Faye.

The sat together on the couch the way they had at the beginning of the night. Lacey's arm had been wrapped around her shoulder to comfort her while she had been crying. Faye's tears had finally dried up after at least an hour of sobbing over the loss of Tyler and somewhat, Klaus. Her head rested on her aunts shoulder as she cuddled into her.

"If anything happens tonight, I want you to know something." Lacey began. Faye looked up at her and shook her head. She didn't want to think of losing Lacey, her family, when she had already lost her first love, "It's just incase, okay? I don't want to go without saying goodbye to the most important person to me in the world."

"I'm so proud of you." The blonde Daniels told her niece who stared up at her with a bright emerald colored eyes she had gained from her brother, "You grew up from a small girl who liked Power Rangers and hated when something didn't go her way into this beautiful young woman who is strong and brilliant. I loved you from the moment I found out about you and I will do the same until our eternity together runs out."

"I love you too, Lacey." Faye replied, a few tears leaking from her eyes. She wrapped her arms around her aunt's shoulders and squeezed her tightly, "I hope I don't ever have to live my life without you."

"I will never leave you if I can help it." Lacey told the hybrid, "We're going to stay together and get through the worst of the worst if it comes our way."

And they would. The would get through everything together and survive in hopes of a better life.
