FORTY ▶ THE ROARING TWENTIES
"So killing Klaus bad?"
Faye stared at Damon with an annoyed look on her face. She stood in the parlor room of the boarding house where Damon was lounging on the couch. After learning the news of Lacey definitely being Klaus' bloodline, she had to make sure to tell the Salvatores to shut down any plan they had to kill Klaus. Faye decided to give the message before she went to help set up the dance with Caroline and Elena.
"Yes, Damon." She said through her teeth, "Stop treating this like a joke. If you kill Klaus you also kill my aunt, my boyfriend, and possibly the entire vampire population in Mystic Falls."
"Stop getting mean." Damon told her, tossing a pillow in her direction. She caught it and glared at him, "Ugh, fine. I promise we won't touch Klaus in any way that will bring his inevitable death."
"Good." The hybrid responded before moving over to plop down on the couch next to them, "How was yesterday? Find out anything?"
"Nothing except Kol Mikaelson is a prick." The raven haired vampire answered, "Killed our lead to finding out who is our Original. But something good did come out of that day."
Faye canted her head to the side, telling him silently to go on since she was now interested.
"I made out with Elena."
Faye choked on air, her eyes bulging from her head. When she calmed down she looked over at Damon and asked him in almost a whisper, "You made out with Elena?" Damon nodded with a proud grin on his face, "You slut!"
"I'm a slut?" He asked with mock hurt, "Faye, I hear you're doing two guys now. Klaus and Tyler? Tsk tsk."
Faye took the pillow she had and slammed it into his face, causing Damon to let out a laugh. She rolled her eyes at him before turning back to the main subject of their chat.
"What about this kiss? Like how did it happen?" Faye began to question him.
"I don't know. She just kissed me and then suddenly we were making out against the ice machine." Damon explained to her, "Then Jeremy interrupted and we stopped. It wasn't anything though. Elena was just using it to figure out if she had feelings for me or not. The whole trip was used for that."
His bitter tone made Faye sigh, "Let me guess, you fought about it?"
"Of course." He replied, "She was waiting for me to screw things up so she could hate me, but this time I'm going to make her figure it out herself."
"Proud to hear it, Damon. No more being used by doppelgangers for you." She clapped his shoulder with a tiny smirk on her face, "So, she's going to figure out an answer and I guess chose a Salvatore?"
"That is what I'm guessing."
Faye place her hand on his knee with a soft smile on her face, "Well, whoever she chooses I will support you either way. Same for Stefan. You two aren't going to fall apart because of some girl on my watch."
"Has anyone told you that you're the best person in the world?" Damon quirked his eyebrow at her.
Faye flipped her hair off her shoulder with a smug expression on her face, "A couple of times." Damon chuckled at her before she spoke again, "You know what, where's Ric? I thought he would be here drinking with you, talking about how his life has gone down hill."
"He left town to go on a spirit quest." Damon said, obviously in disbelief by it.
"But that is the worst thing to do. What if he blacks out and kills someone in a different place? We won't be there to stop him or cover it up." The panic began rising in Faye as she spoke of Alaric, "This is not good."
"Do not get all freaky pack mom on me right now." Damon scolded her, "You do not need to worry about Ric. You need to worry about going to this stupid dance and being all adorable like you usually are. Maybe dance with a hot like you did at the last decade dance."
Faye caught the wink he sent her. She sighed, "Damon, I don't need to go to a dance if there's a problem. I'll stay and help."
"Faye, no. There is no need. You need to go have fun and pretend to be human because that's all you've been wanting to do." He said, "You've earned it."
Damon then stood up, taking her along with him. He grabbed her bag and forced it into her hands. It wasn't long before he was pushing her towards the door. He opened the door and forced her out onto the porch.
"Go do normal Faye things. Stop worrying." Damon told her once she stood outside the home, "I'll handle it."
"But Damon-"
"Goodbye!"
The door was slammed in her face. Faye huffed loudly and began banging her fist on the door, "Damon!" She called out, getting no response. When she attempted to open the door herself, she noticed for once Damon has locked it.
It wasn't long before she gave up, deciding there was no use to fight against stubborn Damon's wishes. She went on her way to decorate for the dance, hating that for once her help wasn't wanted.

With her hair pulled high into a ponytail, Faye walked with Elena and Caroline in the school gym. It was odd to be in there again, having avoided the place since the night she came back to Mystic Falls with Klaus. Her mind replayed watching Tyler getting his neck snapped by the one thousand year old hybrid. She luckily finished the year of gym she needed the year before so she didn't have to return very often.
"So, Alaric is trying to pull himself together, why is that a bad thing?" Caroline asked Elena as they come upon the table meant for refreshments, which was currently covered in decorations. Faye moved to begin to sort through them along with Elena while Caroline watched over, being the new head since Rebekah hadn't showed.
"I just..." Elena let out a sigh, "I wish there was something I could do."
Faye grabbed a flimsy black chandelier and held it up to Caroline, "Where do you want me to hang this thing?"
Caroline scrunched up her nose at it and took it from Faye's hands, "You know what, if Rebekah wanted to hang this monstrosity she should have shown up to do it herself." She gave it to another volunteer student passing by, "Just no!" She then noticed Matt and Jeremy hanging up stars above the dance floor.
"What are you doing?" The blonde vampire yelled to Matt. The two turned, "You can't just hang them! They're supposed to trickle down."
Matt scoffed, "Trickle, duh!" He said to Jeremy, causing Faye to chuckle when she heard it.
"Look at them all bromancy." Caroline noted with a small smile on her face.
"Yeah I asked Matt to help Jeremy readjust." Elena told Caroline and Faye both, "He got him his old job back at the Grill."
"That was nice of him."
Elena shrugged, "Jeremy has got a lot on his mind. The whole thing with Alaric has got him really stressed out."
"You sure it has nothing to do with witnessing you and Damon getting hot and heavy against the ice machine?" Faye asked with a smirk on her face. Elena responded with wide eyes, not knowing she had known, "Damon told me. We gossiped about it."
Caroline nodded, agreeing with Faye, "Maybe that did mess him up a little."
"You guys are evil." The doppelganger pointed out.
"But you love us." Caroline said, "So who are you two bringing to the dance?"
Elena wrapped a feather boa around her neck and frowned, "What do you mean? I thought you, Bonnie, Faye and I were going as girl dates."
"Well, Faye's my date and Bonnie has an actual date." Caroline informed Elena.
"What?" The hybrid's eyes widened in shock.
"Jamie called and wanted to see her so she asked him."
Elena lips puckered slightly as she hummed. She removed the boa from around her neck and laid it down.
Caroline grew a small smile, "So here's a thought, why don't you ask Stefan?"
"I can't ask him on a date, I just made out with his brother." Elena said.
"All the more reason!" Caroline attempted to convince her, "Look you're supposed to be figuring out what you want, that's what Stefan wanted you to do, right?"
"Yeah but-"
"But nothing!" The blonde vampire cut her off, "I've watched The Bachelor, okay? Fair is fair. It is Stefan's turn."
"Yeah and you're not biased or anything." Elena muttered more under her breath.
"Then let's ask someone who's not." Caroline looked over at Faye who was listening intently as she toyed with the boa Elena had laid down. She rose an eyebrow at the strawberry blonde, silently asking for her opinion.
Faye sighed and looked towards Elena, "Go with Stefan because he actually is enrolled in this school and it won't be weird if he shows up as your date."
"Good." Caroline praised Faye's words, earning a slight glare from Elena, "I'm sorry, but Stefan is your epic love. And I'm not going down without a fight."
__
Faye finished decorating for the dance and by the time they were done, it was time to start getting ready. The hybrid didn't take much time to do so, but Lacey did since she was the one actually helping Faye. She wanted her to look better than anyone there since she had actually knew what the twenties looked like.
"So." Faye began when she stepped into the living room where Elijah was lounging, reading a book. He looked up when she and Lacey entered the room, "How do I look?"
Wearing an emerald colored dress with black beaded detailings, Faye stood complete in 1920's attire. The dress had been borrowed from Lacey's trunk of clothes she kept from the era along with the pumps and gloves she wore. Lacey had kept her makeup simple, the one thing going against the era, and her hair was made up into a faux bob which was pinned with a jeweled clip.
Elijah smiled at his goddaughter, "You look wonderful."
"Thanks to me. Her hair wouldn't have survived if she had done it herself." Lacey said, stroking the strawberry blonde curls she had worked with, "But, she doesn't have a date."
"I do have a date!" Faye told her aunt, "Caroline and I are girl dates."
"What about the Lockwood boy?" Elijah questioned.
"He's not going out in public because he needs to avoid your brother." The hybrid answered, "And he's still pissed at me so we haven't spoke."
Lacey sighed, "Don't worry about him." She told Faye, "Go have fun with Caroline. You need it." She then pulled her phone out from her back pocket, "But not without pictures first."
"Lacey, no!"
__
When Faye arrived to the dance with Caroline by her side, it had been already full of dancing teenagers in Halloween store bought costumes. Faye smiled brightly when she saw Bonnie dancing around Jamie nearby.
"I admit, this is a lot more fun than the seventies." Caroline said when they stepped into the dance, "Rebekah was right."
"Can you feel the disgust for you saying that radiating from me?" Faye asked after Caroline had said the last sentence. The blonde vampire sarcastically laughed before elbowing her, "So, what do we do firs-"
"There's Matt, let's go say hi!" Caroline called out before Faye could even finish her sentence. She dragged Faye over to where Matt was restocking the drinks with ice, being the lovely person he was.
"Have I told you how amazingly awesome you are?" Caroline began when they stopped next to the blond.
"Yeah, I'm one of the good ones, I know..." Matt started off with a grin, but suddenly his eyes narrowed, "Why the compliments, what else do you want?"
Faye knew there was a reason behind it when the vampire standing next to her let out a sigh, "I know that you and Elena have been getting closer lately..." Caroline trailed off, leaving Matt questioning her.
"And your point is...?"
"One way or the other she is pretty much spoken for." She finally finished.
Matt inhaled heavily, "Elena is my friend, Caroline. I'm just looking out for her."
"And I'm just looking out for you. Because sometimes the people who love her get caught in the crossfire." Caroline told him.
"I on the other hand appreciate that you are restocking the drinks." Faye bumped in, trying to clear up the tension Caroline had created by the conversation. Matt gave her an appreciative smile before he looked past her.
Suddenly, his smile disappeared and the expression on his face turned into one of confusion, "What's he doing here?" He asked out loud.
Faye turned to follow his line of sight. Her own eyes grew wide when she saw Tyler greeting his friends, shaking their hands. She huffed before mumbling a goodbye to Matt and Caroline and walking over to Tyler. He turned to look towards her and his friends dispersed amongst the crowd.
"Are you crazy?" She hissed through her teeth, "If Klaus sees you..."
"What's he going to do?" Tyler sassed, "Draw you another picture?"
"Tyler, this isn't a joke!" Faye snapped at him. She wasn't going to let him be killed because he wanted to come to a high school dance.
He just simply shrugged in response, "I can pretend I'm sired if I have to. But I'm not gonna hide while he's macking all over you."
"You don't have to be jealous of Klaus, Tyler." The strawberry blonde assured him.
"I am jealous, but I'm also competitive. So hang on, I'm about to sweep you off your feet." He finished with a smile on his face.
Faye didn't understand fully what he meant until he placed his arms under her legs and picked her up in his arms. He spun her around once before sitting her down on her feet. Faye giggled and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"I'm glad you came." She told him truthfully, "Caroline's a great date and all, but she's not gonna' go home with me after."
"So, I'm going home with you?" Tyler raised his eyebrow at her.
"Mhmm." She said, "You owe me to make up for last night."
Faye leaned in and placed a lingering kiss on his lips. Tyler's eyes fluttered open when she pulled away. A smirk grew on his face before she led him out to the middle of the crowd of dancing couples so they could dance themselves.
__
The couple danced together for a while, even when Damon had showed up and stole Elena and Stefan away. Faye was going to break away from dancing, but Damon's eyes connected with her's and she watched him mouth the words "stay put" before he left. She did as she was told for once in the time she had been back in her human form, knowing if they really needed her help, they would come to her.
As her and Tyler slow danced, she noticed him grow stiff under her hold and his eyes wander elsewhere than hers. Faye frowned at him.
"What is it?" She asked. He didn't respond so she turned around to look herself.
Walking up to them was Klaus Mikaelson wearing a pristine white suit, most likely from his days in the twenties. Faye's breath caught in her throat suddenly. She didn't understand why, but it did at the sight of him dressed up and staring straight at her.
When he stopped next to them, she felt Tyler's grip on her waist tightening. Faye rubbed his shoulder softly, trying to calm him down to her best ability.
"Where've you been mate?" Klaus asked the hybrid he sired.
"I just got back in town." Tyler responded, his voice strained.
"That's funny, I don't recall giving you permission to leave in the first place." Klaus chided Tyler. His eyes then traveled towards Faye who watched Klaus with warily, "You don't mind if I cut in, do you?"
"Yes!" Faye spoke to him for the first time since he had arrived, "We actually do."
Tyler had no choice, having to pretend he's sired to Klaus, "No, it's fine." He said before removing his arm from Faye's waist. She sighed and took her hand off her shoulder before crossing her arms over her chest. Faye glared straight at Klaus.
"Why do you always have to prove you're the alpha male?!" She asked angrily.
"I don't have to prove anything, love. I am the alpha male." Klaus told her, "And you can't judge. You do it yourself from time to time don't you? Have to prove you're the alpha female here." Faye rolled her eyes at him when he outstretched his hand, "Come on, one dance, I won't bite."
Faye stared at his hand. She turned back to look at Tyler who simply nodded, telling her to take it. She hesitantly took Klaus' hand and he pulled her out into a clearer spot where they could dance. He spun Faye around him before pulling her into the normal dancing position. His hand was pressed gently against the small of her back while the other held her own gloved her.
"You would've loved the 1920s, Faye." Klaus said, his lips close to her ear, "The girls were reckless, sexy, fun. They literally used to dance until they dropped."
"I suppose their dance partners might have had something to do with it." Faye replied, looking anywhere but him.
"You should be nicer to me." Klaus' words made her roll her eyes, "I'm leaving town tomorrow."
"About time."
He continued despite her comment, "I'd invite you to come with me but we both know you're not ready to accept my offer with your pack being here and all. Perhaps one day, in a year, or even in a century you'll turn up at my door and let me show you what the world has to offer."
The strawberry blonde glanced over at him when he finished, her green eyes meeting his blue. Their eyes poured into each others and she felt his hand tighten around hers. Her breath was once again hitched in her throat because of Klaus. Hearing that he would wait for her for one hundred years surprised her and made her undead heart flutter. Faye wondered for a moment if his feelings he had said he had were actually more genuine than he thought.
Though, it didn't change the fact he still was Klaus, the person who had done so many horrible things to her and her pack. She turned her head away from him, breathing in heavily through her nose. Faye felt his body tense when she did so.
Klaus removed his hand from hers and looked at her, his eyes full of anger, "You mark my words." He said, "A small town boy, a small town life, it won't be enough for you."
Faye opened her mouth to respond, but he was already storming away from her. Her lips were parted in a silent gasp, still shocked and confused by what had just happened.
__
Faye's second real high school dance was ruined by not only Klaus, but also by being informed that Esther was back and every supernatural creature that had came inside the school were now trapped there. She sent out a warning text to Lacey and Elijah, telling them to not do anything stupid. They responded with the same words.
She sat in the gym with Tyler, waiting for news on where Esther was and if they could stop her. Faye was pacing back in forth, most likely have made a hole in the gym floor by doing it so much. She hated that this happened on the day she was supposed to not worry and be normal, but nothing would ever be like that for her.
The sounds of footsteps became known to Faye and she turned her head to see Stefan walking into the gym. He moved up to her and began giving her the news.
"They're at the old cemetery." Stefan informed her and Tyler, "Jeremy and Matt are headed there right now."
"You let them go?!" Faye yelled at him, "They're gonna get themselves killed!"
Stefan sighed, "I didn't have a choice, Faye. We're useless right now stuck in here." The worry he had building up inside him was showing through his features. Faye placed her hand on his shoulder comfortingly.
"Hey, she's gonna be okay." She assured him, "Elena always survives, even when she's actually killed."
"Yeah, well I'm just as worried about what Esther is up to." Stefan told Faye, his eyebrows furrowed together slightly, "She lead Klaus here for a reason. If she succeeds in whatever she's doing -"
"- Klaus could get killed. And I die along with him."
"And Lacey." Faye pointed out, her anxiety only rising. She began chewing on her lip nervously, not knowing what could happen tonight.
"No one is gonna die, okay?" Stefan tried to calm her, "Bonnie is still looking for a way around the boundary spell. It's not too late." He looked at Faye, asking silently if she understood. Faye nodded and with that, he decided to take his leave.
The strawberry blonde hybrid decided that the best thing to do was keep a positive outlook on things. She glanced over towards Tyler, who sat on the bleachers, with a tiny smile on her face, "So, best case scenario: Bonnie gets us out of here, Klaus hauls ass to wherever and you and I, we're home free."
"Or we let Esther come and kill him." Tyler suggested, causing her to immediately grow enraged.
"That's not a best scenario!" Faye shouted, "That's not even an acceptable scenario!"
"It would be an option if we knew he wasn't the one who turned Stefan and Damon's bloodline." Tyler replied, "You'd be safe. At least he would be gone."
"But so would Lacey and so would you. How could you even say that?" She questioned.
"Because I'm angry." He began, his voice slowly growing louder, "Because I hate him! I should have never let him dance with you!"
Faye sighed, "What were you supposed to do?" She asked him as she began stepping up the bleachers so she could go to sit next to him, "He can't know that you're not sired any more." She placed her gloved hand on his cheek, "Tyler, it doesn't matter how many times I dance with him. I love you."
Tyler watched her for a moment before she leaned in and pressed a loving kiss to his lips. When she pulled away, she smiled.
"Remember that."
__
Bonnie eventually got the boundary spell broken when Esther stopped fighting her, the reason being that Alaric had killed her. It was only fair, seeing as Esther ensured his death the same way.
It was a surprise to everyone when they heard that Esther attempted to turn him into a Original vampire hunter and presented him with a invincible white oak stake. Alaric wasn't going to turn though, making the decision to go out peacefully. Everyone gathered to say goodbye to him, which brought tears to Faye's eyes. Alaric was one of the first people to ever accept her when they were first introduced and they got along perfectly. She didn't want to see him go.
Faye sat in her room after it was all over, having gone home after she said her goodbyes. She laid curled up on her bed, wearing her night clothes that she had changed into. Tears that had escaped were rolling down her face. She couldn't help but cry.
When she felt the side of her bed sink in, she didn't turn her head to see, knowing immediately by their scent.
"Your mom's a bitch." Faye told Elijah, who stroked her hair comfortingly.
"You aren't wrong Faye." He replied.
After that, neither of them spoke as he sat their comforting his goddaughter over a new loss.

A/N: Ending was shit yes, but I couldn't figure out how to end it! It was bothering me so I kind of just wrote that and said there. BUT THE REST OF THE CHAPTER WAS OKAY RIGHT? LIKE THE KLAYE SCENE THAT I WROTE AND THE FAYLER? ALSO THE FAYMON IN THE BEGINNING? Ric's death also was one of the tvd deaths I cried at because he is such an amazing character. Si glad he's back in business baby.
Reminder: I am doing a Q&A after this season of FTHOAW ends! IF you have a question you can either comment it on this chapter, but I prefer if you would do it on the one titled 'Q&A NOTICE' so it's easier to rifle through them.
Also ONLY TWO MORE EPISODES LEFT IN THIS SEASON. Both will be very depressing, especially the last. I;m so excited to write season three of this because THE KLAYE WILL BE INTENSE AND WILL MAKE UP FOR ALL OF THOSE MOMENTS YOU FAYLER HATERS HAD TO READ TYLER AND FAYE TOGETHER.
Next chapter: Not so dead Alaric, torture, and a much needed rescue.
REMEMBER I NEED TEN COMMENTS THAT DON'T INCLUDE THE WORD "UPDATE" OR ANYTHING LIKE IT FOR ME TO DO EXACTLY THAT.
