FORTY NINE ▶ FAYE'S FIRST DATE

"What do you mean your canceling on me?" Caroline said to Faye over the phone. There was annoyance in her voice directed at the hybrid who had to ditch setting up for Miss Mystic Falls.

"I'm sorry. I forgot that I had a volunteer shift at the hospital." Faye said to her as she loaded up different utensils and medicines on of the carts for the nurses there who would have to go around and do the daily check ups for the patients in the pediatric center. It wasn't much of surprise when they asked her, a volunteer, to handle things that weren't supposed to be handled by her, but most of the on call nurses and doctors there saw her as basically one of them and didn't care much, "But in place of me, you have Lacey who actually would love to help you."

"Are you saying that you didn't want to help me set up?" Caroline's tone made Faye's eyes widened, knowing she put herself in a bad spot.

"It's just, you get kind of crabby when you're doing this stuff and it's the only time I've been afraid for my life around you." Faye told her softly, letting out a long sigh. Caroline grumbled on the other line, "I'm sorry, really."

"You and Stefan are really bad at Miss Mystic Falls attendance." Caroline huffed.

"I'm gonna' come to the event, I'm just not helping you set up for it." Faye told her. She then frowned when she realized fully what she said, "Why is Stefan not coming?"

"Him and Elena broke up." The blonde revealed sadly, "He's really upset and he might spiral out of control. As one of his sober sponsors, I'm not allowing that to happen."

"Why did they break up? I thought Elena chose him." Faye furrowed her brows together in confusion.

Caroline sighed, "I think she changed her mind. She told him she has feelings for Damon."

Faye's mouth formed into an 'o' shape. She wasn't surprised at the fact Elena had feelings for him, but she was surprised that she actually came out and said it. It wasn't something she expressed and when Stefan tried to get her to admit it, she refused.

"Wow." Faye whistled, "Does Damon know?"

"Are you really asking about him right now?"

"Yes, I am. He'd be over the moon if he heard that." The strawberry blonde said, "I'm team Salvatore happiness. Damon gets to be happy finally and then I'm going to work on Stefan's. Find him a nice girl and they'll fall in love."

"Who do you have in mind?"

Faye grinned widely in response, "You'll see, Care. I'll talk to you later. I need to finish this or Meredith might have my head."

"Fine." Caroline sighed out, "I'm still mad at you though."

"I will do everything in my power to make you forgive me."

There was a chuckle from the blonde vampire before goodbyes were exchanged. Faye hung up her phone and placed it into the pocket of her pants. She let out a long exhale before getting back to work on restocking the necessary items on the cart.

She was crouched down towards the floor to load up the bandages on the bottom shelf of the cart when an accent she was too familiar with seeped into her ears.

"Talking on the job?"

Faye didn't look up at him for a second and kept at work, "Not anymore so go away, Klaus. I'm trying to prepare for my future."

Klaus ignored her completely, a small smile growing on his lips, "I just need to ask you a question and when I went to the event preparation, I ran into your aunt who pointed me in this direct."

"Why didn't you just shoot me a text?"

"I find it much more intimate to ask in person." He responded. Faye finally looked over at him and raised a brow at his words. He only smiled and continued, "What time should I pick you up tomorrow?"

"For what?" She asked.

"Our date."

Faye had almost forgotten about that with the events that had gone down the night before. It wasn't something she had gone to bed with on her mind, instead it having been overwhelming fury at the Lockwood who had attacked her for the deal she had made with the said Original hybrid who wanted to take her on a date.

"Tomorrow I don't think is the best time for me." Faye responded to him, turning back to her work, hoping he would leave at her answer.

Klaus, being his persistent self, didn't stop there. He stepped up closer to her crouched form and looked down at her, "Tomorrow is the best time. The Miss Mystic Falls pageant would be the best place for us to go."

"Or a movie theater, where actual people go on dates together and it's dark so people don't see me with you." Faye teased him with the last part more. It was Klaus' turn to roll his eyes.

"Let me take you to the pageant, love. I doubt you would want to go dateless." Klaus attempted to convince her, but she didn't respond. All she did was look up at him. When their eyes connected, he took it as his chance to plead with his eyes, pulling a look she feel like she had used on Lacey more times than she could count. Faye couldn't help but give in at his puppy dog eyes and stood up to her full height.

"Fine." She finally said, "I'll go with you. Just don't get me a dress, or jewelry, or even draw me a cute little picture because you said you want an actual date and all that, is not normal." She pointed her finger at him, giving him a stern look, "And meet me there at two. Got it?"

Klaus nodded submissively, trying to not to show the pleased smile on his face to her. Faye stood up proudly, "Good, now go back to your daily evil checklist so I can get my work done."

"I'll see you tomorrow, Faye." Klaus told her before turning around and walking away from her.

Faye got back down to be able to reach the bottom shelf properly and continue restocking everything. When she knew the Original hybrid was out of sight, she pulled a small smile, a bit of excitement forming in her stomach at the thought of her actual first date.

__

Faye woke up the next day feeling giddy and excited for what would be her first labelled date in existence. It felt like a huge milestone to her in her plan to have normality in her life, even if it was a date with Klaus Mikaelson, the man who had caused trouble in Mystic Falls for the past year. It had been a long time coming for it to happen.

"It's weird that Klaus is your date." Lacey muttered to her niece as they entered the backyard of the Lockwood home for the Miss Mystic Pageant. Faye wouldn't have been no where near that place after the incidents of the night before if it hadn't been for the wrath of Caroline or Klaus' desperate desire to spend time with her there. She didn't particularly wanted to be near Tyler after he attacked and insulated her.

"It's what he wanted." Faye responded to her, "I'm doing this because he gave up one of his hybrids so Elena could be saved."

Lacey raised an eyebrow at her, "You're not excited?" The questioned seemed a bit sarcastic. The older woman knew she was excited. She had watch the strawberry blonde get ready and chose a dress out of her closet that she found perfect enough (she had gone through many before choosing a plain navy blue dress with a beaded neckline).

Faye tried to keep a straight face, but she ended up smiling widely and giggling, "Okay! You can't judge me though. This is my first official date that I've ever been on and it's kind of exciting, even if it is with Klaus."

"Tyler never took you anywhere?"

"No." Faye muttered sadly, "Maybe it was because we were always so busy with all of the supernatural crap that we never took the chance to go see a movie or maybe it was something else. We just had a lot of sex."

"Maybe it was the fact that he was a dirty little bastard." Lacey hissed between her teeth, the grudge she had against the male hybrid for hurting her niece coming through.

"You're probably right." The strawberry blonde sighed, "Oh well, there are plenty of fish in the sea, right?"

"You might not be thinking like that after your date with Klaus." Lacey teased.

"Psh, no." Faye waved her hand, "I'm not gonna fall in love with Klaus after one simple date. He will forever be stuck in the enemy turned ally zone."

"I doubt that, Faye." Lacey replied to her, shaking her head, "You've been spouting some things over the past few months that make me think otherwise."

"Oh." The sound of a British accent made Faye's eyes widen. She jolted around at the simple sound of his voice, meeting the blue eyes of Klaus Mikaelson in an instant with her own green ones. They were full of joy and excitement, something she had seen very little of from the time that they have known each other.

The Original Hybrid stood dressed in a suit, one with a tie to make it more casual than the bow he had at the Mikaelson Ball. A small smirk was playing on his plump lips, most likely of what Lacey was going on about, giving him something to taunt Faye with. He looked date ready and dare Faye say it, handsome.

"What has she been spouting about me, Lacinia?" Klaus raised a brow at the blonde.

"I've just been telling her about how much of a pain in my ass you are." Faye butted in, covering her aunts mouth before she could say a word. She sent a glare in Lacey's direction before removing it.

Lacey shrugged, "Sorry, Klaus. Can't tell you a thing." She said to him. She began backing away from the two with a small smile on her face, "You two have fun on your date."

"We will, Lacinia."

"It's Lacey, Klaus." The blonde vampire replied before turning on her heel and walking away, leaving the two hybrids alone. There was silence on Faye's part, not really knowing what to say, but Klaus had no problem beginning to chat her up.

"You look lovely, Faye."

"Thanks." She sheepishly looked down at herself,  "I was trying."

"For me, love? Really?" Klaus placed his hand over his heart mockingly.

Faye slapped his shoulder playfully and rolled her eyes, "No. It's for me. I'm going to tell the story of my first date one day to one of my pack mate's kids and it better start with me looking like a goddess."

The grin on his face widened even more, "I assure you that you've done a good job with that."

"I'm sure I did."

The two stared into each other's eyes for a long moment, both smiling like idiots and exchanging something that no one would believe if they ever heard of their past together. Klaus' gaze finally diverted from her's and it traveled to look over her shoulder at something. Whatever it was, it made his joyful expression drop and anger to seep into his eyes.

"They didn't waste any time, did they?" Klaus said finally causing Faye to turn around and get a good look at whatever had changed his mood so quickly. Tyler was walking Hayley, holding her hand tightly and laughing together. Faye drew her lip between her teeth, Chewing on it harshly. She wasn't going to let them ruin her mood.

"Of course they didn't." She responded in a calm voice, "Tyler's an asshole with no respect for anyone. Let's just get as far as possible from them before I feel the need to puke or gut someone."

"I can agree to that." Klaus held up his arm for her to take and Faye did not even hesitate for a second to link her arm with his and let him lead her where he wanted to take her.

__

So far, Faye wasn't angry with her first date. Despite the small turbulence provided by cheater Lockwood and his werewolf girlfriend, everything was going well. They had watched the contestants be introduced and then dance with their escorts together, having him comment on every wrong move made that made Faye snort. Even when the discovery of Jeremy Gilbert being missing and Caroline calling out Elena before having to be dragged away by Lacey and offered a glass of champagne to calm her down did not ruin Faye's good time.

"I get where Care's coming from you know, even though I'm happy for Damon to finally be getting the love he deserves." Faye muttered as her and Klaus walked along the small pond in the Lockwood's backyard towards a space where they could sit and have a couple of glass of champagne, the reason Klaus was carrying the bottle of it and two glasses, "Elena is acting a bit weird ever since she became a vampire. Breaking up with Stefan was the first thing, especially after she chose him when everyone thought they were dying."

"So, being a vampire changed her?" Klaus asked.

"Yeah. But it doesn't make sense because being a vampire amplifies who you are, not completely change your whole personality." Faye shook her head and sighed, "Maybe it's for the good, maybe for the worse, but I just know that it's making Caroline go nuts and when she's not happy, no one is."

"It's very peculiar." He responded with a small knowing smirk on his lips. Faye glanced over at him, narrowing her eyes.

"You know something?"

"It'll all make sense eventually." He replied vaguely, causing her to roll here eyes.

"You Originals, always so secretive." Faye muttered, plopping down on the stone bench sitting aside the water,  "Just get to finding the cure. I would like to go back to a time where everything's calm and collective."

"I'm working on it." Klaus sat down next to her. He began attempting to open up the bottle of champagne he had. Faye watched him with curiosity etched across her features.

"Would you take it?" She questioned, referring to the cure.

Klaus responded without looking over at her, "Now, why would I want to cure myself of being the most powerful creature on the planet? Hmm?"

"So, there's not a moment in your entire life you wanted to be human?" Faye asked him, not believing him at all. He wouldn't open up about his emotions in front of her, she knew it. He had only done it once or twice and those times, it hadn't even been him pouring his heart out to heart. It was simple and that was it, nothing he gave allowed it to be used against him.

Klaus ignored her questioned, focusing back on the champagne bottle. He popped off the cork without a problem, the liquid bubbling over the lip of the glass. Klaus easily passed it over the champagne glass, allowing it to fill it up before passing it off to Faye. She nodded at him in thank you and took a small sip as she looked out across the water.

"What about you?" The male hybrid asked her once he had his own glass, "Would you take it?"

Faye shook her head, answering immediately with the glass inches away from her lips, "I don't think so."

"Why not?" Klaus asked her, "What was it you said? You wanted the life you've always wanted? Go to prom, fall in love, get your nursing degree, be a normal teenager...."

"Haha." Faye deadpanned, "I didn't tell you that so you could make fun of me for the rest of eternity."

"Then you shouldn't have."

Faye punched him in his shoulder, scoffing at him with a smile on her face, "Shut up, I thought you were going to be dead and it didn't matter if I poured my heart out to you. You couldn't tell anyone." She said, "And besides, I can do all that being an immortal hybrid."

"Might raise some suspicions."

"I'll compel them all away." She replied, grinning and leaning towards him.

"That may interfere with your life of normality." Klaus went back to teasing her, "Will you compel yourself a prom date too, love?"

"Klaus, I will push you in that pond without hesitation if you make fun of me one more time."

"That won't look very well on your college application."

"That's it."

Faye got up and pulled him up with her. She turned him towards the water and tried to shove him into it, having no luck as he dug his feet into the ground and used all of his strength to fight against her. Laughter surrounded them within seconds as she kept on trying, a thing that seemed to becoming more common between the two. And another common thing being the jealousy rising in Tyler as he watched them from afar.

__

"Sometimes, I hate not being a founding family." Faye muttered as she and Klaus watched April Young be crowned as that years Miss Mystic Falls, "I never get to be in any of this crap."

"It may possibly be because when your were seventeen, you were still trapped as a wolf running around the woods." Klaus commented, "I don't believe you would have been the ideal candidate."

"I was the ideal candidate for the queen of the animal kingdom. And I'll have you know, I took that thrown and had no mercy." Faye held her head high jokingly proud of herself. Klaus chuckled at her words, leading her off from the crowd surrounding the stage and over to walk along the edge of the pond once again. Her arm was linked with his, the two side by side, "But it would have been nice you know. To only worry about if you were gonna' win the crown or not instead of whether today will be the day Klaus decides your not good enough to stay alive."

"Now look who's making fun of me." Klaus noted, glancing over at her.

"It's payback, bitch."

There it was again, the laugh that would escape Klaus' lips and would just make Faye instantly light up at such the rare sight. It wasn't sinister, it wasn't sarcastic, it was a genuine laugh that Faye slowly may be starting to adore, but she won't admit it to anyone.

The two hybrids walked together, keeping silent after that. Klaus would glance over at Faye a couple of times to see her looking down at the ground, watching how they stepped in sync together, blushing. They had reached a small bridge over a stream that led to all of the tables that had been set up and Klaus stopped them, unlinking their arms. He took a step away from Faye, causing her to frown.

"What?" She questioned him.

"I never answered your question; if I ever thought about being human." Klaus began. She stared at him, waiting to hear what he had to say, "Once, I was on a trek in the Andies, and a hummingbird flew up to me. It just hovered there, staring at me, its tiny heart was pattering like a machine gun. And I thought, what a thing, you know, to have to work that hard every day just to stay alive. To be constantly on the verge of death and how satisfying every day must be that it survived. And that was the only time I thought about being human."

Faye hung on to every word. If he had told her that story to her a few months ago, when she looked at him as a monster instead of someone that could possibly have some good in him, she would have laughed and deemed it as bullshit. But now, after she grew and looked at Klaus in a different light, she knew it was true. It just showed her that Klaus was redeemable. He had humanity, he had emotions, he cared; this whole day showed her that. And maybe, just maybe, he could come through and show everyone he wasn't the villain of their story.

"I never really thought about it that way." Faye responded, "To be truthful, I don't even know what being human is like."

"Be grateful that you may never know."

__

The rest of the day was spent together. Faye found herself not wanting to leave Klaus' presence, having grown accustomed to it now that it wasn't the two clashing together as enemies, but now chatting and joking as friends. But, the had to come to an end and their date would finish, ending the debt Faye owed him for the hybrid. She was glad she had accepted the deal now, seeing as before she had regrets about saying yes.

"Thanks for today. It was surprisingly one of the least stressful days I've had in my life that I know of and that's a lot saying I spent it with you." Faye said when they stopped in front of the door to the Daniels home, the night sky surrounding them. Klaus' jacket was swung over her shoulders, having her complained about the chill in the air. It hadn't even had been that cold, but with the removal of her fur still affecting her, she found it freezing. The event had lasted until sundown and Klaus had decided to take her home, not caring one bit that she had hitched a ride with Lacey and the woman may be thinking that she was to come home with her.

"I wanted to make our first and possibly only date memorable so you could tell one of your pack mate's children about it." Klaus replied to her.

"Well, I think you did a good job. It was the best time I've ever had with you, but that doesn't take much since some of the times, you were trying to kill either me or my pack." Faye told him, Klaus rolling his eyes at the mention of his past deeds. The taunts and teases back and forth had been going on all day and Faye hadn't called a quits on it just yet; neither had he, "And don't say possibly as if you're going to get another date. You're not."

"I'm sure another opportunity will arise where you will need to bargain one for something." He said in response, "And don't pretend you don't adore me now, love."

"I can confirm that I don't." Faye smirked up at him. He did the same as he watched her turn on her heel a go towards the front door, "Thanks again, Klaus. I'm keeping your jacket by the way. It's comfy."

"Do as you please, sweetheart. Just don't go spouting about me again to your aunt."

Faye gave him one last playful eye roll before opening the door to her home and stepping inside. She shut the door behind her, hearing Klaus' footsteps as he began to leave when she did so. She bit her lip when he was going, something bubbling inside her that she hadn't quite felt for Klaus before. The hybrid used to feel it around Tyler when they were first starting to get to know each other. She shook her head at it, pushing the feeling back and ignoring it.

The strawberry blonde Daniels walked away from the door and into the living room of her home where she came to a halt when she saw Lacey, Stefan and Caroline all sitting in a circle on the various chairs and couches.

"What's going on?" She questioned quickly, "Is this an intervention?"

"No." Stefan shook his head, "Is that Klaus' jacket?"

"No." Faye denied all to quickly, causing Stefan to quirk a brow. The hybrid ignored it. She sat down next to Lacey on the couch and furrowed her brows together, "Seriously, what's going on?" She asked, looking towards her aunt.

"Elena's sired to Damon."

And there it was, the bad ending to her perfect day.
