FIFTY THREE ▶ UPLOOKING
The front door of the Daniels home closed loudly, causing Faye to curse under her breathe. She had meant to sneak in before Lacey had woken up, and she had totally failed at that. Being MIA for three days and refusing to answer any calls or texts was going to cause some sort of trouble for her and she was going to feel the much older Daniels woman's wrath when she stormed downstairs.
"Oh, look what the cat dragged in." The accented voice that seeped into Faye's ears made her groan out loudly. She didn't want to see any Original, and if she had to choose, it wasn't going to be this one.
"Rebekah." Faye said in a bored tone, looking up at the blonde standing with a wide smirk on her face. She dropped her bag to the ground beside her, "I heard you got out of your box again and made a wreck of my pack."
Rebekah clicked her tongue and smiled even wider, "Well, we all know Stefan had it coming with him helping Nik dagger me. Shame you hadn't been there. I would've loved to hear about your new found thoughts about my brother."
"And I would love to hear about where the hell you've been for the past three days."
Lacey's voiced seeped in after Rebekah finished. She stood in the open entryway to the living room, her arms crossed over her chest and her eyes filled with what could possible be the smallest amount of anger she had ever received from the older Daniels woman.
The hybrid looked towards her aunt with a sigh passing through her lips. She answered simply, "I was with Damon and Jeremy at the lake house training that idiot how to be a good hunter."
"See, look how simple that was." Lacey stated bitterly, "It would have been even easier in text form."
"So, you're on Team Klaus to in the race for the cure?" The Original in the room butted in, not even giving the chance for Faye to reply to the other vampire. The strawberry blonde glared over at her, "Oh, right, there is that petty lover's tiff going on. Almost forgot."
"Rebekah..." The tone of warning was clear in Lacey's words.
"Don't you have somewhere else to be?" Faye snapped at her, the mention of Klaus bringing sadness, more than anger, swimming inside her, "Or is bothering me your main priority today?"
The Original cracked an annoyed smile at her, "I was looking for extra support on my team, but, it seems Lacinia over here doesn't want the cure and you are extremely bitter, which I rather stray from." Lacey gave a small tight lipped smile, silently saying "sorry" while Faye just crossed her arms over her chest, not bothered by the fact Rebekah was upset over it, "Oh, well. Must be on my way then, big plans today. Maybe we can talk offer coffee soon if you'd like to, Lacinia."
The fellow blonde agreed, before offering to show her out. Lacey didn't even falter to give Faye a glance, telling her she was in serious trouble and they were going to talk. Faye grumbled under her breath like a newly grounded teenager as she watched the two blondes exchange goodbyes.
It wasn't long before the door shut and Faye was already getting an earful from her aunt.
"Faye Rebekah Daniels, what is wrong with you?" Lacey hissed out at her niece, "Disappearing for three days with no text or phone call? Don't you know how worried I was? You run off the minute after the sheriff calls me to say you found the body of Carol Lockwood and when I come to pick you up, you're gone. The only reason I knew you were even alive was because Damon replied and told me you were fine."
"I know, I know." Faye told her with a small huff, "I should've texted you back and told you where I was. I was just handling some crap and I just kind of wanted to be somewhere that didn't have a person who knew I had feelings for Satan." She looked up, bringing on the puppy dog eyes, "I'm sorry for worrying you."
Lacey exhaled as she looked at her niece. She took a step forward and wrapped her arms around the smaller girl, "I'll let you pass this time because you have an somewhat okay excuse and you apologized. If you do it again though, I might actually ground you."
"You can try, but you will fail." Faye felt Lacey slap her back, letting out a wince, "Bitch."
"Shut up."
Lacey finally pulled back from the hug as she made the comment. She led Faye back to their living room where she and Rebekah had been sitting down while chatting about the cure and other things. The oldest Daniels woman sat back down on the couch where she had sat before hand while the younger took her spot in the comfy arm chair.
"So, what made you finally return back to the coop?" Lacey decided to ask first.
"Well, I was having a dandy time teaching Jeremy how to whoop ass until Damon decided that I wasn't allowed to order pizza anymore." Faye responded, earning a pointed look from the blonde, "Klaus showed up."
"I already don't like the sound of that." The vampire muttered, "What happened?"
The hybrid inhaled before beginning the shortened version of the day, "Well, first he decided to show up and be a prick, got shot, turned a girl who almost killed Matt, and then came while I was burying the body to talk to me. That kind of ended in a mess." She pursed her lips as she remembered the conversation. The way Klaus said that he had never meant to hurt her, then turned around his attitude when she continuously decided to not forgive him. His expressions when she spoke her mind and showed how truly upset she was with him would forever be etched into her brain, "I told him that I feelings for him."
"Jesus christ, Faye." Lacey lowly cursed.
"I know, I fucked up."
"Knowing him, he was an ass about it."
"Of course he was." Faye mumbled, disappointed in him still, "I'm so upset with him. Like I'm not even that angry, I'm just so disappointed. I thought he had changed from that guy who made mistakes and did all these horrible things, but he hadn't. That good side of him I saw was probably an act he just put on to try and get into my pants."
The pitiful look on her niece's face made Lacey get up from her spot and move over to her. She sat on the ledge and placed her hand on the girl's shoulder, "Listen, Faye. Klaus doesn't change, he never has. He's always been and always will be that evil little asshole who does bad things, but the side you saw in him, that good, it's always been there too. It's not that he's changed, but that you brought out the good side of him not a lot of people have seen."
Faye glanced up at her, her eyes wide innocently, "And you've seen it?"
"Yeah, I have." Lacey smiled fondly, remembering the past she had with the Mikaelsons, "Klaus hasn't been my favorite person in the world ever since he came into your life, but don't give up on him just yet. He's not entirely evil."
Faye took her aunt's words to heart, glancing down at her hands, but she truly didn't know if she could forgive Klaus again for the damage he's done.
__
"You have mail." Lacey stepped into Faye's room where she was studying for her finals, the ones she would need to ace in order to graduate. Faye hadn't even thought about it much with everything going on even though it was one of her dreams. Graduate high school and get into college. With the mess with the cure going on and Klaus wrecking things again, she had no time to really sit down and deal with those things. This was one of the few times that she was actually doing something for school that week.
"Who is it from?" Faye asked, not looking up from the notes she was jotting down from her textbook.
"Whitmore." Lacey plopped down on the ledge of the bed, tossing the unopened envelope on top of her work, causing Faye to mess up on the last word she had been writing. The hybrid glanced up her aunt finally with a playful glare pouring into her, "I bet it's your acceptance letter."
Faye glanced down at it, taking her index finger to toy with the corner of the envelope. Sitting in front of was the ticket to her future, something she had been waiting for ever since she had mailed it out. One simple word on the letter can tell her if she's going to make it or break it when it comes to college. Their was the smallest spark of happiness inside her, something she hadn't felt that day really, but also dread.
"Are you going to open it?" Lacey asked her, the anticipation too much for her.
"I don't know." Faye sighed, "Don't want to be more crushed than I already am when I discover I didn't get accepted." She finished of in a defeated tone.
The blonde sitting on her bed huffed, "Faye, they accepted you. If they didn't, their idiots to turn down literally the smartest hybrid I know."
"You know like three hybrids."
"Yeah and one of them has been alive for a thousand years. That really says something." Lacey grinned when she saw the flicker of a smile appear on the strawberry blonde's face.
Faye decided to grab the envelope, shutting the textbook and pushing aside her notebook as she did. The main focus here was the letter from her top pick college and she wasn't going to let anything distract her. Her aunt scooted more onto the bed, picking up her legs to cross them over each other.
The younger Daniels flicked out her index finger, now clawed to slice open the letter. She slid it upon the licked and closed flap, opening it with one slice. It wasn't long before the letter was yanked out and being read out loud.
"Congratulations. We are pleased to tell you that you've been accepted to Whitmore College-" Faye didn't reading off the letter before letting out a loud squeal. She jumped across the bed, throwing her arms around Lacey and squeezing tightly, "I got in!"
"I told you they would!" Lacey chuckled as Faye couldn't to squeeze her.
She finally pulled away from her, allowing the vampire to get some air in her lungs. The excited expression was still on her face, "I have to call everyone and tell them!"
As if on cue, Faye's phone began to ring on her bed, causing her to jump over to it and grab it. Elena's face and name flashed on the screen. She wasn't the first person Faye had planned to tell, but she would work.
The hybrid pressed the answer button quickly before speaking, "Elena, I just got my-"
"Faye, Kol has Damon."
And the happiness she had depleted with ease, as if it had never existed on that day and time.
__
Deep breaths were the only thing keeping her under control. She didn't want to see his face, but she had to. She was the only one who could convince him of doing anything remotely good for her pack and at that moment, they were in a time of need.
Faye raised her first and rapped her knuckles against the towering doors of the home. If it was any other time, the time where Klaus hadn't done another horrible thing, she would barge right in without a problem. But, it wasn't.
It wasn't long before the door opened, revealing Klaus standing before her. His eyes had shown his shock at seeing her for a moment, but he returned to a poker face after a few seconds. The older hybrid opened his mouth to speak, but Faye brushed past him to get inside, not even caring that he hadn't invited her in.
"Kol has Damon and I don't know what the hell he's going to do to him." Faye said, getting straight to the point. She wasn't facing him as he shut the door.
"Come right in, Faye." He muttered under his breath, even though Faye could still hear him. Klaus walked towards where she stood, her arms crossed over her chest and not facing him, "What did you just say, love?"
Faye turned on her heel to face him, her brows furrowed together, "Don't act like you didn't hear me. Kol has Damon. You're little brother came in and killed all your vampires that you turned before attacking Jeremy and Damon. Jeremy got away luckily." Her tone showed no emotion towards Klaus as she spoke. She didn't want to bring up all the feelings she had towards him up at the moment. It wasn't what she was there for, "You need to call him off."
"A little funny that you're asking me for help." Klaus was bitter towards her.
"This is your fault." The strawberry blonde responded, "You started this when you forced Jeremy to kill those vampires."
The Mikaelson huffed, "And my little brat of a brother has gone and made things worse. Well, he never did like Damon. I suppose I should do something, shouldn't I?" He raised his pointer finger, parting his lips in a slight mocking gasp, "Wait, I forgot. I don't have any good in me as you said, correct?"
Faye swore her eyes almost rolled into the back of her head due to the comment, "Call him off, Klaus." She sternly told him. He didn't reply, keeping his lips shut tight.
The minute he didn't say anything made her think that Damon was just as good as dead. There was an ache in her heart at the thought of her best friend dying. She had been through it before and had sold her soul basically to the man in front of her just to save him. If he died, she would go out of her mind.
Her posture slacked in its stiffness; lacked in the power that she was originally giving off. Faye's arms uncrossed, falling to her sides. The sternness wore off as she took a stepped forward towards Klaus. She was bearing her soul to him now, no longer putting up the front of strength and determination that hid her true worry and terror.
"Please, Klaus. Call Kol off. He'll kill Damon and you know it." Faye spoke softly to him, "I'm begging you."
Klaus pursued his lips when she finished, his eyes boring into hers. She stood there, pleading with him, scared for the life of one of her best friends, one of her boys. They were both quiet as it happened. Neither of them spoke, only just staring at each other waiting for a move to be made.
The Original hybrid finally pulled out his phone from his back pocket and began dialing his brother's number. Faye exhaled, letting out the deep breath she had been holding in anticipation.
Kol answered within two rings, but didn't speak first. It was Klaus who acknowledge their call before him, "Little brother. Just two days home, and I'm told you've already gone and made a mess." He said to the younger Original.
"Come on, Nik. I was only having some fun." Kol's whine was heard through the phone by Faye.
"Those vampires were for my hunter." Klaus told him, annoyed.
"Well, make some more. There's no shortage of people."
Klaus didn't reply to his statement, but instead brought up the more concerning subject that Faye had expressed to him, "Where's Damon Salvatore?"
"I gave him a good and proper beating just for old time's sake." Faye could hear the smirk in Kol's voice and she internally growled. Though she knew Damon could hold his own, she was pissed Kol would even lay a finger on him.
"Yes." The male hybrid rolled his eyes, "Well, you've had your fun. Now let him go and come home. Create any more trouble, or you'll find yourself back in a box."
Kol made a comment about it, but it seemed he agreed that he wouldn't hurt Damon, along with Jeremy when Klaus had told him too. Faye didn't trust Kol much, but she knew that when Jeremy along with Damon were both somewhere safe and protected by a vampire's need to be invited in, there wasn't much he could do to hurt them.
Klaus hung up with his brother after he had been given his word and placed his phone back in his pocket. He searched for approval from Faye and she gave him it, with a small nod.
"Thank you." She said simply before deciding to move past him and make her leave. What she came for was said and done, the reason to stay having diminished into thin air.
But for Klaus, it seemed it hadn't. A hand wrapped around her wrist gently, caressing her skin unlike all of the other times it had been to her. Faye looked back towards him without any wonder what it was about. She knew he was going to say something about the night before whether it was about her expressing her feelings or the complete utter disappoint she had gained because of him.
"Love-"
"I need to go find Damon and make sure he's okay." Faye cut him off from saying anything. She didn't want to talk about it with him when she had the feeling he was never going to accept the fact he had done something horrible and wrong, "But thank you. For stopping Kol." She finished before pulling her arm from his grasp and making her way towards the exit of the home.
Klaus may have shown her that there was good in him and it all hadn't been an act, but she wasn't just going to forgive him and jump into his arms right after it. It was going to take time if any.
__
It was a little while later when Faye found Damon at the Grill with Elena, looking alright and unharmed. She took notice of the way he stood, it being the only thing off. He was stiff and concentrated on something entirely different from whatever Matt was talking about.
Damon walked away from Matt and Elena just as Faye was making her way towards them, having had Matt tell him where Jeremy was. Elena followed after her and Matt exchanged a few words, allowing Faye to catch up with her.
"What the hell is wrong with Damon?" Faye questioned Elena in a low voice the minute she was at her side. Elena looked over at with her frown, wondering what she was going on about, "He's acting off."
"I don't know." Elena shrugged, "He showed up at my house and started asking where Jeremy is. Wants to apologize."
"And you didn't think that sounded odd?" The hybrid let out a small scoff. Damon doesn't apologize to anyone, especially not Jeremy Gilbert. She grabbed Elena's arm and began pulling her faster to where Damon had gone to. Something was wrong and Faye knew whatever it was, could possibly not end well for the Salvatore and the Gilbert.
Damon stood in the middle of the Grill, his eyes on JEremy Gilbert who was across the way. There was a deathly look in his eyes and fear in Jeremy's could easily be scene by Faye when she neared the Salvatore. He was prepared to make a move towards there, but when Elena walked up and called to him, he stopped and turned towards her.
"Damon." The doppelganger turned vampire walked up to him in worry. She placed her hand on his shoulder as her eyebrows furrowed together, "Are you alright? What's going on?" He didn't answer her, but instead began walking away from the two towards the storage room with it's door swinging closed. Jeremy must have gone in there and Damon was determined to follow him.
"What the shit." Faye muttered, continuing to trail Damon with Elena. He slammed into the storage room, finding Jeremy nowhere to be found. The vampire cursed under his breath, worrying Elena.
"Damon, what is wrong with you?" Elena asked her boyfriend again.
Damon finally answered her. Turning around, exasperated, he spoke, "It was Kol. He must have compelled me." He announced to the two in the room. Faye's eyes widened, anger boiling throughout her towards the Original.
The Salvatore looked away from the and towards the open wall of the room, leading towards the tunnels below the town, "If I find Jeremy..." He began, his gaze going back towards Elena full of apologies and such, "I might kill him."
"Damon-"
Faye couldn't even get a word out before Damon sped away from them into the tunnels. Elena ran forward, letting out a gasp of shock as she looked through the opening and saw Damon racing away from them.
"What are we going to do?" Elena got up and began asking Faye who was in just as much shock and full of anger as her. Kol wanted Jeremy dead and using Damon allowed him to do it without breaking his word. He was certainly Klaus' brother the schemes he pulled.
The hybrid finally decided to come up with the easiest plan she could think of. Grab Damon before he killed Jeremy and then lock him up until either the compulsion wore off or something other than that. As long as Damon was kept under lock down away from Jeremy, both of them would be alright in the end.
Faye looked towards Elena and began putting the simplest plan in motion, "Call Stefan." She ordered, already making her way towards the opening to the tunnels, "I'm going to follow Damon's scent and try to stop him."
"Stop him? How?"
"I'm going to do whatever it takes to get him to stop from killing Jeremy."
__
In the end, Faye did whatever it took. She snapped Damon's neck before he could even get close to killing the Gilbert boy. It wasn't what Elena had preferred her to do, she knew that from watching her try and coax Damon into fighting the compulsion because he loved her, but it didn't work.
Stefan had arrived and brought him to the cellar at the boarding house, bleeding him dry and making him weak so it would be hard to fight his way out of the cell. Elena was refused to be allowed to see him, seeing that he could ask for a release and she would do it for him because for the sire bond. To say she was upset with Stefan when he told her that along with Faye agreeing to him was an understatement.
Faye stood in the parlor room of the boarding house, a glass of whiskey in her hand slowly being chugged down by her. She wasn't the type to drink alcohol all day every day, but today had been another one of those days that just brought up a lot of crap for her to deal with.
The cure seemed it was becoming more of a curse to her than it was a blessing. People were prepared to kill over it not being found or it being found. Her pack's lives were in danger just because some of them desired to be human again. The ultimate goal of being human wasn't worth risking lives and in the end, she knew one of them wasn't going to make it out alive with Originals barking up their trees.
"So, you're team Rebekah for the cure then?" Faye asked Stefan when she heard his footsteps closing in on her. She didn't turn to even glance at him.
"If that's what you want to call it." Stefan began to say to her, "I just want to get to the cure first."
Faye nodded, getting where he was coming from. They were all working with Originals who had caused shit in their lives, so she had no reason to judge.
"You know, maybe the cure isn't worth it." Faye told him, finally turning around to face him. She sat her glass down when Stefan looked at her as if she was crazy, "The chance to be able to grow old and die again. It's not worth what's gonna happen on the way to get it. Death, betrayal. We're risking lives and we've got enemies coming every which direction. Kol was going to kill Jeremy because he didn't want us to raise some evil guy named Silas who is supposedly going to bring hell on Earth from what I heard."
"If you don't want to help anymore, Faye, you don't have to." The younger Salvatore responded, but she knew she couldn't do that.
"I'm still going to help you guys to get it, but I just know this is going to end up." The strawberry blonde continued, "I don't want anything to end up bad."
Stefan placed a hand on her shoulder and sighed, "We're going to be careful and do this right."
"Okay. I trust you." Faye nodded. She didn't think everything would be okay, but she trusted they would try their best.
Stefan smiled at her and she returned it, having it been rare to see a real genuine smile of Stefan since him and Elena had split.
With the mood being raised in the room, the hybrid decided to bring up the other good news of the day, the one where she got something she wanted, "By the way, I got into Whitmore."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
And it was nice to end the day of mess in the arms of one of her boys continually congratulating her on what she had achieved. It turned the mess of a day into something slightly better.
