EIGHTEEN ▶ IF THIS IS MY LAST DAY

"Tonight is the full moon. We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse."

Faye dreaded hearing those words. She usually loved full moons, seeing that it was a great time to connect with her wolf. She hated hearing that it was a full moon tonight though, seeing that this was the perfect time.

"Elena said that the Sun and the Moon curse is fake?" Stefan asked Elijah, "That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus."

"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it..." He turned his gaze on to Faye who sat curled up in a chair, draining a blood bag, "Like Faye, he'll be a true hybrid."

"Then why are we letting him break the curse?" Damon suggested, joining Faye, Elijah, Elena and Stefan's conversation, "We can kill him today. With Bonnie."

"Damon..." Stefan gave him a look.

"No." Elena said, "Bonnie can't use that much power without dying."

Damon groaned, "I'll write her a great eulogy."

Faye released the straw she was drinking from and glared at him, "Not an option, Damon." She growled out, speaking for the first time this morning. Her eyes flashed gold as she snarled at him. She was definitely not in a good mood today.

Stefan sighed, looking back over at Elijah, "All right, how do we break this curse?"

"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." Elijah replied.

"The moonstone."

"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone." Elijah continued listing the ingredients off, "After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each."

"And where do I fit in?" Elena asked.

"The final part of the ritual." Elijah walked over and took a box off the wooden shelf, "Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger... " He looked at the Gilbert girl, "To the point of your death."

Elena clenched her jaw tight and Stefan grabbed her hand, squeezing it. Damon looked at her, worry filling his eyes.

"And that's where you come in." Elena said to Elijah, watching him as he opened the box and pulled out an antique jar.

Elijah held it up for everyone to see, "This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation."

"So I'll be dead?"

"And then you won't."

"That's your plan? A magical witch potion with no expiration date?" Damon asked in outrage. He looked at Elena, "You want to come back to life, what about John's ring?"

"Those rings only work on humans." Faye told Damon, "The doppelgänger's a supernatural occurrence. Even though she may still be human, odds are, it won't work."

Damon glared at Elijah, "I'll take those odds over your elixir." He gave Elena a pleading look, "What if it doesn't work, Elena?"

"Then I guess I'll just be dead."

Damon looked at Stefan who shrugged, not knowing what to say. He stole an angry glance at Elijah before leaving the room.

"Do we know if Klaus has everything he needs to do this?" Elena asked Elijah, "Does he have a werewolf?"

"Klaus has been waiting to break this curse for over a thousand years. If he doesn't already have a werewolf, my guess is by tonight, he will." Elijah replied, worrying everyone.

There was only one werewolf in town currently and that was Faye, but she was only half. They didn't know if he could sacrifice her or not, but they hoped he couldn't.

__

"Breakfast of champions, huh?" Stefan asked Damon who was outside, staring off in to the yard.

Damon shrugged, taking a sip of his scotch, "I'm surrounded by idiots. I need all the help I can get."

Faye walked out, wrapping her shawl over her body, "You know, you're not helping."

"Elijah is an original vampire." Damon said to them, "One we tried to kill. You're going to believe this guy?"

"Damon, we discussed this last night." Faye said, annoyed.

"What do you want me to do, Damon?" Stefan asked his older brother, "Elena made her decision. She's choosing to trust Elijah. I'm going to put my faith in her."

"Why? She's going to end up dead." Damon muttered.

"Because she put her faith in me. She chose to trust me in spite of what I am. I'm going to bet on somebody's instincts, it's going to be hers." Stefan replied, defending his girlfriend.

"Well, then, that makes you the biggest idiot of them all."

Faye rolled her eyes at him and said something she knew who hit him hard, "She chose to trust you, too."

Damon looked at the hybrid, narrowing his eyes at her, "Then maybe you shouldn't be so sure about her instincts."

"Damon..." Faye sighed as she watched him walk back into the house away from them, "Ugh!"

"He'll come around, Faye, he always does." Stefan told her.

Faye bit her lip, "I don't know. I think he might do something."

"Stop worrying, it'll all be fine." Stefan promised her.

"And that's what everyone says in the movie before the killer comes out and slaughters the lot of them." A look of horror passed her face and Stefan chuckled. She nudged him with her elbow, silently telling him to shut his mouth.

Faye's ears perked up when she heard yelling in the household. She looked at Stefan and they both ran to see what was going on. Jenna was standing in the hall, aiming the cross-bow at Alaric who was holding up his hands in surrender.

"What's going on?" Faye asked, watching as Damon, Elena and Elijah walked up on the other side of her and Stefan.

"It's me, Faye, I swear, okay?" Alaric said, pleading with her, "He let me go. Klaus let me go."

Damon crossed his arms over his chest, not convinced, "Prove it."

Alaric looked at Jenna, "Okay, uh, on one of the nights we spent together, Faye broke in the house and walked in when I was about to..."

Faye screeched in horror, remembering that moment, "Oh no, no, no, no! Don't say it!"

"Okay, it's him." Jenna lowered the cross-bow, staring at him with wide, scolding, eyes for bringing that up.

"Why did he let you go?" Stefan asked the history teacher.

"He wanted me to deliver a message." Alaric informed them, "The sacrifice happens tonight."

"Ooh." Faye muttered from behind him, "That's not a good message."

__

"So you don't remember anything that happened?" Stefan asked Alaric as they all sat around in the parlor room. Elijah stood near the large window while Jenna occupied one of the arm chairs. Alaric sat on a little loveseat across from Stefan and Elena who sat on the couch. Faye sat in between Stefan's legs on the ground.

"No." Alaric said, shaking his head, "It's like I blacked out and woke up 3 days later. Katherine was there."

Stefan sighed, "She's under compulsion. Damon snuck her some vervain, but she can't leave until Klaus tells her she can."

"Where is Damon?" Elena asked, looking around for.

"Brooding in his room upstairs." Faye told her, gesturing towards the staircase. Elena got up and began going after him, "Please make him stop, he'll turn in to Stefan and he won't look good with frown lines!" She felt a tug at her hair, "Ow! What the hell, Stef?"

Stefan feigned innocence, looking at her. She drove her elbow in to his knee, causing him to wince. He gave her a annoyed glance and she stuck her tongue out at him.

Elijah watched them interact with an amused smile and Jenna laughed at their antics. Alaric rolled his eyes, seeing the pair always bickering and teasing each other during class.

"Okay, that's enough. I have to sit through all of that everyday." Alaric said to them. Faye made a face at him and settled back into her spot on the floor, "So, what else did I so?"

"You tried to kill me." Faye informed him, "It was all super cool. You were choking me and then I said something snarky, kicked you in the family jewels, and then ran." She leaned back, a proud smirk on her lips, "I was so bad ass."

"Bad asses don't say they're badass." Alaric told her.

"Well, I'll do what I want." Faye replied, their conversation being interrupted by her and Stefan hearing the struggle going on upstairs. Stefan rushed to go to Elena, knowing Stefan was doing something.

Faye counted to twenty, waiting to see if Stefan had the situation handled, as Jenna and Alaric rushed to aid him. When Faye heard his cries in pain, she rushed up the stairs, pushing past the two humans to get in the room.

"What just happened?" Faye asked, looking between Stefan, Elena, and Damon. Alaric and Jenna arrived behind them.

"Get him out of hear!" Elena shouted, referring to Damon.

Faye walked over to him and took his arm, "Damon, let's go."

He pushed her away from him, walking out of the room. Faye looked at him, sighing softly.

"Oh, my God." Jenna muttered, seeing Stefan's wound.

"Okay, Jenna. There's blood bag downstairs in the basement. Go get some." Jenna hesitated, "Go!" Alaric instructed as he watched Faye crouch down next to Stefan. She tore the stick that was poking out of Stefan out of him.

"Stef, hey, you're gonna be okay." Faye told him, patting his head.

Stefan laid his head on Elena's lap and looked up at her, "I'm so sorry.

"It's okay." Elena whispered to him.

"I'm sorry."

__

Faye made sure that Stefan was okay before her and Alaric ventured out to find Damon. Faye followed the scent of bourbon and leather to the grill, finding him sitting at the bar, drowning his worries.

Faye slid in to the seat next to him, waving at the bartender, "Something super strong, I don't care."

"ID?" He asked her.

"I'm of age, get me a goddamn drink." She compelled him and he instantly served her a three shots of vodka. Faye knocked once back, turning to face Damon and Alaric soon after.

"I screwed up." Damon said to them.

Alaric nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, you did."

"Gentlemen? Faye?" Someone walked up next to Faye's chair, "Why so glum?"

Faye turned and looked at him, taking in his appearance. Tall, blonde, British, every teenage girls dream. She looked at him, feeling like she knew him from somewhere. Like she had met him before.

It could have been because Elijah had told her what Klaus had looked like and this man fit that description.

Faye reached over, taking both of her shots. Damon looked at him and groaned, "Ugh. Klaus, I presume."

"In the flesh." Klaus said and smirked at Alaric, "Thanks for the loaner, mate."

Damon stood up, eyeing him, "Any reason you stopped by to say hi?"

"I'm told you and your brother fancy my doppelgänger." Klaus took a step forward, sizing Damon up, "Just thought I'd remind you to not do anything you'll regret."

Faye laughed nervously, getting up. She stood in front of Damon protectively, "Ha. Thanks for the advice." She bit her lip, looking at the other hybrid before her, "I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement, by any chance, huh?"

"You are kidding?" Klaus asked. Faye clenched her teeth together and inhaled sharply. Klaus then asked Alaric, "She is kidding, right?"

Alaric shook his head, "No, not really."

"I mean, come on!" Faye said dramatically, "What's one month in the whole grand scheme of things? Being a hybrid isn't even that great."

"Let me be clear..." Klaus walked up to Faye, looking down at her. She looked up at him with a daring expression, "I have my vampire. I have my werewolf. I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you and your vampire friends want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up." He pushed passed her and walked out of the grill.

Faye glared at the door Klaus had exited through. Damon snorted from beside her, "That was fun."

"You're going to screw it up, aren't you?" Alaric asked Damon.

Damon sighed, turning to face Alaric, "You think if I took his werewolf out of the equation, she might..." He shrugged slightly, "Get over the fact that I tried to turn her into a vampire?"

"I think it won't matter, because you'll be dead." Alaric replied.

"But without the werewolf, he can't perform the ritual tonight, which means I would have bought her one month before the next full moon." Damon concluded.

Faye narrowed his eyes at him, "And you will still be dead."

"Are both you gonna help me or what?" Damon asked Alaric and Faye.

Faye sighed, seeing she was going to save the day again, "What do you want me to do?"

__

Katherine was in the kitchen looking for blood bags when she heard a key in the lock. She got up and went to the front door, seeing Alaric opening the door.

"Look who's dumb enough to come back." Katherine said.

"Well, somebody had to invite them in." Alaric looked back at the doorway, "Faye. Damon. Would you like to, uh, come in?"

Faye walked in, smirking at Katherine. Damon followed inside, looking around at the place. Katherine rushed over to them.

"Are you trying to get me killed?" Katherine growled at the pair.

Faye rolled her eyes and shoved her into the wall, "Damon gave you vervain, now we're here to collect."

"We got it from here, Ric." Damon told him.

"You sure?" Alaric asked them.

"Yeah, you don't need to get blamed for this." Damon replied, "Get back in the house. Keep Elena from handing herself over."

"Okay." Alaric left and Katherine looked at Faye and Damon confused.

"Get blamed for what?" She asked.

Faye clapped her hands together, "We need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf."

"Why? What are you going to do?"

"Dead werewolf equals no ritual." Damon told the other vampire.

Katherine shook her head, "No. You can't interfere, Damon. Klaus will kill you and everyone you've ever met."

"I just need to delay this thing." Damon responded.

"No. No way."

"You should like this." Faye walked towards the brunette, crossing her arms over her chest, "It's going to buy another month of your pathetic life."

"Right." Katherine smirked, "Except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing."

"What?" Damon asked. He was sure Klaus would take the first chance he got to murder Katherine.

"Yeah. He's got Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood." Katherine told Faye and damon, "Therefore, I'm in the clear."

Faye growled, hearing that. All she saw was red as she ran at Katherine, grabbing her by the throat and shoving her into the wall. Katherine struggled against her.

"And where'd he get that idea from?" Faye said, baring her fangs at the vampire, "Where Katherine?!"

"Hey!" Katherine yelled, "Hey, hey, hey, I'm just trying to stay alive long enough to get myself out of here."

Faye was ready to bite her, "You won't be unless you tell me where they are right now. Werewolf bites are really nasty, imagine a hybrid one."

"What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?" Damon said to Katherine, hoping she would tell them quicker.

"What?!" Katherine asked.

Damon shrugged, "Imagine how much fun that will be competing with Elena for Stefan's love for, I don't know, forever."

"The tomb. He's got them in the tomb." Katherine told them. Faye dropped her, letting her fall hard.

"Don't fuck with my pack anymore, got it?" Faye sneered at her, "Because if you do, you will find yourself without a heart." She stormed out of the apartment, only one thing on her mind.

Save Tyler and Caroline, no matter what may happen.

__

Faye and Damon arrived outside of the tomb, seeing one of Klaus' witches. Faye's face changed as she looked at the witch.

"Which one are you two trying to save? The blond, or the wolf?" The witch asked them, "Did you really think Klaus would leave them unprotected?"

"Kind of hoped." Faye growled, "But the more the merrier."

She rushed at the witch, throwing him to the ground. Damon walked up, crouching down to choke him. The witch used his powers to throw both of them away from him and then provoked an aneurysm. Faye and Damon both screamed until there was a gunshot heard throughout the forest.

The witch collapsed to the ground and his spell stopped. Damon stood up, went over to the witch, and snapped his neck. Faye got up and turned towards Matt who was holding the gun.

"What are you doing here?" Faye asked him.

"Where's Caroline?" Matt aimed the gun at her and Faye's eyes widened.

Damon walked over towards the strawberry blonde, "Listen, man. Not a good time to play the hero."

"Where is she?" Matt questioned, "And what did he do to her?"

"We're just here to save her and Tyler." Faye said, holding her hands up.

Damon rushed over and hit him with the butt of the gun, knocking him unconscious, "You're lucky I already screwed up once today or you'd be dead." He crouched down, seeing the wooden bullets Matt had brought.

"Oh crap." Faye said, realizing what they were. "We'll deal with it late." She made her way towards the tomb. Damon got up and followed her.

Damon opened up the tomb door and they both entered. Caroline looked up from where she was chained with relief.

"Damon? Faye?" Caroline asked.

"We came to save the day!" Faye threw her hands up in the air with a grin, "Yay!"

"Your boyfriend's outside with a rifle loaded with wooden bullets." Damon told Caroline as he walked over to snap the chains, "You have some explaining to do."

Caroline's eyes widened, "What, Matt?"

"Matt knows about you?" Tyler asked and Faye finally noticed. He looked hotter than he did the last time to her. She shook her head slightly, knowing it was just her werewolf hormones.

"No, I..." Caroline was cut off by Damon.

"Shh. Tomorrow's problem." Damon said. He released her and she stood up, "Let me just get you out of here."

Faye shook her head, "Um, we're not leaving Tyler."

"Ohhh. It's getting dark soon." Damon said, looking at Tyler, "How fast can you get the hell away from here?"

"I need to get to my family's cellar. I can lock myself up." Tyler told them.

"I'll help." Caroline told him.

Faye sighed, "I can't, I need to help with the Klaus stuff." She walked over and helped Tyler out of the chains.

"Don't make me regret this." Damon said to Tyler before him and Caroline walked out. Faye grabbed Tyler's hand and helped him stand up.

"You okay?" Faye asked, concerned.

"I'm fine." Tyler replied, "I thought you hated me."

"I don't hate you, I was angry at you." Faye told him, "But I forgive you now,"

"Why?" Tyler questioned.

"Because I'm probably going to end up dead today, so I don't want to let go with any regrets." Faye told him, half smiling, "And plus, you were the first boy I ever had a crush on."

Tyler's eyes widened. When he heard that from Faye he didn't know what. She hadn't revealed that to anyone, not even Caroline. She had told Caroline that she didn't like Tyler, but overtime, she came to. That's why she was so upset after he just left them to die, because the first person she liked betrayed her.

But, she let that go and looked past it all. He was scared, nervous, and didn't know who he was supposed to help. The friends that lied to him or the werewolves who hurt his friends.

A part of Tyler liked her too. She was nice to him, even though she didn't know him in the beginning. She helped him get through one of the hardest nights of his life, no questions asked.

Tyler leaned down, capturing her lips in his. Faye was shocked, but slowly melted in to the kiss, kissing him back. She smiled as she had her first kiss with the first boy she had ever had a crush on.

"Why'd you do that?" Faye asked when he pulled away after a while.

"Because if this is going to be your last day, then I should tell you that I like you too." Tyler replied, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

Faye bit her lip, blushing madly, "We should probably go. The full moon will be up soon."

"Okay." Tyler said before they kissed one last time before they both left.

__

Caroline and Damon were outside of the tomb when Tyler and Faye got out. Caroline was looking down at Matt with shock.

"Hey." She whispered to Matt as he was waking up. Caroline looked at Damon, enraged, "Did you hit him?!"

"Did you already forget about the part with the gun and the wooden bullets?" Damon asked her.

Suddenly, Tyler let out a growl and his hand moved his chest. He looked at the moon while Faye showed concern towards him.

"Tyler? Tyler?" She asked worriedly.

"It's starting." Tyler told her.

Damon sighed, looking at Caroline, "Grab boy wonder and let's go."

"Come on." Caroline said to Matt as she helped him up and they all began to go towards the cellar.

__

"What's happening? Is he okay?" Matt asked as he watched Tyler groan in pain. Caroline and Faye were helping him walk as Damon guided them all.

"He better not wolf out on us." Damon muttered to them.

Faye's phone began blaring the horrible ringtone it had and she reached to answer it. She saw that it was Stefan.

"Bad time, Stefan." Faye said in to the phone.

"What the hell are you and Damon doing?" Stefan asked in an overprotective tone.

"Saving the day once again. We figured you'd understand." Faye told him, "Just tell Elena to stay put."

"She's already gone, Faye." Stefan replied and Damon stopped, turning to look at her. Faye bit her lip to keep herself from crying, seeing the Elena was one of her friends. She didn't want her to die.

"What?" She whispered out.

"Klaus came. He took her."

Faye looked at Damon and made a decision, "We'll take care of it." She hung up the phone, giving Stefan no time to protest.

Tyler suddenly fell to the floor, his transformation beginning.

"Tyler!" Matt yelled out for his friend as he yelled in pain.

"I don't know if I can hold it off." Tyler told them all, his bones beginning to break, "Get out of here."

"Tyler, it'll be okay." Faye said to him.

"Go!"

"You've got time. We're almost there, just..."

With teeth clenched together tightly, Tyler growled at Faye, "It's happening faster."

"Tyler, it's okay." Caroline said, setting him off.

Tyler's eyes flashed gold and he sped over towards Caroline. Damon interfered, throwing him away from the blonde. Tyler jumped on Damon, his jaws snapping at him. Damon pushed the werewolf away, his arm getting bitten in the process.

"Damon!" Faye yelled out, looking at him with wide eyes.

He got up, brushing it off, "I'm fine." Damon turned to Matt and Caroline, "Get to the Lockwood cellar. If it held him in, it'll keep him out. If it doesn't..." He held up the gun Matt had, "Use these." He tossed it to Matt, "It'll buy you a couple seconds. Go. Go!"

They all took off while Faye and Damon ran the other direction, going to stop Klaus.

__

"I've come here to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual." Damon said as him and Faye busted through the door to Alaric's apartment. Faye glared at Klaus.

"Didn't we already have this conversation?" Klaus asked, bored with it already.

"Yeah, but that was before we rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch." Faye told him.

Klaus got up, growling, "Excuse me?"

"And you can kill us for it. We don't care." Damon replied, "It was all us."

"Katerina, give us a moment." Klaus said to Katherine. She looked between the trio before leaving, not wanting to get in the middle of it all, "I've heard about you. The crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl. I knew one of you would try to stop me. It was a just a 50/50 guess on who."

Klaus then looked at Faye, "Then there's you, the strong one, the savior. You're the sweet, innocent one that everyone loves, but when you're set off, you become a killing machine." He smirked at her, "We're so much alike, don't you think?"

"I will never be like you." Faye sneered at the hybrid.

Klaus chuckled, "Oh, that's a shame isn't. We would be unstoppable." He sighed, grabbing his phone, "Oh, well. But, may I remind you that, werewolves, just like you Faye, tend to travel in packs. Need a closer look?" He tossed them his phone and Damon caught it.

On the screen was the bitch that Faye hated with a passion. The one who tortured her, the one she didn't get a chance to kill.

"Jules." Damon whispered, watching the woman cry out as she transformed.

"When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse, you learn a thing or two." Klaus told them, "First rule..." He held up his index finger, "Always have a back-up. Back-up werewolf. Back-up witch."

"Back-up vampire." Faye finished for him.

"I've got that covered, too." That was the last thing she heard before his hands wrapped around her neck and a sickening crack throughout the room. Faye fell to the ground, seeing nothing but darkness.

__

Faye woke up soon after Klaus had snapped her neck, seeing him nowhere in sight. Katherine was standing over Damon's body, dripping a blood bag into his mouth.

"Hey. Damon. Hey. Damon!" Katherine yeled and he shot up awake.

Faye looked around the room, "What the hell happened?"

"He's gone. He went to do the ritual." Katherine told Faye and Damon, "I'm sorry. I had to. He would have known that I was on vervain if I didn't do it."

"Ahh. Do what?" Damon said, getting up from his spot on the ground. He looked over at Faye, checking on her. She sent him a simple nod, standing up herself.

"Klaus. He made me call her to lure her out. He needed another vampire." Katherine answered his questions.

"Who did you call?" Damon asked her. She didn't answer and he grabbed her arm, "Who did you call, Katherine?"

"Jenna." Katherine whispered to them.

Damon let out a yell in frustration, "Should have used me. Why didn't he use me?"

"He couldn't. Damon, he said you were as good as dead." Katherine answered.

"What does that even mean?" Faye questioned, confused.

"What does that mean?" Katherine's eyes moved towards the bite on his arm. Faye finally noticed it, realizing what it was.

"What is this, Damon?" Katherine asked.

"It's a werewolf bite."

And Faye felt the world crashing down on her shoulders.
