THE TRUTH COMES OUT

I DO NOT OWN NARUTO

Just for those who want to know, the reason Naruto's room door is numbered "497" is because those numbers symbolize significant things in his life, in that order.

4 = 4th Hokage A.K.A his father

9 = Kyuubi

7 = Team 7

Congrats to KuroiOozora for being the closest to guessing it, and to kisacatdemon for actually getting it!

It was just a little random, completely loony thing that I just asked you because I noticed it in there and wondered if you would too.

Hope you enjoy~!

"What are you hiding?"

'Well sh-t,' was the first thing that came to mind, hearing Itachi's voice before his eyes opened. 'We're dead. And speaking of dead, Granny's gonna kill me. . . better get up right -'

This particular blonde's train of thought was quickly cut off when the hospital door was thrown open, killing intent flooding the room.

'FARQUAAD! ' Three kids thought, as one shot up in bed and two others dashed to his bedside. Sasuke sat down in the hospital chair, adopting a lazy sitting position as Sakura sat cross-legged in front of Naruto on his bed, both ignoring the fact that he had woken up and started a light-hearted conversation with him.

Itachi shuddered and shushined away. He did not want to be present when Tsunade was there. He would be back to question the brats later.

"NARUTOOO!"

"Farquaad," Naruto hissed to his internally-scared-stiff siblings before turning to his grandmother.

"Hey Granny. Whaddya want?" he asked lazily.

Tsunade's eye twitched.

She was barely restraining herself from hitting him. If it wasn't for his condition, he would be pummeled into next month within a heartbeat. Actually that wouldn't be a good idea, because she'd have to heal him again.

"What did you do to get yourself back in hospital this time?" Tsunade said in a low, dangerous tone.

"Well. . ." Naruto hesitated. "ASoundshinobimayormaynothaveusedmeasahumanshieldtoblockKe'sjutsuandthat'showIwounduphere," he said quickly in one breath.

(Translation: A Sound shinobi may or may not have used me as a human shield to block Ke's jutsu and that's how I wound up here)

Though he said it as quickly as possible, Tsunade could still understand him, and it made the killing intent rise up to ridiculous levels, nearly suffocating everyone in the entire building.

"H-Hokage-sama?" Sasuke gulped nervously.

Tsunade glared at him but lowered the killing intent. "What exactly was this jutsu, Sasuke?"

Sasuke sweated bullets. "U-Uhhh, i-it was a l-lightning jutsu, Hokage-sama."

Tsunade ground her teeth. "Sakura, I trust you managed to heal him properly?"

"Y-Yes ma'am!" Sakura nodded her head quickly.

"Eh, don't worry Baa-chan. Kurama's taking care of it. I'll be fine in about. . . two minutes," Naruto said, hearing his tenant's voice saying the estimated time for full recovery.

"Two minutes. You've been impaled with a lightning jutsu and you say you'll be fine in two minutes?!" Tsunade seethed.

'At least she's not yelling, that's a big improvement,' Naruto thought optimistically, hearing Kurama snort in amusement.

"Well, when you have the Nine-Tailed Fox inside of you, I think your healing process would go a lot faster than normal," Naruto said, subtly gauging her reaction.

Tsunade's eyes widened as she was rendered speechless. He knew about the Kyuubi?

"Well yeah, I've known about him since I was able to talk," Naruto said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Tsunade blinked. How did he. . .

"You're speaking out loud," Team 7 deadpanned simultaneously.

'Well that explains it,' Tsunade pursed her lips.

"And again."

"Would you please stop talking in unison?! It's getting very creepy," Tsunade groaned in exasperation.

Team 7 looked at each other.

"We'll try."

"Again!" Tsunade yelled in frustration.

"Should we stop talking?"

"Yes! I mean, no! I mean, ugh! You're just doing this to annoy me aren't you?" Tsunade glared accusingly at them.

"Mayyyybeeeeee," they replied cheekily.

"Anyway, I'm going to check on the other patients, just make sure Naruto doesn't do something stupid. And as for you young man," Tsunade gave the blonde a steely stare, "I will talk with you later."

She exited the room.

"Bye Granny/Hokage-sama!" they called. "We'll watch him/I won't do anything!"

"Shut up brats!" Tsunade yelled over her shoulder.

Team 7 looked at each other before bursting into fits of giggles.

"Alright enough giggling, I want an explanation and I want it now," a stern voice cut them from their fun.

"Itachi?" Naruto looked at him.

"He was eavesdropping on us that night before the Chuunin Exams," Sakura explained telepathically.

"Well isn't that just dandy," Naruto rolled his eyes.

"So?" Itachi looked at them pointedly.

"Right, well. . . come with us." Naruto hopped out of bed, ignoring Sasuke's and Sakura's wide-eyed, disbelieving looks.

"Hey, he could prove to be a useful ally. As well as the fact that we kind of owe it to him. . ." Naruto rubbed the back of his neck.

Itachi raised an eyebrow.

"Right, right, we owe to him how?" Sasuke raised an eyebrow.

"Uh. . . not here Ke. How about," Naruto leaned over and whispered in his ear. Sasuke hesitated before nodding.

"Itachi, let's go."

"Go where?"

"You'll see."

"Do I get any clues?"

Naruto paused on his way out the door, and both he and Sasuke answered at the same time.

"The place where the beginning ended and the end began."

Itachi raised an eyebrow. What were they talking about?

'Beginning. . . and the -' His eyes widened. 'How do they know about that place? '

《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》

"The Valley of the End," Itachi breathed, gazing almost awestruck at the towering statues of Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju.

"How do you know about this place?"

"Sit down, Itachi. This is going to take a very long time," Sasuke said seriously, patting the ground beside him.

Team 7 was already seated in a circle, with a space between Naruto and Sasuke.

"It is the story of our lives, after all," Naruto added.

Itachi said nothing, only sitting down in the space provided for him. He was curious, suspicious and confused as well as a number of other things.

"Let's start in the beginning," Naruto said, settling down comfortably.

"On the 10th of October, Kushina Uzumaki gave birth to a baby boy. His name was Naruto."

Itachi raised an eyebrow. What did this have to do with anything?

"His father Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, sealed the Nine-Tailed Beast inside his son, as to save the village from destruction. He gave him a burden he could not give to any other child, sacrificing his and his wife's life, giving Naruto the status of a jinchuuriki, and thus making him the target of those who were bitter because of that day."

Sasuke continued. "He was always getting beaten, picked on, and degraded. However he never stopped smiling. He was always playing pranks, just because he wanted attention. Be it negative or positive, he wanted attention instead of being ignored. Have you ever noticed, Itachi, that those without parents are always ignored?"

Itachi had actually noticed. This was partially the reason why Mikoto had decided to adopt Naruto.

"When he was twelve, he was tricked by Mizuki to steal the Forbidden Scroll, saying it was another way to pass the Genin Exams. Naruto learned the "Shadow Clone Jutsu" before his Academy sensei, Iruka Umino, got to him. He managed to defeat Mizuki, after learning his status as a jinchuuriki, earning him the right to become a Genin. The next day, he received his Genin team."

Sakura smiled fondly, remembering that day. "It was Team 7, consisting of Rookie of the Year Sasuke Uchiha, the Best Kunoichi Sakura Haruno and the Deadlast Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke was literally worshipped by the villagers as he was the "last Uchiha". His clan had been wiped out by his older brother when he was seven."

Itachi frowned upon hearing that. So it was true.

"The Uchiha clan had been planning a coup d'etat, and Itachi was ordered by Danzō, or more like blackmailed, into massacring his clan, save his little brother. He could not bear to kill him, because he loved him too much," Sakura said softly.

"Our Genin team sensei was Kakashi Hatake," Naruto continued. "He was three hours late, and Sasuke was just brooding, Sakura was fangirling -"

Sakura gagged disgustedly and both Itachi and Sasuke shuddered. The curse of the fangirls had come upon them both at one point.

"- and I was bored, so I made up a prank with a chalkboard eraser. I didn't expect him to fall for it, but he did. We did introductions soon after, and it was made very clear that we would not work well together."

Sakura blushed guiltily. "Yes, and then we took a bell test the next day. We failed the first part, since Sasuke was too arrogant and refused to work with us, and I was so obsessed with Sasuke that I didn't notice Naruto. And Naruto? He was really dumb and got himself caught in a trap," she deadpanned at the blonde who was chuckling.

"Eventually we passed because Sakura fed me part of her lunch, since I was tied up to a pole and my consequence was to not eat lunch," Naruto frowned. "The key to passing was teamwork, and we finally passed. We were officially Team 7."

"Our first C-rank mission was to Wave, similar to the one in this timeline. We fought the Demon Brothers, Kakashi was all dramatic pretending he died, and then Tazuna the bridge builder spilled the beans on why he ranked this mission "C" when it should've been "A". We helped out the village and killed Gatō. However, Zabuza the Demon of the Mist was killed, as well as his apprentice Haku, who had the Ice Release," Sasuke continued. "I activated my Sharingan at that mission."

"When we got back, we bumped into the Sand Siblings. That is, Temari, Kankuro and Gaara. Gaara was the One-Tails' jinchuuriki, and he was somewhat crazy and very bloodthirsty. During our first exam, which was a written test, Naruto didn't answer a single question, however he managed to inspire everyone in the room when he told them his ninja way, when they were about to give up because of the tenth question Ibiki threw at us," Sakura explained.

Itachi smiled slightly.

"In the second exam, which was in the Forest of Death, was quite a lot like our first exam in this timeline, however we couldn't kill Orochimaru as this was our first encounter with him, and we were merely Genin. He bit Sasuke's neck, marking him with the Curse Mark," Naruto shuddered. "He also sealed off Kurama, making his chakra inaccessible to me. We did eventually get to the Tower and pass the exam, however not without a lot of. . . life-threatening risks," Naruto looked pointedly at Sasuke.

"As we were going through the preliminary rounds, a genjutsu fell over everyone and the Sand and Sound invasion began. Sasuke and Naruto fought Gaara, who had unleashed his beast. The Third Hokage was killed by Orochimaru, so Jiraiya and Naruto went off to find Tsunade," Sakura internally growled at the thought of that pervert. "Itachi and Kisame, members of the Akatsuki, came for Naruto."

Sasuke interrupted. "The Akatsuki was an organization that was ultimately fighting for world peace, however once their leader and founder died, they eventually strayed off that peaceful path and started to get violent, capturing jinchuuriki to create "world peace"."

Sakura coughed. "Yes, well Itachi and Sasuke fought somewhat, and Sasuke fell under the genjutsu of the Itachi's Mangekyō. Naruto and Jiraiya eventually brought her back, after Naruto learned the Rasengan and won Tsunade's Hokage necklace."

Naruto grinned. "Yeah, and she became the Fifth Hokage! Sasuke woke up in hospital and being the arrogant emo bastard he was, challenged me. During the six months that we got to train for the battles in the Chuunin Exams, Sasuke learned the Chidori from Kakashi. This was our first clash of Chidori vs. Rasengan."

"Some time later, actually I can't remember when. . . you know what this is taking so long I can't actually be stuffed explaining. It's been what, an hour and we've only talked about Team 7!" Sasuke threw up his hands in frustration. "Can I just use the Mangekyō on him already?!"

"Ke, you still need to recover from using it on Gaara," Sakura frowned at him. "It's been what, only half a day since you used it. As well as the fact that you recklessly used your Susanoo and Amateratsu! No, I forbid you from using it for at least a week!"

Sasuke grumbled under his breath.

"Well anyways, sometime later Sasuke went with the Sound Four to Orochimaru. Sakura tried to make him stay, even. . ." Naruto gagged slightly, "confessing her love to him as she was still a fangirl at that time. Anyway, Sasuke thanked her sincerely for everything she had done before knocking her unconscious. Shikamaru Nara, Kiba Inuzuka, Choji Akimichi, Neji Hyuuga and I formed a five-man squad to go after him," Naruto glared at the ground. "The Sand Siblings eventually joined the fight, but we still lost him."

"We battled here, at the Valley of End," Sasuke gestured in their area, his eyes softening at Naruto's clenched fists. "It was our final clash as twelve-year-olds, and we used our Curse Mark or Kyuubi Chakra Cloak. Our clash was, once again, Chidori vs. Rasengan. Naruto maneuvered his Rasengan away, however my hand. . . it was just like the invasion."

Itachi nodded understandingly. It was probably too painful for him to say again what had happened there, even if it was in the past.

"Thankfully Naruto survived, and he went to train with Jiraiya, vowing he would bring me back. He also kept my forehead protector," Sasuke bumped the blonde's shoulder playfully and got a grin in return.

"Three years passed, and we all changed. Sakura trained with Tsunade as a medic and scary taijutsu user, I trained with Jiraiya and Sasuke trained with Orochimaru," Naruto continued. "At one point, the war started. Madara Uchiha was reanimated by Kabuto Yakushi. The four past Hokage, Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi and Minato Namikaze were reanimated by Orochimaru, who did so because Sasuke wanted to ask them something."

"I finally found what it means to be a shinobi," Sasuke said softly. "And I decided to protect the village instead of destroy it. A reanimated Itachi also explained to me why he massacred the clan, clearing my point of view."

"That war. . . it was why we even decided to come back," Naruto frowned. "Almost everyone died, and we decided to rewrite the past, to change the future so it would be a better, more peaceful one. Our future's downfall began when Team Minato went on a mission during their war, and Obito was "killed". That was the time we went back to, and that's when Team 7's personal mission began."

"And until now, the only people who know is Team Minato, Gaara and now you." Sakura looked sternly at him. "Do not breathe a word of this, or you will most certainly regret it. Are we clear on that?"

Itachi nodded. "You can trust me."

"Good. Next week Sasuke will restore your memory for you, and hopefully that means that you can help us change what is to come," Naruto explained.

"Because if you ignore the past, you jeopardize the future," Team 7 harmonized.

Itachi nodded. "Good reasoning. But uh, Sasuke's already restored my memory."

"Eh?!" they all yelled.

"Sasuke I told you not to use your Mangekyō! I verbally forbade it, do you want me to physically restrain you?!" Sakura berated.

"Um actually, he restored it in the hospital," Itachi explained.

"Wha?" Naruto's forehead creased.

"While you were still in your temporary coma, I asked them what they were hiding. These two immediately had me pinned and trapped against the wall, and Sasuke activated his eyes. I think he did it almost subconsciously, but nevertheless he did so and restored my memory."

"Then what was the point of explaining our past to you?!"

"Well. . ." Itachi looked sheepish. "I wanted to know if it was a genjutsu or the real thing, but now I am most definitely certain it's real."

"No Sugar Honey Iced Tea," they deadpanned.

"Could you please stop speaking in unison?" Itachi twitched. "It's creepy and getting on my nerves."

"Huh, Granny/Hokage-sama said that too."

Itachi glared at the kids who suddenly adopted the guise of "Innocent Little Child".

"Right, well moving on. I will help you with your "mission" as much as I can. And I will pretend to be clueless to what you three are up to, as our father already knows I'm frustrated with you and will probably ask me why I'm not anymore."

Sasuke chuckled. "You, the stoic Uchiha prodigy, frustrated with three five-year-olds?"

Itachi gave him a look. "You are the Uchiha prodigy now. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if people start wondering how you got so strong. You three killed Orochimaru, found out about Danzō, stopped the Sound and Sand Invasion and passed the Genin exams without entering the Academy. While you are FIVE!"

"Actually, Kura's six," Naruto corrected. "Her birthday's was last week on the 28th of March."

"And next week I'm going to be six," Sasuke stated almost proudly.

Itachi froze. Crap, he had forgotten his brother's birthday! Well he still has a week left. . .

"So technically, we're not too young."

Itachi deadpanned at them. "Five, six, either way you're still too young. If you were at least ten it would be slightly understandable."

"True," Sakura tapped her chin almost thoughtfully.

"Well what can we do about it, it's in the past and we can't possibly re-do that and what's the point of doing that anyway? It's done and dusted," Naruto dusted off his hands, which Sasuke and Sakura knew was his way of signifying that his decision was final.

"Right well how about we get back? It's getting dark and Mom is expecting us for dinner," Itachi looked up at the sky.

"That. . . is a very good idea," Sasuke complied.

"Race you there?" Naruto said hopefully, making his blue eyes go wide so much that Sakura inwardly squealed.

Itachi rubbed his forehead tiredly. "Sure. . . I guess."

"Just a heads' up," Sakura piped up, "in their time, Sasuke and Naruto were known as the fastest shinobi alive."

Itachi groaned internally. What had he gotten himself into?

"Ready in 3. . . 2. . . 1~! GO!" Sakura yelled before latching onto Naruto's back and the blonde and raven shot off in a blur, leaving a large cloud of dust behind them.

"They're. . . quite dumb," Itachi sweatdropped. "They do realize I will win the race by simply shushining there, right?"

And with that, the older Uchiha flickered out of sight.

《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》

"Itachi sure is taking his time," Naruto tapped his foot impatiently.

He and his siblings were at the Uchiha house door, waiting. Sakura already shushined herself back to her own home, and the two brothers were quickly growing impatient.

"You know what, I'm getting hungry. Let's just go in and wait for him there," Sasuke suggested.

Naruto sighed. "Sure."

They entered the house and, seeing that no one was around to spot them, quickly made their way to the dining room.

The sound of someone clearing their throat stopped them in their tracks.

"D-Dad. . ."

"Care to explain why you suddenly went missing from the hospital, son?" Fugaku raised an eyebrow.

"U-Uh. . . we had to discuss something with Itachi-nii. . . believe it!" Naruto babbled nervously.

"What was that? " Sasuke raised an eyebrow at his brother.

"I really have no idea. . . oh wait. It's my mom's catchphrase. Damnit it came back again! Just when I thought I was done with it too! "

Fugaku sighed internally. 'There's that catchphrase. I knew it would come out sooner or later. Just like his mother. . .'

"Go and clean up, boys. Then come down to dinner. We've been waiting for you," the Uchiha clan head ordered with a small smile on his face as both of his sons' stomachs growled hungrily.

"Yes Dad!" the boys chorused before dashing upstairs, accidentally letting their true speed show momentarily.

Fugaku blinked. He could've sworn he saw Naruto use the Fourth's signature technique. Sasuke too. . . or was it just speed? He shrugged dismissively before going off to satisfy his own hunger.

Not five minutes later, Naruto and Sasuke appeared, sitting down in their seats as they eyed their mother's stew hungrily.

Mikoto laughed as she gently set down two bowls of stew before her ever-hungry boys, and sat down before her own portion.

There was a poof in the dining room and everyone in the room turned around to see Itachi standing there, shock written across his face.

"How. . . what. . . when. . ."

Naruto grinned. "You're getting slow, Itachi."

Itachi's eye twitched irritably, resisting the urge to strangle his younger brother. He was not getting slow, they were just too fast! Insanely fast!

Sasuke and Naruto started whispering conspiratorially.

"What are you whispering about?" Itachi said warily, taking a seat between his father and brother.

"Oh, just a little debate over the lyrics typical childhood song," Sasuke replied airily. "Can you guess which one?"

Itachi quirked an eyebrow, Fugaku lowered his newspaper slightly and Mikoto leaned forward with a smile.

The two smirked devilishly.

"Twinkle twinkle little star," Naruto began.

"I want to hit you with a car! " Sasuke intervened with a smirk.

"Maybe jump off a cliff so high -" Naruto was abruptly cut off when the window in the dining room smashed and a pink-haired girl came into the room.

"SO YOU CAN BREAK YOUR NECK AND DIE! " the three children screamed before breaking into fits of giggles.

Itachi banged his head on the table, Fugaku grunted in amusement and Mikoto sighed, shaking her head with a smile.

"Sakura, you owe me a window," Mikoto chided gently as she picked up her boys' bowls to wash.

"Yes Aunt Mikoto," she replied sweetly.

"Why are you even here, Sakura? Shouldn't you be home?"

"Ah, the boys and I have something to talk about. Ruto, shall we go to your room?" Sakura sent them a pointed look.

"Sure," the blonde shrugged, before both he and Sasuke hopped off their chairs and leading Sakura up the stairs.

"What's up, Kura?" Sasuke asked, sitting cross-legged on his double bed.

"What is left to fix?" Sakura said with a serious look on her face.

"What are you talking about?" Naruto frowned.

"Think about it. We've stopped Obito from going to darkness, we've killed Orochimaru and Danzo, given Gaara his memory back so he's not a crazy bloodthirsty boy, so what other major error is there left to fix?"

Naruto thought hard. "There's the Fourth Shinobi War. . . what about the other jinchuuriki? What about uniting the nations? And there's Kaguya too."

Sakura leaned forward, pink hair falling over her shoulder. "That can come later. Right now, all the essential things that we prioritized are done. Don't you think we can start being normal children now? Enjoy our childhood?"

Sasuke sighed. "Sakura, we can enjoy our childhood while it lasts, the peace that comes with it, but you know we have to keep our guard up. Yes we have accomplished and changed many things, but that doesn't mean we can kick back and relax. What if the same thing that happened to the Uchiha happens to another clan? What if say, the Hyuuga got massacred instead? What if we changed so much that something even worse happens?"

"Changing the past has the risks, and we knew it when we started," Naruto said thoughtfully. "But I agree with Kura. We have no other immediate enemy. Orochimaru and Danzo are out of our way, and so is Obito."

"What is left to fix?" the three said quietly in unison, each racking their brains for something that they might've overlooked.

《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》《》

In the middle of the night, in the Uchiha head's house, everything was dark and quiet. Upstairs, in the third door to the right, two young boys were sleeping.

Suddenly, one jackknifed up in bed, covered in a thin layer of sweat, panting.

'SH-T! '

"Ruto?" The other boy dragged himself up, rubbing sleep from his eyes. "What's wrong?"

Naruto turned to his brother with wide eyes, and spoke four words that made Sasuke wake up immediately, sending chills down his spine.

"They're still out there."

So? How is it? I was really racking my brains for something that they still needed to defeat, but I came up with nothing. Can you guys help me? I've got a total mind-blank at the moment. . .

Anyways, until next time!
