You gave me a heart attack

*Eugene's POV*
I paced back and forth around my cell. I hardly slept last night. All I could think about was Rapunzel and my sentence. I knew she wasn't safe, but did the others? Did Jack and the gang save her? Am I going to die? Is Rapunzel dead? I circulated these thoughts through my mind over and over again. I looked out the window, gripping the metal bars. I turned my head around quickly as I heard my door squeak open. I saw the captain and two guards standing there. "Let's get this over with, Rider." The captain grumbled.

"Where are we going?" I questioned, not loosening my grip on the bars. None of them said anything. One of the guards looked down cast. I knew what I had coming. Immediately, I felt my heart drop. "Oh." I replied as I felt my hand around my neck.

*Rapunzel's POV*
I woke up feeling depressed. How could Eugene leave me with those hooligans? They told me that he traded me for a crown. I'm sticking with my gut, that it's not real, that Eugene would never do that to me, but my head thinks otherwise. I saw him on the boat, floating back towards the kingdom. But what is the truth!? My hair was still braided and I wanted it out. It reminded me of Eugene and my friends. "Mother." I called.

"Yes Flower." Mother answered. I stood in my doorway, messing with my curtains. I rubbed them between my fingers, feeling how soft they were. They reminded me of my bedsheets at BYA. I wish I could back in time.

"Can you take out my hair?" I questioned. I heard a loud clatter and got nervous. Usually Mother was more careful than that. "You okay?" I asked.

"Yes, just fine. I'm coming." Mother swatted as she walked up the stairs. She pushed me towards the bed. We sat on my bed for a good fifteen minutes undoing my hair. I watched as she gently plucked the flowers out of my long hair, letting them float into the basket. They reminded me of the lanterns.

"There. It never happened," Mother stated as she plucked the last flower out of my hair. She tossed it into the basket filled with the rest. She stood up and walked towards the door. "Now, wash up for dinner. I'm making hazelnut soup." Mother smiled, trying to cheer me up. But it didn't work. I couldn't look at her. I just felt awful. The thought of him leaving me, the picture still movie in slow motion in my mind.

"I really did try, Rapunzel. I tried to warn you what was out there. The world is dark and selfish and cruel. If it finds even the slightest ray of sunshine, it destroys it." She spat as she slammed my curtains shut. Why was she always right?

I looked towards my door, making sure that she wasn't there. I heard her footsteps wander down the stairs. I gently opened my hands to get a glimpse of the beautifully woven handkerchief Eugene bought me. I stared at the pattern on it. The symbol of a sun. If sunshine was a symbol of happiness, then why did I feel so miserable when I looked at it?

Pascal climbed by side, trying to comfort me. I feel back onto my bed, still feeling heartbroken. I let out a deep sigh, trying to let out all of my pain. I looked up at the ceiling, noticing all of my creations. But one stood out to me. It looked somewhat like the sun on my handkerchief. I held up my handkerchief next to it, examining it. No way, this can't be the same sun. I looked again, and again. The more I looked, the more I saw the sun in my painting. Suddenly it was bright, like I should have noticed it before. I looked around and found them everywhere, in every painting.

It all made sense. I remembered my mobile and a blurry couple looking over me, which led me to the town painting of the royal family. The King and Queen looked exactly like the couple in my vision. And the baby had my same green eyes and golden hair. I was the baby. I was the lost princess! I felt my knees buckle as my head began to pound. I lost my balance, flying onto my dresser, making a loud noise as everything fell over. I was in shock.

*Eugene's POV*
I walked peacefully with the castle guards, accepting my fate. The two rookies held a loose grip on me because I was in handcuffs, hands behind my back. I thought about Rapunzel when something caught my eye. The Stabbington Brothers. Anger ran through my veins. I smashed my body against the guard on my left, then I banged my head against the other one. I jumped up and slipped my hands under my feet. I ran to cell and pulled the closest one to me, smashing his face against the cell. "How did you know about her? Tell me, now!" I demanded.

"It wasn't us! It was the old lady!" He stammered. I looked at the sincerity plastered on his face. He looked frightened, surprised by my sudden outburst. I've never yelled at them before.

"Old lady?" I questioned. Her mother! Suddenly the guards pulled me away. "Wait! No! Wait! You don't understand! She's in trouble! Wait!" I shouted as they dragged me away from the cell. I had to get to her.

*Rapunzel's POV*
"Rapunzel? Rapunzel, what's going on up there?" Mother asked as she climbed the stairs. I couldn't catch my breath. I'm trapped in here with a monster. This was the monster that kidnapped me and took me away from my real family. I walked out, knowing I had to face her. "Are you alright?" She asked.

"I'm the lost princess." I whispered, afraid to admit it out loud. I tightly gripped the curtains, afraid of what she would do to me. This wasn't my mother. No! She was nothing close.

"Please speak up, Rapunzel. You know how I hate the mumbling." She scolded. A scowl was plastered on her face. Suddenly, I felt the urge to just shout at her.

"I am the lost princess. Aren't I?" I stated confidently. Her face went into total shock, giving me proof that I was right. "Did I mumble, Mother? Or should I even call you that?" I questioned. I tightened my jaw, anger beginning to boil inside me.

"Oh, Rapunzel, do you even hear yourself? Why would you ask such a ridiculous question?" Mother questioned, trying to play it off. She walked toward me, trying to give me comfort.

"It was you! It was all you!" I shouted as I pushed her away. Why would she do this to me? My parents couldn't have anything to her.

"Everything I did was to protect you," Mother snapped, answering my unasked questioned. I looked her over, making me feel disgusted. I scoffed as I pushed her out of my way to get downstairs. "Rapunzel!" Mother scolded.

"I've spent my entire life, hiding from people who would use me for my power..." I rambled.

"Rapunzel!" Mother yelled.

"...when I should have been hiding from you!" I finished as I turned around to face my 'mother.' She was no mother to me. She was the devil.

"Where will you go? He wouldn't be there for you." Mother replied. What on earth did she mean?

"What did you do to him?" I asked nervously.

"That criminal is to be hanged for his crimes." Mother answered. What? Nonono. He didn't deserve to die. Eugene couldn't die.

"No." I cried, staring at the ground. Mother quickly ran over to comfort me.

"Now, now, it's alright. Listen to me. All of this is as it should be." She replied as she lifted her hand to pat my head. No. She would never touch me again. She was nothing to me.

"No! You were wrong about the world. And you were wrong about me! And I will never let you use my hair again!" I shouted as I grabbed her wrist and twisted it away from me. She struggled to free it, only to fall against the mirror, shattering it across the floor. I looked at her and rounded the corner.

"You want me to be the bad guy? Fine, now I'm the bad guy." Mother grumbled under her breath. She grabbed a hold of me and tied a gag around my mouth. I tried to squirm away, but she was too strong. She tied my hands up with metal chains. She hooked me up against the wall while she packed up her belongings. I was using all my might to break lose. I was trying and trying, but it was no use. I felt someone touch me. I turned and saw all of my friends, tied in black sand, unable to move.

"And you thought she was your mother for seventeen years," Pitch chuckled. "Told you someone would die." He laughed as he tighten Jack's chains, making him cry out in pain. Will someone save us?

*Eugene's POV*
I panted as I ran as fast as I could into the middle of the castle. Thousands and thousands of guards were piling in left and right. I looked around, not sure were to go. Suddenly two hands threw me to the side. "Head down." Hooked hand man said.

"Head down." I repeated as I followed the instructions. He was my only hope now. Which in all honesty was a huge coincidence since they hated my guys back at the pub.

"Arms in." He continued, looking at me.

"Arms in." I replied as I pulled my arms tight to my side.

"Knees apart." He finished.

"Knees apart. Wait, knees apart?" I questioned as I followed the instructions. That didn't make any sense. "Why do I need to keep my knees apart..." Suddenly I was flying high in the air, screaming at the top of my lungs. I felt myself do a little flip and land. I panted as I opened my eyes. I heard a horse and saw Max.

"Max! You brought them here?" I asked. He looked at me happily. "Thank you." I said. He turned his head as if to say it was time to go. But I really felt thankful for him. "No, really. Thank you. I feel maybe this whole time, we've just been misunderstanding one another and we're really just..." I rambled as I looked at an annoyed horse. "Yeah, you're right. We should go."

Suddenly, the door behind us banged open. Guards came out, shooting arrows at us. To our right, more guards ran after us. There was no escape, but Max kept running. "Max?" I questioned. He didn't slow down. "Max!" I said as the guards got in front of us. "Max!" I yelled as he ran through the guards and jumped off the castle. I screamed at the top of my lungs, thinking I was going to die.

We landed on a roof and slid down, making the shingles fly everywhere. We jumped onto the ground, Max still running, not caring about anyone or anything. I turned around to make sure no one was following us. "Okay, Max. Let's see how fast you can run." I said, determined to get to the tower. Max neighed loudly and picked up speed. We hopped over the first tree we saw yesterday. We ran down the paths, taking sharp turns. We ran through the vines, eventually to Rapunzel's tower.

*Third Person POV*
Eugene jumped off of Max, landing hard on the ground. He ran towards the tower. "Rapunzel? Rapunzel, let down your hair!" Eugene yelled. While inside, Pitch and Gothel were confused.

"How is he still alive?" Pitch grumbled as he came back from the window.

"I'm throwing down the hair. Stay in the shadows. I have a plan." Gothel grumbled. Then she tied Rapunzel up in the light, making her the only thing Eugene would see. Eugene waited two seconds before starting to climb the tower. He knew that if she didn't throw down her hair, she wasn't safe. He heard the window creak open. His eyes  shot up, watching her beautiful, golden hair sail to the ground. He quickly grabbed a hold of it can climbed as fast as he could.

"Rapunzel, I thought I'd never see you again." He panted as he came into the tower. Eugene looked up and saw her chained against the wall. "Huh?" She had a gag in her mouth, stoping her from saying anything. She tried to warn him but he stood there confused then felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He fell to the ground groaning in pain.

"Now look what you've done, Rapunzel." Her mother grumbled as he heard Rapunzel cry out. "Oh, don't worry, dear. Our secret will die with him." She grumbled as she walked over him. He rolled into a ball, trying to stop the pain. "And as for us...we are going where no one will ever find up you again." Her mother commanded as she untied Rapunzel and dragged her towards the door.

Rapunzel tried and tried to get away. Suddenly, a little green reptile ran to Gothel. He bit onto her dress, trying to stop her. She gasped in horror and kicked him away. "Rapunzel, really! Enough already! Stop fighting me!" Gothel yelled as she pulled Rapunzel closer and closer to the door. Soon, she couldn't hold on.

"No! I won't stop!" Rapunzel gasped as her gag fell off her mouth and hung around her neck. "For every minute of the rest of my life, I will fight! I will never stop trying to get away from you!" Rapunzel panted. "But if you let me save him, I will go with you."

"No! No Rapunzel!" Eugene cried out as he tried to crawl towards her. He used one of his hands to crawl, while keeping the other on his wound. The friends on the sidelines watched in horror. They couldn't do anything.

"I'll never run. I'll never try to escape. Just let me heal him and you and I will be together, forever just like you want. Everything will be the way it was. I promise. Just like you want." Rapunzel continued, ignoring Eugene's protests. Their friends tried to yell at Rapunzel to stop. They knew that she always keeps her promises. "Just let me heal him." Rapunzel begged. Mother Gothel looked her over and knew that she would keep her promise.

"Alright, then." Gothel grumbled. She quickly untied Rapunzel and tied it on one of Eugene's hands. She tied him around the stair railing. "In case you get any ideas about following us." She grumbled as she let his hand fall onto his wound.

"Eugene!" Rapunzel cried as she crawled to him. He coughed and groaned in pain. Rapunzel lifted his vest to see the wound. It had already bled through his white shirt and almost through his vest. "Oh, I'm so sorry. Everything is going to be okay, though."

"No Rapunzel." Eugene refused as he pushed her hair away. Their friends were silent on the sidelines. What was going to happen to Eugene and Rapunzel? What was going to happen to them?

"I promise. You have to trust me. Come on. Just breathe." Rapunzel cried. He had to let her heal him. He just had to! She couldn't live with herself if she let him die.

"I can't let you do this." Eugene grumbled. He wouldn't let this happen. He couldn't let her be taken away and hidden. She was meant to explore this earth, not be hidden from it.

"And I can't let you die." Rapunzel softly whispered. He was all she cared about.

"But if you do this... Then you will die." Eugene cried out, trying to finish as Rapunzel comforted him.

"Hey. It's going to be alright." Rapunzel assured, looking into his brown eyes. Eugene looked back into her green eyes and knew it wouldn't be alright. He felt a glass shard and grabbed it. He was silent for a few seconds, so she took that as a sign to start singing.

"Rapunzel. Wait." Eugene weakly requested as he reached up to push her hair back like he always did. He leaned in close and Rapunzel thought that he was going to kiss her. But he didn't. She heard the sound of glass cutting her hair. She felt a weight being lifted from her head. Eugene's hand clattered to the floor as he used the last of his strength to cut her hair. The glass shard clanked on the ground.

"Eugene..." Rapunzel gasped as her hand went to her hair. The friends all cried out, trying to get loose from their shackles. What was he doing?

"No!" Mother Gothel cried. Rapunzel lifter her hair and watched it turn dark brown. Gothel grabbed the hair and wrapped it around her self, trying to stop the deadly brown from reaching the healthy, golden locks. "What have you done? What have you done?" She exclaimed as she turned old.

She looked at herself in the mirror and gasped. She hated to see herself old and ugly. She wrapped her cloak around her head and wandered backwards. Pascal noticed a pile of hair. He quickly grabbed onto the hair and pulled it tight. Mother Gothel tripped on the hair and fell backwards out the window.

They heard her scream as she fell. Suddenly, it stopped. Then they heard the cloak hit the ground. The chains on their friends fell onto the floor, making them free. They untie their gags, gasping in the corner, giving Rapunzel and Eugene their space. Rapunzel panted, trying to understand what happened. Then she remembered Eugene.

"No, no, no. Eugene." Rapunzel cried as she pulled him on top of her lap. He coughed, looking paler than before. "No! Look at me. I'm right." Rapunzel cried as she traced his face. "Don't go. Stay with me, Eugene." Rapunzel demanded as she pulled his hand to her head. "Flower gleam and glow..." Rapunzel desperately sang.

"Rapunzel." Eugene softly whispered. She just had to stop.

"...Let your power shine...." Rapunzel sang over him. Tears begin to fill in her eyes. She choked on her feelings, trying to sign her song.

"Hey." Eugene stated, trying to get her attention. He couldn't stand watching her. She was trying so hard, but it would never work.

"...Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine." Rapunzel frantically sang.

"Rapunzel." Eugene softly yelled with all he had left as he pulled her head to look at him. He had to tell her how he felt.

"What?" Rapunzel gasped, trying to hold back the tears.

"You were my new dream." He weakly whispered. Rapunzel gasped, trying to hold back the tears threatening to spill over. She had to be strong for him.

"And you were mine." She cried, holding onto his hand. A faint smile appeared on his face. Then left as he fell into Rapunzel's arms. His head became heavy and he loosened his grip on Rapunzel's hand. Everyone knew he died. Rapunzel looked at him, the tears almost out. She laid his hand down on the ground and cupped his face gently in her hand. Then she did the first thing that came to mind.

"Heal what has been hurt. Change the fates' design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine." She sang as she brought her face closer to his. She let her hand travel down his face and onto his chest. She could hardly sing the last phrase. "What once was mine." She cried, looking longingly at his face as she laid her forehead onto his. Then she let out her sorrow.

She cried, seeing a tear fall onto his colorless cheek. Her friends came closer, to comfort her but she didn't notice. All she could think about was her dead lover, laying on her lap. She would never hear his beautiful laugh or his playful teases again. Suddenly, a bright light brought her up from Eugene's face. The light came from his wound, filling up the room. It was so bright and beautiful. It gave the room a warm feeling, even though there shouldn't be. She watched it dance around her and her friends. She looked and a flower pattern glow from Eugene. As quick as the light came, it left. She noticed the blood was gone. Is he alive? She pushed back her now brown hair and looked at Eugene. His eyes fluttered open.

"Rapunzel?" He questioned, making her gasp.

"Eugene?"

"Did I ever tell you I've got a thing for brunettes?" He flirted.

"Eugene!" She laughed and jumped onto Eugene, bringing him into a hug. He brought her in tight. Then tighter, never wanting to let go. They pulled apart and smiled at each other. Rapunzel giggled and pulled his collar in so they could kiss. Eugene was surprised at first, but fell in sync. They shared a long, passionate kiss. Then looked around at their friends, seeing their faces streaming with tears.

"You gave me a heart attack." Anna cried as she wiped away her tears. She had felt awful that he died and now he was living again. God he was playing with their emotions.

"You got a heart attack? I had a heart attack!" Rapunzel laughed as she wiped away her happy tears.

"At least you didn't die." Eugene chuckled.

"You're going to use that against us for everything now, right?" Jack teased. Jack rolled his eyes. He had died and came back to life... Sort of.

"Definitely." Eugene chuckled.

"Eugene, you were right. I'm the lost princess!" Rapunzel laughed.

"Then we should get you back to your parents." Eugene replied. They stood up and Eugene tumbled back to the ground. "Guess I haven't got my strength back yet."

"Well, you did just die." Merida stated, giving him an unimpressed glare.

"And get stabbed." Hiccup added, shrugging his shoulders.

"And you're still chained up." Elsa softly giggled.

"Yeah, I guess we should fix that." Eugene chuckled. Kristoff quickly grabbed the key and handed it to Rapunzel. She unlocked it and set him free.

"There, that's much better." Rapunzel giggled, patting his now free arm.

"I still can't believe you died." Kristoff mumbled.

"I told you I would die." Eugene smiled.

"Eugene!" Rapunzel scolded as she lightly slapped him.

"Hey. I'm injured." Eugene teased.

"Let's get out of here. It's really creepy." Elsa stated, moving closer to Jack. Kristoff and Jack helped Eugene walk down the tower and to Max.

"Max?" Everyone questioned. He happily ran to Eugene and licked him.

"Max helped free me." Eugene chuckled. The boys helped Eugene get onto Max and they walked to the kingdom. The guards came to arrest Eugene, running towards him. Rapunzel quickly got in the way.

"He saved the lost princess." Rapunzel declared.

"And who would that be?" One of them questioned.

"Me." Rapunzel replied as she stood up straight. They looked her over and noticed how similar she looked to the Queen. One of them led the group to the balcony and the other ran to tell the King and Queen.

*Rapunzel's POV*
I stood looking over the kingdom, holding Eugene's hand. The rest of our friends stood against the wall, watching. What if they don't believe us? Suddenly, a door gently opened. We turned around and saw the King and Queen, standing in the doorway. I stood there, looking at my parents. The Queen walked forward slowly. I walked forward, going to meet her. We were an arms length away.

She hesitantly reached her arm out and touched my face. I stood still, unsure of what to do. She let out a happy sigh and smiled, tears forming in her eyes. I did the same, leaning my head against her loving hand. We pulled each other in for a hug. She reached her hand up and ran her hand down my hair.

I looked up, tears in my eyes and saw the King. He happily chuckled with tears in his eyes and joined in on our hug. We fell to the ground. It felt so good to be loved. I felt my mom pull her hand out. Suddenly she yanked it back, pulling someone with. I opened my eyes and saw Eugene in the middle of our hug. He was hugging me from the back. Our family.

Soon, we let go and I introduced them to our friends. "Mom, Dad, these are your nieces Anna and Elsa." I smiled.

"You girls are beautiful. Did you help bring our daughter back?" Mom sighed.

"Well, Eugene did most of it, but we kinda did." Anna rambled. Mom and Dad laughed. "You're just like my sister." Mom laughed. Elsa stood straight, watching on the sides.

"And you're just like your father. All formal. Have a little fun every once in a while." Dad chuckled to Elsa. Soon as they met everyone, I remembered that they couldn't see Jack.

"Okay, now this is going to sound crazy but I need you to believe in Jack Frost." I said.

"Okay?" They questioned. Soon, they gasped in fear. "Where do you come from?" They gasped.

"That's not important. What's important is that your daughter is home." Jack smiled.

"And that Eugene is alive." Rapunzel smiled.

"Thank you for bringing back my daughter." The King chuckled as he hugged Eugene again.

"This calls for a celebration!" The Queen cheered. We had a party that lasted an entire week. I remember almost all of it. We sent Anna and Elsa's parents a letter explaining what happened. Soon, everyone left and I was home with my Eugene, in our new happy life together.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this book. It's finally completed. I'm thinking about making a squeal but it won't be as long as this one. I absolutely love the song I put up above. It reminds me so much of Eugene and Rapunzel's relationship in the movie! Eek! I just really wanted to share this with you.
