border towns
Geography and Nature
General
Border towns are found where the borders of three or more kingdoms meet. They're recognisable as small towns with no affiliation to any kingdoms. Therefore, they are considered lawless and dangerous places.
Landscapes
The landscapes of each border town reflect those of the Kingdoms around them. Though some will try to stray away from the association of any kingdom through aesthetics and introduced flora and fauna.
Climate/Weather
The surrounding Kingdoms tend to define what kind of weather a border town experiences. This cannot be altered with aesthetics, though, some powerful border town leaders may use magic to deter bad weather. For example, if the town resides at the border of the Winter Kingdom it will be more receptive to snow. Storms are common among most due to the conflicting climates.
Flora
Plants in border towns are influenced by the Kingdoms around them. Some plants are introduced for aesthetic purposes, while others may be brought in for magical and/or business-related reasons. There are some botanical businesses with greenhouses that specialise in magical plants - typically poisonous and can be grown to order.
Fauna
Animals and wildlife are influenced by surrounding kingdoms. Others are introduced through businesses. Wolves and other large dogs are seen used as guard dogs. Birds, like ravens and crows, are used to send messages. The leaders will typically have an animal that becomes their symbol. Common ones are snakes and cats, or something exotic from neighbouring kingdoms.
Population and Politics
General
Border towns are known as lawless lands for outlaws, criminals and runaways. They do not reflect or uphold any kingdom values. They're hotspots for shady businesses, and they don't ask questions unless deemed necessary by border town leaders.
History and Conflicts
Border towns didn't always exist. During early wars people needed an escape - a refuge. They built small towns and villages between the borders of warring Kingdoms. Most were small enough to be overlooked or simply considered a waste of a fight. Overtime, as conflicts between kingdoms lessoned, border towns became the perfect hideout for criminals and those wanting to get away from strict traditions.
Economics and Resources
Border towns are self-sufficient. Kingdoms won't trade with them but luckily they're full of people trained to hide in the shadows, to hunt, and to steal. While most towns can survive off farms and nearby forests and rivers, their extravagant resources are stolen goods from neighbouring kingdoms. With a plethora of markets, businesses and people constantly travelling through they can be rather rich towns. A lot of the money goes through or ends up in the hands of border town leaders.
Hierarchy
Most border towns have a lack of hierarchy, class and status. People go there to escape, work, and find themselves. Anyone can do anything. Well, almost. While there's no laws enforcing class division there are unofficial leaders to keep things in check. Unlike royalty they aren't chosen because of their bloodline - they're chosen when they prove themselves. The type of proof needed is different for each border town. But most leaders have businesses that allow themself to watch over money, jobs, trade, and strangers. There are the occasional attacks and distaste toward leaders but most respect their position and protection. If a whole town rally's against a leader, then it might be time for a new one.
Ovisia's Bar
General
Ovisia is the crime boss of one of the more notorious border towns. She's built up quite the reputation and people know her name for miles. She was crowned leader since overtaking the last one and rebranding the bar and fight ring they owned. Most people report back to her but she keeps Delphine, Fallon, Jett and Maize close by her side. They get the riskier jobs and are allowed to ask questions without much reprimand. Ovisia's biggest trades are those of secrets and rumours.

The Underground
The Underground is a second city of party and sin. Once an old hideout, Ovisia rebranded the tunnels, and created a whole new world.
The Arena has regular fights with mostly volunteers. The others, well, tried starting a fight they couldn't win. People suspect it's a call-back to Ovisia's past.
The Red Market on surface level may seem similar to the markets above, but they engage in much more expensive and illegal products. One is the drug 'Crimson' created by Ovisia. Along the Red Market are plenty of clubs offering a variety of services. Any involving sexual activities are carefully monitored to assure the safety of workers. Ovisia has a fierce reputation, but she's no monster. That's why people respect her.
To access the Underground you must be a regular or receive a personal invite from Ovisia herself. If not, or someone is spreading the word, they find themselves in an unwinnable fight in the Arena.
Asra's Bar
General
In another border town, Asra opened his bar as a way to escape from his parents. Unfortunately, most of the money he makes goes back to his mother rather than the town itself. But most people still respect him. His best workers would be bounty hunters Alextra, Auburn and Eren.

Culture
General
Border towns are full of secrets and mysteries. Questions are rarely asked unless you catch the attention of a leader. If a leader has earned their town's respect, then it's best you follow step. Each place has different and unspoken rules. Best advice: come prepared.
Entertainment
Border towns have nothing extravagant like balls or tournaments. But if a leader is interested in it they could have small-scale events of such. They're small towns but they have big businesses up their sleeves. Typical entertainment includes bars, clubs, and fighting arenas. Most border town entertainment would be considered scandalous compared to the Kingdoms.
Magic
There are no common types of magic, nor are any banned or outlawed. People are free to use whatever magic they please whenever they please. As long as they don't mess with the wrong person or people, and as long as they don't do anything to draw attention from the border town leader. Otherwise, magic will typically go unquestioned and without consequences.
Fashion
There are no set colours in any border towns unless the leader enforces them. However, due to the shady businesses around the towns most people where blacks, browns and neutral colours to blend in with the environment.
Kingdom colours aren't banned but you'll stick out. While people don't typically ask questions you could be a target and considered less trustworthy.
Most people dress casual and in practical clothing. Formal attire is rare and typically only worn by leaders and other certain professions. Cloaks are common and unsuspicious.
