Spirit Kingdom Lore (Updated)

The Spirit Kingdom

Landscape:
- The Spirit Kingdom is up in their own magical realm technically, above the other kingdoms. It's surrounded by clouds and is it's own island along with a couple of mini islands. There's lots of mountains, waterfalls, etc. The landscapes are meant to have a little piece of each kingdom to it.
- The landscapes are slightly impacted by whoever the Head of House is. With Clio as the Head of House, the forests are particularly lush.
- The landscapes can be dangerous though. The lands are filled with magical energy, and that tends to manifest into the land-forms. Some of the lakes have enchantments to them.

General Geography:
- The Spirits live in a huge place/estate on top of the tallest mountain in the kingdom. Surrounding that palace are the homes of the guards, servants, tree tenders, and stonewall guards. Higher up on the mountain are where the spirits families live. At the very bottom of the mountain are where the villagers live.

Weather/Climate:
- The weather is considered to be "perfect". It's never too hot or too cold. The kingdom cycles through all of the seasons since there were complaints from spirits in the past. The weather is impacted by the Head of House though, so when Clio is in a bad mood then there's more lightning storms than usual.

Flora:
- Due to the weather being relatively perfect, just about any type of plants can grow. The plants there are just replicas of what's down in the human world for the most part. However, there are a few plants that are specific to the Spirit realm. What's most popular are the trees. Within the main estate there's a tree that produces a special liquid that only the spirits can drink. In the very center of the main estate is the Tree of Life, which is a place people go to for wisdom. It's rumored that the tree can give select people visions of what's to come in the future. The Tree of Life is actually what selects who the Head of House is among the spirits, and it happens when the spirits are young. Only the spirits and a special group of people have access to the tree though.

Wildlife:
- In the Spirit Kingdom, it's more common to find magical creatures than normal creatures. Most creatures found here are creatures that would be found in Greek Mythology. For the most part, the creatures are relatively tame.  However, there are some creatures that are extremely dangerous. Those creatures are either used in the arena for entertainment, or kept locked away on one of the floating islands. They're tended to by the servants. With Clio as the Head of House, there has been an influx of more dangerous creatures though.

The Spirits
Dark Spirit/Head of House: Clio - Saraahmadeh
Light Spirit: Alora - Maya Hawke
Lunar Spirit: Cressida - Yael Shelbia
Sun Spirit: Haru - Minami Hamabe
Fall Spirit: Cormac - Jan Francken
Winter Spirit: Talvi - Emma Corrin
Spring Spirit: Davina - Amita Suman
Summer Spirit: Kesa - Alton Mason
Tech Spirit: Remus - Hugh Laughton Scott
Ocean Spirit: Meri - Ki Hong Lee

When the first kingdoms were created: Light, Dark, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Sun, Lunar, Ocean, and Tech; The people who created them each had their own spirit to represent them. It's all a bit of a mystery how the exact hierarchical structure became, but there's some books that can be found on it. Each of the original spirits had their own families though, and that caused their powers to be passed down with each generation. With each generation, a new Head of House is selected. Each Head of House has their own rules/ways of running things, however it's most important that a sense of order is maintained.

The most common spirit to be selected as the Head of House is the Light Spirit. For what reason why, no one really knows. However, each kingdom spirit has been chosen at some point or another throughout time.

History and Conflicts:
- The history of how everything came to be is argued about. Some people say that the Spirit Realm exists to keep the human world from falling to ruin. Others argue that spirits aren't meant to intervene, just to watch. There are books with the history of it, but they're lost deep within the libraries of the main estate.
- The Spirit Realm has never really had conflicts with other places because it's secluded from the human world. However, conflicts have arisen within the realm itself. What typically brings the most drama is the selection of the Head of House. Some people think that a tree shouldn't decide who the Head is, which has led to some groups gathering and attempting to harm the tree.

Economics and Resources
- The Spirit Kingdom doesn't necessarily have to worry about trading because their resources are always plentiful. The landscape tends to provide whatever is needed by the people. The resources that they have the most of are usually influenced by the Head of House. With Clio as the Head of House, magic is very powerful and so are weaponry/metals.

Hierarchy and Class
- There's a very distinct class divide among the Spirit Kingdom, and a hierarchy that's usually harshly enforced. The highest level of power goes to the Head of House, and then all the spirits. After that, it's the spirits families. Then it's the Tree Tenders and the Stonewall Guards. Then the villagers. Servants and other guards would follow that. At the very bottom of the totem pole would be prisoners and the arena fighters.
- For the most part, no one usually is suffering unless they're neglecting their duties or are a threat to the Spirits.

The Spirits
- Spirits are typically discovered at a young age. Their blood is golden, and that's the main giveaway. The moment spirits are discovered, they're brought to the palace and that's where they're raised. They're given their own tutors/advisors, have to go through etiquette training, and learn how to use their powers. Spirits are meant to be the picture of perfection at all times. Spirits aren't even allowed to visit their families.
- Spirits look after their own kingdoms, but can't technically interfere with events. Prior to Clio being in control, spirits could still visit their kingdoms and try helping things along a little bit. When spirits go to the human realm, they're no longer immortal until they come back.
- Spirits have lots of rules they're supposed to follow that have been followed throughout history, and then the rules imposed by the Head of House. Rules that have always been in place are (to name a few): No relationships/falling in love, don't leave the palace, don't talk to servants unless their higher servants or you're giving an order, etc. Spirits technically don't have to obey the Head of House, but it's physically painful to disobey a command.
- Each Spirit also technically has a temple for their kingdom that villagers/others are able to go to in order to seek wisdom or meditate.

Tree Tenders:
- These are the people who take care of the Tree of Life. These people are highly trusted by the spirits, have been there the longest, or just have a power with plants. The Tree Tenders are typically from the Spring Kingdom. The Tree Tenders pretty much have to dedicate their lives to the tree and it's considered a great honor to be chosen.

The Stonewall Guards:
- These are guards selected from prior guards or upstanding, trustworthy, and strong villagers. They have to be dedicated to the kingdom. Once they're selected, they're given a year to finish up whatever they need to and say their goodbyes.. During the ceremony, what happens is that Stonewall guards are completely immersed in stone, causing them to become human statues. They're stuck in place, usually only coming to life to defend the kingdom. They're usually found at the borders of the realm, and around the Tree of Life.
- While it's considered a great honor to be a Stonewall Guard, it also pretty much involves giving up freedom. The Guards, even if they come to life, are unable to leave their assigned location at all.

Culture
- In general, the Spirit Kingdom isn't super horrible. It does have its dark sides though. There are plenty of rules that people must memorize. People born their have it easier than newcomers. For example, the rules about fashion and the many rules involving the hierarchy status'. The most important rules are about not interacting with the Spirits.
- People who are considered to be "villagers" all have their own tasks that they're meant to do. It could be something like tending to the landscapes or keeping things clean. Newcomers are typically given the less fun tasks. Villagers spend most of their life trying to up their status by getting servant positions working for the Spirits. Jobs that involve the Spirits are considered to better power wise than just being a villager.
- People who don't do their part, or break the rules are given certain punishments that range in severity. They could be locked away, they could be stuck as an arena fighter constantly fighting for freedom, or the worst of all: they're stripped of their immortality.
- Ultimately, spirits can do whatever they want. Servants and Guards and Villagers are seen as objects more than anything else. When servants/others don't follow the rules, they can be punished harshly.

Kingdom Colors and Values:
- Colors: There are no kingdom colors. However, most people tend to have some sort of accents depending on where they originally were from if they're a newcomer. Technically the kingdom colors would be Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
- Values: Legacy, Honor, and Duty

Arts and Entertainment:
- Due to the amount of work involved in keeping the realm organized, entertainment is highly valued. It's considered an honor to perform for the spirits, and even more so if you're asked to work permanently for them.

Sculpture Competitions:
- A lot of the architecture in the Spirit Kingdom is sculptures. People compete in creating sculptures out of hopes of their sculpture being added to the Palace for decoration.

Theatre/Performances:
- There's a theatre similar to the pantheon where performances take place. Storytelling is considered valuable, as well as dancing. People who exceed at those skills are usually selected as personal performers for the Palace.

Spirit Banquet:
- While meetings happen throughout the year, the Banquet happens at the very end of the year. All of the spirits feast (people compete to have their food there), and the spirits listen to complaints from the villagers or servants. Sometimes people go just to get a glimpse of them.

Balls:
- Dances are not popular at all in the kingdom. If they're hosted, the spirits are kept up on a balcony away from everyone else. However, villages are still allowed to host dances of their own. They're required to honor the spirits when they do though.

Spirits Presentation:
- Once the Spirits are considered presentable to society, they're all introduced at the same time. They're paraded through the villages on floats, and give a performance of their magic that they should have mastered. It's a day of celebration for the villagers, and it usually ends in parties throughout the entire night.

Arena Fights/Punishments:
- Prisoners fight in a gladiator style event for their freedom. This doesn't happen super often, but when it does there is always bloodshed and it's always popular. Prisoners are also usually sold off as servants if they're too scrawny or don't win often.
- Prisoners are also punished publicly for their offenses, and it typically is just a whipping.

Welcoming Ceremony
It's said that when people in the human realm pass, they have the option of going up to the Spirit Realm. Wether that's true or not, new people end up at the realm some way or another. When they show up, they're in simple all white clothing, with no memory at first of who they were in the human realm. They just have a pin with what kingdom they came from. They're then given a place to stay among the villages. During the welcoming ceremony, the new people are brought to one of the main lakes. They're meant to completely submerge themselves in the water, and when they reemerge that's supposed to symbolize them welcoming their new life with immortality. They're then typically given tasks.

Magic
- The only people who have magic in the Spirit Kingdom are the Spirits. Each spirit has magic that would reflect the magic of their kingdom. The Head of House has magic that is the most powerful out of the group.
- Even if a newcomer had powers in the human world, once they get to the Spirit Kingdom they would fade away.

Fashion
- Fashion is mainly Greek mythology influenced, they're typically flowy tunics or togas or otherwise.
- Spirits have gold accents in their clothing. They're constantly dressed elegantly, and have to look good at all times. They usually have colors as well that are their kingdom colors.
- The Head of House has a golden wreath that has been passed down generations.
- Tree Tenders, Stonewall Guards, Past Spirits and Spirits' families have silver accents. Mainly just upper-class people would have silver accents. Personal servants usually have some sort of mark that marks them depending on which spirit they belong to.
- Anyone lower would have bronze accents. Everyone dresses to impress regardless of class, but lower-class people tend to have slightly more casual outfits. Newcomers tend to wear all white until they start fitting in.
- Prisoners/Traitors don't have any accents, and are required to wear all black clothing.
