Chapter One
W h e n W e M e t
°°*°°
It was about freshman year when I first saw him. I was walking around the hallway, prolonging getting to my class. It was a few months into the school year and I still hadn't made many friends.
I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going. I mean, I usually do, but that day I was staring at my feet. It was a bad habit, but I was always afraid I'd trip and fall on my face.
So, doing this meant I wasn't looking in the direction I was going and I accidentally ran straight into the lockers. Even now, thinking back, I cringe at my stupidity. He was there, watching, though. The hallway was empty.
He moved over and helped me up, as I had fell down from the impact. "Well," he said, "you might want to see the nurse about that. You hit your head pretty hard."
"Thanks," I said, pulling back from his grip on my hand. "I'm Chris."
"Nice name. Is it short for anything?" He stared at me with a smile that brought butterflies to my stomach.
"Christina." I bit my lip. "I don't really like my name though."
"Well, Chris, my name is Luke. It's nice to meet you." He smiled again. "I'll walk you to the nurse."
"Okay," I said. "So, what are you?"
"Gemini," he answered immediately.
"I'm Capricorn, but I was talking about grades. As in, I'm freshman." I giggled, something I didn't do often. "What are you?"
"I'm a senior. I'm seventeen. You're fourteen, I'm guessing," he said, looking at me with a raised brow.
"Cool," I said. "I'm actually fifteen. I turned fifteen yesterday." I shrugged.
"Really? How did you celebrate?" He asked.
"I didn't. You know, unless listening to your parents shouting at each other and your brother smashing a window with a beer bottle celebrating. They didn't even acknowledge it." She sighed. "But you don't want to hear my sob story."
"I don't mind listening. I've got time. Twenty minutes to be exact." I have him a confused glance, and he said,"I have free period."
"They let people have those?" I asked. "I thought that was made up junk for tv shows!"
"The principal is my mom. I get off easy," he said. "She'll be happy to know I'm doing something productive during my free time, though."
"That's good."
After this meeting we didn't get to see each other again for a while. I didn't even think he'd remember me, honestly.
That was until senior prom was announced.
