Chapter Seven

L o o s i n g  H i m

          Eventually Diana ended up breaking up with Blake, and he ended up with Kayla. Now, nothing new really happened after this. Things were normal.

          I had turned seventeen, and eventually started my senior year. Even in all this, I stayed together with Luke. Diana and I stayed best friends.

          I stayed in all the same clubs, and eventually added drama club to the list. I was a shoo in for the scholarship I wanted. All I needed was the recommendation from my English teacher, which I asked for on the last weekend of September.

          "Turn in a paper," he told me. "It will be due by the last day before Christmas break. Make it about something important to you."

          I figured it would be easy. I would just write about my relationship.

          Today, as I write this, I look back and realize how fooled I was. I was a young girl with a head filled with lies I was always told.

          The thing is, Luke never loved me. I knew this when I walked out of that school. Diana had told me she was dating my brother, but she wasn't. I asked him and he said it never happened, but I shrugged it off figuring she'd tell me who it was eventually.

          When I walked out of the classroom I was met with the sight of Diana and Luke pressed against each other, kissing. His arms were wrapped around her waist, her arms around his shoulders.

          I ripped the essay sheet my teacher had given me in half. I wrote down a complete draft of a different essay. One with more detail, better flow.

          Eventually I cornered him about cheating on me, and he didn't deny it. In fact, he admitted to doing it since the night she broke up with Blake.

          I dumped him that night. He didn't cry, he didn't beg for another chance, and he definitely didn't tell me he could change.

          Instead he nodded his head at me and asked for the extra key to his dorm room room back so he could give it to Diana. I slapped him across the face.

          Looking back, I wish I could go back and change this. I wish I could go back to that one day, where I was looking at my feet, and look up.
