          This leads me to why I wrote this essay.

          When I first got the assignment, I was already planning to write about Luke in my head. After all, he was important to me.

          I didn't write this essay about Luke, though. I'm not going to show this essay to Luke and get a kiss on the cheek because he loves it almost as much as he loves me.

          Instead, I will show it to Joseph. He won't kiss me on the cheek. He won't tell me he loves it almost as much as he loves me. That's because he doesn't need to.

          This essay is about what's important to me. The past is important to me. If it wasn't for Luke, I wouldn't have experienced first love. I wouldn't have been depressed and decided to go to McDonald's for a happy meal, for they always cheered me up.

          I wouldn't have met Joseph. When Kayla told me Luke would leave a hole in my heart, she was absolutely correct. It was hard to get up in the morning, to breath.

          Joseph noticed the hole. He came, and he filled it. He became the missing piece I needed.

          He might be my second love, but at least I didn't dive into it like I did with Luke.

          I knew what I was doing. I knew not to fall fast. Not to get into anything I didn't want to. I knew to fall slow. I knew that I wanted a caring guy who didn't just calls on the weekend to ask to go to the beach again. Who said he wanted to go to the movies and see the new scary movie, even when I told him before I didn't want to go.

          Joseph knew what was going on. His first girlfriend dumped him for Blake, who instead went for Diana. Eventually she came back begging, but he said no.

          Luke came back begging as well. I said no. Diana dumped him for his best friend. Looking back, I still wonder how we became best friends. But she's my past. My second biggest mistake.

          In the end, I wrote this essay for him. I'm not going to tell you who he is. I'll leave it to your imagination.

          But my inspiration, I will tell you. Joseph Harrison. The boy who didn't steal my heart, but instead gave me his.
