Chapter 7
(Alex P.O.V)
I started at the mirror, tugging at my sweater. I feel so nervous. I'm going on a date with John Laurens.
Help me.
I pulled my curly red hair into a ponytail and glared at my reflection. I wore a green sweater with black stripes that may or may not be a little bit too big for me and black jeans. I would wear something fancy, if I had anything fancy to wear. I think I look fine like this.
I pulled my shoes and coat on and locked my door, putting food into Ducky's bowl before I left.
(Mini Time skip)
I walked into the restaurant, worried when I didn't spot John immediately. But I noticed him soon enough and walked over hurriedly, untying and tying up my hair because it's a nervous habit and I'm not planning on stopping; it has no negative side effects.
John smiled and beckoned me over. I went to his table and sat down, smiling and nervously fiddling with my hair tie.
"How ya doing?" John asked casually.
"I'm good, pretty nervous I guess."
"Same." He chuckled sheepishly.
We sat pretty awkwardly for a little. I hated the tension that filled the room, it used to be so casual but this date thing was really making me nervous.
"Sorry." I said, breaking the silence.
"For what?"
"Making this so awkward."
"It's not your fault."
"Well I'm not helping, so it sort of is."
"I'm not helping either, so it's both of our faults."
"Y-Yeah, I guess." I nodded and tied up my hair again.
A waitress came up to us, smiling.
"Do you know what you'd like to eat?" She asked cheerily.
We ordered our food and the waitress left after scribbling it down on her note block. I fidgeted a little and sighed, leaning into my hands. John sighed too, shaking his head softly.
"Sorry Alexander, I shouldn't have done this–"
"No. I'm glad you asked me out." I said firmly, taking his hand in mine.
He blushed, looking at our interlaced fingers. I realized what I'd done and let go of his hand. I'm pretty gay around my close friends, which I've only had two of, John included.
I've barely kept in contact with Evan, my first friend. She was a really pretty demigirl who I should probably call later. It's been quite a while.
(Time skip)
The date went better then expected. I was sitting in the park with John, we both had ice creams, even tough it was late fall, and had relaxed completely with the concept that this is a date.
John broke the now comfortable silence. "Hey Alexander?"
"Yeah?" I wasn't going to correct him (I prefer Alex), I don't mind with him.
"I l-love you." He blushed, looking away.
"I'd be upset if you took me on a date and didn't love me." I chuckled. "I love you too, by the way."
His face lit up and his smile screamed at me that he had an idea.
I was shocked when he pulled me into a kiss, but quickly kissed back, leaning in softly.
We pulled apart, beaming and blushing like crazy.
"That was nice." I said after a moment.
"It was indeed." He smiled and we leaned against the bench, finishing our ice creams and taking each other's hands by mutual agreement.
"Hey Alexander?" He said again, a little more nervously then last time.
"What, are you gonna kiss me again? I wouldn't say no if you were." I teased, and he blushed.
"N-no."
"What is it then?" I'm curious now.
"Do you wanna be my... boyfriend?"
"I'd love too." I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him down to my level for anther kiss.
(Another time skip because writing romance scenes is hard)
I walked home, giddy and most definitely still blushing. I walked into my house and went to go see Ducky.
"Hey Duck, guess what!" I squealed, leaning down to pet him.
He cocked his head and looked at me curiously.
"I have a boyfriend!" I cheered and he seemed to both smile and give me a disapproving look.
"What? What is it?" I asked, sitting next to him.
He glared at me, rising on his back legs and putting his paws on my shoulders.
"Hey Duck, don't worry. You're still the best cat in the world. You're my favorite animal, you got that?" I put him on my lap and he rolled over onto his back, exposing his stomach so I could pet him.
I stroked my cat, smiling as he relaxed.
"D'you remember Evan?" I asked him at some point, which got me a very unimpressed stare.
"No, not Evan Hansen. My friend, like, the one of the only other friends I've ever had." I corrected. "I should call her."
Ducky looked at me in a way that was both scolding and approving and meowed accordingly.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." I got up to get my phone and scrolled through my contacts.
I clicked on Evan's and called her, because why not.
Hey Alex, it's been a while.
"It really has."
So, how's it going on your end? Your channel is doing pretty well.
"It's doing better then I expected." I conceded. "How's your quest to go see every musical you like going?"
Pretty well, I've seen Hadestown and Aladdin
"Wow, good for you."
Ducky meowed loudly and tried to crawl onto my shoulders.
"Ducky wants to say hi, remember him?"
Hey Ducky! How was your day?
"He's upset cause I left him for a while."
Why?
"I went on a date."
How did it go?
"I now officially have a boyfriend."
That's great!
We caught up on all the things we'd missed in each other's lives and talked well into the night. It was nice having a discussion with Evan again, and I'm glad the long amount of time in which we didn't talk hasn't made our friendship awkward.
So I now have a solid friendship and a boyfriend. I have accomplished things today.
~Thanks to ChatonErrant for giving me Evan as a character to use~
