Chapter Two

~Two Days Later~

If you have a twin, and if your twin is anything like mine, you know they act extra-nice when they want something from you.

"Hey Chance." Elise said happily, popping her head in my doorway.

"Hey." I said as I scrolled through Netflix.

"What are you doing tonight?" She asked innocently.

"Nothing. And neither are you. You're grounded, remember?" I said.

"Grounded." She said with a laugh and waving her hand in the air, as if swatting the word away. "She didn't mean it. She was just trying to intimidate me. I'm sure she'll forget about it by tomorrow."

"Elise, she said the words 'you're grounded' and took you phone and car keys."

"But I'm sure she'll give them back soon." She said, sitting down on my bed. "But, for now, I need you to drive me somewhere."

"No way. I'm staying home tonight and watching Netflix in my pajamas." I denied.

"It's a party." She continued.

"I already said no. I'm not driving you anywhere. Because if I do, and we get caught, then I'm in trouble too." I replied.

"You can just drive me there and drop me off. I'll find someone to drive me home." She pleaded.

"No, Elise. I'm not leaving you at a party full of horny drunk dudes. And please tell me you're not stupid enough to let a drunk person drive you home." I groaned.

"Can you give me your keys then? That was I can drive myself and you can stay home." She tried.

"Mom took them away for a reason. You already know I'm not giving you mine." I said.

"But I really want to go Chance!" She whined. "Besides, it seems like you could use a party. You know, to let loose for once. Maybe meet some cute girls."

"But I'm gay." I huffed under my breath.

Now, when I tell you I did not mean for her to hear that, I mean I did not mean for her to hear that.

"What?" She yelled.

"I did not mean for you to hear that! Oh my god Elise, you can't tell mom!" I cried, standing up from the bed.

"We can find you a cute guy, then." She squealed.

"I don't want that either." I groaned, falling back onto my bed.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked. I sat back down.

"It's not as easy as it sounds." I mumbled.

There were a few moments of silence.

"Are you gonna tell anyone at school?" She asked all of a sudden.

"You're funny." I muttered.

"I'm not joking. You should do it."

"Easy for you to say. You're not the person people would judge and bully." I said.

"Actually, people were talking about the pride parade in class today. And not in the sarcastic way. I think you'd be okay." She tried.

"I don't think so."

"Well you aren't planning on staying in the closet forever, are you?" She asked.

"Of course not." I said.

I was. I was definitely planning on staying in the closet forever.

It wasn't even a closet anymore. It was more of a.... luxurious treehouse. With electricity, maids, and running water.

"Chance, listen." Elise sighed, sitting on the bed next to me. "Don't you think it would be better to be out than to just hide who you are all the time?" She asked.

"I guess." I mumbled.

"How about this. If the opportunity presents itself, start telling people that you're gay. You don't have to go out of your way to bring it up, and you don't have to tape rainbows to your ass, but...." she trailed off and stood up from my bed. "if it comes up, come out. Just consider it." She said, walking to my door.

Halfway there, she turned around.

"Be ready by 10:00." She said, turning on her heel and walking out.

(POV change because it suits the chapter better) (and cause I did it by accident and got too lazy to rewrite it) (enjoy)

Chance had considered. He had made a pro-con list, and much to his dismay the pros heavily outweighed the cons. He had come out to imaginary people, had imaginary sex with an imaginary guy. The last one was just for fun, though.

But the more he considered, the better the idea sounded, and the more he considered making his luxurious-treehouse-closet more of a....vacation home. Just for his mom.

So it was decided. If it came up, he would come out.

Now that he was done considering that, he had to consider what he was going to wear. He walked up to his closet, scanning his clothes. He finally landed on a white All Time Low shirt and dark jeans. He didn't want to go to the party, so he didn't really care if he looked nice or not.

(Back to first person, sorry not sorry)

I left my room, content with my outfit, and knocked on the door to Elise's bedroom.

"Ready to go?" I asked.

Elise opened the door. She was wearing light blue jean shorts and a tight black t-shirt. She had done her hair in two Dutch braids, draped over her shoulders.

"How do I look?" She asked, moving her eyebrows up and down.

"To be honest, you look kinda slutty." I answered.

"I hate honest people." She said with an eye roll.

"Are you ready to go or not?" I laughed.

"Ready to rumble!" She shouted and grabbed my wrist, dragging me down the stairs.

"Okay, but Elise, make sure you stay with someone you know. And don't take drinks from anyone, get it yourself. Don't drink so much that you black out. I don't want someone to take advantage of you. Don't do anything that you wouldn't want video taped. Actually, don't do anything you wouldn't want mom to see. Don't be afraid to come and find me cause god knows I'll just be standing in the corner being awkward as fu-" I rambled.

"I get it. I'm not stupid." She said with a laugh.

We reached the garage door and got into the car.

"So..." Elise said. "Did you think about it?"

"Think about what?" I asked innocently. "Put the address in the GPS."

"Chance." She grinned.

"Okay. Fine. Yes I did. I decided that I'll do it if it comes up." I sighed.

"Oh, Chance, that's awesome! I'm so happy for you." She squealed.

"Yeah. Okay." I mumbled.

"Sorry, sorry. Let's go."

"Elise, I'm not kidding about the things I said while you violently dragged me through the house. Please make sure you're safe. Don't be a moron." I said in a stern voice.

"Okay Mom. Now drive!"

*********

We were an hour late to the party. 'Fashionably late', as Elise called it.

So now we were parked outside of a house, just sitting on the curb.

"Turn the child lock off, Chance." Elise yelled.

"Don't get out yet." I groaned, rubbing my face in my hands.

"Let me out! Unlock the car, Chance." She shouted.

"Okay, okay. Fine." I said, reaching down and unlocking the car. "But just let me say-" Elise flew out of the car before I could finish my sentence.

"Okay then." I grunted as I stood up and closed the car door.

The house was a pretty good size. Not like what you saw in most movies, but bigger than the average house.

I just felt bad for whoever had to clean up after a party of drunk, rowdy teenagers.

I made my way up the steps and walked through the open door. It smelled like alcohol and sweat, my favorite Bath And Body Works scent.

"Please tell me you're a designated driver." A black girl with curly brown hair ran up to me and asked frantically, gripping my arm and yelling over the music.

"Uh... yeah. I guess I am." I stammered.

"Oh, thank god! I can not stand to be the only person here not drinking." She said with a laugh.

I guess she was right. It would be a more bearable night if I stuck with another sober person.

"How many people are you driving?" She asked.

"Just one. My sister." I answered.

"What's her name? What's your name?" She questioned.

"Her name's Elise, my name's Chance. What's yours?" I asked.

"I'm Angel." She said. "What year are you?"

"Sophomore." I said.

"I'm a junior." She chattered. "Wanna go stand at the top of the stairs? It's quieter there." She suggested. I nodded and we pushed our way through crowds of people, reaching the stairs minutes later.

"So, we'd gonna be spending some time together tonight. I'm very straightforward, just a warning." She laughed. She was right, I could definitely hear her better.

"That's fine." I replied.

"Do you play any sports?" She asked.

"I'm not much of a sporty person. That's more like my sister." I answered. "You?"

"I play soccer. You're new here?" She inquired.

"Yeah. We just moved here a few weeks ago."

"Who is 'we'?" She asked.

"Me, my sister, and my mom." I replied.

"I got two brothers, two sisters, me, and my dad all in one house." She shared. "Where'd your dad go?"

"He left when we were born." I said with a shrug.

"My mom left when I was 5." She said.

Angel seemed kind of nosy, but in all honesty I didn't care. It was nice being able to talk to someone about stuff you usually don't talk about.

So we talked for hours, forgetting all about the party.

*******

"So you got a girlfriend?" Angel asked.

I glanced around the party from my high view, zoning in on a group of teenagers circling two boys arguing.

I took a deep breath and pretended to not hear her question.

People in the crowd started get rowdy, taking their drunken dancing to the next level.

"Hey, dude." She nudged me. I looked over at her.

"You seeing any girls Chance?" She asked.

"Uh...." I sighed.

"That's not really a clear answer." She said with a laugh.

I turned to Angel, starting to worry about losing this opportunity to come out to someone at this party. For Elise.

"Actually-" I started.

"I can't hear you!" She yelled.

The cheers of the crowd had become too loud.

"I'm actually-"

"What-" she screeched.

I took a deep breath, ready to tell Angel that I was gay.

I did this at the same moment that the guy deejaying stopped the music.

So, what ended up happening was everyone quieting down and hearing me shout:

"Angel, I'm gay."

How '10 Things I Hate About You' of me.
