Caramel Macchiato -Yoonmin
ㅏYoonminㅓ
Jimin is a ray of sunshine that lights up the world around him.
Yoongi is grumpy and refuses to see the beauty around him.
Yoongi's (Suga's) POV
Sitting in a hospital bed for most of your life can really teach you some things.
Like how your life is just a short breath in eternity.
It also triggers depressing ass thoughts that fly through my head every once in a while.
Min Yoongi, 21 and currently on the brink of death.
The topic of death used to scare me when I was little. The fear of one day closing my eyes and then never opening them again.
I went through the same routine everyday.
Wake up, take medicine.
Eat, take medicine.
Therapy, take medicine.
Take a dump, take medicine
And repeat.
And honestly I was getting tired of it.
Kim Seokjin. He was one of the nicest doctors. Mainly because he doesn't sugar coat things.
I thought I was stuck in this vicious cycle where I had to repeat the same routine until I die a painful death one done, until Seokjin approached me with two choices.
"Yoongi....there are two ways you can go. One, you take this strong medicine and injection. This will bring your physical abilities to the rate of a healthy human. But you will have one week. The body can't take any of the force anymore and it literally shuts down.
Or you continue with how you're living right now and last another 3 years."
I was quick to answer, confident and had no regrets. "First option."
Jin sighed and removed his glasses. He rubbed his eyes before looking back up. I was taken back when I saw his watery eyes.
"I knew you were going to choose that one." He said bringing out a plastic tray with three pills and a needle.
I stared those 4 objects down as Jin slowly approached me.
"Are you sure Yoongi?" He asked one final time.
I nodded, determined that I would live a normal life. Even if it was only for one week.
Jimin's POV
Three years.
4 months.
6 days.
That's how long it's been since I've seen his beautiful smile.
I grown up with Yoongi.
When we were young, he lived next door. I was too innocent, too naïve to understand why he disappeared for months at a time. Those thoughts always vanished the moment I saw him again.
It broke my heart when I found out he was in the hospital for most of his life.
I tried to visit but his parents moved him to a different hospital and I haven't seen him since.
I sighed and poured a hot cup of coffee for another stranger.
Life has become boring and meaningless. But I am hopeful. One day, I'll meet him again.
The bell on the door rang as someone walked through the front door.
I looked up, "Good morning how may...."
I stopped talking when I saw those familiar eyes. That familiar smile.
I didn't care if I got fired because in that moment the only thing that mattered was him.
I jumped over the counter and tackle hugged him.
"Yoongi I missed you so much."
He chuckled and hugged me tight, ruffling my hair as he held me.
"What's up pumpkin?"
I pouted when I realized he was making fun of my orange hair.
"I think it's very stylish." I say with a childish tone, trying to defend my hair that I painfully styled. Bleaching is no walk in the park. It hurts.
"How are you?" I say sitting him down on a stool opposite from where I worked behind the counter.
I had my back turned to him. I was happily making him a hot cup of coffee.
"Jimin...we need to talk."
I placed the freshly brewed masterpiece in front of him and leaned against the counter.
"What's up?"
"One week."
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Third person view
The moment those two words came out of Yoongi's mouth, Jimin knew exactly what they meant.
Without any second thought, he marched right up to his boss and took of his apron.
Namjoon was strict when it came to work but he was a great friend. He could see the desperation Jimin's eyes when the younger man asked for a week leave.
Namjoon gave it to him.
Jimin raced back to Yoongi and took his hand.
"One week? Okay. Let's make that one week the best week of your life."
Day 1:
Jimin wasn't a fan of high speeds, or steep drops or being upside down. Yoongi on the other hand loved it.
He treasured every second that he was on a roller coaster. He loved the rush and adrenaline that pumped through his veins as he hung upside down. He felt like he living, really living.
Yoongi chuckled when he saw Jimin's knuckles turn white as he gripped onto the bar with his life.
"You know the ride hasn't even started yet?" He asked amused.
Jimin scoffed, "Oh please. It's a miracle you got me on this- AHHHHHHHHHH."
He was cut off by the roller coaster starting.
Yoongi laughed through the whole thing. He even put his hands up letting the wind rush by his fingers.
Jimin on the other hand was holding for dear life into Yoongi.
His eyes were shut and he was screaming non stop.
"Jimin."
Yoongi tried to detach from a still screaming Jimin.
"Jimin...."
"AHHHHH....oh" Jimin opened his eyes and realized that the ride was over.
Yoongi just chuckled and got up.
Jimin followed but stumbled and almost fell.
Yoongi caught him and slipped an arm around the younger boy's waist to support him.
"Jimin how about we get some cotton candy."
"Yea that's a good idea Hyung." Jimin said still a bit breathless.
The two spent the rest of the day in the amusement park.
Yoongi continuously tried to coax the orange headed boy onto different rides but he refused.
After a few tiring hours, Jimin some how convinced Yoongi to get on the carousel.
So they ended their day with a slow ride on some plastic horses.
Day 2:
Yoongi happily made his way to Jimin's café where they decided to meet up.
He was greeted by a hot cup of coffee and a warm seat by the fireplace.
"So...where we going today?" Yoongi asked while taking small sips of the special made coffee by Jimin.
"I was thinking.....hiking." Jimin said.
Yoongi made a face, "But that requires physical activity."
Jimin nodded, "It's totally worth it though. The view from the top is gorgeous."
Yoongi gave up and nodded reluctantly.
Jimin cheered and got up while tugging Yoongi with him.
2 hours and 658 feet higher:
Jimin paused and look back to see Yoongi doubled over and clutching his chest.
He raced back down to the winded boy and guided him to a huge boulder where Yoongi took a seat.
Yoongi took a couple deep raspy breaths before going back to normal.
Jimin watched him worryingly.
"You okay Hyung?"
Yoongi was in pain but he didn't want to tell the younger boy. Let him enjoy while he can, "Nah who's brilliant idea was to bring the dying kid to a hike?"
Jimin made a pained expression but laughed it off.
"Shut up. If you're well enough to joke then you're well enough to keep walking."
Jimin pulled Yoongi up but wrapped an arm around his waist for support.
Yoongi didn't mind at all.
Another 3 hours later (They're really slow)
Jimin set Yoongi down on a boulder and walked to the edge.
After a couple painful hours the duo made their way to the top. Jimin walked right up to the edge and spread out his arms.
"Be careful you idiot." Yoongi called out like a worried mom.
Jimin just laughed and enjoyed the light breeze.
Yoongi on the other hand was enjoying the view.
A cute head of orange hair, the chubbiest cheeks, full lips, a killer collar bone.
Jimin turned to see Yoongi staring at him.
"H-Hyung. Come here." Jimin stuttered as he starting turning red under Yoongi's stare.
Yoongi got up and walked up to Jimin.
"You were right."
"What?"
"The view was totally worth it."
Day three:
Like the past two days, the cute Yoomin couple started off their day with a cup of coffee.
"What crazy idea have you got for us today?" Yoongi asked.
Jimin shrugged, "It's cuddle day."
Yoongi choked on the coffee.
"C-cuddle day?"
Jimin nodded, "We did some crazy things Hyung. We have to relax. I can't have you leaving me early."
It hurt Jimin to make a joke but he knew Yoongi wanted him to be happy with what's going to happen.
Yoongi smiled and put down the empty cup.
"Okay. Cuddle day it is."
Jimin smiled and stood up. He took Yoongi's hand and impatiently pulled him up.
"Eager are we?" Yoongi asked with a slight smirk.
Jimin nodded, "Ima cuddle you like there's no tomorrow."
Yoongi laughed and poked Jimin's nose, "Cute."
They spent a few hours lying on the couch and watching some movies.
Jimin was holding onto Yoongi and Yoongi had an arm around Jimin's waist holding him close.
"Jimin what did you think of the mo-" He got cut off by a loud snore. A cute loud snore.
Yoongi chuckled to himself and ran his fingers through Jimin's incredibly soft hair.
He planted a soft kiss on his head and snuggled closer to the sleeping boy.
"I'm really going to miss you." Yoongi whispered as he kissed Jimin again before closing his eyes.
Jimin woke up a couple hours later. The sun was just setting and he was starving.
"Hyung.....hyunnngggg." Jimin whined as he tried to wake Yoongi.
Big mistake.
Yoongi grumbled something which is totally not Jimin appropriate and pushed the poor boy off the couch.
Jimin made a face and stood up, dusting off his pants dramatically.
"Fine I'll just get food by myself."
He got no response.
Jimin rolled his eyes and wrote Yoongi a quick note before heading out.
He shivered and pulled up his hood as he walked through the cold winter weather. Jimin quickly walked into a restaurant and got some take out.
Jimin dreaded the 7th day. Will Yoongi just collapse? Will he not wake up? Would it painful?
Jimin's thoughts were so preoccupied with these thoughts that he didn't even realize that he was back at his apartment. With shaking hands, he unlocked the front door to see an awake Yoongi rubbing his eyes and reading the note.
"Sweetie!!! I'm hoome!" Jimin sang as he shut the front door with his back foot.
Yoongi turned towards him and made a face. Jimin chuckled and plopped the food in front of Yoongi.
With a light conversation, Jimin and Yoongi started eating. By the time they finished the sun had already set .
Jimin cleaned up the last of the trash and turned the tv on and opened up Dramafever.
They spent the rest of the night binge watching cheesy romantic shows.
Day four:
Yoongi and Jimin started off the day earlier. They walked to Jimin's coffee shop. Jimin was crossing the street when Yoongi suddenly pulled him back. A car zoomed by as Yoongi held Jimin.
"Are you crazy! Jesus watch where you're going." Yoongi complained as he held Jimin.
Jimin just smiled and enjoyed the feeling of being in Yoongi's arms.
Yoongi suddenly realized they were standing in the middle of the sidewalk hugging. He let Jimin go but not his hand. They continued their way to the coffee shop holding hands.
Namjoon was the one who unlocked the door from the inside. Jimin had texted him about what was happening and Namjoon agreed to let Jimin do what he needed to do for the week.
"Good morning love birds" Namjoon said sleepily. Jimin turned a slight shade of red while Yoongi just smiled.
Yoongi sat in his usual seat and watched Jimin as he made Yoongi's caramel macchiato, the way Jimin did every morning.
"So what do you plan to do today?" Yoongi asked. This was starting to become a routine.
They would get up and walk to the coffee shop. Jimin would make Yoongi his caramel macchiato and Yoongi would ask what they were doing today.
Jimin leaned against the counter and propped his head on his hand.
"Hmmm. I was thinking about getting a bunch of cookies and heading down to the orphanage my friend owns."
Yoongi thought about it and eventually nodded an 'okay'.
"You're buying." Yoongi said as he put the empty mug down. Jimin rolled his eyes and grabbed his coat.
"Fine. Let's go penny pincher."
Twenty minutes later, Yoongi and Jimin were standing in front of a bakery.
"Why can't we just go to a convenience store?" Yoongi complained as they opened the door.
Jimin hushed him, "Those kids deserve the best. You'll understand when we get there."
Yoongi just kept quiet. At this point, Yoongi was willing to do anything for Jimin. Anything to keep that heartwarming smile for as long as he could.
Jimin rung the little bell and a small man walked out from the back.
His eyes were large and round and his lips were distinctly heartshaped.
He smiled, "What can I do for you today?"
Jimin scanned the cookies, "Can we get a variety set."
The man nodded, "How many do you need?"
"About 100?" Jimin said, clearly trying to do the calculations in his head.
The man's eyes widened and he nodded, "100...okay JONGIIN!!"
He called out for someone.
Seconds later a taller, tanner man wearing a black apron came through the same entrance and smiled at us.
"What's up Kyungie."
"Help me. They want a 100 cookie variety set."
Jongin's eyes widened but he nodded and pulled out 5 large boxes and started placing twenty random cookies in each one.
You know you got it bad when you type Kookie instead of cookie.
In a few minutes Jongin and "Kyungie" had finished and Yoongi paid the bill.
Originally Jimin was supposed to pay but the cookies cost more than he expected so Yoongi paid instead.
They left the bakery waving and stepped out into the bitter cold.
"Where to?" Yoongi asked while shivering.
Jimin took Yoongi's hand and started walking. Yoongi shrugged to himself and followed.
Ten painful minutes later they arrived at a huge house, almost a mansion.
"My friend is rich. He owns a company and his husband made an orphanage and so they run it together."
Jimin explained as the two freezing boys waiting after ringing the doorbell more times than socially acceptable.
The door finally opened and instead of an adult, they saw a cute little girl who was bald and had a bow wrapped around her head.
Jimin smiled and squatted down to her level.
"Hi sweetie. Can you take us to Taehyung?"
She nodded and opened the door wider and let us in. The two boys followed the little girl as she ran through the house.
She finally stopped in front of a set of doors and motioned for them to push it.
Jimin pushed open the doors and smiled when he saw a man siting on a office chair.
The man looked up and stood up immediately, "Jimin!"
"Tae! How you've been?"
Taehyung walked towards Jimin and gave him a bear hug.
"Jimin! It's been so long! Hoseok!!! COME HERE!"
Another man, Yoongi assumed it was Hoseok came running through a door in the back with a shirt half on.
"What babe? Is someone hurt? Did Taekwoon hit Hakyeon again?"
Ayee @ any starlights reading this
Taehyung laughed and wrapped an arm around Hoseok, "No. Look who decided to show up."
Hoseok smiled once he noticed Jimin. He warmly greeted him and started to talk and catch up.
While this was all happening, Yoongi was standing there awkwardly holding 5 boxes of cookies.
Finally Taehyung noticed, "Jimin who's this?"
Jimin turned to see Yoongi staring at him with a pointed look.
Jimin laughed nervously, "Guys this is Yoongi. We brought cookies for the kids."
Hoseok's eyes lit up as he opened the top box.
He tried taking one but his husband slapped his hand.
"You know how you get when you eat too much sugar." Taehyung said.
Hoseok rolled his eyes but closed the box.
"I'll call the kids. Tae, do you mind showing them to the cafeteria?"
Taehyung nodded and made Yoongi and Jimin follow him.
"So how did this orphanage start?" Yoongi asked trying to create a conversation.
Taehyung sighed softly and turned the corner and stopped in front of a large picture of the wall.
A little boy, maybe 10 or 11 was smiling while posing in between Taehyung and Hoseok.
The small gold label caught Yoongi's eye.
It read;
"Kim Jungkook; 1999- 2009"
"Jungkook was our adopted son. We found out he had cancer in 2005 and he died 4 years later. We were heartbroken but we couldn't stop thinking about all those children who have cancer but are at those terrible orphanages which didn't have good treatment so we started a special one of our own."
Yoongi eyes widened, "Wait....every kid here..."
Taehyung nodded and continued walking.
Yoongi didn't know how to feel. These kids....were just like him. But they didn't have the caring parents Yoongi had.
He balanced the five boxes with one had and wiped the growing tears with the other.
Taehyung finally stopped in a big room which had a bunch of tables. Moments later Hoseok appeared with dozens of kids behind him.
Some didn't have hair, some were in wheelchairs. Others were missing a limb or had a limp.
Yoongi's eyes watered up again as he knelt down to a small girl and opened the box.
"Hi sweetie....do you want a cookie?"
Day five:
As usual, Jimin and Yoongi started their day off with one cup of coffee.
"So-" Yoongi started to ask but Jimin finished the sentence for him.
"What are we doing today? Well. I have a bunch of tasks and we'll do them all. No matter how crazy they are. Warning, Namjoon did write most of them so...."
Yoongi raised an eyebrow as Jimin took out a cup of rolled up papers.
He offered it to Yoongi who looked at the cup before slowly taking a blue one.
He unraveled the paper and read the paper.
Jimin laughed as Yoongi immediately groaned and face palmed.
Call someone you know and ask 'When a cow laughs, does milk come out of its nose?'.
Jimin cracked up even more after he read the paper.
Yoongi rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone.
"Might as well call the one person I can stand."
Jimin made a face, "Hey what is that supposed to mean?"
Yoongi chuckled and winked before answering the hello that came through his phone.
"Yoongi...are you okay! Why did you call?"
"Jin calm down. I just wanted to ask, if a cow laughs, does milk come out of its nose?"
There was silence before Jin replied, "Yoongi are you okay? Is that medicine giving you any side effects?"
Jimin started laughing as Yoongi swore at Jin before hanging up.
They continued this game for a while. Almost all day. Even Namjoon joined at random times.
It started raining by the time Yoongi picked the last paper.
He unraveled it while holding his breath. He knew personally that some of these tasks make you want to jump off a cliff.
Do something unexpected....something you would never do.
Yoongi stared at the words before looking out the window. The roads were now empty and no one was outside. No one with the right mind would be outside during the rain.
Yoongi jumped up and ran outside. Jimin followed after glancing at the paper. Yoongi stepped out into the rain and spread out his arms.
He let out a loud laugh as he spun. Jimin just stared.
He never saw this part of Yoongi before.
Yoongi was always so composed and mature. He didn't like doing crazy childish things and yet here he was, dancing around in the rain.
Jimin watched him for another minute before joining.
Day six:
Yoongi finished his morning coffee quicker than usual. He didn't want to waste any more time. His days were ticking down and he wanted to spend as much time as he could with Jimin.
"Hey Yoongi?" Jimin called out to break the silence.
"Yea." Yoongi responded as he buttoned up his coat.
"When was the last time you talked to your parents?"
Yoongi froze. His parents were a sensitive topic.
They lived in the same city, but Yoongi banned them from visiting.
They always controlled his life. Whatever Yoongi did, it was because his parents made him.
Switching hospitals was the last straw.
Before, when Jimin first found out he frequently visited Yoongi.
That was the only reason Yoongi could make it through those painful treatments. After his parents found out they immediately switched Yoongi out which caused him to become who he was today.
"I see them once in a while...." Yoongi said avoiding the question.
"Yoongi Hyung..." Jimin said placing his hands on his waist.
Yoongi sighed, "4 years."
Jimin gasped, "And you're just going to leave? Without telling them??"
This hit Yoongi hard. He hasn't thought about what his parents were going to feel...after you know...
Maybe he was being selfish...That couldn't be. Yoongi was in control of his own life. His decisions were for his own good.
Jimin walked to the back room where Namjoon's office was and came back with car keys.
"Come on....we're going to go see them."
Yoongi protested but Jimin was having none of it. He dragged Yoongi to Namjoon's car and made him sit.
Yoongi sighed defeated and gave Jimin the directions to his parents' apartment.
Jimin smiled and started the drive, occasionally patting Yoongi's arm to comfort him.
The drive was short and in minutes the two boys were standing in the doorway ringing the doorbell.
The door slowly opened and a small middle aged woman gasped when she saw Yoongi.
"Yoongi?....how?" She said, reaching out to stroke his cheek.
Yoongi stepped back to avoid his mother's touch. She whimpered slightly before calling her husband.
Yoongi's dad came running to the door and hugged Yoongi.
Yoongi was surprised but didn't hug him back.
Yoongi's mom glared at Jimin, "You! Why are you here?"
Yoongi pushed his father away, "The only reason why I'm here is because of him....so show him some respect." There was a threatening tone in his words and Jimin chose to ignore it before pushing Yoongi into the apartment.
"Sorry but Yoongi Hyung has something to say."
Minutes later they were awkwardly sitting in the living room. Yoongi's mother left to go get them snacks.
Jimin shook his head when she offered him food and Yoongi just ignored her all together.
Jimin sighed and leaned it.
"Hyung please....just tell them." He whispered in Yoongi's ear.
Yoongi sighed before taking a deep breath.
"Mom....dad. Seokjin Hyung gave me a choice. A choice that only I could make. So it didn't matter what you said. It was either I lived three more years like I was living.... Or I get the special treatment and feel like a normal human being but I have only a week."
Yoongi's mom's eyes widened, "You chose the three years....right?"
Yoongi slowly shook his head.
She gasped and buried her head in her husband's shoulder.
Yoongi felt a pain twinge in his heart as he heard his mother's sobs.
"When...when was this?" His father asked with a shaken voice.
With that, Yoongi's dad rubbed his face with his hands and sighed deeply.
His mother suddenly stood up.
"WHY? WEREN'T YOU THINKING ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE?"
Yoongi snapped. He had enough of this. He stood up. Jimin tried to stop him but it was too late.
"You think I liked being in the hospital? IT WAS A JAIL TO ME! Everyday I did the same thing....and for what? Living for a couple extra years? What difference will that make when I'll just die without accomplishing anything that I wanted to do? YOU WILL
NEVER UNDERSTAND. NOT UNTIL YOU ARE LYING ON YOUR DEATHBED."
Yoongi took a deep breath trying to stabilize himself.
Jimin helped him sit down and raced to the kitchen to get him a glass of water.
Yoongi took it appreciatively and drank the content.
Yoongi's parents were silent. They were still trying to process Yoongi's words.
Finally his father spoke up, "I-I'm sorry. I didn't know you felt that way."
Yoongi sighed before getting up.
He gently guided his mother up by her shoulders and hugged her.
She started crying again as she held onto her son.
"I'm so sorry. I-I acted so selfishly all these years. I just wanted my son to live as long as he could."
Jimin watched as Yoongi's father also stood up and joined the hug.
Jimin smiled victoriously as he thought Mission accomplished.
Night of the seventh day:
Yoongi laid in bed with one arm loosely wrapped around Jimin's waist as the younger boy was resting his head on Yoongi's chest.
Yoongi ran his fingers through Jimin's hair as he thought back to the past week.
Yoongi didn't understand why Jimin would go through all this trouble just to loose Yoongi.
Then it hit him. Yoongi understood what Jimin was trying to do.
Jimin has been trying to summarize most of life in one week.
When they went to the amusement park, he was trying to show Yoongi how to live in the fast track. To show him the rush of life.
The next day when Jimin took Yoongi up to the top of the mountain, he was trying to show him to appreciate the world around him. Because either that world wasn't going to last long.....or he wasn't going to last long.
When they took that lazy day, Jimin was trying to show how to enjoy the simple things of life.
The fourth day was to teach him to help others. Because to help yourself, you have to help others.
I feel so philosophical wowowow
Day five was to live spontaneous and day six was closure.
He's been trying to teach Yoongi how to live life.
Yoongi wiped the tears from his eyes and turned to look at Jimin.
He was sleeping peacefully after crying for an hour. Jimin didn't want Yoongi to leave but he had no choice.
Before he changed his mind, Yoongi leaned down and softly placed his lips on Jimin's.
He pulled away and went back to his original position and closed his eyes.
Two months later:
Jimin's POV
It's been two months and it doesn't hurt any less.
The morning I woke up, he wasn't moving.
I called Jin and he came by in an ambulance to pick him up.
The funeral went by like a flash. Only a handful of people were there. Like Yoongi's parents, Jin, Namjoon, Taehyung, and Hoseok.
When I went back home, I noticed a small note by the bed.
I picked it up and immediately smiled.
I finally understood why....thank you Jimin. I love you.
-Yoongi.
I smiled because he understood. He understood why I cared so much.
I hope he understood how much I loved him. How much i still love him.
Namjoon snapped his fingers next to my face.
I jumped and turned to him, "What?!"
Namjoon chuckled, "You've been wiping that same spot for the past five minutes."
"I was just making sure it was clean."
"Yea okay. Hey take over today. I've got a date."
"With Jin?"
"Shut up."
I chuckled as Namjoon walked away from me in embarrassment.
I dropped the towel and started making a cup of coffee. But instead of drinking it, I put it in Yoongi's usual spot....just like I've been doing for the past two months.
I'm sorry for any mistakes.... I really didn't edit it. I mean like its 4669 words. I ain't in the mood to reread all of that. Anyway I hope you enjoyed.
