Elves

Time ticked by... every minute the atmosphere grew more, and more, tense.

"Emariya?" I heard Fili's voice, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I brought you some food."

He handed me some stew. "Thanks." I mumbled. I wasn't really hungry.

The survivors of Laketown had found shelter in Dale. I felt horrible for them. Everything they had was destroyed, they lost loved ones, and all their money...

"Heeellloooo?" I jumped. "I've been talking to you for ten minutes." Fili said.

"Sorry, I'm just... distracted." I replied apologetically.

"No problem. I understand. That's some wall ain't it?" He asked, sitting down next to me.

"Yah. Thorin is crazy."

"I hope I don't become like him when I'm king..." I heard Fili say, mostly to himself. The dwarves had built a wall, no one could get in, and no one could get out.

"Well, why don't we go check out this amazing wall?" I suggested.

"Sure."

We made our way to the entrance. As soon as we got to the top of the wall I saw Bard... and an army of elves, all lined up at Dale.

He called out to Thorin, who had arrived, I didn't bother listening to them. I knew it was about Thorin giving them the gold they were promised.

Thorin wasn't going to do that, he couldn't. After they talked one-on-one I saw Bard gallop away. He didn't look happy.

---------------------------------------------

We got prepared for battle, well, the dwarves did. Bilbo and I weren't going to fight. Bilbo didn't know how to, and I wasn't going to fight because I didn't want to be part of it.

I did help the dwarves with their armour though. "I'm sorry for slapping you, and being rude." Thorin said shortly to me.

I knew he only half meant it, but still, it was better then nothing. I nodded, and helped him with his armour.

Though I was very ticked off at him, I still loved Thorin, and I didn't want him to die. I sighed quietly.

"Why do you sigh?" He asked me.

"Because the one that I love, is suffering from gold." I whispered, knowing that he'd probably get mad.

"It's not suffering. I love the gold. But the Arkenstone..." he mumbled.

"Is dangerous."

"I think one of them has betrayed us... my own kin... taken it for their own, yes... that's what they've done..." he whispered.

Tears slipped down my face, at the sad sight of Thorin. I hated this gold, I hated how it affected him.

I gave up trying to help. It wasn't worth it. He was too far in.

He thanked me and went to speak with Bilbo.

He gave Bilbo an indestructible chain link, armour, thing, I forget what they're called.

The dwarves marched out to the entrance. Bilbo and I followed, before I tripped over a rock. I looked around the halls.

How can something this magnificent, and wonderful, also be so dreadful, and horrible.

I arrived to the entrance in time to hear Thorin say to Bilbo "Never underestimate the power of dwarves."

*sigh*

--------------------------------------------

I watched Bilbo, he looked around, and pulled a ring out of his pocket. "The ring..." I thought to myself.

He suddenly disappeared. I waited until he was out of sight, before I turned myself invisible and followed him.

He had a length of rope that he tied to a large metal ring in the wall at the front entrance. "How ironic." I chuckled. He slid down it, and started towards Dale.

I slid down the rope, more gracefully then he did, and started free him."What in the world is he... no... he's taking the Arkenstone to them...?For them to trade Thorin for their share of treasure Bilbo is a genius."

We ran, and ran, until we came to the City of Dale. We went in the gates, which weren't very well guarded, and up to the main... tents?

Bilbo took off his ring, so I became visible. I ran over to him. "Bilbo you are a genius!!" I yelled.

"What the...? How did you...? Oh yah." he stuttered.

We walked into the tent. Gandalf was there, and Bard, and, to my dislike, Thranduil.

There was a lot of lovely greetings, and then Thranduil spoke. "Are you not the Halfling who stole the keys to my dungeons, and set free my prisoners?"

"Oh yah... Sorry about that." Bilbo replied. I suppressed a laugh.

"And are you not the one that steals from my cellar everyday?" He now turned to me.

"I need to eat..." I mumbled defensively.

There was a lot more chat, Bilbo revealed the Arkenstone. It was all very boring.

Bilbo and I walked outside with Gandalf.

"I'm sorry, but I don't believe we have formally met." I said to Gandalf, putting my hand out.

"Well, it's about time we do then." he replied, shaking my hand.

"I'm Emariya, an I know that you are Gandalf the Grey, and it's a pleasure to meet you." I said, I knew Radagast the Brown, he had always spoke highly of Gandalf.

"Pleasure is all mine, Emariya." He replied.

Gandalf then called over Alfred, to my disgust, and told him to find us a bed, and some food.

"Keep an eye on them. If they attempt to leave, tell me." I heard Gandalf whisper to him when he thought we were out of earshot. I don't believe Bilbo heard though.

We ate dinner. As soon as Alfred left, Bilbo started whispering. "We must leave early and get back to the mountain."

"Why? Thorin will kill us."

"He'll ever believe that they actually have the Arkenstone, will he?"

"True. Alright, wake me up when we go."

I got into the cot and let my mind wander until I fell asleep, missing the old Thorin.

I loved the old Thorin. But this Thorin? I didn't know what to think.
