AN//I just realized I never made a prologue, haha. Well here it is!:)
~
two and half years earlier

It had been a long and dreadful four hours of waiting for our beloved child to arrive. The sensation of waiting made me feel both eager and anxious, though it had not dawned on me yet that I was going to be a father. Other than that, it felt strange being out of school on a Wednesday morning.

"Aris, honey! I received your text," Mom sighed as she tossed her Vera Bradley designer purse onto the chair in the waiting room.

"Hi Mom, thanks for coming," I smiled as I embraced her warmly.

For some reason, Mom completely ignored my greeting and continued to fantasize emphatically about Mikayla. Before I could begin a conversation with her, she strolled into the room where Mikayla lay on the white hospital bed.

"Oh, honey, don't worry I am almost positive that your birth will go by smoothly." She assured, rubbing Mikayla's shoulder.

Mikayla looked up at her, her brown eyes filled with worry.

Mikayla remained silent as beads of sweat began to form on her forehead. Red rings formed around her eyes; She had stopped crying only moments ago. I could tell she was quite nervous about giving birth, and I definitely did not blame her. I mean, obviously I would never have encounter a similar experience, but whenever she was nervous, I was as well.

"Mikayla, where are your parents?" Mom asked.

I whipped my head around, trying to tell her telepathically that she needed to stop. Once she saw me attempting to stop her, she immediately regretted the question.

"They are not here," Mikayla said in complete monotone," they don't care about having a grandchild." She frowned, turning to face the window that was adjacent to her bed.

Mom's face was rock solid as she heard her response, " Oh, I am so sorry Mikayla I did not  know. . ."

Everything was silent between the three of us while I nonchalantly shoved my hands into my pocket, rocking back and forth on my feet. Suddenly, Mikayla groaned and shifted her position. She looked over at me, her brown eyes flickered with fear again as she mumbled something under her breath.

"Aris, th-the baby is coming." Mikayla muttered as she began to breath heavily, "officially. . . I think."

This is the day I have been waiting for for nine months, and now is the time! Oh God, what if we aren't ready yet?

I quickly raced out into the hallway to receive the nurse's attention. She nodded quickly and came over by Mikayla who was clearly in significant amount of pain.

"Just hang in there, Mikayla. I'm right here for you." I informed her as I grasped her cold hand firmly.

She offered me a quick smile before she let out a long sigh as the contractions continued to evolve. Her face was now more pale than ever and I knew that the tables would be turning in our lives in the next few hours.

"It's a boy!" The nurse exclaimed as she lifted the petite infant gently into her arms, cradling him as he let out a loud cry.

I jumped a bit and glanced down at Mikayla who was smiling at me. Her face wasn't as pale as before, but she looked fatigued. Before going over to check on the baby, I gently squeezed her hand one last time and planted a soft kiss on her forehead.

Mikayla was examining our son as the nurse slowly placed him in her arms. The baby was suddenly silent as his mother's touch soothed him. Mikayla caressed his cheek, making a smile come over her face,

"What should we name him?" I asked Mikayla as I leaned on my head against her bare shoulder.

"Cameron James," Mikayla smiled again," so he gets a little of both sides of the family." She laughed, giving me a wink.

"Sounds fine to me." I smiled back as she handed me Cameron, who was a small six pound baby.

I rocked him in my arms as I watched him sleep peacefully under his blanket. The sight of my son resulted in a huge smile to come upon my lips.

"Well, we have our own kid now. . ." Mikayla sighed," But we can't tell a single soul." Mikayla informed as her eyes hardened.

"Yeah, I won't, don't worry." I convinced with a nod.

But I can't keep promises.
