C.8~ Shopping We Will Go

" Mornin' kiddo." I greeted as I rubbed Cameron's frizzy hair as he stood in front of me. I just realized how blonde is hair was starting to turn and it was actually quite drastic.

Cameron still looked extremely drowsy; he was holding his teddy and bear and sucking his thumb. Poor guy. I knew that was going be an extremely difficult day for him to be in this mood.

"Good morning Daddy." Cameron mumbled, his sentence followed by a long yawn.

"Today is going to be a very busy day." I informed him as I finished up the last spoonful of oatmeal.

"Why?" He asked quietly as he set his hands on the table and began peering over at my bowl of Frosted Flakes that was sitting on the table, slowly transitioning into a soggy form.

" Well, Daddy goes off to college on Monday so I need to go to the store and buy some school necessities." I replied as I walked over to the counter to pour some some cereal for Cameron.

"College? What's that?" Cameron inquired as he examined the cereal box filled with superman comics on the back.

"Well, it is a big place where a lot of big kids learn and stuff. That is where they go after they finish high school. Like me." I responded as I finished Cameron's cereal with the final touch of a strawberry.

"How long?" He replied as he grasped the bowl with his hands and slowly carried it to the table.

"Well," I paused for a moment wishing he had never asked this question. I mean I would be back for only holidays and other special events. I didn't want to tell him straight up that I would not see him for months-until Christmas-but still, I didn't want him to be sad," don't worry about it, okay?"

He looked at me with a sad and confused look all in one but he didn't respond. He just nodded and resumed to eating his cereal.

"I will be right back, I am going to wake up Rose, alright?" I clarified as I began to walk towards her bedroom.

"Okay, Daddy." He replied with a large grin spreading across his face as he shoved the spoonful of Frosted Flakes into his tiny mouth.

Cameron and I were receiving confused stares from people who walked passed us because we had matching outfits on. We were wearing our matching colored red sweatshirts and wearing the same miniature black and white backpacks. We even wore the exact same black and white sweatpants and our brand new shoes.

I didn't care because I had a gut feeling that all of those people were jealous because we sure rocked Costco now.

" Can you grab that box full of crayons for me, Cam?" I asked as I watched Cameron scan the aisle of school supplies surrounding us.

"Daddy, you are a big kid! Big kids don't color in school!" Cameron giggled as he continued grabbing the box that was dangling off of the hook.

"Ah," I sighed," some big kids enjoy coloring in their free time." I answered as I watched him gently place the crayon box in the cart.

Since Rose had to sit in the seat right in front of the handle bars of the cart, Cameron wanted to sit in the cart. So I let him sit there because he was too cute about it.

     I was a pretty nice dad, wasn't I?

" Can I get that big thing? I want that!" Cameron squealed was he pointed towards a Paw Patrol themed backpack that had Chase and Rocky on the front. The backpack read," Let's Roll!"

"Cameron you won't be in school for another year, goofball." I replied as I continued to push the cart forward, away from backpack Cameron was intrigued by at the moment.

"No!" He pouted angrily as he rolled around in the cart.

" Cameron cut it out, you aren't a baby. Please bud, we are in a store and people are looking at you funnily." I pressed as I gritted my teeth, praying that he would not go crazy.

"I want that backpack!" He screamed as he stood up in the cart but then fell back down because I was still moving the cart.

"Oh shit!" I muttered as I ran over by him in the cart. People were definitely staring at us now.

Cameron was pretty much bawling at the moment and people were darting in different directions to try and avoid the crying child in aisle five.

"Please!" He pleaded as he wiped his red eyes and slouched down further inside the cart.

I peered back behind me at Rose to make sure she was still fast asleep. I honestly did not want Cameron to wake her up, or this would  be horrible.

" Fine I a will make you a deal." I countered as I picked him up and rocked him in my arms like I did when he was a baby.

He looked up at me with his sad brown eyes," what is it?"

Finally, a moment of tranquility before he cries all over again.

"How about this," I began," what if we did not buy that backpack but I bought you a paw patrol themed toy or something like that. Is that okay?"

Cameron looked at me and then back at the tiled floor," okay, but can I pick the toy?" He asked, his voice sounding more happy than he did forty seconds ago.

"Of course, let's go over there now." I smiled down at him and thankfully, he smiled back. Which is a very good sign, yay!

Cameron was doing a small happy dance while sitting down in the cart as he spotted the aisle of toys lined up along side of us.

" Legos. . . Star Wars . . . Ninjago . . . Minecraft . . . PAW PATROL!" He shouted as he pretty much leaped out of the cart with excitement.

" Haha, settle down, Cam. Let me take you out of the cart first and then you can pick out your toy. Remember, Rose is sleeping so please be a little quieter, alright? We don't want to wake her up, am I right?" I laughed as I gave him a quick hug as I watched him look through all of the choices.

"I like this one." He finally proclaimed as he handed me a Chase stuffed animal that was about twenty bucks. I mean it was actually pretty huge to be honest.

"Oh alright," I managed as I let out a long sigh in response," do you want me to carry it or are you okay?"

"Uh, I think I am okay." Cameron replied as he fixed the position of Chase in his arms, " I really love Chase ya know." He commented while I placed him in the cart again

" I am sure you do. I mean if you didn't, than I don't know why you wouldn't have bought him." I responded as I pushed the cart back to the school aisle.

"Hey hottie." Some girl commented as she walked passed me, next to her blonde friend who was laughing crazily.

I blushed and continued to walk down the aisle in silence, looking at all the food and clothes surrounding me.

"What does hottie mean?" Cameron piped up as he looked at me curiously.

"Uh, well," What was I supposed to say? "It means that I look hot, like I seriously should take off my sweatshirt or something."

"Oh." He replied as he grasped ahold to his Chase toy tighter against his body. With that big thing in the way, I could barely see his face.

" Yeah. Hey do you want to pick out a backpack for me?" I questioned as we stopped in front of different backpacks.

" Sure!" He relied as I set him down on the floor, watching him race down the line of backpacks, trying to decide which one is right for me.

After a few minutes of waiting, and waiting and waiting, he finally picked out a blue backpack. Which I actually approved. I am sure it would be great for college, and it even has a pocket for my MacBook.

I couldn't blame Cameron for falling asleep in the car on the ride back home. It was at least I good three hours at Costco, non stop. I tried to wake him up in his car seat but he was knocked out like a light.

Coincidentally, Rose woke up around the same time Cameron feel asleep, and she was crying really hard. Most likely because she either had a dirty diaper or she was hungry.

To be honest, I think it is both because usually arose only cries when she has two things bothering her.  I know it is weird but I swear to God that is true.

Once I fed Rose and changed her diaper, I placed her in her monkey rocker thing, so she could relax and play with the mirror and squeaky toys while I took a nap on the couch.

Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day since I have to drive pretty damn far to my college.

A/N~ Okay lol I don't think I can keep promises. I think I decided to post once a week now. These chapters take forever to write, literally.  Sorry I didn't post over Turkey break. It was quite busy tbh.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the book!

Question: Are any of my readers in college?
