On Friday morning, I got out of bed as soon as my alarm went off. I was anxious but excited to wear a gay pride jersey to school, even if the majority of people who knew me didn't know I was gay.
After Dad's daily workout routine, I hosed myself off in the shower and pulled on my jersey. I took a mirror selfie for my streaks. I love my jersey.
Dylan responded to my streaks with a selfie of his face. He had temporary tattoo rainbows on his cheeks and was smiling widely.
I grinned at the picture. He was so cute!
When I got to Spanish, I realized that Jack wasn't there. It wasn't until after Señora started taking role call that he burst into the room.
Oh my god.
Jack was wearing his lesbian pride jersey, but he was also wearing red high heels, a rainbow tutu, a face full of makeup, and a sign around his neck that said "WHAT IS GENDER?"
I felt my pants get... tighter.
Jack strutted to his seat. All eyes were on him. He saw people staring, but he just blew a kiss at them and opened up his Spanish binder. Jack caught my eye and winked.
I blushed deeply and looked down at my lap. I couldn't wait for the game. That's a sight- a teen boy, practically in drag, running up and down the bleachers.
I don't think the football team has ever gotten as many stares as we did during lunch.
We were quite the sight. All of us in our pride jerseys, Jack in his drag, Dylan with his rainbow face- it was the greatest thing I've ever been a part of.
That night in the locker room, we could hear Jack hyping up the crowd louder than they've ever been hyped up. I looked out and saw him running all over the stands. I could see Dylan sitting and talking with a girl named Kelsey. He caught my eye and smiled and waved to me. I waved back.
The announcer stated speaking into the loudspeaker.
"Please give a big welcome to the Tuscan High Cheetahs!"
I heard the visitors section go wild. I pulled my helmet over my face and took a breath.
"And now, your home team, the Stilton High Serpents!"
The cheers were deafening. I felt so alive. This is why I play football.

It was a total shut out.
64-0.
We won.
This was the best I've played all season. I don't know what it was, but something made me dominate that field.
After the game, Dylan was the first to come up to me. He congratulated me and hugged me tightly. I'm lucky I had my helmet on; I was a blushing mess.
The next person was Jack. He almost took me down, he was squeezing me so tightly.
"YOU DID IT. YOU. DID. IT," Jack screeched, jumping up and down, hugging me enthusiastically.

After the game, Dad drove me and Jack home. We were talking about all the plays excitedly.
"...and when Randy had the ball? And he just KICKED THE GUY JUMPED OVER HIM? That was the BEST!"
I laughed. Jack was so adorable. If only he knew how incredibly nervous I was for him to come over. I'm not quite sure what I do on Friday nights could ever measure up to what he does on Friday nights.
Once we pulled into the garage, Jack and I hopped out and went in. He hadn't been to my house before, so I led him down to my basement, aka where I spend ALL of my time.
Jack threw his bag on the couch and plopped down next to it. Our couch was an "L" shaped one, so I sat down on the side that he wasn't occupying.
"I basically spend all my time down here," I told Jack. Jack smiled.
"It's really cozy in here. I like it," he said. Then he turned to me. "By the way, before this gets too weird, is there a place I can change out of this?"
"Oh!" I laughed. "Yeah! Down the hall and to the right."
"Thanks! See you in a minute!"
***and pausing there for tonight***
