Chapter 4- the difference
White Lily Cookie gently took the book from him and opened it to the table of contents.
It was a list of the five known soul jams, then one on the Silver Tree, and five more chapters with the beast's jams.
Black Raisin was looking over White Lily's shoulder to read some as well, and raised a brow, "How come the beasts soul jams also called 'light of-' whatever?"
White Lily's brows furrowed at that call out, before shaking her head, "I don't know but I don't think it matters that much. Some people just aren't creative."
Light Blueberry went to speak but bit his tongue. Explaining to the light of freedom why the light of silence could still be a good thing in the right situations would take more trust...
If he ever earned that trust to begin with. He did believe he could earn trust from White Lily Cookie, she was the most like the beasts. It would just take some work.
White Lily had flipped to the page on the light of deceit, and was grazing over it, "flipped version...has an eye...held by shadow milk cookie in the-we already know all of this. Is there another book?"
Light Blueberry looked to the walls, "Uhm..there's a document..here."
He pulled it out of a container and handed it over, taking the book to put back. White Lily opened the Manila folder.
" 'Study of the soul jams: the beasts' well at least this is more specific..." she flipped through the scientific study and found the section on the light of deceit, and began to recite, "'the light of deceit is theorized to be the reason cookies can lie and create false stories.'"
Black Raisin Cookie frowned, "Don't you think we should just destroy those 'lights'? If no one could lie the world would be a much better place. Lies just hurt people."
Light Blueberry Cookie looked at Black Raisin with a blank expression at first...before smiling, "Your cloak is very pretty, Black Raisin cookie."
Black Raisin looked at him confused...but she did really like it. She smiled back, "Thanks...I didn't think you could be nice-"
"I...think he's lying, Black Raisin," White Lily mumbled, sort of glaring at Light Blueberry.
Light Blueberry didn't mind, he always had a plan, even when insane. He nodded, "Yeah, I personally think it's more 'cool' than 'pretty'...but what do you prefer, Black Raisin cookie?"
"I...well...pretty, but why did you lie!? It was pointless!" She accused, glaring at him.
"But did it make you feel better?"
There was a lingering silence. White Lily read further on the document but didn't take much of it in. It was just about how the soul jams affect greater Earthbread, not an individual.
She sighed and closed the document, "You made your point, Light Blueberry cookie, but I agree with Black Raisin cookie. The majority of things would be better if people just told the truth."
Light Blueberry scoffed, "And you would have told the truth to your friends if Pure Vanilla hadn't?"
White Lily didn't say anything, just going to the shelf herself...she...she didn't know. Her friends deserved to be mad at her, to be livid. But it did hurt, a lot. Holly Berry won't even mention it, Golden Cheese doesn't talk to her, and Dark Cacao...well he flipped between being friendly and spiteful. Even Pure Vanilla always had this lingering sense of hurt behind his eyes whenever he looked at her.
Light Blueberry waited for an answer, before shaking his head, "It's always the same..."
The truth hurt just as much as lies, he knew that better than anyone.
"Why don't you just back off, huh?" Black Raisin spoke up, "You're the last person who can go all preachy on anyone else."
Light Blueberry Cookie looked at her, "I believe I have the most right."
"No! You're the worst out of anyone! You crumbled thousands of cookies for entertainment!"
"It didn't start that way, you don't know what it was like. And you speak all accusingly towards me when Dark Enchantress, or, White Lily Cookie did the exact same thing!"
"Pure Vanilla Cookie explained it to me, it's very different."
White Lily tried to ignore them, now just taking all the books and documents about the soul jams from the wall to take them with. She'd have to write to the others for an emergency meeting...this was going to take longer than anticipated.
White Lily looked back to the two, who were now face to face, Light Blueberry looking down on Black Raisin.
"You are an idiot then," he hissed, truly believing it. Who would just blindly trust anyone to no end! Sure, trust someone until something comes to make you question it. If nothing can make you question the world are you truly living at all? He didn't think so! And if she wanted him to be so truthful then fine-
And like he thought, the truth brought just as much pain as lies. Black Raisin shoved him back, raising a fist, "You want to get hit again you evil beast?!-"
As Light Blueberry Cookie lost his balance, he let go of his cane. He didn't need it for any physical purposes but...
The platform began to shake beneath them as the cane fell over. White Lily looked confused before shock, the cane then fell through the center of the platform as it began to crumble away.
"MY SCEPTER-"
And he went diving after it. White Lily almost thought he'd become a madman again, but then she and Black Raisin also lost their footing as the rest of the platform faded away and they began to fall to their doom.
Black Raisin was screaming like a little cookie, as her birds tried to flap their little wings and slow her descent. White Lily struggled to hold the papers and books and clutch her staff tight enough.
If they hit the floor they'd crumble she had to do something. She looked down, the ground rocketing towards them and she very quickly cast a shrubbery spell.
Light Blueberry outstretched his hand to the staff, nearly catching it in his fingertips before a plume of soft shrubs sprouted from the wood floor and smacked him in the face with his cane.
It lifted him back up a bit before the two girls landed in it as well, all three breathing heavily, and Black Raisin finally stopped screaming.
White Lily stayed on her back, trying to blink away the images of the witch's banquet from her mind as she caught her breath. She saved herself this time, she changed her fate...she is okay...
"What...was that...for..." Black Raisin breathed out, sitting up and looking at Light Blueberry.
The scholarly cookie let out a groan and fixed his glasses on his face again, huffing, "I can't cast magic without my scepter..you pushed me and I lost my grip.."
White Lily let out a soft chuckle, making both other cookies look at her.
She let out a deep sigh, "The herald of knowledge...first headmaster of a magic school...and holder of the light of deceit previously and light of truth currently...has magiclexia..."
If you get the magiclexia reference we need to become best friends.
If you don't it's from a very good fantasy book trilogy I seriously recommend.
Either way I hope you enjoyed the chapter! I enjoyed writing it...light blueberry cookie is truly a nerd at heart. But not hopeless—
