6.1 – Traditional Food and cooking

+ boiled/steamed green veg & root veg.

→ Reputation: bland & heavy

- Present: cuisine influenced by immigrations → much more interesting

+ National dish: Chicken tikka masala

+ Traditional dishes: Sunday roast dinner, fish & chips, “a cooked breakfast”, meat pies, etc.

- Britons have a tradition of giving dishes strange and surprising names.

6.2 - Drinks

a. Tea – traditional drink

- Complicated when drinking tea

+ make the tea with milk

+ mix the biscuit, cake

+ eat drinking equilaterally at the same time

+ tea may be strong and dark, but with a lot of milk.

- Afternoon tea : 4 o’clock + a small meal

- High tea : 5-7 o’clock + a sustainable meal

c. Beer & wine

- Beer: Most popular drink among men in UK

- About 80% of adult Britons: regular pub goers

- UK: 6th highest beer consumption in the world
