Reconnection.(Palace Cook Fritz x Princess Reader)

A/n:I have so many ideas with this whole princess, knights etc,i hope you don't mind ^^ also, there will be a little note at the end regarding some bigs news ❤

Her little body ran through the rich garden full of flowers, holding on to her little dress.

She hid herself behind some sunflowers, trying to stop herself from giggling.

Another pair of footsteps grew close, covering her mouth and holding her dress close to herself so she won't be seen.

The footsteps stopped, and there was silence.

The little girl blinked, turning around and gently pushing the sunflowers to the side,to check if he was around.

"Gah!"The little boy jumped on her view, making her slightly yelp.

"Oh no!The dragon is here!"

As she picked herself up,she started running away from the little boy as she was giggling and also fake screaming.

The boy tried to catch up,going after her with a giggle.

During this little play, they were being watched over by two adult figures.

The Queen smiled, taking the cup from the table and bringing it close to her lips, sipping her tea.

"How can you feel at peace with yourself, eyeing this?"

The woman rolled her eyes, setting the cup of tea on the table.

"My love, they are just kids, let them play."

The King huffed, crossing his arms as he watched his little princess was playing around with the other kid.

"They are so many other kids at her age wanting to play, nobles and princes! And you think it is suitable for her to play around with a peasant boy?"

Her fierce eyes glared at him, lacing her fingers together.

"She is still a kid.Let her be a kid,she doesn't have to worry about this palace duties yet."

"And when she will have to?We need to teach her from a young age what is right and wrong!"

"And what exactly is wrong?Talking to someone who isn't our class?"She slammed her hand on the little table, making the tea set slightly shake."She will grow up in a world that she will view everyone as equal, not be above everyone. That, will make her an excellent Queen."

The male's eyes went wide, but then glared back at her, standing up from his seat.

"The idiotic ideas of a woman will tear this kingdom down."

And with that,he turned his heel and left, making large steps along the garden and inside the castle.

The Queen exhaled deeply, rubbing her fingers along her forehead, already feeling another migraine coming up.

"Mommy,mommy!"

But the sound of her daughter made her skin relax, lifting her eyes and seeing the little girl along with the ginger head boy.

"My sweetheart, are you enjoying yourself with little Smith over here?"

The girl nodded with a big smile, holding his little pale hand to her hand.

The older woman smiled, looking over to the boy."Fritz,i think your father called you out before,he is in the kitchen."

He blinked behind his glasses, that were too big for his face.

"Thank you my lady."

He did a quick bow and ran off, leaving mother and daughter alone.

"Come here."She patted her lap,as she helped the little girl climb her long dress before letting her sit comfortably on her lap.

Her (colour) eyes looked up at her mother, who was giving her the gentlest smile in the whole kingdom.

"(Y/N),i am going to tell you something and i want you to listen to me very carefully."

The girl blinked confused, feeling her large hands cupping her little ones.

"The world can be a dangerous place, trying to push away the good people so the bad people will come to the top."

Suddenly, between her little hands felt a piece of jewelry, but she didn't look at it yet.

"Don't let that happen.Always do what's best for your kingdom."

Their eyes locked at that moment,as her mother placed a kiss on her forehead.

"I love you so much,my sweet little (Y/N)."

~~

I was way too young to understand what my mother meant back then.

After all,as a kid,you always see the good in people.

But now i understood what she meant.

"Mother, today is my eighteenth year, and i am becoming the new Queen."

Her reflection on the mirror made her almost collapse,as she was wearing the dress of her coronation.

Her eyes stared at herself,as her hands were laced with one another.

"Suddenly,i understand what you meant, back when i was a kid, sitting on your lap in the garden."

Heavy footsteps of knights were running around the palace, guarding every hallway and every corner.

"The world is so cruel after all."

Her fingers reached at the little drawer in her vanity, pushing the drawer outwards.

"But i will try and keep my promise."

She lifted up from the little wooden box a necklace, having a small oval piece hanging from it.

"I love you mother."

With a lowering head, she finished what she had to say, gripping on the little necklace she was wearing.

She tried to not let tears roll down her cheeks,as she inhaled and exhaled deeply.

She let the little sunflower rest near the gravestone,as she found some courage to lift herself up with the heavy dress.

She was back inside the castle,as her maids and royal followers were cleaning her up from any dirt or grass before guiding her towards the doors of the throne room.

"You look magnificent my lady."

"You will look even more magnificent with the crown on your head!"

"Or with a prince by your side!"

The maids giggled, blushing at their little comments as (Y/N) sighed.

"Enough ladies,i won't be needing your help from now on."

The maids pouted, walking away but still whispering to each other little things which made her roll her eyes.

This is it.

The moment i have been preparing my whole life.

The trumpets from the other side of the door could be heard,as the guards opened the doors for her.

Her fingers intertwined together,as she walked along the red carpet with gold decoration displayed along the fabric.

Her eyes were looking forward, straight to her father who was waiting for her by the throne.

The music stopped once she approached, bowing down to her father and making the dress puff out on the floor, lowering her head.

Her father was talking, saying things she has heard before,as she was waiting for the final part which was her turn to speak.

The older man turned to the side,as a guard was holding a pillow with a sword laying on top of it.

He carefully took it,laying the sharp end on her left shoulder.

"With this sword, you will carry the kingdom on your shoulders,no matter how heavy the weight is.Do you accept it?"

"Yes,i accept it."

He lifted the blade and pressed it on her other shoulder, and then placed it back on the pillow where the guard was holding it before.

He turned to the other way, seeing the crown resting on a pillow as he grabbed the sides of it,lifting it up.

"I hereby declare you,(Y/N) (L/N),Queen of the Guardian Kingdom, leader of us all."

The crown rested delicately upon her head, lifting up her head and seeing the hands of the guards, taking them so she could get herself up.

"Long live the Queen!"

The crowd repeated the phrase, clapping and cheering as she looked at them with a smile along her lips.

Right after the coronation, there was a celebration ball in the castle, with lots of food and dancing, with the best musicians and noble families coming all the way from the other side of the country to celebrate her crowning.

She was sitting on her throne, looking at everyone dancing and celebrating with beer and wine,as she was simply sitting, nodding her head slightly to people who were passing by and bowing to her.

All those years,at least i managed to master the fake smile on my face.

I want to be down there, celebrating with my people.

Sitting here like that, away from everyone.

I feel so alienated.

Her eyes looked around the ballroom, gazing at the musicians to the dancing crowd.

But she stopped the moment she saw the buffet.

Her mouth suddenly watered, blinking and shaking her head.

Focus,you can't lose composure now.

But her (colour) eyes looked back at the buffet, but this time it wasn't the food that got her attention.

Orange hair stood out from the crowd,as the familiar figure was filling the empty large plates with fresh food.

But once he was done, taking all the empty plates and walking out of the ballroom.

Her hands gripped the sides of her throne, standing up.

"Your majesty,i will advise you to remain seated."

One of the guards commented, looking over at her.

She looked between him and the open door where Fritz walked through, swallowing hard.

"I need to powder my nose, ser Mike."

Mike blinked,visibly confused.

The other knight near her, leaned over to him, whispering something to him as his cheeks were bright red.

Mike nodded,exhaling slightly.

"Very well, ser Jeremy will accompany you."

The brown haired knight jumped on his spot, blushing even more.

"There is no need to,i will be back shortly.Thank you."

She picked up her dress, walking between the crowds of people before letting the two knights utter something more.

She was out of sight, walking down the somewhat busy hallway with guests and members of the castle.

Her footing stopped right in front of the kitchen door, feeling her heart almost leaving her heavy chest.

She pushed the wooden door open, making a creaking sound.

"Finally someone decided to help me!I have been managing a whole kitchen all by myself tonight!Even the waiters aren't around!"

He huffed, pushing his round glasses up to his nose as he was mixing something in the large pot over the fire.

She stepped closer, hoping he would turn around and notice her,but he was consumed in his own world.

"Don't stand there,i can't feed a whole kingdom all by myself!"

"I have never seen so much anger in your voice."

His hand stopped its actions, almost freezing in his place.

"You were always so gentle with everyone."

He exhaled,lowering his head.

"Your majesty, you shouldn't be in the kitchen, your people are in the ballroom."

"Why not?"She looked around at the messy kitchen, dragging her hand along a counter with herbs."I was always here when we were kids, playing around and helping your father."

"Leave."

She stopped, looking at him as his pale freckled arms were gripping at the counter.

"Look at me Fritz."

She took another step closer,as her hand hesitantly rested on his arm.

He flinched, brushing her hand off which made her eyes go wide.

"Alright,i see."

She turned around.

"I am sorry for disturbing you."

And with that, she walked out of the kitchen, making his eyes look at the door where she walked out of.

~~

She got herself out of the heavy clothing, sitting on her little seat in front of her large vanity with the mirror.

Her fingers took a hold of her crown, setting it down with a sigh.

She was only wearing her undergarments, looking at herself with a sad expression.

Her eyes noticed the necklace she was wearing, holding the oval piece close to her heart.

The only person i had close to me.

And he doesn't even want to look at me.

"I would do anything to have him again.Please."She murmured to herself, gripping tightly the necklace.

Suddenly, there was a crashing sound coming from outside her open windows.

"Oh for heaven's sake!"

Followed up with an irritated man.

The girl looked over to her open windows, peeking outside to see the familiar ginger head collecting things that fell on the ground.

Where is he going at that hour?

It is pitch black outside,he can get hurt!

Without thinking it twice, she stood herself up and rushed to her closet, pulling out a large nightgown and wearing flat slippers, covering up herself.

She slowly opened up the door, gazing left and right, but no one was in sight.

She knew the castle like the back of her hand, and thanks to the maids gossiping, she knew even some secret passages.

After managing to walk past some guards, she was found in the garden area, noticing his figure taking a hold of his horse.

He made sure whatever he was packing up was secured, before getting on top of the animal.

The female rushed to the stables, looking around and trying to find her trusty horse she had since childhood.

Her eyes shined in the dark the moment she saw her horse,as he moved his head slightly under her gentle touch.

"Alright,if i remember correctly."

She tried to put the reins and saddle on the horse, moving it outside.

She propped herself on the top, taking a hold of the reins.

"We are going in secret right now.So easy does it."

She petted his neck as she moved slightly the reins so the horse will start moving.

Fritz wasn't far away, going slow and steady with his own horse.

The village was quiet, everyone sound asleep with no worries of what was going on in the streets.

The ginger male managed to reach his destination,as (Y/N) was hiding in an alleyway.

His father's bakery?

Puzzled, she got off the horse, tying the reins in a sturdy spot so it won't run away.

She peeked from the window, seeing him behind the counter as he walked in another room in the back.

Her hand slowly pushed the door open, walking inside and looking around at the space she hasn't be around in years.

"What are you doing here son?"

She turned her head towards the direction of the voice, making slow movements behind the counter.

"I am not going to leave you alone with the shop, you are sick too!"

"Nonsense!I am fine!Feeling young like a baby!"But before he could continue,he started coughing.

"Come on,lay down.I will open the bakery in a few hours."

"But,your duties at the castle."

"They can wait."

He interrupted him with a sigh, exhaling deeply.

"It is only going to be one day, they have so many people to look after them,i think the cook will be the last of their worries."

His father exhaled, leaning back on his pillow."You use every opportunity you have to stay away from the castle."

"I use every opportunity to stay close with you.The money they give me are good,it helps me pay for your medicine, but only to that point."

(Y/N) lowered her head, unaware of this situation as she took a step back.

I guess i failed to notice his condition with his father, when i could have helped.

I was drowned in my own world.

As her footing went backwards, her slipper pressed on a sack laying on the ground, making her lose her balance as she fell on top it with a yelp.

A thud reached both of the males' ears,as Fritz stood up.

He signalized for his father to stay in bed,as he was ready to get up.

He grabbed the broom by the door, inching slowly outside of the room.

The figure was from head to toe covered in flour, coughing as she tried to dust it off from her nightgown.

But her spine felt an uneasy tremble, turning around and avoiding the broom from hitting her, getting past her cheek.

"I had problems with rats the other night, now i will have troubles with thieves!"

"No!Fritz,it's me!" She tried to grip the broomstick from hitting her again,as her other hand tried to wipe away the flour.

"Princess!"

She awkwardly smiled, which only earned a glare from him.

She was sitting on the counter, watching him wet a rag and passing it to her.

"Thank you."She hesitantly took it,cleaning up her face and arms.

He didn't say anything,as he tried to clean around the messy floor.

"I am sorry."

His eyes lifted up,looking at her.

"For the flour,i will replace it."

He rolled his eyes, swiping the flour from the floor.

Silence once again.

Her fingers gripped at the wet rag, swallowing hard.

"Did i do something wrong?"

Silence from his part.

"Please talk to me."

"Dear heaven's,what!"

She jumped on her spot, looking at his fierce eyes behind his glasses.

"You are not the Fritz i remember."

"You are not the (Y/N) i remember either."

She was taken aback,blinking confused.

"I was there for you,in every difficult part of your life, but then you started having royal duties to do,cutting ties with me,to the point of kicking my father out of the palace!"

"That wasn't my choice!"

She got off the counter, coming face to face with him.

"But what about everything else?"

She stayed silent, clenching her hands into fists.

"I never asked for much, only for your company. But you walked away, brushed me off when i needed you the most."

He exhaled rather deeply, walking past her as he leaned himself against the counter.

He was gazing at his shoes,as silence fell in the room.

"We met here for the first time."He suddenly said, making her look over to him."Do you rememeber?"

She couldn't help but smile, crossing her arms.

"Yes,me and my mother were strolling around the town, and the scent of baked goods made my tummy all hungry."She giggled, looking over to the door."We walked inside, and your father greeted us,and a little boy was trying to help him.

"Key word;trying."

They both managed a laugh.

"It was my first time meeting someone my age,and we became such good friends."

"To the point where your mother hired my father as the palace cook,so we could play around even more."

He seemed reminiscing of those old days, rubbing the bridge of his nose where his glasses were resting with a sigh.

"Fritz."

Her gentle voice made him look over to her,as her hands that were still covered in flour took a hold of his.

"Let's start over,please."

"(Y/N),i am not sure."

"Please."She gripped his hand, lowering her head."I don't want to lose you too."

He knew her mother meant the world to her,but he didn't know he was that important to her.

But,what if things turned out differently?

We aren't kids anymore.

Many and different feelings could interfere and ruin this friendship we were trying so hard to salvage.

His busy thoughts made him shake his head with a groan, returning the grip on her delicate hands.

"Let's try this."

Her eyes sparkled from the tears that were slightly glossing her eyeballs, jumping into his embrace and hugging his round body.

He was taken aback, but didn't hesitate to return the hug, nuzzling against her, only to get flour on his face.

"Not in my kitchen you concupiscent youngsters!"

His eyes went wide hearing his father's chuckle, pulling away and looking at him with red cheeks.

"Papa! Why did you get up from your bed?"

"And let you scandalize my kitchen with the princess? Not on my watch!"

It was obvious his father was teasing the young male, whose pale cheeks were redder than ever, trying to get him back to bed as (Y/N) was silently laughing in the back.

But maybe in the end, this reconnection will have a much bigger impact than they thought.
