wow I write things that aren't depressing?
Charlie's hand pressed against her window. Ice cold. Sure, she was aware it was wintertime, but usually, it wasn't all that cold.. She pulled herself up, in order to look out from the frosty glass, but still couldn't see much.
"If there's nothing there, then why's it so cold..?" Charlie mumbled, a childlike mimic of the strange detective shows her father would leave on the television. Her breath puffed against the window, fogging and hazing the surface. Quickly, she wiped it away and revealed-
Snow. It was actually snowing. It was actually snowing! It was actually snowing!! The excited young girl hollered, leaping from her bed, trying to get herself ready to leave as soon as possible and face the cold air. She tugged on her puffy jacket, attempting to break the hanger just to free it. She needed it. It was a life or death scenario, in her mind.
As Charlie struggled with her coat, her father attempted to make hot chocolate. Emphasis on "attempted." After a few minutes of struggling, he just decided to use the instant packets they'd had up in the cupboard. Lifesaving.
After the few minutes it took to prepare the cups ( and top Charlie's with an incessant amount of whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, and nearly every other sugar based item in the kitchen ), Henry began to slowly make the climb up the stairs to Charlie's room. He really, really did not want to spill the contents of either cup. Even so, Charlie's would definitely be the least likely to give him a third degree burn.
Setting the cups down at a small bookshelf by the door, Henry chose to listen instead of barging in. Bad idea. The hyperactive child's door flew open, surprising her father even before she'd begun shouting her triumphant decree of "SNOW DAAAAAAAY!!" and almost bolting downstairs. However, she had failed to compensate for her dad at the door and ran into his leg, full child speed.
"Oww!!! Daaaaad!!" Charlie whined, falling against the floor with an overdramatic thunk. Luckily for her, she'd actually managed to free the brightly colored jacket, and it acted as a strange cushion, slowly sinking down with her rather limited weight. Her father laughed softly before crouching beside her.
"Now what exactly were you planning to do when you ran down the stairs?" Henry attempted to keep the smile off of his face while he spoke. He knew, if she went out in the snow, that she'd become a cold, wet mess. So he didn't acknowledge the cocoa yet. He'd need to save it.
"I wanted to go play in the snooowww!!" Charlie pouted, trying her best to do the sad puppy dog eyes. Those eyes had to convince her dad! They didn't.
"How about we compromise? I'll give you-" Henry reached up and grabbed the sugary cup of cocoa, setting it beside her,"- One cup of hot chocolate, a seat at the fireplace, and some Disney movies?" He smiled, grabbing his own cup and sipping slowly.
Charlie groaned, licking off some of the whipped cream in fake disappointment. "Fine. But I'm only doing this for the cocoa." She grinned, sitting up and throwing off the jacket. "Now let's go get some blankets!"
