Dick didn't do valentines day, not really. He loved his partner with all his heart everyday of the year and tried to spoil them now and then when it wouldn't put them in any money troubles. He didn't need a single, random special day to go all out and try to woo or spoil his partner. 

His partner would always feel loved and well cared for all year around, or as much of the whole year as possible. Valentines day just set couples up to buy their partners affection otherwise risk looking like they don't love them at all. 

That wasn't Dick. 

He didn't want to feel threatened into buying his partners love with overprized chocolates, decorations, flowers or anything else the stores sold at unreasonable prize with the promise of making your special someone happy. 

Hence, Dick simply didn't do Valentines.

He was happy to stay at home, maybe order in take out or cook something more grand than normal. But he wouldn't dress up and he wouldn't risk them living from pay check to pay check for a single day of wooing. 

Roy never really had a relationship last long enough to celebrate February 14th, anniversaries or special dates for a couple. Valentines day had always been another normal day for him that just proved he was single and alone. 

And if he ended up with a date for Valentines he'd be ditching them for the hero gig instead without a second thought. Showing what he saw as more important, the hero world instead of their relationship. 

Valentines day was something that he merely acknowledged before carrying on with his life like normal. Maybe buy a few chocolates for himself if they were on special offer and his favourites but nothing more grand. 

Hence when Roy and Dick had started dating, neither placed much effect in for Valentines day. February the 14th was just an average day for them and they treated it as such. Neither seemed to minded over the other not doing anything special and kept it that way. 

Until they moved in together just before Christmas this year. In truth, Dick was practically already living with Roy and Lian for a couple of years already. Half of his belongings were already at the apartment and he ate as many meals possible with the father and daughter duo. Dick was one of Lian's emergency contracts for her school, before Oliver and was regularly dropping her off to school on his way to work.  

Moving in wasn't a big thing for the family, it just meant his name was officially added to the apartment leash and he no longer had to pay rent between Roy's place and his own. 

This year, Lian, deciding to mention something over the upcoming Valentines day. Mentioning over a classmate's parents had offered to hold a sleep over on February 14th for parents to gain a free babysitter on the night and have their own romantic date or plans without a child getting in the way. 

Roy commented over how nice it was for the parents to do. Every parent of the class knew the child's parents were getting a devoice but were still living under roof to co-parent. Both parents seemed happier as roommates now.

"You'll need to phone their homeline to mention that you'll accept their offer" Lian mumbled back from where she was munching her cereal. 

"Sweetie-pie, I think the sleepover is for the parents who are celebrating Valentines day. It's not a sleepover for everyone to join" Dick pointed out with a small but kind smile as he glanced to his step-daughter, wondering if she got mixed up over the reason for the sleepover. 

"Aren't you going to do something for Valentines day?" Lian asked in surprise as she glanced between her Dad and Tati. 

"Why don't we celebrate it as a family. It's meant to be a day for all those you love. The two people I love most is in this room right now" Roy offered up with a gentle smile as he glanced between those he love most. Knowing he won't want to spend the day with anyone else but them. 

A grumpy bark from the living room reminded Roy that his family of three was actually a family of four now that his boyfriend lived with them full time. Lian and Dick snickering as Roy deflated over his big warming moment and glanced to where the small grey dog came hurrying into the kitchen. 

"And Haley" Roy added on with a sigh, his eyes fond as he looked down to the dog who perked up over being added to the list of those he love most.
