Bruce wasn't planning to let the league learn over his so-ward.
His legal ward. Not son, he agreed to not replace Dick's father.
Even if he might have unconsciously broken that agreement already, he can at least not confess his crime out loud.
Robin have taken to the skies for the past three years.
Robin was an urban legend outside of Gotham, no one believe such a light could have survived in a place like Gotham.
No one blamed them for thinking Robin was a myth, even Gotham was frighten over the sunshine hope disappearing among the shadows someday.
Robin had stood as a beacon of hope longer than Superman has, and only Gotham knew that fact to be true.
Bruce adored Dick, loved him as his son and might be willing to look the other way as Gotham burns if the bitter and dangerous lady city ever stole the boy's smile away.
But that only left Batman not daring for his comrades to meet or learn over his son.
He knew most wouldn't agree over Robin taking flight at his age and feared that some might even dare to steal his boy away from him.
He didn't trust his comrades, the league had barely been standing for a year. And why he knew how to take down every single hero within the justice league and out, he still wouldn't expose his weakness to them so soon.
It's why agreed to the league meeting being held today, on Father's day, to not risk any suspicion that he might have a family outside of his hunt for Justice.
Dick helped, he's never joined in for Father's day so far since being taken in. Bruce didn't mind, he didn't start celebrating father's day for Alfred until after he'd completed his world tour training for Batman and realized how much of a father figure the aging butler was to him.
That didn't leave him not feeling drowning warmth as he found an handmade card, with way too much glitter, laid on the batmoblie's hood when he went to head out towards mount justice. Bruce still planned to frame the card made out of paper and clearly designed by hand by his twelve year old son.
Most at Dick's age would be moving to buying cards and presents for a parent now. But Bruce understood how precious it was to receive a handmade gift from Dick. The circus didn't always have spare money from their earnings to buy gifts or fancy cards, anything hand made showed that the person truly cared for the receiver of the gift or card due to the time and thought being placed into creating the gift.
"Happy Guardian Day, B" Was scribbled on the inside of the folded paper card. Drawing over Batman and Robin covered the front with hearts and bats. Still way too much glitter used and Bruce was left holding his arm out straight with the card to stop any from falling on his suit or cape.
"Alfred.." Bruce spoke quietly over the coms, heading towards the closest table to where the batmoblie was parked.
"Are you in need of my assistance, Master Bruce?" Alfred simply asked as he he prepared breakfast for the youngest member of the family who'd soon be waking up.
"Find a frame while I'm away, please" Bruce asked of his father figure, placing the card down on the table to keep it safe for now.
"Of course, sir. I take it that the young master had left his card in the "perfect" spot to be found" Alfred questioned, already knowing the answer but hinting that his grandson had thought overly hard on where to leave his gift after patrol the night before.
"I wouldn't have missed it, that's for sure" Bruce confessed with a small amused smirk pulled on his lips, knowing his son had chosen the best spot to lay his awaiting gift out to be found by him.
"I'm sure the young master will be pleased to hear so" Alfred admitted, a smile heard in his voice.
Bruce spoke no more and soon returned back to the batmoble. Starting it up and driving out to mount justice. Knowing the base for the newly formed league would be a couple hours drive even with Batman's improved vehicle.
Leaving him plenty of time to notice something hidden up in bright yellow tissue paper that was scrunched up and left on the passenger seat. Bruce lifted an curious eyebrow over the object, unsure what he may find wrapped within the tissue paper.
Moving with caution as he picked the item up and slowly started to unwrap it after a decent twenty minutes of staring at it. Deeming it couldn't be any form of traps or a form of danger towards him.
Breath hitching as he found a white mug inside, throwing the tissue paper down on the passenger seat to be able to gain a better look at the mug on it's own. Staring at the two words written in red and blue across the front of the mug.
"Super Dad"
It was clear to read and such a basic father's day gift.
But it was his.
Dick had bought him a father's day gift.
And called him Dad.
Batman wasn't one to show emotion.
But no one could see inside the batmoblie as Bruce Wayne broke down from all the emotions forced out of him from the single present gifted to him.
He was a father, maybe not by blood or legally but Dick saw him as his second Dad and that was the best gift that Bruce has ever been blessed with in his life so far.
Extra:
"Did you like it?" Dick shyly asked as he glanced up to his dad, hoping he didn't upset his guardian with the gift. Even after having spent half the day with him and creating memories together, he was still worried over it all being fake and having Bruce throw him out by morning.
"I haven't stopped using it since I opened it" Bruce pointed out, nodding towards the refilled mug of hot chocolate. Poor Alfred's been washing it out between his swaps of tea, coffee and now hot chocolate, all being demanded to be done in that mug.
In truth Bruce had thought over buying a special glass case to keep the mug inside. Maybe even place it in one of his smaller safes to protect it. He wanted it to last forever. But he also wanted to brag and show off his father's day present, to gleeful tell everyone over what his son had gotten him that day.
"I wanted to give you the best present. But I wanted it to be honest too" Dick mumbled back with a small smile, needing his thoughts to be released.
"Super Dad" Bruce read the words on the mug, still warmed up by the unspoken actions given with that mug.
"You're my other Dad and you're my hero. You're my real life hero. So, super Dad" Dick admitted with a bright and blinding smile as he stared up at his other dad and his real life hero.
And Bruce Wayne only held his son closer and tighter in the bundle of blankets they laid in. Watching old cartoons together and bonding as father and son on father's day.
