The Justice League had witnessed the changes and the growth of the bat-family since the justice league was formed by Batman.
They've all stood witness to when Batman had grown to be a single parent over night and struggling with an assassin raised child.
They've all grown to know Damian better, as he stood as Batboy to Reaper.
Reaper had caused the most heated fight between son and father than ever before. Bruce had feared his son would return to taking lives than saving them. Damian deciding on Reaper as his new hero name as he always pictures himself standing as death, watching and knowing when it's a person's time. He wasn't planning to take anyone's life, he was just going to appear once it was time to catch the criminal or save the civilian.
Miscommunication had brought an end to Batman and Batboy, for Bruce and Damian.
Their relationship never held a chance to repair as a new Batboy had stood beside Batman just a week later. Timothy Drake, a boy who had stalked the two vigilantes for years before and had took up self defence training from the Wayne's in hopes to keep him safe.
A new son adopted once the Drakes had signed their parental rights away after an conversation with Bruce Wayne in private.
The Justice League had welcomed Timothy with open arms, knowing it wasn't the teens fault for the damaged bond held between father and son. But none of them could hide their shame whenever they caught Damian watching how welcoming everyone had been towards his unwanted and unneeded brother.
All of them knew that Timothy had settled in much sooner and easier than Damian had.
They had all been young, all unsure how to handle the oldest son and that wasn't a good enough excuse. They all knew it.
Stephanie and Cass, Batgirl and Swan soon joined the family too. Followed by Duke, spoiler who stood as a daytime hero. Duke was mostly already an adult but he had been given a spot in the family if he chose to accept it.
Damian stood from the side lines, growing further apart from the family he once held. Having once placed in effect to join his family but had grown to be a scapegoat. A scapegoat so obvious that Talia had offered her hand to her son and promised him a spot beside her throne once more. Knowing that his father could no longer give her son the life she had wanted for him.
With Talia sniffing around her son again, distrust only grew between Damian and his family once more. Those new to it were willing to give him a chance to explain, to prove himself. Those who had already had a broken and shattered relationship were quick to accuse him over all he had not even done.
Jason was the latest sibling. Choosing to be Jaybird and wanting to help protect Park Row and be the hero they needed. Even if he was forever glued to Batman's or Red Sparrow (Tim) side. Black Bat (Cass) and Batwomen (Steph) letting him patrol with them and giving him a more fun and freeing experience than the other two.
Jason didn't give Damian a chance. He didn't listen to all the warnings and rumours told by Tim. He knew better than to judge a scary looking guy, he grew around some who ended up being misunderstood and big softies. Having a life of crime due to everyone seeing them as scary and not willing to give them a chance.
But Jason still kept away. He feared being seen as an outcast next and lose the family and home given to him. He was left feeling ashamed for turning his back on someone without giving them a chance to prove themselves. But he was just a kid, scared of losing his own second chance if he upset his second family.
And Jason had learn to regret not giving Damian a chance when he died. Waking by Talia's doing and being kidnapped by her son, returned to Bruce soon after. Damian had taught him how to cope with the pit madness, to control his anger. Gave Jason a head start in dealing with the bat-family's judgment.
Something no one had protected Damian from.
But Dick was different.
The colourful Robin.
A bird who'd lost his nest and was left with a broken wing from where it had fallen.
Dick was unlike any other bat-family member met by the Justice League before.
He left everyone smiling and feeling happier by just standing near the boy.
And the boy's favourite place to be was beside Damian.
Robin was always flying after Reaper at night, against a handful of bat wishes.
Dick was always chattering away to Damian during the day, against others warnings.
And Damian had allowed the bird to find shelter in his damaged nest.
Had taught the bird to fly with a healing wing and caught him whenever he came close to falling.
The Justice League had known from the very start that Dick was different.
Damian had bristled against Bruce's comment over calling him as his son, to name the boy as Damian's youngest sibling.
But more have noticed over Dick shuffling in discomfort over being labelled as Bruce's ward, as his newest foster child.
Dick had never been Bruce's son.
Nor had Dick stood as Damian's brother.
Damian had gained a son, not a blood child as he would have once bragged over but a son he had learnt to cherish and love dearly.
Dick was greeted as Damian's son, not his brother.
The Justice League had stood from the side and watched the Bat-family grow and change over the years. Approved and disapproved over much that has happened between them. Cheered some on and scolded others.
But their hearts would forever melt when they watch the little Robin happily chirp on the Reapers shoulders.
Bringing colour to the man's life of darkness.
