Parakeets: Are birds that represent freedom because a lot of them represent being caged. However, wild parakeets that can be seen flying freely is a powerful symbol of freedom.

Nightwing felt himself staring dreamily towards the big bat bat across the table. Normally he never enjoyed the justice league weekly meetings, always finding them boring and full. Most of the boredom was due to having to be kept mostly still and not allowed to freely move around like he's always known for doing.
But his favourite park of the meetings were being able to sit around the long table and stare lovingly at the dark knight. His eyes would sometimes wonder around the room, checking on his fellow comrades trapped in the meeting none of them actual enjoyed or towards the current speaker during the meeting when Batman wasn't. But for most of the meeting, he'd find himself staring towards his soulmate.
He knew Batman was his soulmate, he simply felt it wen they first met all those years ago.
Dick had proven that he'd take a bullet for the dark knight, literally, and he's promised to forever take a bullet for his soulmate ever since. Still very grateful over the mostly bulletproof padding adding to his own Nightwing suit.
His big brother had made it clear to Dick that he couldn't stand as a hero link to the sups without a decent bulletproof suit that made it seem like he reflected bullets like anyone else that might wear a huge S on their chest. Dick might hold a bird across his chest but all had known he stood among the sups family.
And his brother over protective nature had been a good call. Everyone seems to love to try and shoot at him to test the bulletproof theory. But it had kept him alive and it got to keep the dark knight alive during their first meeting.
Even if their first meeting ended with Batman's disapproval lecture over acting as a mere shield and discarded his personal safety for protecting his comrades safety's. At least Supergirl and Batgirl seemed to praise him over the coms on his good job with his first joint mission to the Gotham's vigilante. The two had even offered to let him to join their date night at Batgirl's, now known as Oracle, apartment where they had planned an movie date night for themselves. He didn't go, knowing they'd taken weeks to book their date night.
Nightwing was still in an love sick daze towards the bat when he had heard the attention seeking cough from his older brother fill the room. Forcing him to glance towards him with an overly charming smile and playing as innocent as they both know he wasn't. In truth he'd be pouting over being intrusted from his weekly staring at the bat if he wasn't trying to seem professional.
He wasn't doing any harm by playing his full focus on the bat during the weakly meetings. The dark knight doesn't even glare back at him or scold him for growing distracted by his white lenses in his cowl.
He even feels the bat's stare on him whenever he looks away early or don't stare as much during a meeting now. It's baby steps but it's an improvement in his eyes.
"Do you have any words to speak over deathstroke? You were the one to face him this week, Nightwing" Superman spoke with an stressed look as he turned to his brother, knowing he'd have any more details to add to Deathstroke's file if he held any after his fight with the hitman.
"He is such a pervert. But at least he asked me out to diner before he shot me. You don't get many criminals with manners anymore" Nightwing sighs as he crosses his left leg over his right, a smirk on his lips as he thought it was oddly sweet that Slade at least offered to take him out for a meal before trying to kill him.
"Yikes, another rogue tried flirting with you again, Robs? Are you doing okay?" Flash, Wally West who were currently taking over as the full time Flash. Wally was the new main flash due to Barry helping to settle his newly born twins into a routine as Iris planned to work again and Hal was still out in space for a mission.
"Flash. Names" Superman scolded towards the redhead, knowing his brother's childhood nickname could be used as an clue to figure out his identify.
"He got a little handsy as always but he behaved himself after I placed him in a chokehold with my legs. I think he took the hint I wasn't in the mood that night" Nightwing mumbled back with an one shoulder shrugged, ignoring his brother's scolding to his best friend.
"You should have called me. You know he doesn't take rejection well from you" Superman sighed as he looked to his brother with a frown, hating how he seemed to have a magnet that attracts all the crazies love to him.
"What villain doesn't take rejecting from Nightwing well? They all lust after him or worse, fall in love with him after their first meet with him. Your brother is a kidnapping magnet for creeps" Supergirl scoffed back as she crossed her arms over her chest, long since use to her cousin always being kidnapped or stalked by creeps in love with him.
"I haven't been kidnapped in over six months. It's a new record, be proud" Nightwing pointed out with a bright and proud smile, glancing between his brother and cousin over the good news.
"That's not something to be proud over, kid. It's worrying that you've never lasted six months from being kidnapped by now" Green Arrow grimaced back towards Nightwing, knowing it wasn't good that he can barely last six months without being kidnapped.
"Maybe we should pair Nightwing up with other heroes for his own safety" Canary spoke up her thoughts for all to hear and share their own thoughts over it.
"Or at least have a hero who'd be able to reach him quickest to hold a joint panic alarm with him. Nightwing would merely need to activate the panic button and the other hero would know he's being kidnapped again. The sooner someone knows, the sooner we can help him" Wonder Women perked up with an agreeing nod as she knew they couldn't just allow a fellow comrade to keep being placed in such danger so often anymore.
"Oracle has my suit tracker in her system like everyone else's tracker. And I come with a family with super hearing. One of them would come to my aid if I need it" Nightwing hurriedly said, not wanting to be babied when he's as good as an hero as anyone else in the watchtower.
"Only if he's willing to ask for their help. And doesn't disable his tracker, again" Oracle voice broke through the room's speakers.
"Traitor. I helped you hide things from my cousin all the time" Nightwing cried back as he glared towards the camera in the room, knowing he was not helping her to hide the next big or small thing from his cousin next time she asks for his help. He was a petty man after all.
"And my girlfriend will be heartbroken and very depressed if she learnt her cousin had died when he could have been saved" Oracle argued back in her own defence for ratting him out.
"This is why Wally is my best friend and my favourite redhead. He won't snitch of me" Nightwing grumbled back, clinging to Wally's arm and knowing he could count on his best friend. Feeling Wally just beam beside him over having it known he was the best friend, he knew he was but Nightwing didn't open say it openly to others.
"I say we give Nightwing a babysitter from now on. Any volunteers?" Wonder Women sternly stated, glancing around the room for anyone to volunteer and many hands suddenly raised without any hesitation.
"If I'm going to be treated like a child then I at least don't want my babysitter to be family or anyone younger then me" Nightwing frowned as he sat back in his own chair better, crossing his arms over his chest.
"We can agree to those terms. As well as those currently crushing on Nightwing, lower your hands too" Flash spoke up with a firm tone, looking around the room and watching as every arm suddenly went down again.
"Have the numbers increased again?" Superman worriedly asked, glancing around as a huge number of members left the room, knowing they'd gain no missions or tasks with Nightwing.
"Still not use to everyone being in love with your hot brother, huh? I feel bad for you" Green Arrow commented as he glanced towards the man of steel, feeling bad that he hasn't accepted over almost the whole world being in love with his younger brother like they were.
"Don't upset him more by bringing it up" Canary scolded her boyfriend, lightly slapping his thigh as she sat beside him.
"Maybe I should take you to live with Ma again. Far from people" Superman mumbled under his breath as Nightwing just frowned, not wanting to be locked away like some princess with magic hair.
"I'm not leaving Blüdhaven. She's my home. She deserves someone who believes in her growing safer and better to protect her. I won't give up on my city" Nightwing firmly told his brother, knowing most of the Kent family had been trying to get him to give up on his city since he's moved there. But he was as stubborn as he was talented when it came to flying.
The room grew silent and tensed with each passing second where no one dared to speak. Superman and Supergirl staring down at Nightwing who silently stared back, clearly not backing down over keeping to his city. Superman and Supergirl seeming close to just kidnapping him themselves and throwing him at Ma's farm before flying off again.
"I'd take him. Blüdhaven is Gotham's sister city. I'll be close enough to step in to any trouble he may have found himself in" Batman offered up, TOLD everyone that he'd be the one to babysit Nightwing. His mind already set as he knew Blüdhaven was alike to Gotham, that the two of them were alike at heart over their cities.
Batman would respect Blüdhaven.
Just as he knew Nightwing would respect Gotham.
"Thank you" Nightwing smiled shyly towards the dark knight, knowing he didn't have to take on this role but still chose to help him out anyway.
Batman simply gave a small and silent nod. Most wouldn't have thought over it, assuming he was being his anti-social self. Even if he did offer to babysit a hero known to be often captured, all assumed it was due to the man not wanting to risk any metas getting too close to Gotham. His own turf.
But Nightwing knew the man behind the cowl was being kind. That he was looking out for Nightwing even though the man must bug him half a time due to his assumed one-sided crush. Batman had always been caring and thoughtful and Nightwing knew that the small nod was a gentle act over putting Dick's own wants first.
It wasn't long after Nightwing's first kidnapping by some random criminal who had taken an one sided liking towards him had happened that Nightwing grew closer with Batman. Having offered Batman his help if the vigilante ever needed an extra set of hands in Gotham or some side mission that the Batman couldn't personally get involved with.
As payback for having saved him and most likely having to save him again from stalkers in the future.
Dick knew better than to force his way into the bat's bussiness or city. So, he waited until after the dark knight have saved him to offer a form of payback. A fair game between them over giving out and returning favours between them.
One that Batman accepted and actual gave Nightwing access to one of the bat's com lines for them to get in touch with more easier and more often.
Gaining the dark knights was something Nightwing nor Dick would ever break. Not unless he had no other choice and in that sense it meant his family or the bat himself was in real danger.
Because gaining the batman's trust, proving he was worthy over having it and earning more respect from the dark knight. It all meant he grew to know the bat even more than anyone else in the justice league.
Nightwing got to learn that the ghost stories and rumours over the bat's among the shadows were real. That Batgirl and Batwomen weren't the only members of the Batclan.
Nightwing got to meet Black Bat and Spoiler, both who once had a turn at being Batgirl. Even Kara only knew over the original Batgirl and Batwomen. It seemed that even if a person did date a bat member, they didn't learn over anyone who hadn't already been in the Gotham news. Leaving Nightwing the only one to meet the other members.
He also met the future vigilante who'd be known as Parakeet. He would have been Red Bat but after Nightwing came across the sneaking out young vigilante. They talked on the rooftop. Nightwing mentioning over the meaning the bird has. The fifteen year old, who mentioned he wasn't allowed to stand as an vigilante until he was sixteen, Batman's rules in Gotham, had scoffed over the name. Before perking up over the bird's meaning and wanting to be something more then another bat.
Batman had came to collect his son, admitting it was his son, and thanking Nightwing. Being a bit more open with him and even getting Nightwing to help train his son, little wing as Nightwing nicknamed him due to secret identities, as Little Wing seemed to have grown a bit attached to him.
Nightwing got to come to the batcave more often since agreeing to help train Little Wing, the teen not allowed out on patrol or out on the city just yet. Leaving all training having to be done in the cave or on camping trips Batman takes him on.
"Do you love the old man, really love him? Not some hero worship or admiration crush?" Little Wing asked one night after Nightwing had helped to teach him to fly better with grappling hooks, both sitting on the edge of the mats cooling down.
"He's my soulmate" Nightwing answered softly, a warm smile to his lips.
"You're a homeless romantic" Little Wing scoffed back as he rolled his eyes behind his domino mask.
"My brother says the same. He doesn't believe in soulmates either. Points out that I had assumed that I had met my soulmate once already when I was a child" Nightwing muttered back with a small smile, thinking over all the times Clark had tried to encourage him to look into dating other people that wasn't the dark knight.
"I thought people only had one soulmate?" Little Wing replied with clear confusion.
"They do" Nightwing admitted honestly.
"But that means you were wrong about one of them" Little Wing pointed out with a small frown.
"Was I? I'm rarely wrong over someone" Nightwing lightly shot back, an amused smirk on his lips as he glanced to the younger lad.
Little wing just stared up at Dick with awe behind his domino mask. Lips parted as he stayed sitting speechless before he was soon grinning. Looking forward to how the future would unfold and secretly cheering Dick on for his love to win. He felt like he might be seeing an romance novel come to life and was excited to be a apart of it. He'd be singing nothing but nice and sweet things over Nightwing towards his dad from now on.
"I better be best man for you or the old man" Little Wing demanded completely serious, wanting to be a best man at the wedding.
"You'll have to be B's best man. I already promised Kon that he'd be my best man with Wally" Nightwing replied with an apologetic smile since he's already given out the best man role to two people.
"If you're going to have three best men than why not a third?" Little Wing shot back with an raised eyebrow.
"That's a good point" Nightwing laughed back.
And Nightwing cherished each second he got to spent with Batman outside of missions or rescuers. The few silent and peaceful seconds on rooftops or as they do their farewells are a mission or rescue was complete.
Starting to love Gotham as much as he do Blüdhaven.
Seeing both cities grow to be his home, already feeling his older brother's and cousin's disapproval if they ever catch on to that thought.
But the good only lasts so long before the bad returns, needing both in life to even out the feelings that come with both. Good wouldn't be known if one hasn't expected bad at least once in their lives. Just as Bad wouldn't be felt if one only knows over good.
And his bad came in the form of saving the Wayne's.
Batman had asked in the past for Nightwing to rescue the Wayne's whenever one of them or more are placed in danger or captured for ransom.
The Wayne's were rich and the Wayne enterprise did fund the Justice League, leaving them with targets on their backs for all types of people for all different reasons.
Batman had protected the Wayne's as much as possible but it only painted a bigger target on their backs due to a clear link over the family to Batman.
Dick didn't mind, he lived helping others and he knew the family deserved to be saved like anyone else.
"Is anyone seriously hurt?" Nightwing asked once he stood in the room where the family of six was imprisoned in during their capture.
Nightwing had mostly dealt with the group of kidnappers that had taken the family, took out the driver of their limo during their ride to an gala and knocked them out with gas in the back afterwards. All being dragged and left waking to the damp and smelly basement of an house meant to be knocked down in a couple of months.
"Thumbs ups or a dumb joke, I need a sign that you're all okay before I move you" Nightwing spoke once more when no one had moved to speak, a few heads shakes he originally gotten but only the light from his torch was lighting up sections of the room. Leaving him unable to truly see them all.
Silence filled the room once more before finally he started getting quiet replies over being unharmed, untouched and a few thumbs up from those that didn't feel like talking right now. Leaving Nightwing to give a relieved smile before he moved to make sure that everyone's ropes were untied or cut, checking they're all able to start getting up now.
Once Nightwing knew they'd all been freed, he moved over to the youngest two of the family. Knowing the kidnappers had left the babies of the family slumped in the further corner from the others.
"Hey, you doing okay, baby bird?" Nightwing asked in a soft voice, a kind smile on his lips as he kneeled by the two.
"Damian peed on me" Tim whined as he stared down at the baby left laying on his lap, both children smelling over wee due to the youngest's nappy overfilling.
"That's not good for either of you. I'm sure the baby bat didn't mean too, so let's not make him feel bad over this. Let's focus on getting you home and cleaned up, yeah?" Nightwing replies with an apologetic smile, scooping Damian Wayne up into his arms to help get him of the young boy's lap.
"Yes please" Tim shyly mumbles back, accepting Nightwing's offered hand and helped to stand up again.
Nightwing helps walk Timothy Drake-Wayne along to the centre of the room, leaving him in charge of holding his torch and helping everyone else to see as they get up. Soon enough Nightwing is by Jason Wayne who had been sulking by the wall he chose to lean against, leaving Nightwing worried he might have been more scared then mentioned or did get hurt.
"I could have taken them. T-They just cheated by using dirty moves" Jason sniffled back, voice angry over being so helpless.
"You did the most important job, protecting your family from being hurt by talking back. Well done, you've done such a good job at protecting them for me" Nightwing reassured the boy before him with an prideful tone, placing an comforting hand on his shoulder and needing him know he did such a good job.
Jason just stared up at Nightwing before shyly glancing away as his ears turned red from being bashful over being so proud over. He soon held his arms out, offered to take the baby from the vigilante why he checks on the others. Nightwing smiles back his thanks, carefully holding the baby over to the teen.
"Is it safe to leave?" Cass asks quietly as she appears behind Nightwing when he steps back, glancing worriedly between the hero and the basement door.
"The cops are on the way to take away those I've tied up and knocked out. We're only at risk of anyone who might have been sent out before I arrived. But don't worry, I hear my wings give the best hugs and are the strongest shield known. I won't let any harm come to any of you, never again" Nightwing explains with an small but knowing smile, tapping the tip of the girl's nose affectionately with an hand that wasn't currently covered in pee. Knowing she was concerned and wanting to help reassure him as best as he could.
Cassandra Wayne, the oldest of the family, smiles back, tapping back at Nightwing's arm as she relaxed much more than Nightwing would have assumed. Nightwing still smiles back before turning as Stephine Brown, Cass's girlfriend, knowing by all in Gotham, soon walked over and took hold of one of Cass's hand in her own.
"Are you really a super? And single?" Steph blurted out, seeming to grow more excited the longer she stood close to the hero before her. Cass rolling her eyes fondly over her girlfriend's antics beside her.
"Secret identities I'm afraid. But I do love to fly" Nightwing sadly replied, giving a small smile to the blonde but winking playfully as he mentioned his love of flying. Knowing that was the best he could give her right now.
"Can you teach me to fly someday?" Tim askes hopeful, hurrying closer to the two girls and tightly holding the Nightwing patterned torch in both of his small hands. Taking his torch job very seriously.
"Maybe try gymnastics first" Nightwing offered up to the boy instead.
Nightwing attention turning back to Jason who had been pacing and bouncing as much as possible with the baby in his arms. Said baby who had been grumping and whining for a few minutes now and clearly worked up over the evening's events.
"Damian's getting fussy, old man" Jason complained as he glared towards his father figure who had still been keeping close to the basement staircase, tensed and ready for someone to come racing down to attack them.
Nightwing knew why the man was tensed. His family was in danger and none of them knew if the threats upstairs were truly gone or dealt with completely. The man was ready for a fight, to defend his children as much as possible as he feels he's already failed them once tonight.
Nightwing calmly takes Damian from Jason's arms, smiling at the teen who had been struggling to calm the fussy baby before heading over to Bruce Wayne. His steps purposely made loud enough to be heard as he walked towards him and his body relaxed to show he wasn't a threat nor was he scared over an attack.
"He's safe. They're all okay. Just hold him close and let him know he's protected as all of you are now. I won't let anymore harm come to you, not again. Focus on comforting your children while I focus on keeping you safe" Nightwing calmly tells Bruce, moving the man's arms to take hold of his scared youngest and letting him hold him close again. Proving the children were safe and giving the man orders to complete from now onwards.
"Thank you" Bruce chokes out in an whisper, staring at Nightwing with an emotion the other hero wasn't able to figure out in the moment.
Nightwing just smiled warmly in return before stepping to stand with his back to the staircase. Hopping onto the first step and catching everyone's attention as he waves them over.
"Buddy up, Waynes. Older kids with a few younger ones. Hand holding is needed. Don't release each other's hands until your father says it's okay. And smiles, we're going to show these naughty men that they can never steal your smile away forever, yeah?" Nightwing orders out with an charming grin, twisting his wrists as he points fingers to his lips to encourage them all to smile with him.
Soon enough everyone was moving to buddy up.
Cass taking hold of Tim's hand while Steph grabbed Jason's. Thankfully no one complaining and Bruce stood behind the four children in his care, Damian tightly and protectively held in his arms. But as ordered, four of the six all smiled or grinned towards Nightwing, showing their best smiles or gremlin grins in return. Bruce kept a straight face but augment was clear in his eyes and Damian had simply stayed staring silently now that he was calmed down more.
"Beautiful. You're all got the best smiles I've ever seen" Nightwing gasped back in awe, holding a dramatic hand to his heart as he looked to all the smiles being aimed towards him.
Soon enough Nightwing was leading them all up the staircase and out of the basement door. One of his two of escrima sticks in hand, ready to fight any foes that might be around. Humming an tune, trying to keep all the children calm and distracted from their fear as he gets them all out of the house. Makes them all walk across the road and a few houses away from the one they were held prisoner in.
Patting himself down before pulling out mini biscuits that were in the shape of the S on superman's chest. The wrappers that wrapped the tiny biscuits that were a size of a polo mint were Superman's colours. Nightwing kept them around, as well as free from home baked ones kept in an Nightwing colours wrappings but the biscuit itself kept in an S shape.
Handing them all to all the children, smiling at them and praising them for being so brave and so good during it all. Even passing one to Bruce and checking if Damian was able to have any before simple passing it over to Bruce to turn soggy with water for the baby to eat as mush later.
"Oh, give this one to Alfred. Poor man was worried to death and I know it won't magically take away his distress but it's made with love. Hopefully it'd help him feel a little bit" Nightwing mumbled, giving another one to Cass and trusting her to pass it over the butler for him.
"Thank you" Cass quietly muttered back, slipping Alfred's treat into a pocket.
"Thanks" Jason mumbled out after he finished his biscuit, seeming to have liked it.
"These are so good. Why are they so small? I want more!" Steph responded in an hyper state, loving the biscuit and wishing she had more.
"Did you make them?" Bruce asked curious, having placed his and his son's biscuit away in his suit jacket pocket for now.
"I've got no cooking skills, sadly. But they were made with love and kindness" Nightwing answered with an sheepish smile, scratching the back of his head as he admitted one of his weakness in life.
Ma Kent always bakes them and send them out to him every two weeks, well he collects them during his visits to his mother figure. She knew he liked to hand out treats to victims of all ages and came up with the baked goods idea, making them small enough to fit in a secret pouch hidden in the lining of the bulletproof lining. As well as making so many tiny ones so there should be enough for large numbers at once. Dick always helped to wrap the cooled biscuits up in the superman or Nightwing wrappers, doing his part to help with them without actual doing any of the cooking. Sometimes Kon would help with the baking, a bit of a baker himself and always happy to bake more for his older brother when Nightwing ends up growing his Ma's batch rather quickly on the harder and rougher weeks.
"They're delicious!" Tim cheers back, holding tight to Nightwing's torch and now the empty wrapper, clearly planning to add the wrapper into his memory box later that he keeps tucked in his wardrobe.
"Thank you. I'm sure the maker would be overjoyed at hearing the home baked goods are so loved. But sadly, I must ask for my torch back. I can't afford to give out all my goodies to everyone I help and It'd be unfair if I let you walk away with one but not let others do the same" Nightwing smiled back softly, sounding apologetic as he moved to squat before the boy and hold his hand out for his torch. Knowing he couldn't let the boy keep it.
"That's okay. I understand. Thank you for letting me use it" Tim smiled back, happily taking back the torch but protectively holding the biscuit wrapper, keen to keep it.
"Use it. You were one of my best helpers in there. We'd all have fallen around in the basement if you didn't light up the way for us. Well done, you were such a big help" Nightwing bragged back in amazement as he makes the boy's little job into a huge deal.
"You're welcome" Tim grinned back, standing a tiny bit taller as he assumed he was as much as a hero as Nightwing was today.
"You should be real proud, Mr Wayne. You've got a real good bunch of heroes over here. They know when to step back to save lives, like Jason did. They knew how small jobs can help in a big way, like Tim did. Knew how to keep silent and be comforting to victims, like Cass did, our strong silent big bat. Knew when to not push for information for protection reasons, like Steph, our powerful swan, did. And Damian over there didn't really seem to get fussy until he wasn't sure if his family was safe or not. These birds and bats are real heroes in my eyes, deserve their own capes one day" Nightwing smugly says as he nods and grins to each child he mentions. Proud over them all and making them all know that they've stood as heroes in his eyes today over all the small little things they've done. It would have gone unnoticed for most but Nightwing always liked to point out the good that victims had done, to leave a tiny bit of positive memory to the bad time of their lives.
And Nightwing was startled over how all the children stood beaming at him with real and bright smiles. All giggly and thrilled over the compliment and being seen as an hero in his eyes over the small acts they've done in their quick meeting.
Bruce even chuckled, amusment in his eyes as if Nightwing had missed some indoor joke somewhere. Bruce stood smug, looking at his children with pride before glancing back to Nightwing with more gentle eyes.
"I am rather proud over all my heroes" Bruce confessed, meaning it.
Before anyone could speak again, the cops arrive and their flashing lights lit up the whole closed road. Their series left their ears ringing before they finally turned them off as all the officers raced out of their cars and towards the family.
Nightwing going into professional mode once more and passing on the whereabouts over the criminals. As well as video footage that showed the criminals were the kidnappers, giving hard evidence over every person captured that they had committed the crime. None of them could slip out of the justice gained tonight.
Passing on his report to Commissioner Gordon as the man walked over. Being friendly and respectful, gaining the same treatment in return. Soon enough Nightwing walked back over to the Wayne's with the Commissioner.
Nightwing checked that both Bruce and his children were happy to talk to the cops and were comfortable enough to give statements today. Offering to stay with them if they needed a hand to hold. Even gaining Gordon to apologize, not failing to treat them all as victims from the first second he arrived before calming down when the Wayne's waved his concerns and apologizes away.
All of them lived in Gotham long enough to not seem overly bothered over tonight. They've all been kidnapped once or more before as an Wayne and were use to the events that unfolded. They were happy to pass on their statements and speak to the commissioner right then and there before they'd head home afterwards.
Nightwing stayed, mostly due to Cass, Jason, Steph and Tim had all shuffled off when he went to leave and clung to one of his limbs. Jason hugging at Nightwing's right, Steph hanging from his right arm out of Jason's way. Cass holding Nightwing's left hand and Tim had actual sat on Nightwing's left foot, hugging his leg tightly.
Nightwing stayed with them all as they talked and made no effect in mentioning his farewells until Alfred, the family's grandpa-Butler arrived with the family car and got them all settled in the car. Alfred passing his thanks to Nightwing for returning his family safely as well as the biscuit treat given to him that Cass did pass over when climbing into the car.
Nightwing just smiled back, waving them all and telling them that he was still proud over them all.
"Nightwing" Bruce spoke, stopping beside the hero after he had placed his baby in his car seat and closed the door. Knowing all his children had undone their seatbelts, pressing their faces into the tinted windows to stare out at them and try to listen in.
"Hmm?" Nightwing hummed back kindly, nodding for the older man to speak.
"Thank you" Bruce spoke his gratitude once more, knowing he owed the hero more than simple words but knowing the man would only ever ask for words of thanks than any other gifts.
"We all need a little help sometimes, B" Nightwing smiled back gently as he turned to the man, his feeling never wrong over someone.
"Excuse me?" Bruce asked, tension up and looking ready for a fight.
"Calling you Mr Wayne felt a little serious when I was trying to make everyone more relaxed and comfortable. I didn't want to use your first name without permission. So, B, seemed like an okay nickname for tonight. I apologize if I spoke out of term, Mr Wayne" Nightwing calmly replied with a shy smile, acting panicked over upsetting the rich man and gaining an enemy out of him.
"Call me Bruce. IF we ever meet again, those respectful I wish it'd be on better terms" Bruce softly says, walking away and entering the car before Nightwing had a chance to reply.
********************************************
A/N: I like the idea of doing a Part 2 for this. To make them actual date or confess at least. But this part has gotten rather long, so I think I'd end this part on a good note here.
Extra, Inside the Car Afterwards:
"Wouldn't he make the best Tati ever?! Don't you think the old man should just marry him already" Jason asked towards his siblings, trying to win them over on the idea of Nightwing becoming their step-parent someday.
"Jason. Nightwing and I are merely comrades. We're not one of your romance books" Bruce sighed as he pinched the tip of his nose, already feeling another headache forming by his children's doing.
"I like him. He's good. Father should keep him, want him as other Dad" Cass spoke her thoughts on the matter, smiling sweetly and wanting Nightwing as her Tati.
"Can we really have Nightwing as our other parent? Really! Will he teach me to fly if he marries onto the family? Marry him, Dad, please!" Tim gasped back with pure joy and hope over the chance to have Nightwing marry into the family. Begging his Dad with his best puppy dog eyes to marry the hero.
"Seems like you're boyfriend has won everyone over already, Bruce. Might as well just marry him already. We could even plan out your wedding for you, make it into family bonding by planning it together" Steph perked up with a huge face splitting grin as she looked towards her future father in law and knowing he's lost this argument.
"Alfred would you mind helping me, please?" Bruce begs his father figure to help him out with this. Knowing Alfred's word was final.
"Of course, master Bruce. I shall learn over Mr Nightwing's ring size in time for you to propose to him during your next meeting on the rooftops" Alfred replied completely serious and ready for his foster son to finally marry a man who loves him as much as Nightwing did. Completely encouraging all his grandchildren to cheer on Nightwing's love towards their father.
