Robin Dick..
"Happy Star Wars Day!" Dick grinned from ear to ear, squatting on the edge of the rooftop as he took notice over it finally being midnight. It was finally the 4th of may, a day he's been waiting on it's arrival since Bruce had showed him star wars.
"Star wars day.." Bruce muttered back, a little left out of the loop over whatever was running through his ward's mind now.
"May the 4th be with you, B!" Dick giggled back happily, leaping off the rooftop without any warning, very pleased over himself.
Batman soon jumped after his ward, still having an heart attack each and every time his newly gained partner leaped from great heights without any pre-warning. Taking notice over the little lightsaber's carved into the sole of his boots, subtlety hidden from main sight but clearly have been a recently changed detail to the boots just for the 4th's patrols.
Robin Jason..
"Oi! Old man" Jason called out as he came charging into Bruce's office within the manor, his father figure just placing the phone down after finishing his call with Gotham Academy.
"Jason we've talked about starting fights at school-" Bruce started to say with an tried sigh, pinching the tip of his nose as he's had the same conversation with his second son plenty of times.
"Dickie says it's an important day of the year. Better than Christmas" Jason cut Bruce off without any hesitation, looking determined over something after having just finishing a call with Dick himself. His older brother, trying to be a better brother for him, had called once he knew Jason would be back at the manor after school and before patrol starts.
"Jason.." Bruce frowns, still not thrilled over Dick and Jason talking with himself or Alfred being close enough to overhear anything said. Worried that Dick might suddenly lash out at his second son once more to spite him.
"Happy star wars day" Jason huffed out as he stood by the end of Bruce's desk, looking the older man dead in the eyes as he passed on his star wars greeting. Knowing it was only counted for today only and not daring to miss out on the fun of it.
"May the 4th be with you" Bruce shot back with an amused glint to his eyes, making a mental note to place a reminder on may 4th for the rest of his life to keep this greeting living on each year. Maybe make the greeting an Wayne tradition.
Jason stared at Bruce with wide and shocked eyes. Not having expected Bruce to say anything else or even understanding what Jason was talking about. Leaving Bruce to give a small chuckle, clearly making sure he'd remember over star wars day for the rest of his life.
Jason scoffed, embarrassed and glanced away as he rubbed the back of his neck. Shuffling on the spot a little before sighing as he thought over something. Finally looking back towards his adopted father and knowing he had to say something, be honest with him.
"About that fight, those punks started it. They assumed I'd be easy prey but I proved them wrong" Jason awkwardly admitted as he glanced down to his feet. Knowing fighting was wrong but he wasn't the one to start it like the school blames him over doing. He was just defending himself.
"I'll talk to the school about them punishing those students. As well as pass on my complaints over them allowing bullying to be taken place among their school grounds" Bruce promises in a softer tone, his eyes serious and his hand already reaching for his phone to ring the headmaster back.
"You're sticking up for me? Why?" Jason asked quietly, eyes unsure and untrusting as he's never had anyone stick up for him like Bruce had been trying to do. He knew Dick always had his back, more so since they've started getting along now.
"I am your father" Bruce told his son, quoting from the film but his voice as honest as his heart as he admitted such a fact to him.
Robin Timothy..
"May the 4th be with you" Nightwing cheered with a face splitting grin as he came flipping from above them, rolling into his landing before leaping onto his feet in one dance like move.
The lightsaber patterns carved into the soles of the Nightwing boots not going unnoticed by neither Batman nor Robin who stood within the alleyway. Batman feeling a sense of fondness over knowing somethings his oldest wouldn't grow out off.
"H-Happy Star Wars day" Robin shyly mumbled back, seeming excited to be given the star wars greeting and having waited years to do return it someday.
"Happy Star wars day" Batman gruff voice replied with a stiff nod, been waiting for one of his son's to bring up the date since he's woken up.
Nightwing beamed at the pair of them, overfilling with joy over having both return the greeting and remembering what today was. Soon looking the other two over and his eyes locking onto tiny and very subtle patterns added to the current Robin's cape, more so being seen better in the flicker of the streetlight light.
"Loving the cape. Agent A has outdone himself yet again" Nightwing gushed out as he stepped closer, eyeing up Robin's cape and taking notice over the tiny millennium falcon shaped logo's sewn into the cape itself.
"He did! He asked if I had a favourite character or item from the films. I don't know how he was able to subtly add mini Millennium Falcon shapes into my cape. But it looks so cool everytime I spot them in my cape" Robin excitedly blurted back as he's been waiting all day to show off the star wars theme cape he was gifted just for tonight's patrol. Having hoped Batman would have mentioned something sooner so he could talk over it more.
"You look dashing, Robin" Nightwing complimented, his smile bright but kind and his voice always honest.
"T-Thanks" Robin shyly smiled back, his cheeks growing rosy.
Nightwing just nodded back before cartwheeling back and soon slipping his batons out, pressing a button near the bottom of both and the top half lighting up in an glowing blue. Both batons left looking like mini lightsabres for tonight only. He'd be returning to his normal batons by morning.
"This is the way" Nightwing yelled out as he shot his grappling hook out, already flying away before either Robin or Batman could comment over his star wars themed add on this year.
"He's gone the wrong way" Batman tiredly sighed as he watched Nightwing go in the wrong direction to where they're meant to be stopping a drug trade tonight.
"Who's the more foolish: the fool or the fool who follows him?" Robin commented with an amused smile, always knowing Nightwing made patrol much more fun and sometimes freer.
"Robin.." Batman starts to talk before stopping only after speaking his current covers hero name, seeming unsure over himself as he thought over what he wanted to say.
"Yeah?" Robin nervously asked, fearing he's done something wrong as he stares up at Batman.
"I am your father" Bruce told his third son, knowing Timothy still wasn't sure over his place among their family.
Knowing Tim still felt like a replacement and awaiting to be thrown away someday. But Bruce was making it clear, cowl mask to domino mask, he was making it clear that Tim stood as his son. Blood or not, he was his son now.
And with such a confession, May the 4th grew to be Tim's favourite day of the year. Finally feeling he had found a home to belong with and a family who wanted him. Knowing who he was, he stood as Bruce Wayne's third son.
Jason..
Batman was left outside of Jason's safe house the moment Bruce yanked his cowl off. Sprinting to his second oldest side as he found him cowering in the corner, dealing with an panic attack and reliving some of his trauma.
An incident in Gotham tonight that had both father and son blown back into past memories. Remembering a time in their lives that neither wanted to ever relive again.
Bruce held his son close, stayed with him and stubbornly talked his son down from the nightmares and fears blinding him that night.
Trying to prove that Jason was still his son, even after all that's happened between them and all the time that had passed them both by. Trying to sooth his son and be there for him during his darkest moments.
Facing the green in his son's eyes as he didn't believe him and accused him over never standing as a father, for never loving him as a son but just a pity charity case. Bringing up painful memories that neither could change but only wish they could undo.
Bruce finally having enough, hearing chatter over the coms between Nightwing and Robin as they carried on with patrolling Gotham for him and Red Hood due to both being down for the night now. Nightwing being a good brother to the current Robin, helping to distract him from his worries over Red Hood running off like he did without warning.
"Jason.." Bruce firm, almost Batman voice, spoke over his son's hisses and snaps, catching his attention long enough for him to speak to him again.
"I am your father" Bruce promised, never being more sure of anything else then the statement he was giving to his second oldest.
And Bruce just held his second oldest as he broke down in his arms, feeling safe and believing Bruce for now. Knowing he was just his son right now and clinging to the father he desperately needed in that moment.
Both wearing the gifted star wars clothing they came across by morning. One start wars tie and one set of star wars socks. Both joining in the family tradition, greeting the rest of the family during the day.
Batgirl Cass..
Bruce knew he didn't always have to say his feelings or thoughts out loud for his daughter to understand or known over them. Bruce had grown to such a fact that sometimes he forgets that some things must be said.
That everyone held as many insecurities as he did and sometimes those younger would have more of them as they try finding their place in the world.
That his daughter was still trying to understand her own place in the world, among her family. She knew they love her, cared for her deeply and all cherished her. None blaming her for her upbringing and all overlooking her past as much as they did with each other's bad habits.
Though, unknown to Bruce, she was curious over the background between her oldest brother and Deathstroke. No one seemed to understand the two's past and Cass noticed that even her adopted father didn't seem to understand it completely either or know over everything. But Cass did enjoy whenever Nightwing taunted Slade, in and out of mask, as it always ended up being a fun time.
But lately, Bruce had noticed his daughter seemed odd.
More odd than her normal odd self sometimes was.
He'd hoped that maybe Steph or Dick would mention something or solve it. Those two were the best emotional support members of the family. If those two didn't solve or deal with the emotional side of things for the batclan, all was lost.
It's why Bruce stood worried for his daughter, if neither Dick nor Steph had gotten involved than it meant he had to try and help instead. He was scared over doing something wrong and making it worse for his daughter. But he had to at least try to help her through whatever had bothered this week.
And if he couldn't help, he'd find someone better who could help her once he knew over the problem. Alfred always knew what to do after all.
Batman found his time to strike before Bruce had a chance.
The two sat on an rooftop, taking a quick break as the rest of the bats and birds flew across their city without a single fear over falling.
Batgirl had little ewok's sewn into her cape, having happily shown it off in the cave before they all left for patrol. Red Hood running around with guns shaped to look like blasters as he joined dressing up for star wars day. Robin flew around with an tusken raiders style weapon, it was as close to an fighting staff he could find for now. Nightwing had returned with his lightsabers batons and the patterns on the sole of his shoes. Stephine was on com duty due to a broken leg but she had worn star wars pyjamas to still be apart of the star wars themed dress code tonight. Oracle had even put on her star wars themed framed glasses for the day.
Batman as always had not joined in on the dress code but he did give out the star wars greeting when he first arrived at the cave. Gaining a few cheers over joining in and a few boos since he gained some of his children to lose bets over him not taking part on the tradition.
And it was thinking over the star wars themed dress code that left Batman thinking over one main problem that might cause concerns for his daughter. Something that he knew all of his children had struggled or wasted time worrying over in the past.
Batman knew what was needed to be said to remind his daughter over her place with him, to know what she is to him.
So, Batman turned to look at his daughter, gaining her full attention as she watched with held breath over what he was about to tell her. Noticing his rigid body posture and the nerves growing as he passed on what he knew how to be spoken out loud.
"I am your father" Batman told his daughter, giving her enough time to read him well enough to know he wasn't speaking a single lie to her.
He knew he had been correct over her worries by the bone crushing hug she had given him afterwards and he had purposely not released her during the hug until she was ready for it to end.
Damian..
Damian felt more proud of himself than he ever has been under his mother's care. He may have been both an Al Ghul and an Wayne, an heir to both great households. But he also stood as just.. Damian.
Damian knew that his own father had never trusted him while he was alive. Was never willing to look past his upbringing nor pass his attitude. And while he knew his mother did love him, Damian had learnt that sometimes a parent's natural love isn't enough to stop them from hurting you someday.
But Grayson, he'd given him a chance since day one.
Their first meeting may not have been respectful but it was clearly memorable for them both.
Richard was his Batman as Damian stand with pride as his Robin.
Richard had grown to be father, mother and brother to him since he claimed guardianship over him.
And Damian would rarely admit his thoughts out loud but Richard had grown to be the only family, his home, where he's felt safe enough to be.. a child needing care.
Richard was his Batman, his better parent and the hero Damian knew he had always secretly needed in his life.
Damian had chosen while under Richard's care that he'd grown to be somebody that Richard would be whole heartedly proud over and brag towards others over.
Richard already bragged over him to his friends and members of the public, speaking high praise over his art skills. Smugly talking over any little or big achievements Damian have gained towards Alfred during their tea drinking catch ups. Gushing over how cute, thought Damian is less thrilled to be seen as that, he is towards rogues. Pointing out his skills whenever a fellow hero might look down on Damian for how his behaviour use to be when he had first arrived to Gotham.
Richard was already bragging over him and Damian had yet to be grown into a full man just yet. It left Damian working harder towards being somebody that Richard would stand proud over and someone that Damian himself would hold pride over.
He no longer cared what his mother or father may grown or use to think over him. Not when he had spent almost an year under Richard's care and he's gave him a better family and a stronger, safer home than either of his blood parents have ever given him.
Damian stood as a flying Grayson, wearing the family colours with great pride and admiring his grandparents he'd never meet from the stories his father figure has told to him.
It's due to such a strong bond he's grown with HIS Batman that Damian decided he'd allow to swallow his displeasure and embarrass himself to bring joy to his Batman.
More so when not a single one of their siblings had phoned up on such an important day.
The two were standing within the batcave, both just finished getting dressed and checking their utility belts. Both as prepared for patrol in Gotham as they could be. Richard only needing to slide on the cowl and Damian placing his domino mask on.
Damian did feel rather pleased over the Chewbacca head shaped logos sewn subtlety into his cape, Pennyworth had clearly done a satisfying job over sewing on his favourite chapter to the cape for tonight's patrol. The cape leaving Damian in a good enough mood to ignore the lightsaber patterns in the sole of Batman's boots and that dark vader's head logo were also subtlety sewn into Batman's cape.
"Richard, I demand your full attention as I hold very desirable words for you to hear" Damian spoke up before they headed for the boatmobile.
"Speak away, Baby bat. You've always got my full attention" Dick gently smiled towards his robin, giving an supportive nod for him to talk away to him.
"May the 4th be with you" Damian said with such a straight face and his voice overly firm that some might have thought it was a gag joke being done between them.
"Happy star wars day, Dami" Dick smiled back brightly, thrilled to have at least one member of the family help to keep the greeting tradition going within the family.
"I shall admit that the thought of whacking scum with my false lightsaber do bring me great joy. I look forward to this day in every year of our future" Damian confessed as he pulled out the lightsaber styled sword sheathed to his utility belt. It wasn't sharp but it was a solid weapon that could do some damage if needed, it also lit up like a red lightsabre. Dick had been certain that seeing the current Robin fight with a fake lightsabre, a red one, would freak out the rogues even more tonight.
Damian watched as Richard fondly smiled at him, calmly making his way closer to him and seeming to have a determined glint to his eyes. A thought in his mind that was stubbornly staying put as he knew it had to finally be said. Knew that it was worth the risk of their bonding breaking if he had been wrong over the growth between them in the past year.
"Damian, can I tell you a secret?" Dick asked with an sweet smile, kneeling before the younger boy.
"I'll give you the honour of allowing me to be your secret keeper" Damian replied with an serious nod, prepared to be the older man's secret keeper, seeing it as a very important job role.
"I am your father" Dick told his son, an fatherly hand held to the younger boy's shoulder as he looked him dead in the eyes and let the ex assassin see for himself how honest he felt over those words as he spoke them.
And Damian choked a little as he listened to those words. His eyes growing more wet than he'd ever allow to happen over mere words and refused to belief in sentimental feelings. But he did indeed cling to his father figure, being the one to hug him first for once and allowing the hug to last much longer than normal.
He finally had a parent, a Baba, he deserved and wanted to keep in his life.
A parent had wanted him as their son while loving him unconditionally.
The embarrassment of star wars day was no longer such an embarrassment in his eyes, he'd look forward to forever being his father's on for many more star wars days to come.
Duke..
Duke didn't need a father, he had one that he still loves and misses dearly.
Bruce knew that much and he wasn't ever going to act as a parent towards Duke.
He'd spoken towards Duke in the early days of gaining guardianship over the teenager. Wanting to make up boundaries between them as they grow to be a family. Not wanting to upset or push the teen away by being too much of a parent or not being enough of one for him.
Duke had parents.
He didn't need anymore.
But he was willing to gain an uncle in his life and that's the role that Bruce happily accepted.
"Master Duke, I do hope you weren't planning to squirt all that whip cream into your mouth at once" Alfred spoke with an disapproving tone as he stood in the kitchen doorway, staring towards the mentioned teen who had been walking towards the fridge.
"Who mentioned that I was going to eat the whip cream?" Duke shot back, acting overly innocent and wondering how Alfred had known he was about to see if he could squirt the whole bottle of whip cream into his mouth. He didn't tell anyone he was going to try something dumb, he was going to brag over it to his siblings once he had done it, successfully.
"A friendly piece of advice; assume that I know everything" Alfred merely quoted before walking off, already done with this conversation. More so with the lad who was currently walking around in his Jar Jar patterned socks.
"He really does know everything. And he'd make you clean up your own puke when you end up throwing up the whip cream when you fail to fit it all in your mouth at once" Bruce warned the lad as he stayed sitting by the counter, sipping his coffee and happy hiding from all his other children today. More so when he overheard Dick, Jason and Cass speaking over recreating a few star war battles by on the manner grounds. Bruce knew it was going to end up being an expensive fight once he has to pay for the damages. More so when Damian and Tim decided to recreate their own fight from one of the star wars fight with Stephine's encouraging them.
"I find your lack of faith disturbing" Duke shot back towards his uncle figure, a smug grin on his lips.
"Happy Star wars day" Bruce greeted with an amused smile, lifting his star wars themed mug into the air in cheers.
"May the 4th be with you" Duke smirked back, running out of the kitchen as an loud crash filled the manor with Dick's robin days crackle echoing through the air with Tim, Cass, Jason, Stephine and Damian gasping out over betrayals.
Bruce only sighs, reaching for his wallet and ready to leave it on the kitchen counter why he heads down to the batcave to hide away until patrol tonight. Merely raising an eyebrow towards the lazar marks in the corridor, he knew Dick had won some of the evil villains over to create him real lightsabres this year, he kept avoiding the questions whenever Batman tried mentioning the rumours.
Robin Damian..
Bruce had known he had failed his youngest son more than once. He's failed him plenty of times before he died and even more since he's returned.
Damian had been glad to learn he was alive but he had also been heartbroken over having to lose the place he was finally able to call his home, the person he was able to call his home.
Bruce knew he should have done better, BEEN better in the aftermath over his return to them all. Knew he had basically thrown his oldest out of Gotham, treated him like a cheap replacement. Pulled Damian from a stable life to one where he was left walking on egg shells all over again.
Bruce knew he had failed a father to the one child related to him by blood, that he'll stay failing him more in the future.
He was shown how much he had given up on his youngest son, proven that he never once gave his youngest a chance to prove himself or shown he belonged to the family. That he'd been no better than an Al Ghul towards Damian.
It all became perfectly clear as Nightwing stood in Nightwing themed Mandalorian get up during patrol. With Robin dressed in an Robin themed grogu get up. The pair having signed up as partners during that night's patrol, leaving Red Robin to step in as Batman's partner instead.
The outfits were perfect, clearly well made and designed perfectly to not stand as a weakness or disadvantage during patrol.
And Batman had never seen Robin glow as bright as he did during that patrol as he's seen him since they've met. Batman, Bruce has never been able to bring out the real Damian as much as Dick was able to do in a single patrol.
It left a brutal emotionally punch to Bruce.
So, Batman did what knew was needed to be said.
He found up Robin near the end of patrol, ordering him to jump into the boatmobile and he'd drive him back so Nightwing could be heading back to his apartment in the next city over. Nightwing stood ready for an fight, ready to direct Batman's displeasure on him instead of his Robin as he assumed Batman was unhappy over something.
But Batman didn't give Nightwing the chance to start an unneeded fight. Simply took Robin and started driving back towards the batcave without a word spoken. Robin sitting tensed, prepared to be scolded or lectured over something as most of his conversations with his father ended in being.
And that had hurt, knowing his youngest son had only known disapproval from him instead of love.
Maybe he still had a shot at being a father to his son, to gain a second chance as he's already gained with one son.
"I am your father" Batman told his son, turning his head to watch his youngest reaction.
"By DNA only, father. You have done plenty of dna tests to have known that answer" Robin simply replied with an tight frown, already use to the title being used to scold him, as reason to order him about or mentioned when wanting another dna test done.
And Batman had purposely returned to patrolling Gotham a couple hours longer after dropping Robin home. Knowing he had done wrong by his youngest son if he had assumed that Bruce was merely speaking over dna tests yet again.
Knowing he was only a father to his youngest by title and blood results alone.
Dick..
Maybe calling his oldest into his office while the rest of the family cause chaos elsewhere in the manor wasn't his smartest plan to use. Mostly due to his oldest currently standing tensed and prepared for a heated fight to happen between them.
Bruce wasn't here for a fight.
He wanted his son to be in his office for something very big and important.
Something very overdue, more so after everything else they've lived through and survived.
Facing Ric had re-sparked the idea, spyral had proven he wasn't worthy over such an blessing from the idea but having Dick live without a link to the family who loves him as much as he loves them proved it was a good idea.
But for such an idea to go smoothly, he needed them both to be in a good mood.
So, Bruce did the first thing that came to mind that was also the dumbest idea to ever spark in his mind. He'd grimace over this moment for the rest of his life while everyone else laughed at him for it.
"I am your father" Bruce blurted out, shoving the adoption papers across his desk for his oldest to see and hopefully understand why he'd wanted to speak with him privately.
"B, it's not even may.. Are those adoption papers?!" Dick pointed out with clear judgmental before screaming as his finally glanced at the papers.
Even with Dick snickering at him for the rest of the day and every single time the story is brought up, Dick still signed those papers with an sunshine bright smile on his face.
