It was time for some brother bonding, minus Duke who was currently passed out on the kitchen floor after finishing his own patrol for the day. And yes, he was sound asleep with cat whiskers drawn on his face. None of the four brothers still awake would point out who had down such childish drawings and trick, since Duke would merely blame them all anyway if they had done it or not.
But back to the four bat-bros that were still wide awake and trying their best to get into the Halloween spirt. Yes, it was only October the 1st but Bruce was sound asleep and Alfred had gone out.
Leaving the only free time for them all to gather together and make a mess of the kitchen with pumpkin guts.
They were meant to be carving pumpkins but it was more of a slaughter, even if only half of them were willing to admit so.
"Aren't you meant to be skilled with any form of an blade?" Tim questions as he looks towards Damian, merely raising an judgmental eyebrow towards they younger boy's mushed pumpkin on the counter side.
Damian merely frowned before raising his kitchen knife and prepared to leap towards Drake without a second thought. Deciding he'd make an hack job of his older brother next now that he's finished turning his pumpkin into his first victim.
Such murderous plans were stopped by Dick merely grabbing his youngest sibling as he was mid air with one arm wrapped around his stomach from behind. His own knife carefully held in his other hand as he kept his focus on his own badly done pumpkin.
"I'm starting to remember why Alfred stopped us from carving pumpkins. We're not very good at this. His and Cass's are much better" Dick commented with an troubled frown as he glanced from his pumpkin to all of his brother's pumpkins. Taking notice over them being horribly awful, and not in an good Halloween sense either.
"Pumpkins aren't meant to be fun or neat. They're meant to be creepy and monstrous. We've just created four terrifying victims that would leave others feeling creeped out as they walked around them. They're perfect. We'll be setting people uneasy from the start" Jason bragged back looking rather smug from where he stood with his fists on his waist, taking in their pumpkins and knowing people would be side stepping them.
"Silence Todd. We can not risk our honour being tainted by these hideous features. I can barely accept the shame I gain from being in the same room as Drake's ugly mug" Damian scoffed back as he was finally released from his oldest brother's hold, though having lost his kitchen knife instead.
And Dick was once more catching another brother and stopping an murder from happening in Alfred's beloved kitchen. Having to shift Jason's weight a bit in his hold but he was able to carry the fully grown man away from their youngest sibling. Even if Timothy was edging him on from the side-lines and only stopping at Dick's disapproving stare.
Dick had promised himself to either be born as an only child or as the youngest child in the family during his next life. He wasn't ever being the oldest again.
"Let's get cleaned up. We can put our final results on the rooftop of Wayne Enterprise tonight. Afterwards we can start patrol" Dick spoke up with an friendly smile, placing Jason down and waving his hand for all to start cleaning up.
It took way too long to clean the kitchen. All knowing it wasn't going to be to Alfred's standards even if it looked clean. But they did their best and they hid their pumpkins so they wouldn't be thrown out, again this year.
All carrying on with their day and heading down to the cave after supper when it was time to prepare for patrol. Batman had long since learnt to not question what any of his children might be hiding in an random sack they've carried towards one of the many vehicles. More so since Batman had opened the sack to find Deathstroke's actual finger inside.
And Bruce had met with Slade the next day as their normal identities only to find that the man still had all his limbs and fingers. Leaving Bruce to question if the man could indeed grown limbs back.
So, the bat brothers, minus Duke who was left at home due to not patrolling at night, all headed to W.E together. Placing their sadly and brutally murdered pumpkins on the rooftop, placing them in a different corner.
And admiring just how terrible of a job they done but at least at night, with the lack of light, their pumpkins looked less bad.
"What do we do with our failed attempts?" Red Robin asks as he glances down to the piled of broken, smacked and damaged pumpkins they had tried carving with first earlier in the day.
"We could throw them at rogues and criminals" Nightwing offered up with an shrug as he looked out towards Gotham, knowing someone would try something tonight.
"Don't make such jokes, Richard. You'll plant foolish ideas in the idiots minds" Robin sighs with an annoyed frown as he shook his head towards his batman, expecting him to behave better.
"Jokes? Dickie over there used to throw things at the rogue in themed with the current holiday. Candy canes during Christmas. Chocolate eggs at Easter. Heart shaped lollies at Valentines. And well, Halloween was normally gummy eyeballs" Red Hood replies as he turns his hooded face to stare at the younger pair, wondering if they've never known over Dick's seasonal attacks until now.
"Is that why you aren't allowed to patrol alone during an seasonal holiday anymore?" Red Robin questions in surprise, always assuming it was due to him always being so into the seasonal holiday and couldn't be trusted to not get distracted by decorations mid-patrol.
"I was fifteen when B caught me doing it. He hoped it was just a fluke. When he learnt I was still doing it as Nightwing, he made "family patrol" happen around holidays to stop me from doing it" Nightwing admitted with an grin as he crossed his arms over his chest, leaning his hip a little and mentioning why their shared patrols started to happen more often around certain times of the year.
"I say we carry on such an Tradition. All Robin's must share traditions and this one seems the most interesting" Robin announced, standing much taller and picking up his sack of failed pumpkins.
"Normally I'd complain over anything Robin related but I want to throw pumpkins at Black Mask" Red Hood commented back but already pulling out his grappling hook to get started on this tradition.
By the end of patrol, either though two of the four held their own apartments, they had all been grounded by Batman, Bruce and Alfred. Batman and Bruce lecturing the four, with and without mask, over their cruelty towards the roughs and warning a few criminals to cry. While Alfred was displeased over them dirtying his kitchen and not cleaning it to his very standards.
