Far into the north pole, hidden among the snow sits a warm and cheerful village. A village full of lively and jolly songs that are sung to pass the time or to express their happiness to one another. A village full of snow, ice and frost but never once complained over the chill in the air as their own body temperatures run high. A village full of colourful lights and crackling fires.
Tasty food shaped as Christmas and hot chocolate was drank as much as water was. All teeth protected magically from the sweetness of Christmas and hands are left rough from building so many Christmas wishes within an year. Greens, reds and whites clothing are common. Gold and silver painted buildings and each doorway carved by two nutcrackers standing on either side of the door, standing as guardians.
This was Santa's home.
A village full of his friends, his helpful elf's who he treated well and respected. Elf's who loved to build and use their magical to bring smiles. That lived peacefully and helped to keep the darkness within a human's soul kept away on Christmas day by a single gift.
Santa who held beloved reindeers in the stables beside his wooden cabin home. Reindeers that he'd take for a run once a year on Christmas eve and run as fast as the speed of sound. Passing on each and every present that was created for those on the nice list. Only leaving candy canes in the stockings of those who had reached the naughty list.
Having to eat more than any other Guardian spirit due to his speed and loving Christmas eve as he's left eating all the goodies left out on a plate for him. Sipping away at the many drinks left out for him too. Passing on the carrots to his animal friends and making sure they're just as spoiled as he was.
"You seem stressed" Dick states as he comes to a stop by his husband's desk in their home, having taken notice over the one he loves not looking very joyful.
"Because I am" Wally whines back as he stares down at the nice list, having checked it more than twice and knowing almost every one has a present. The last lot would be created and wrapped by the end of today's shift. Tomorrow all the presents would be shoved into his sack and loaded onto the sledge he'd be pushing with his reindeers during their run tomorrow night.
"You've done this job for hundreds of years already. It's rarely gone wrong and when it happens, you've solved the problem and fixed it. You'll be great as always" Dick softly says as he pulls his husband chair out from the desk, slipping to lean against the desk and use his body to block his husband's line of sight at the list left dropped. Knowing that his love was only overthinking over the worse that could happen yet again.
"And I fail than the world misses out on Christmas and we're back to living in the dark ages" Wally frowns as he stares down at his lap, remembering how much his uncle had struggled in the dark ages and never wanting to be the reason that such days returned due to his own failure.
"Than we'll use our love for the humans to glow bright enough for their to be light again" Dick promise with a reassuring smile as he takes hold of his husband's cheeks gently, leaning down to meet with his eyes better. Letting him know that they'd use their own light to save the humans from darkness if it's ever needed.
"Being Santa sucks. All the posters show me as an old and fat man. I'm not that fat, am I?" Wally grumbled back in irritation, tensing and starting to grow self conscious as he glances down at himself. Wondering if maybe all the food he's been eating was finally starting to show after all these years of being magically lost during his work.
"I'd love you even if you were" Dick promised with a goofy but love sick smile, not minding the thought of having more of his husband to love.
Wally melts in the love from his husband and forgets all his overthinking worries and fears. Knowing that both he'll be just fine and pass out all the presents to those on his nice list. Keeping Christmas spirt high and rising as always and protecting Christmas day yet again this year.
He focuses on how handsome his husband is and the look of pure love held in his eyes whenever he looks at him. Knowing he made Christmas day every day for his husband by merely standing here and loving him back. For them being togehter all these years and still loving the other as if it was the first day of falling in love.
"How is every holiday handling Christmas?" Wally asked, feeling himself calm down and wondering how the other guardians' were dealing with Christmas. Knew sometimes the power of Christmas can rarely cause problems for them.
"Bruce is expecting a few bad teeth from Children after Christmas with all the sugary treats given to them. A few more children will be losing the last of their baby teeth, leaving him and the others a bit emotional. One of the children was Damian's first baby tooth collection, it'd be the first child to grow up that he's collected from. Big deal for any new tooth fairy, he's completed his first collection from a child. Has the full set and their memories with be safely tucked away in their file" Dick starts to say with a friendly smile before his expression turned more fond and warm as he mentioned their mostly adopted son. Pride in his eyes over such a big and important moment over their son's life as the future tooth fairy.
Even if Wally secretly feels like one of the other Wayne fairies children might take over Bruce and Damian would do a last minute turn to become the next Santa. He did like the north pole better than the caves already. It was just a feeling Wally had felt, a shift in the magic of Christmas and he'd be proud to pass over his hat to his son sometime in the future.
"Do you need to head back over and be a wall of support for him?" Wally asked with a worried smile, knowing that important moments were a time to be surrounded by love ones. Wally wished he could be there but he was needed here for Christmas's last few bits needing to be done and than he'd be tucker out for the next week and be recovering.
"It won't happen until the 29th. You're not easily getting rid of me until after boxing day at least. I always book Christmas off just to be your support and comfort" Dick smiled back as tapped the tip of his husband's nose playfully. Knowing his husband would have wanted to come but would be busy recovering from the Christmas rush.
"The elf's love when you're home. They love being able to get a layer of snow or ice over the land without having to rake it out where it's needed" Wally admitted with a fond grind, glad that his friends had so happily and easily accepted his husband.
"I swear they only blessed our marriage due to my powers" Dick huffed back with his cheeks puffed out. Knowing the elves loved his magic more than his personality half the time.
"At least they don't call you as Frost anymore" Wally offered up a bright side.
"It's not my fault that my Daj was a Frost and decided to take my tati's last name instead. I'm still a frost but I just grew up with Richard Grayson instead. I'm the spirt of winter. I didn't even know what I was if it wasn't for B taking me when my Daj's powers had died out and my Tati died from an broken heart. I would have stayed living as an invisible immortal all by myself, not understanding why I wasn't aging anymore or why no one could see me" Dick grumbled back with a pout as he crossed his arms over his chest. His family still a sore and sad spot for him. Something that the elf's getting his name wrong had rubbed raw over for years.
"How were you even able to live among the humans for as long as you did?" Wally asked curious, rarely speaking over his husband's past before he stopped aging at nineteen. His magic finally settled within him and leaving him to no longer age.
"No clue. B's not even sure. Say's that my Tati must have been gifted to have seen spirits. And his love, his belief in loving my mother and myself had given us enough power to be seen by others. When he lost my Daj, his broken heart had lost the belief and I just.. vanished" Dick rambled back with a light shrug as he let his hands drop to his lap. Never fully knowing over it himself and just learning to live with how he was.
"I'm sorry. I'm meant to filling others with joy and not sorrow" Wally apologizes with a depresses look, standing up and pulling his husband into a hug as he knew talking over the past was difficult for him.
"Don't apologize. It's good to face grief than to run from it. And I am filled with joy. Waking up in our home and having a life with you fills me with pure happiness everyday" Dick sweetly smiled back, pressing a kiss to his husband's cheek before breaking the hug.
"Sap" Wally teased back, his cheeks a bright red from where he grew bashful over his husband's words.
"Hmm" Dick hums back as he leans down and steals a kiss from his husband, truly glad his other half didn't try out the beard this year like he had wanted. He wouldn't have enjoyed stealing kisses from him if he had to feel the beard while doing so.
Dick pulls away first, a silly smile on his face over just how happy he was with his life with his husband. Living in the north pole being the best home for a winter spirit like him, even if he missed the spring caves where his adopted Father, the tooth fairy, and his siblings lived.
He loved the life he had gained himself here and who he got to spend the rest of his spiral life with.
"How are the other holidays? You mentioned only your family" Wally blurted back, realizing that his husband didn't answer the full question and starting to worry that something was wrong with the other guardians spirts.
"Clark and all the Kent's are thumping around in the easter island. Perfectly on time for their easter preparations, as always. Diana are protecting the innocent from nightmares, defending against the darkness at night and never asking for any help over it" Dick calmly answered with a knowing smile, showing that all was well all across the world.
"I hate how I'm always the one running almost late compared to the others. Everyone is always so calm and well timed" Wally grumbled back, slumping down in his chair to sulk a little once more.
"You've got more names on your good list than anyone else does and Diana magic allows her to reach everyone in the town or city from a single spot. You have to actual break into every home to leave behind their presents. Kent's are also a bigger family who take charge over different sections on the island. It's only you and the elf's here, you're all very busy" Dick reminded his husband as this wasn't the first time he grew jealous over the others doing better on the lead way to their holidays.
"How are your siblings handling being able to fly around the caves without risk of their wings freezing up whenever they got near you?" Wally asked with a silly grin, wiggling his eyebrows as he's witness how often the fairies wings freeze up when they've gotten too close to Dick and his chilly air around him.
"They seem to be doing well. Cassandra mentions that Steph and Tim still fly into one another during their fluttering around the caves. Meaning my winter abilities were never at fault for making the cave too cold for them to think. Jason is complaining that he misses how cool I turned the area I stood in since certain parts of the cave are still overly too warm for him to handle. Damian struggles with the heat difference, use to be stepping in as his guardian and grown use to fly with frost covered wings. Finding it easier to fly now but also struggling to grow use to the change of no longer having me hover around. Duke seems okay and Terry is still too young to leave the nest" Dick rambled back with an fond eye roll, going through the list of all his siblings. Smirking when he mentions Steph and Tim still flying into one another during their rush around the caves since he can't be blamed for it anymore.
"Will you stand as a mentor to Terry? I don't want Damian growing jealous if we start having another fairy staying with us two weeks of the month like he does. Damian's basically our son with how much we raised him and still do" Wally mumbled back with a concerned look, knowing they've both grown to be father's for Damian and not wanting their son to feel second best if another kid comes along.
"Terry is going to be mentored by Cass or Tim. Both have taken interested in the job" Dick mutters with a comforting smile, not planning to be a mentor to anyone else unless Damian offers him up to the child instead.
Soon enough Wally-Claus was lost to the Christmas rush and hurrying to get his uniform on once the 24th of December arrived. The elves all working together and helping to load the sack full of presents for the nice children and a smaller sack of candy canes for those on the naughty list. Making sure no one was left forgotten on Christmas.
Dick helping in any and every way possible. Use to the Christmas rush and knowing what he's able to do to make everything go smoother.
By early afternoon he was kissing his husband goodbye and wishing him luck, flying along him and the reindeers as they started their sprint around the world. Stopping near the edge of the north pole and waving his husband off as he grew into the distance.
Returning to their home and glancing to the tracker, watching his husband travel all over and bring Christmas spirit to all around the world. Smiling fondly as he knew how happy and giggly his husband was by bringing joy and smiles to all he runs past.
Welcoming him home with a kiss and a warm mug of hot chocolate.
Helping to get his boots off and get him out of his sweaty smelling uniform and into a warmed bath to soak in. Leaving his fluffiest pyjamas in the bathroom for him to change into and helping with the night shift elves to get the reindeers back into the stables and tucked in for the rest of the night.
Returning to his husband side to find him passed out half way back to bed, dressed in his favourite and fluffiest pyjamas and an empty mug placed down at random. Using the chilly breeze to lift his husband up and carry him to bed, tucking him in and never being more proud of him.
