Batman blamed it all on Dick, he was to blame after all.
It had all started the very first Christmas of Robin flying the Gotham skies.
A shift in the chilly winter air that no one truly understood until it happened.
Robin had dealt with a few nobodies thief's by throwing normal candy canes at them from a rooftop. The boy had stood on the rooftop edge, opened a red sack and thrown candy cane after candy cane towards the criminals until they tripped over.
"Suck on these why you try and get yourselves off the naughty list" Robin had smugly to them, his smile more teeth than lip.
And of course, he'd tied both criminals together with rope that held mini ribbons tied to it to leave the criminals looking like a Christmas present for whatever cop came to collect them.
It was almost Christmas day before Batman had caught on to how Robin had been handling crime during the holiday season. Not even noticing the candy canes given out to both criminals and civilians. The seasonal rope and the naughty list lectures.
All rogues of Gotham had written letters to the Dark Knight, complaining over his seasonal partner that winter. Letters that left Batman learning over Robin doing much more than what he had first thought.
And it only grew from that first Christmas.
Next Christmas Batman found all of his Batarang's painted in golds, greens and yellows with black stripes to look like a bow around them all.
After that year was the casual Reindeer patterns added into both Batman and Robin's capes. Only seen if known over or pointed out by someone who knew over them.
The following year came with Robin just full on throwing presents filling with sleeping gas at a few of the more difficult rouges. As well as the red and silver handcuffs used.
Robin still hasn't stopped throwing candy canes towards rogues and criminals throughout all of the holiday season either. Only giving out the candy canes kindly and gently towards children and civilians he passed by or saved.
Their socks being swapped for Christmas patterned ones the year afterwards and Batman had found cookies in his sweet pouch. Knowing Alfred was helping Dick.
Everyone winter that came, Robin found a way to fight crime while keeping it seasonal themed. And Batman was left trapped playing along with it all. Batman was still fairly bitter over the paint job done to the Batmobile to make it seem like Santa's sleigh.
The worse over it all was the never ending singing of Christmas songs. Fighting crime, he was singing some. Being kidnapped, he was singing them even when he got gagged. Patrolling, he was singing them.
And Richard Grayson was a skilled singer, he was born to preform and held the voice of an angel even if it was a skill he didn't use often. So, it wasn't his voice that was the problem but the overly sang Christmas songs being repeated yet again during December.
Bruce would have hoped that when Dick was no longer robin, the seasonal fun was stopped. But it wasn't, Nightwing was still carrying on with it. And Bruce even had a present left in the cave, fully empty and showing he was currently on Nightwing's naughty list. Alfred had been given a much prettier present box filled with all his preferred treats showing how far up Nightwing's good list he was.
And Nightwing taught the season habits to EVERY SINGLE ROBIN, to EVERY BAT and Bird, that followed after him. Leaving Batman's suffering and all of Gotham's rouges suffering never ending even when the boy wonder was flying elsewhere.
Some criminals even whispered, huddled together in the darkest and quietest spots that sometimes on Christmas eve you could hear an evil crackling bird throughout the night instead of Santa's jolly "Ho,Ho Ho's". Such gossip that even Jason talked over to Bruce when he was first taken in and Bruce wondered just how often Dick snuck into Gotham to scare the people.
It's why Bruce has grown alarmed and very suspicious towards his oldest the moment Christmas decorations are sold in stores. Always trying to figure out any of his jolly pranks or plans that he may use against Gotham.
Having his burner phone go off with calls and texts none stop when Decembers with all the rogues and criminals complaints or stories involving his eldest Robin.
Bruce had pleaded and tried bribing his son to stop being a Krampus at Christmas. None it worked, his eldest thrived on standing as a modern Krampus to Gotham. The people encouraging him wasn't helping either in Bruce's eyes.
Batman has even spoken with Santa, hoping he could talk with Dick over stop being an Krampus. But the elderly and fat traitor had mentioned he couldn't lecture Dick when the boy was still on his good list. Apparently Dick had serval lives full of being on the good list, something Batman wasn't bitter over with when he's been fighting to stay off the naughty list every year. He wasn't the one throwing candy canes at criminal and yet he always had to prove he was good enough for the goody list, it wasn't fair.
With failed attempt after failed attempt to stop his eldest from his seasonal methods of dealing with criminals. Bruce had just stayed on high alert and ready to move into action to try and discourage his son from any Christmas themed terror.
Meaning the moment he noticed his children all gathering to head out on patrol together, all looking peaceful and jolly, he mistrusted them all instantly.
"Where are you going?" Bruce questioned, squinting his eyes towards the hero geared up group. Not trusting them a single bit and knowing Dick was planning something.
"Out on patrol" Cass innocently answered as she pointed towards all their vehicles they had been heading towards.
"Even Duke?" Bruce asked back as he stared straight towards Gotham's daytime hero. There wasn't a huge and sudden Arkham break out from what he knew over meaning his newest adopted child shouldn't be heading out at night for patrol.
"Just for five minutes. I'll be heading to bed afterwards" Duke replied with an toothy smile as he pulled his cowl down.
"Where's Dick?" Bruce asked, eyes scanning around all of the cave he could see and finding no sign of his oldest. He couldn't handle another team up of all of his children acting like Gremlins in Gotham. The news coverage from last Christmas had barely just stopped being mentioned.
"Out" Tim awkwardly replied as he looked everywhere but at Bruce.
"Where's his sack?" Bruce demanded as he stood up, ignoring the dizzy feeling taking over him and filling with panic as he knew his son had been released on Gotham yet again this winter.
"What sack?" Stephine stupidly asked, trying to play dumb over the red sack full of goodies for Nightwing to use against Criminals, all seasonal painted and designed.
"Oh no" Bruce breathed out in his horror, knowing it was already too late to stop his son yet again. Krampus Grayson was already set free, all of Gotham criminals his prey once more.
"You can't stop him from spreading the joy. It's Christmas eve. People must be merry!" Jason snapped back, pointing an accusing finger towards Batman and acting like he was being an Scrooge.
"Where are you all meeting hi-" Bruce started to question before suddenly slumping forward and falling face first into the cave floor, fast asleep.
"Pennyworth, Father has been drugged. We shall be on our way to meet Richard now" Damian simply calls out, unbothered over his unconscious father since it'd mean he won't be a scrooge tonight now.
"I had feared that I did not put an high enough portion in his tea earlier but it seems to only be slightly delayed. Have an merry outing tonight everyone. Spread cheer to all criminals of Gotham that are keeping my grandchildren out on Christmas eve" Alfred sighed, unpleased over the sleeping dosage being delayed in working like it did. Less amused over his grandchildren still going out on Christmas eve.
It won't be until Bruce woke up on Christmas morning, regretting to turn on the news that he learnt how much of an Krampus his eldest was and with all his other children being Gremlins fed after midnight and set free on Gotham too.
The city was covered in tinsel wrapped criminals, the main escaped rogues returned to Arkham with flashing Christmas lights blinking around them. The city street's filled with candy canes, scattered all over the place.
Bruce merely sighed, ran a hand down his face and flicked the candy cane left on his bedside table away. Knowing it was a cheap hint over an apology from his eldest over all what he's done during patrol the night before.
Bruce was starting to understand the Grinch plenty more since becoming a father. He'd love to hide away in the middle of nowhere and deal with no other soul around during winter. Keep Ace, the family dog as his only form of company during his stay away.
