Dick had rarely felt the cold.

He was raised among the circus where his body grew use to the chill in the air and harden from the cold weather.

Gotham was always had a nip to the air that bit hat his nose or cheeks. Always left his thighs feeling numb but painful.

But he still felt the cold less than the rest of his family.

It's how Nightwing always did better in winter compared to all the other bats and birds.

Criminals would always assume that Nightwing would struggle in winter due to his thinner uniform and less gear to keep him warm.

That watching  the other bats and birds grow a little bit slower and have to rely on their warmer upgrades to their uniforms and gears would mean Nightwing would grow worse.

Never look down upon your enemy unless you wish to fall to your knees before them and earn them looking down on you next.

Nightwing was he best in winter, he was immune to the cold but he wasn't held back by the chilly air either.

He'd leave the criminals surprise and have them taken down quick and swiftly enough.

Those smarter would remember that he wasn't held back in winter, would form a plan to face him if he was the one to appear out of all the others wearing a bat symbol.

Some forgot over him as they fight the other bats or birds more often and suddenly having Nightwing against them would be an unexpected change.

Even Batman grew to relying on Nightwing during the colder nights, trusting him to keep their city protected and safe while the others struggled.

No one grew weak in the cold, none of the bats and birds would easily fall but they were slower, struggled and were forced to push themselves even harder.

It left Nightwing willingly pick up the slack, to work harder to give an easier patrol for his siblings. He never liked seeming them unwell or struggling, he wanted them tucked in a warm bed and out of reach from harms way.

But with his harden skin, it meant that the rare few nights he felt the cold, it was brutal.

Once the chill had reached his bones, left him shivering and growing a painful numbness. He'd struggle to feel heat again, has to fight to warm up again and most often fails.

When Nightwing finally feels the cold, he starts to shut down as if he was a Talon.

A thought that neither Dick nor Bruce liked to think over since they knew how much the owls would have loved for Dick to be weaken by the cold like an Talon before becoming one. They've never told the other bat members, told them over the court and the hints over another life Dick could have lived. But neither spoke much details over the obsession the owls had for Dick.

And tonight, Dick felt the cold.

His patrol was nearing the end and he found himself on a fire escape, unable to carry on.

His body was trembling, he felt frozen and he knew he wouldn't be able to grapple home with how numb his fingers and toes had grown.

It wasn't safe enough for him to walk towards the cave either, he's limbs were shaking and pain from the cold shot through his body with every step.

He desired heat, to fill with warmth that'd flow through all his body and leave him kicking back the chill once more.

His prays were answered as a pair of heavy boots landed at the top of the fire escape. The metal creaking and groaning as weight moved down the ladders, heading further down to the half way point where Nightwing was hiding.

"Fuck, Dickhead. Why'd you stayed out this long? Should have headed in hours ago" Red Hood hissed out, his voice modulator crackling as it tried to pick up the small frustrated huffs and sighs.

"Didn't f-fee-feel so b-ba-bad" Nightwing stuttered out, his teeth chittering and his jaw shaking with them, leaving him to find speaking a bit troublesome.

"The little shits would weep if someone came past and cracked your icicle form. Heck, the old man would try cloning your shattered icicle remains due to not coping to lose you" Red Hood grumbled back as he took in how much the other was feeling the cold and knowing they had to start warming him up fast before he passes out like he's done in the past. It won't do any of them any good if a rogue spots him passed out from the cold, spreading the rumours that Nightwing was down for some of winter.

"I-I ma-may fe-fee-feel like ice b-bu-but I'm not a-act-actua-actually made of it" Nightwing huffed back, starting to slip down against the railings that he has been leaning against to keep himself standing.

"Whatever. I've got a safe house with working heating close by. Better not hog all my blankets" Red Hood sighed, kneeling down before the older man and knowing the manor would be too far for him now.

They needed to heat him up. Leaving him trapped under piles of blanket while the heating was on full blast. Pass over hot water bottles and fill him up with a warm meal and hot chocolate.

His safe house was closest and wouldn't hold any real lectures from the bat himself or the mini bats and birds fluttering around. The longer they all try to lecture the longer it'd take for them to get Dickiebird to somewhere warmer and start feeling his toes again.

"Can you stay awake long enough to travel a block away?" Red Hood asked as he thought over the best way to carry the other man to the apartment. It was either going to be firemen carry or princess carry depending how well the other could stay awake.

"Hmm" Nightwing hummed back tiredly, lolling his head to the side and mostly having it slumped against his cheek.

"I'll take that as a no" Red Hood deadpans as he looks to the other and knowing he was growing worse with each passing second. He'd joke the other was a Talon if he didn't know how uncomfortable it made him whenever someone teases over any links to him and a talon.

"I'll be awake. I just can't promise to have a strong grip when it's needed" Nightwing replies with a faint smile, his eyes opened behind his domino and he knew he wouldn't fall asleep until they're both tucked up somewhere safe for the rest of the night.

"Firemen carry it is" Red Hood announces as he scoops the other, not overly gentle in thrown him over his shoulders and standing again.

"Not going to treat me like your princess?" Nightwing grunts out in a teasing tone, not overly enjoying the rough handling of his already pained numb body. Feeling as if needles were stabbing him all over while also feeling so frozen that he might have been made of ice.

"Not when we both know the other brats would tease us both over the photos" Red Hood gruff voiced replied as he headed towards the railings, planning to drop down and use a grapple to slow their landing.

Nightwing stayed chattering away as he was carried along. Proving he was awake the whole time and most likely annoying the younger but bigger man currently carrying him. Mentioning over Christmas plans and trying to win the other over on coming for Christmas dinner at least. Knowing it'd make Alfred happy to have him home for a single day of the holidays.

Grinning in victory as he knew the other was weak to making Alfred disappointed. Knowing the other was popping up at the manor at some point on Christmas day before the meal is due to be served and at least stay until desert is finished.

Soon enough Dick was gaining a peek at one of Jason's favourite safe houses. The apartment was small but not a tiny shoebox either. It was small enough for one or two people to live comfortably.

He mostly saw only the living room space and the bathroom. Having been dunked in a hot bubble bath to try and warm him up a bit quicker. Left dunk in a spare of Jason's warmest winter pyjamas that thankfully had an elastic waist band.

Soon wobbled out from the bathroom to slump down on the old and worn couch. Being buried alive in the man blankets Jason had kept in the safe house, knowing how many blankets all heroes go through with how often they're bleeding out or fighting away frost by after a fight with Mr Freeze.

Dick mostly melted under the warmth he was drowning in. Humming in content as the heating had finally kicked in and the ice along his bones were finally melting away. The numbness fading from his frozen skin and he was feeling human again.

"I would marry you if I didn't have to leave these blankets" Dick cooed out as he sat himself up, having half the blankets draped over his shoulders and the other half across his lap. Eyeing up the plateful of freshly cooked food and a steaming mug of freshly done hot chocolate.

"You'd have to gain Alfred's blessing first. I won't marry anyone he doesn't approve over" Jason pointed out as he slowed to a stop beside the couch, placing the hot chocolate down on the coffee table knowing the other wouldn't be able to eat while holding the steaming mug.

"Think I could gain his approval from under these blankets?" Dick asked with a cheeky smile and never wanting to leave these blankets ever again.

"Unlikely" Jason answered honestly, grimacing at the mere thought over someone trying to gain his grandfather's approval while hiding under blankets. He wouldn't even marry the man who showed his grandpa such little respect while asking for his hand in marriage blessing.

"I'll marry you once I can wiggle my toes again" Dick decided on instead as he snuggled into the blankets even more.

"Fair enough. For now eat this and drink that" Jason ordered out as he forced the plate of the food into the older man's hands.

Dick happily started digging in while Jason left for the kitchen to grab his own plate of food and recently made cup of tea. Sitting in one of the corner end chairs and placing his tea down on an end table beside his chair. Crossing his legs and digging in.

It wasn't until two plates and two lots of cutlery were in the sink that Jason finally started growing cold himself. His apartment was hot as hell but he felt a slight draft in his chair that earned him to shiver.

A blanket to the face reminded him where all his blankets were currently held at. All being held captured by the original boy wonder himself. Jason gave an irritated huff as he pulled the blanket from his face before freezing as he recognized the blanket.

It was a gift from Dick, before they started getting on better terms at the manor during his Robin days. He knew now why Dick was as much as a .. well Dick to him during his own Robin days. He understood what happened between Bruce and Dick better now, understood the other boy was hurt. In more ways than one by Bruce when Robin had been stolen and given to a stranger to him.

But while Dick wasn't the best role model during those early days. He did leave behind a random present on his birthday. A green blanket, it wasn't overly dark but not overly light in colour, Jason still wasn't sure over the fading colour now. But it held a real shitty sewing patch of a Robin in the centre. A Robin safely tucked in it's nest. Dick really had terrible sewing skills and the patch had started falling off in the first early hours of opening the present.

Alfred had offered to take the blanket and redo the sewing so the blanket would be useable still. Jason had refused at first, not wanting someone to meddle with the gift that he had grown attached to for some odd reason. He had liked the blanket more than the collection of books or clothes given to him.

A blanket was a touching gift for him. For a street rat who had always been left trapped in the cold and daydreaming over a warm blanket tucked around him and a heater on full blast. A blanket was useful all round the year. Books couldn't help keep him alive during winter unless he had matches to burn the pages with as a makeshift fire. Clothes he'd grow out off or couldn't risk wearing such brands without being attacked and having them stolen afterwards.

Dick's blanket with the awfully sewn patch in the middle had warmed his heart and made him feel seen, truly seen.

He finally let Alfred use the same thread that Dick had chosen, a yellow matching the Robin costume in the cave and somehow, magically, sewn the patch back down more securely without having to use new thread. Jason didn't know how he did it but he was grateful.

He'd used the blanket under his covers for the rest of his stay at the manor. Always hiding the blanket under the covers so it won't be taken to be washed or thrown away for being tatty.

He'd unknowingly stolen it the first time he returned to the manor for the shake of seeing Alfred. No one else was come or nearby. He'd stepped into his room when Alfred had needed to do some chore that Jason wasn't interested in. Instead he snuck into his old room and unconsciously peeked under his neatly made bed covers and found the blanket still tucked underneath. Neatly spread out, clearly by Alfred who had always known over the blanket being there, and left waiting for him to use again.

Jason knew he grew more attached to the blanket once he and Dick started to finally bond and get along better. Knew the older man wasn't as much as a Dick as his nickname might make strangers think. Felt as if the blanket had meant that he was given a nest among the Robin's club and would always hold a space with the nest.

And he did, even if the pit's anger sometimes made him think otherwise.

Alfred never mentioned over his old bedroom losing the blanket nor did Jason admit that he had hidden the blanket in his favourite safe house.

"Might have to get you a new blanket. That one looks well loved" Dick muttered with a fond smile as he watched the younger man drape the old blanket over his lap and struggling to curl under it since he had outgrown it.

"Just ask Alfred to sew on the patch this time. Might last longer" Jason passed on some needed advice as he wouldn't be rushing to the manor just to ask Alfred to use one of his many talents to repair another falling apart blanket.

"You should simply be thankful that you didn't gain any blood stains on that blanket. The Titans teased me over all the times I cut myself using a needle. None of them offered to help though. Mostly due to still being angry at B for me" Dick started to joke, giving a light chuckle before a sad smile took over his lips as he remembered his first team.

"They seem to have moved on from hating him" Jason commented with a small shrug, finding it a shame since he'd love a group of heroes to join him in disagreeing with his father figure's methods. Where was his hate group when he needed one? He was adding that to his list of jealousy.

"Most of them have died since. Donna wouldn't have forgiven him. She actual had Diana pin her down and drag her away when she was told last minute that they'd be joining up with Batman and his new Robin. It lost you a chance at meeting Wonder Women, sorry about that. Donna would have felt bad if she knew how much of a fanboy you were over her mentor" Dick explained with a small apologetic smile, his eyes warm as he looked towards Jason. Knowing how much of a fan he was of wonder women and knew he missed a chance at meeting her before he died. He knew Donna would have never forgiven herself for ruining such a dream for him if she had known.

"No one talks much over the original Wonder girl. Roy nor Kory mention her much. Not even when they talk over old memories" Jason admitted with a frown, curious over the other wonder twin he knew over but never heard about.

"Roy loved her. We all loved her, in different ways. Kory only met her near the end if her involvement with the titans. Wally still chokes on a sob whenever he talks over our fallen friends, knowing he was given a chance to return while they never did. He lives with guilt over a second chance of life" Dick rambles back with a distance look in his eyes, pulling some of the blankets a little tighter around him as he thought over the past. So many had fallen since he was a boy, some he never even got to say goodbye too.

"How did you love her?" Jason asked, shuffling in the chair to lean a little closer. Curious over the older man's answer.

"She was my family. I wouldn't have ever married her, she was just family. As I were to her. The Two Wonder kids. She wanted better. She deserved better" Dick answered honestly, his eyes sad but his smile was gentle.

"Was it her idea over getting me a blanket?" Jason asked, assuming that Donna or one of the other titans had helped over choosing the blanket as a present for him. Scared that maybe he felt more meaningful over the blanket than Dick was.

"She was against it. Afraid that if I gave you a present than you'd assume I was going to accept you and be a better.. co-hero. She was still mad at B but she didn't want me to be cruel towards you since you were innocent in it all. She didn't want to watch me hurt you by showing you some attention that wouldn't last" Dick confesses with an bashful expression as he scratched his cheek. Knowing Donna had been against the present idea at all and explaining why Donna had been against it, she was trying to protect Jason.

"And yet you still gave me a birthday present. Well, you left it behind during your tea drinking with Alfred while I was at school" Jason smiled back, amused over the other not listening to his twin wonder. Glad he didn't listen to the women since it left him with one of his favourite presents.

"Deep down I know you didn't deserve my anger or hatred. I was hurt. I knew blaming B wouldn't change anything since he'd never apologize. Never would and never have. You were the easy target to place the blame afterwards. I knew, deep down at the time, it was wrong. Being young wasn't an excuse. And I regret my actions. I didn't want you to grow to hate being Robin because of me. Robin was meant to be light, to love and feel joy over the feeling of flying. I didn't want t o steal that from you. I thought having your own Robin merch, even if it was terribly handmade would make you happy. I wanted you to be hold a happy memory with Robins" Dick spoke with a sad smile as he tighten his grip over his second hot chocolate and holding it close. Thinking over his younger days and knowing he had wronged Jason. Knowing he had chosen that blanket in hopes to not stain Robin for Jason.

"Why a blanket?" Jason asked, always wondering if Dick understood how touching the blanket was to a street kid.

"I thought you'd need the comfort. Knew B wasn't very good in that department and Alfred tries but he's lacking in that department as well sometimes. I wanted you to feel safe and have the comfort whenever you desire it. I couldn't built you a nest to escape towards when needed but I could give you a shield, a blanket to hide under instead. Had to get the patch personalized since no one sold a Robin in it's nest looking happy and snuggled in. Than I tried sewing it on and assumed it'd just be thrown away after a couple of days. Knew that I deserved it if you rejected the gift itself" Dick rambled with his honest answer, smiling down at his hot chocolate reflected the light above. Knowing how much hard work he put in to get the patch made and using his own savings to pay for it. All the cuts on his fingers from trying to sew the patch on alone. Him having pictured this cute and perfect blanket for the young teen only for realistic to smack him in the face over how bad crafted his hands were.

"It was my favourite. Still is. I don't need a replacement. This one can still last a good few more years" Jason confesses softly, warmly smiling down at the blanket that only covered some of his legs now. Knowing he'd never want to be rid of it.

Dick just sent him a sappy smile, happiness filling his blue eyes as he never thought his first present for a boy he had treated wrongly would be as loved as it was. Wishing he had woken up from his own idiotic thought pattern and gained a better bond with the second Robin much sooner. To have a lasting friendship that survived even the pit. But he couldn't change the past, they both knew that much.

Instead, when Jason had reached his favourite safe house after returning from the manor on the 25th of December. Returning much later than he had first planned since he did have a decent time with his family.

Only heading home once he and the rest started growing tired. He was willing to stand with the family, eat with them again but he wasn't prepared to sleep under the manors roof.

He still saw a young boy hiding in the library with a book. He still heard the echoing of footsteps from a young boy rushing from one end of the manor to another. He still smelled the young boy who had started using fancy soaps and trying to find the scent he had liked most.

He still saw blue eyes that had yet to be turned green after death.

Jason wasn't prepared to sleep with that old ghost even if Alfred had offered a guest bedroom for him to use instead.

But why Jason had a pleasant day at the manor on Christmas, he enjoyed the single present left tucked under his covers in his bed.

Having jumped at first when climbing in bed to find it before calming himself when he noticed the scribbling handwriting over the family's mamabird.

Smiling fondly once he had opened the present to find another ugly green blanket but much larger than the old one, left in his care. A neatly sewn, clearly by Alfred, patch of a handful of Robin's and bat's around a nest. A handful in the nest, some leaping from the edges about to fly and the rest flying above and underneath. A single lion laid on the opposite side of the nest edge to one of the Robins.

The patch had clearly been personalized as well.

In the centre of the nest stood a Robin with a red helmet. Snuggled by his side stood another robin with the blue Nightwing symbol across it's chest.

A large bat flew above the nest with a tinier bat with the Robin symbol across one of it's wings flying a little lower. Another Robin stood on the nest, about to fly off and held a cowl over the top half of it's face. A thinner but bigger bat than the smallest stood flying under the nest with a purple bat twirling beside it. A red bat flew in the distance while a blue and purple bat hanged from underneath the nest.

An old lion with a grey whiskers lazed along the edge of the nest, on the opposite side to the Robin in a cowl. The Lion had clearly been a form of Alfred, using a lion for the English butler.

All of the batclan was mixed into the single patch sewn neatly onto the centre of the blanket. Not a replacement to his old blanket but a new addition that showed just how full the nest was after all these years. How the little Robin had spread it's wings enough to fly and gain a flock of it's own.

Jason chose to ignore the flutter of his heart at the sight of clearly him and Dick cuddled up in the nest of their home togehter.

He's still haven't gotten rid of his crush on the first Robin and didn't need himself start turning flustered every time they've spent time together.

But he was looking forward to gifting a wedding present that was an odd shade of green blanket with a personalized patch sewn in. A patch that would show two grown up Robin's snuggled in their very own nest.

A blanket that would be gifted to his future husband who wore a blue symbol across his chest and needed to snuggle against his husband who'd wear a red symbol across his chest due to needing to be warmed up from the cold.

And unlike the two blankets gifted to him by his future husband already, he'd gift a blanket sewn by his own hands that wouldn't need a certain respected butlers help afterwards.

For now, he'll wait until a certain blue Robin to final ask his grandfather for his blessing over asking for a certain red chested Robin's hand in marriage.
