Gotham was known to be the home of the Dark Knight.
It was known that Bats creeped in the darkest shadows and Birds flew high in the blinding light.
Gotham was the worse crime filled locations known on earth and maybe even throughout the universe, according to Green Lanterns preferring space wars to dealing with a Bat.
But not many have truly known over the Bat's Cauldron.
They've met a few and heard rumours others.
But Batman rarely allowed the Justice League to hold any links to those from him Cauldron.
It was always a special day or night whenever a bat or bird was joining on a mission with the league. Normally it meant the world was close to ending or a very important mission where they couldn't fail but people still accepted how important it was for Batman to bring one of his personal comrades along.
The only other bird the league has ever truly met and grew to be friends with were Nightwing, a member of the Justice League.
A hero who had popped up in Blüdhaven years ago before flying between Blüdhaven and Gotham and finally settling in Gotham within the last five years.
Rumours spoke over him using another hero name during his yearly years before Batman spoke to Superman over an old story and suddenly, Nightwing had been birthed to the hero community.
Superman never seemed to have rejected the new hero taking on such a name, instead he felt as if he was given apart of his own world to his life. Grew childish delight to personally see Nightwing take to the skies once more as if he was reborn into their timeline.
Nightwing was the perfect partner for Batman.
The duo was unstoppable and could have easily taken over the planet if they chosen to stand as kings instead of heroes one day.
Nightwing was as well respected and feared as the Dark Knight was, but Nightwing was more well loved and seen as kinder.
Even if Batman did silently judge the Flash who mentioned over Nightwing being friendlier and supportive compared to the dark knight. Batman commenting that they should try eating Nightwing's cereal by accident and see how kind and loving he was after that.
But all in all, every Justice League knew over the dynamic duo, they were unstoppable and god help anyone who even grew close to taking one away from the other.
"Your skillsets are no longer needed, you may return to Gotham" Batman coldly dismissed the other, his eyes flicking towards the clock on the debriefing room wall and noticing the time of afternoon.
"You don't need to send me home early, B. I can hold out a little longer" Nightwing replied with an reassuring smile, not even daring to glance at the time as he knew it wasn't as late as some might fear it to be.
"It'd be foolishly to waste anymore energy here when it's unneeded" Batman argued back with his gruff voice, clearly disapproving over the other not leaving as he was told to do.
"And we both know you'll stay here longer then needed to make sure it's all done correctly. If I stay, at least we can both leave at a reasonable time" Nightwing huffed back as he crossed his arms over his chest, leaning his hip out and not pleased either.
The rest of the league members who were here to pass on their reports and virions of the latest mission all watched silently from the side-lines. Glancing between the bird and bat, none knowing who'd break first since it was always an equal chance when involving the pair. Nightwing was always on solid and fair footing with the bat, never one to just back down or be spooked off. And Batman was unable to always stand on top against Nightwing, sometimes even put in his own place by the bird.
Batman lost this time, sighing as he gave a defeated nod. Returning to write up everyone's side point over the latest mission why Nightwing moved to read over the reports the others were ready to pass over to add to the mission file.
People either sitting or standing within the debriefing room, a smaller one that was mostly used as a work space for after missions. Batman taking a seat at the head of the table, opening up an halo screen to get to work. Nightwing taking a seat beside him on the left side of the table.
Flash nervously glanced between the two, always a good guy and always willing to help. But tonight he had plans that he really couldn't miss and he felt guilty over leaving once he'd passed on his report to Nightwing and spoke over it to Batman. Nightwing giving an comforting smile, patting the speeder on the shoulder and giving an encouraging nod for him to get going already. With the leagues "mama birds" approval, Flash left without looking back.
Those without plans or had any need to rush to leave held back and allowed those needing to go as soon as possible to go first. Leaving the work going a bit more quicker with those hoping to leave in a hurry soon going through the after mission work quickly but professionally, not daring to make a single mistake that'd force them to stay longer.
And once all of them were done, those that didn't mind going last due to not needing to rush off were soon bored enough to rush through their work. Wanting to leave and fed up with hovering around by now. Making no mistakes and just wanting to go and as soon as they were done, they were gone.
Leaving Batman and Nightwing to talk by themselves as they finished their own share. Writing up their reports, word to word, as much as possible. Letting the other read over the others reports before typing in anything more needed from each other over the mission.
Both finally getting their own share of the work done much sooner then they'd have done if only one of them had stayed. Nightwing giving an tired grin towards the bat, happy for them to finally be done.
"The bats and birds won't please over losing extra cuddle time" Batman commented as he glanced to the time shown on the halo screen, knowing it'd be mid patrol right now in their city.
"They'll live. And I'll just have to snuggle them more tomorrow" Nightwing smiled back sweetly, swiping on the halo before him and closing it down.
"I'm not paying for any property damage they've done due to their outlash over missing out on cuddle time. You know how moody and grumpy they grow to be if they lose such time" Batman warned as he started to stay, closing his own halo screen as he stood.
"I'll take the blame and apologize to the commissioner once we get back over their behaviours" Nightwing replied, accepting having to be the parent that deals with the aftermath of all the bats and birds tantrums on missing out pre-patrol cuddle time.
"None will please once they learn that you could have gotten back in return but refused" Batman sighed, shaking his head as he could already feel an headache growing.
"And I won't have them miss seeing you when they could have if I had stayed and helped. Now they'll see us both tonight still" Nightwing sighs with a small frown as they started heading out of the room together.
And Batman wasn't wrong. The next evening a few league members sent a message out towards the Bat with concerns over Gotham's state the night before. News mentioning over the Gotham city criminals being hit a bit harder or more property damage had been reported with no evidence over the culprits left behind. An blurry photo taken from rather far away showed the blurry form of Nightwing's back turned to the photo taker and it almost looked like Nightwing had an buffed up young adult in a red helmet clinging to him like an huge toddler.
Batman didn't reply to any of the messages sent to him, to busy dealing with all the sulking bats and birds in his city. It seemed having both parents to tuck them in bed or check that they're safe and sound after patrol wasn't enough to have pre-patrol cuddle time cancelled.
Batman was bribing all his children for the whole day and night, while being glared at for hogging "Baba/Tati" from his family. Even while most of his children had ended up stealing and gaining all the attention from his husband during the next day and night without shame.
The League knew over Robin, the "blood son" to the dark knight. He'd had followed Batman into the watchtower a few times during his first arrival as Robin. Before mostly clinging to Nightwing at a random point in time and not daring anyone to even look in Nightwing's direction while he was around.
Not even Batman was allowed to step any closer than three meters to Nightwing while the Robin was around during those early days. It's grown better since. But most league members keep a decent distance from Nightwing whenever he's with Robin. More so when the man coo's over how adorable the stabby bat is.
And they all rush home or run further into the watchtower away from Nightwing whenever Robin is seen as vulnerable or child-like. Just like today.
Nightwing was walking around with the ten year old held carefully in his arms, Robin's head on his shoulder, almost buried into his neck and fast asleep. Looking the every part of a defenceless and almost normal child as he slept soundly. Nightwing humming an old tune that he's long sine forgotten the words too.
"He's getting too big to be carried" Batman confessed with a small frown, looking towards his son and wondering when he suddenly grew up from the deadly seven year old assassin left on his doorstep. Well, left on his husband's old apartment doorstep due to the League of Assassin's getting the wrong address.
"You said the same thing over Red Hood and Batwomen but I still carry them just fine" Nightwing pointed out smugly, happily swaying around the room with their sleeping son and trying to keep him asleep since he clearly needed the extra nap.
"Batwomen isn't even one of us. She's older then I am. You shouldn't be carrying her. Why have you been carrying her?" Batman blurted out, confused and panicked over the news that his husband has been carrying his cousin around.
"She falls dead asleep when drunk. I mostly carry her home whenever her normal bar calls to come collect her at closing time" Nightwing sheepishly admitted with an weak smile. Forgetting his husband didn't know over the calls sent to the manor due to Batwomen.
"Why do I let her stay near our family?" Batman asked as he glanced up to the sky like some higher being would suddenly take pity on him.
"Because she's family and we love her. Even with all her issues" Nightwing grinned back as he danced around his husband, grinning goofily at him.
Batman just sighs, more fondly than anyone would ever know and return to watching his husband and youngest child. Watching with warmth in his eyes as he he'd always feel his heart clench at the sight of his family together and creating sweet moments like this one.
Wondering when he ever grew to be lucky enough to gain the family he has grown to have. Knowing he was lucky to have been given them and always seeing his family a blessing he knew he'd never deserve.
"Stop staring so sappily. You'll make me get all emotional" Nightwing warned his husband, finally coming to a stop as he stares at his husband with an knowing look.
"I was just cherishing the good in my life" Batman lets slip, still staring sappily at his husband.
The Justice League might never truly meet all the birds and bats of Gotham.
But they have met the parents of Gotham's Cauldron.
And knew they the cauldron would be forever well protected, loved and cherished.
