If you're just here for the fic feel free to just move on to the next chapter; this is just here so I can ramble a bit about this fic and why it is now being rewritten for the third time.

This fic first began as something without a plot I just threw myself into for the fun of it - it was called Hunters or the Hunted (Dec. 12th, 2020), and a few chapters in, I realized how much I liked the worldbuilding ideas I had and how much potential the fic had, so I scrapped the incoherent writing and began anew.

This time, it earned its name, Fly or Fall (Jan. 16th, 2021), and three chapters in, jello12451 agreed to beta read for me, which was kind of them - Jello, if you're reading this, thank you so much and you're awesome. I'll be going without beta reading for this final version, but they helped me smooth out of ton of ideas that will impact this version too.

We got all the way to chapter 11 (10 chapters plus a prologue), before I hit a metaphorical brick wall. I liked the ideas, but they kept changing, which made the overall fic inconsistent. I let this fic fester a while in my WIPs and eventually, when school had calmed down a bit and I felt like my ideas were solidified, I came back to it. (I also had to crawl out from the light eating abyss that is Genshin Impact and I still love Genshin, I've just also managed to do this at the same time)

This time, after rereading, I recognized that my writing had improved drastically over the time period that I had stopped writing this fic for. Thus, when I decided to finish this fic, I knew I would have to rewrite it, because I was beginning to loathe what I had written so far.

And so now, more than a year later, I believe I am done. This fic is finally on track, something I like, something I want to share with you guys. 

I've rewritten three chapters, and still going strong, so expect an irregular but fairly quick update schedule. And for all of you: the ones here from the very beginning, the ones who joined in the chaos sometime in between, the ones who have just found this fic and know nothing about me nor particularly care - thank you.
