Chapter 2

Rowan (A/N: Rowan is one of my oc's) jogged through the forest.  He had been traveling through the woods all night.  He stopped for a moment to take deep breaths.  But before he could continue walking, someone shoved him to the ground.  He looked up to see the Adams siblings from District Four, John and Abigail, standing above him.

"Well look what we found.  Little Rowan from District Eleven," John smirked.

Rowan was fifteen, so being called little made him furious.  He jumped up and yanked a dagger out of his pocket.  The Adams siblings began to circle him, making sure he couldn't escape.  Rowan lunged for Abigail, slashing at her leg.  She squealed in pain, and Rowan prepared to stab her again.  Suddenly, pain erupted from his chest.  He looked down to see the tips of a trident sticking out of his abdomen.  Rowan fell to the ground as his blood spilled and turned the dirt and grass red.

Satisfied, the District Four tributes walked away, leaving the Eleven boy behind.  Rowan looked around the forest.  There was only one winner of the Hunger Games, and it wasn't going to be him.

The sound of footsteps startled him out of his thoughts.  He turned his head to see two boys, Alexander from Twelve and John Laurens from Ten, standing a few feet away looking at him.

"I think he's still alive," Alexander whispered.

"Well duh," Rowan responded weakly, surprising the two.

"Are you okay?" Laurens asked.

"I've been better.  It's not every day you get stabbed by a trident and are left to die," he replied. "Well, there's nothing you guys can do to save me, so don't bother.  I wasn't ever going to win in the first place."

"But... your score of eight from the assessment," Alexander muttered.

It was true; Rowan had received an eight for his skills with the dagger during testing.  But most of Careers had scores ranging from nine to ten, so he still wasn't nearly as good a fighter as they were.  He began to feel himself slipping away.  He turned back to the two tributes and gave them a quick smile.

"Do me a favor and take down the Careers, okay?" Rowan asked.

"We'll try," Laurens said.

"Okay.  Thanks," he smiled as the world began to fade.

Rowan even heard his own canon fire.
