Day 22: The Perfect Birthday

October 22nd 2020
Prompt: Birthday

*****

Lloyd swears they were trying to give Master Wu a good birthday.

It just didn't look like that.

Celebration ideas had started weeks earlier, even months. Lloyd even planned it all out with paper and pen! But somehow, somewhere in that beautifully made plan something had sent a domino of destruction.

"What are we going to do?" Nya yelled, her hands flying in the air as she paced. "We don't have a cake, we don't have presents, we don't even have anything to show that we even noticed it was his birthday!"

"Oh no, you're freaking out." Jay's hands began to fan around his face as he watched his girlfriend. "When you freak out I freak out!"

"Calm down both of you!" Lloyd tried to grasp the situation. "Zane, how much time do we have?"

Zane paused for a second before responding. "Five minutes and thirty two seconds." He answered.

He winced. "Okay, not as much time as I would have liked. Is the cake salvageable?"

Cole raised the pan. The cake looked fine. It looked great actually. It's just when he tapped his earth hammer into the baked food. A loud almost metal twang split the air. "Unless you want Wu to get dentures than I think we're toast." Cole dropped the cake with a huff. There was a loud boom and a crack formed in the tile of the kitchen. Cole stared wide-eyed at it.

"Face it Lloyd, this parties a bust." Kai sighed, leaning back against the counter.

"And whose fault is that?" Nya inquired, her hands on her hips as she stared her brother down.

Kai's mouth dropped. "Well it's not mine!" He said defensively.

"Uh, who failed to buy Wu's gift because he was too busy staring at his reflection in the mirror?" Jay snapped.

"Well I wasn't the one whose destroyed the couch!" Kai retorted, his hands flying to the remains of the living room. Where their love seat used to be was a pile of sizzling ash.

"May I ask who decided to change the chemical balance of my cake?" Zane's usually calm eyes were piercing. "My recipe was perfect until someone ruined it!"

  Cole gasped. "How dare you!"

"Cole! It's literally the same density as a brick!" Nya said in exasperation.

"Maybe if you spent all day at the animal hospital because you almost killed Wu's chicken we wouldn't be in this mess!"

"I didn't kill him!" Nya protested.

  "That's why I said almost."

"Well at least I didn't came back with a parking ticket and a restraining order!" Nya rounded on her brother.

Kai glared daggers back. "Go bark at your boyfriend! He destroyed half the power line!"

Jay scowled, puffing out his chest as he tried to go on his toes so he could stare Kai in eyes without having to look up. "I don't appreciate your accusatory tone!"

"I'd use a different one if I wasn't trying to accuse you of something!"

"STOP!" Lloyd threw his hands in the air. You know those movies where everyone pauses when someone yells for their attention? It's not realistic. No one even glanced his way as they continued arguing.

Suddenly Lloyd was made are of my uncle standing in the doorway. Silently watching the fight- well their fight, Lloyd's hands are clean here- with an almost amused expression on his face.

He watched as tempers flared more and more, slowly turning and grabbing the tea pot form the counter. The old man patterned into a small room, sliding the dividers closed and lighting a small little fire, placing some tea leaves and water inside before resting it over the flames. He sat down and crossed his legs. Meditating calmly as the sounds of angry yells faded away.

"What a perfect birthday." He said calmly to himself.
