Day 1: "The Greatest Pleasure Of Life Is Love"

October 1st 2020
Prompt: inspired by funny meme or book quote.
(Don't look at the meme yet if you want the fun little surprise of humorous dialogue.)

Title is quote from Sir William Temple.

Nya couldn't help but smile as she wiggled her fingers, letting the light reflect off of the beautiful aquamarine gem in her engagement ring. Jay had skipped over video game time just so he could get a part time job so he could save up. It had taken longer than it would've the average person since he was a ninja and had to skip work hours often.

"It's beautiful, Jay." Nya said for the thousandth time, pecking him on the cheek. Jay's face blushed raspberry as he coughed in his nervousness. They made their way across the courtyard, special smiles on their faces as they stared at each other.

"Not as beautiful as you." He replied. He winced. "Sorry, was that too cheesy?"

Nya laughed. A musical noise to Jay's ears as he leaned in for another kiss.

"EW!" They both turned to see Cole standing there. He was snacking on one of the mini apple cinnamon cakes Zane had made for his anniversary with Pixal the next day (which was going to now be his funeral when Zane find out).

Lloyd popped his head in, curious why Cole was making extensive gagging noises, ensuring his dramatic cheese-resistant friend was not choking on his stolen cake. Lloyd was always a little more observant than Cole and his jaw dropped when he saw the ring.

"Is that-" He gaped.

Nya smiled and nodded, glancing at Jay with adoration in her eyes.

Cole's response was different than Lloyd's intended congratulations. He cracked up. "Kai's going to kill you!"

Lloyd didn't bother denying it. That's what you get when you make it a surprise for everyone in the family.

Jay scowled. "Thanks a lot." He whined to his best friend. "You're supposed to be supporting me!"

"No ones getting between Kai and his anger issues." Cole said honestly. "I like my limbs in my joints."

Nya decided to keep the ring under the down low to see when and how long it would take the rest of the team to notice. She went out for lunch with Skylor and after some exaggerated gesturing with her hand Skylor finally caught sight of the piece of jewellery. She then proceeded to scream and dropped the dish she was holding.

Pixal was the second female to notice when they were repairing the monastery's defence system. Her response was more a-matter-a-fact. "I'm glad Jay finally succumbed to the pressure of his brothers and took on the social convention of engagement as your relationship grows more intimate." She told Nya with a calm smile.

It was during dinner with the rest of the ninja that the engagement was truly revealed. Zane had cooked so they were enjoying a pleasant stir fry with a side of squash soup.

"Did you decide on buying an expensive engagement symbol or did Jay finally propose to you?" Zane questioned causally as he passed the salad to Kai. The bowl slipped from Kai's hands and dropped unceremoniously on Lloyd's lap as the fire ninja whipped to stare at his sister.

"Seriously?" Lloyd complained, whipping off dressing as Nya sheepishly flashed the ring.

Mumbles of congratulations rose as Kai, who wasn't all that surprised, slumped in his seat. "I wish you asked me first." He grumbled to Jay.

Jay gave him a confused look. "I'm sorry Kai, I didn't realize! But you're my brother and quite frankly not my type."

Nya let out a snort at her fiancé's words, taking his hand and pressing it to her cheek. "He means he wanted you to ask for his blessing."

"Oh..." Jay's cheeks flushed and the ninja erupted in snickers as Kai's scowl deepened. "Um....can I have your blessing?"

Kai raised his nose to the air haughtily. "I don't know..." His reluctance was cut off as he was knocked over the head with a bamboo staff from his teacher. Master Wu sent him a pointed look.

"Fine!" Kai snapped. "I give you my blessing or whatever."

Jay's face split with a grin. Nya squeezed his hand. "Now we just have to get my parents."

He visibly paled as the meal continued, Kai's whines splitting through the amused atmosphere.

"Am I really not your type?"

Note*****
The quote was from my calendar and conveniently it was about love!

I hope you all enjoyed the first day of Flump/Flufftober!
