"Why not hear the birds, walk the dawn?" they'd say,
But I stayed in the darkness, keeping it at bay.
The world, a web, and I was the fly,
Now I see why they warned before I try.
"Don't trust their smiles," they whispered slow,
"They'll leave you alone when the cold winds blow."
I laughed at their caution, thought I knew best,
Now I see they were right, more than the rest.
Their words lingered softly, a truth wrapped tight.
How did I not see they were right most nights?
Yet, though I weighed my choices, cautious of the fall,
I stumbled into darkness, unsure of it all.
