Pretty Flower

"How are you feeling?" Sam spoke from the front seat of the taxi.

Lilly smiled at Sam through the reflection of the front window mirror.

Sam knew the smile was fake but decided to believe it anyway so he didn't have to think of the real feelings behind it. Lilly hadn't been acting right. She had been ignoring reality... Somehow that made things scarier. More real. If Lilly was too afraid to accept a situation for what it was, that meant the situation was worst case. And if that was true, Sam knew for a fact that they'd be dead within the day.

When Sam watched that first restroom, when all of this had started, he knew he was getting into a dangerous world. A world out of his control. The thing he feared more than anything. Chaos. Something Alonzo seemed to strive in. Sam was a 19 year old kid with an eyepatch. There was nothing more to him than that. Even his darkness couldn't compete with real darkness. Sam was no psychopath. Honestly he never thought there would be a day that he wanted to be. But the truth was, he was a messed up kid from Ohio. A kid who had been through things that most couldn't dream of. Shit that would mess up anyone, but that didn't make him a killer. That made him a hallow shell. Sam didn't know what he was, but he could only act like he was something he wasn't for so long. The honest truth was that Sam was afraid. He didn't want to die.

This was refreshing to Sam because for the longest time, that wasn't the case. But for the first time ever, he had something the was bigger than himself. Lilly. And he didn't want to lose that.

Peggy was dead. Lilly looked down at her phone again to make sure she had read the message correctly, but yeah. That's what it said. Her college had emailed her to let her know that her roommate had been found in the dumpster just outside her dorm building. She had no sign of struggle or suffering. According to the school, the death had seemed to be peaceful. The cause of death had not been released yet, but Peggy was dead.

Lilly didn't know how to feel about this. She had been very angry at Peggy. That much was true, but she had not wanted her dead. Atleast, not by anyone else's hands. Honestly, Lilly found it relieving that she hadn't been the one to kill her. She was so sure that she'd slip up again. But it seemed that wasn't the case. She had almost done it, but no. Peggy was killed by someone else. Lilly smiled, joyfully. The news almost excited her. She hadn't killed her friend! She was innocent. Clean of her blood. The police had penned the stabwound as being done by her attackers and then penned Peggy's death on them too. The situation had cleaned itself up. She was untouched by it. Free. If Alonzo was going to try to kill Lilly, he needed to do better than that. At the moment he was making Lilly's life a lot easier. Lilly had to write down a testimony about the attack and no further investigation was needed. That was all.

Lilly had never gotten off that scott free before. It felt good. She definantly felt need for celebration. The one thing she was not happy about was that she'd be getting a new roommate. Honestly she'd rather just live with Sam, but that was against campus policy. Bullshit in Lilly's opinion, but not her call. She was also offered counseling from the school, but she declined it. She did not want a therapist anywhere near her head. There were to many valuable secrets hidden away that did NOT need to be dug back up.

Lilly had actually had quite enough college. It had done her no good at all. She'd gotten anything important done. She barely went to class and honestly it just distracted from what she really wanted to do.

Kill.

She needed to talk to Sam about it, but Lilly had already made up her mind. The two of them would get out of shitty Ohio and find a place where the two of them could be alone. They would live in a small town or in the country. Somewhere where they could be off the grid. Somewhere where they could be free. They'd run their own redroom. That could be their source of income. They could be happy. They could live their own life. All she had to do was prove it. Sam was obviously distracted at the moment. He was scared. She would show him that he didn't need to be.

Or maybe SHE should have been.

"Alrighty then." The taxi driver spoke up in an Alstralian accent. "You two are the ones who pissed off Alonzo, right?"

Sam froze in his seat. He didn't know what he would have to do next, but he was more than prepared.

"Don't get your panties in a twist there, Sammy. I ain't here to cause an issue. My names Marvin Grigs. I'm a friend of sorts." Marvin turned his skinny face to smile at Sam. "You might also know me as Guest3457."

Sam did some quick examinations. Marvin looked thin and boney. Not very strong. He wore a leather vest over his button up jean shirt, and leather. Tight pants to complete the set. He didn't seem to be a threat. Sam could easily outdo him if necisary.

"Now, I'll tell you kiddos, you've pissed off a cult leader. That's not a good thing. That's a straight ticket to being hunted for the rest of your life. If you aren't careful, you'll end up on Alonzo's pole." Marvin pulled a pack of Camel cigarettes out of his back packet, taking his eyes way off the road, nearly knocking a biker into a building. Once he had cigarettes in hand, he flipped the casing open and grabbed one in one swoop. The movement looked perfectly coreographed and was rather impressive. Especially since he did it all in one hand. Marvin glanced over at Sam as he put the cigarette into his mouth. "I'd offer you one, pal, but cigarrette prices have gone through the roof." He frowned.

Sam shook his head. "Thanks, but I didn't want one anyway."

"Alrighty kids, here's what's goin' down. I'mma drop you off at college, then I'mma come back in one day. You're gonna have all your asprtments in order and then we'll be outa here before the old so in so catches up. Does that sound doable?"

Sam looked back at Lilly who simply shrugged in response. Sam looked back at Marvin. "How on earth are we supposed to trust you."

"I don't have to help you out, but I'll tell you, you're dead if you stay here. But it's no skin off my bones either way." He smirked.

"I guess that's true."

"I'll tell you what. I'll be here noon, tomorrow. If you wanna get in, get in. If not, ok." He grinned at Sam. Sam noticed at that moment, he hadn't lit his cigarette. Infact, while observing him, Sam noticed that it didn't even look like he owned a liter.

"Sounds good, I guess." Marvin was right. As much as Sam could hope, the two of them couldn't fight off an army. The question was now, "Why are you helping us?"

Marvin chuckled, but didn't respond.

"Marvin?"

Silence.

Then things just felt awkward.

"YOU CAN'T JUST DO THIS TO ME!" Betty Bowler, now in a grey jumpsuit, screamed as she yanked and pulled her arm to try and free herself from the table. Not that that would be likely, as her arm was currently handcuffed to it. The more she pulled, the more her bullet wound hurt, the angrier she got and the more vengfulness that boiled her blood.

The calm officer walked into the room, holding nothing. His hair was messy, his uniform was unbuttoned, reveiling a t shirt underneath. He looked frustraited. "Miss, I just can't find anything on you. Are you from here?"

"Let me go..." She responded. Her voice was full of rage.

"I'm not doing that... you shot and killed an officer... And the thing that confuses me, is that you don't even have a criminal record. You're clean. Completely clean."

"I'm not a criminal..."

"Why would you just throw your life away like this? This was a pointless venture... The thing that's strange is... I think you already knew that." He sighed. "The whole station has to mourn the loss of a friend today... And for what, there wasn't a purpose."

"I need... to see that video." Betty ignored him.

"What is with this video, lady... It doesn't exsist!" The offiser looked baffled. "You're a crazy person! That's the only reason I can think of."

"I'M. NOT. CRAZY." Betty slammed her fist on the desk. "Alonzo's trying to make me look crazy. He thinks he's gonna get away with this, but he's not!"

"ALONZO DOESN'T EXSIST! You're trying to find something that's not REAL! Can't you see that?!" The officer crossed his arms on the table. "It isn't real."

"Then why did that woman scream Hail Alonzo?!" Betty desperatly argued.

"I don't know, lady! MAYBE CAUSE YOU WERE POINTING A GUN AT HER!" He stood up and angrily shook his head. "You're refusing to see logic here... There's no point to argue this." He started to leave the room as he sighed.

"WAIT!" Betty jumped to her feet.

The officer shook his head and slowly turned to face her. "What?"

"Look in my top pants pocket. There's a torn up picture in it..."

"We found the pieces, Betty."

"If you put them back together, you'll see. I promise... I'm not lying. He killed my nephew. He's real. I swear he is."

"I don't know if-"

"Please... Just look. That's all I ask."

"Fine... I'll see what I can do." He shook his head and left the room.

And Betty was alone again... So... Alone...

Lilly found herself at her dorm room door for what could be possibly the last time. She felt... melencholli. She would actually miss her tiny home. Whether they left with Marvin or found their own way, they would have to leave this place. That made Lilly Sad. She walked in.

Inside her and Peggy's dorm was an unfamiliiar face. Someone who didn't belong. "Hey there, you must be Lilly! Hi I'm Jeanna Ward." She sounded kind and normal, but that made Lilly angry. Their she stood, next to Peggy's bed on Peggy's carpet on Peggy's side of the room.

Lilly would make quick work of her. She eye'd the rope under her bed, used to 'hang things,' and then quickly made her way to them.

"Are you not Lilly?" Jeana asked patiently.

Lilly ignored her and made her way to the bathroom. Behind the cabnet door, behind the body wash, behind the wood panel, in the wall, was a hammer that hung from two nails that had been put in by its use. She quickly removed the hammer and walked back into the dorm with it behind her back.

"Oh, that's right, you don't talk. It said that on my notes. It also said you're old roommate passed away. I'm so sorry about that." She frowned caringly. She was FSS. Lilly could see it in her eyes. There was nothing but plaster and glue that but something like her together. She wasn't even human. She was perfect.

Lilly quickly raised the hammer above her head.

Jeana nearly fell back in horror. She didn't even say anything. Her jaw dropped and she looked up at her demise with fear in her eyes. The hammer dropped down with ease, hitting her directly on the forehead, sending her sprawling to the floor. And her world went black.

Lilly readied her rope. It was time to show Sam what life could really be like for them.

---

Sam dropped the last peice of his past out of his bedroom window and watched as it crashed to the ground, shattering into peices. The computer had been destroyed. It felt... freeing to be rid of it, to finally release that part of his life into the world. To finally have nothing left of his past.

He walked to the closet to retreive his clothes, but as he looked through his hoodies, tshirts and jeans, he realized... they no longer felt like him. He grabbed a dress shirt and changed into it then picked up an old pair of black pants from his dirty laundry and put them on. Then he turned his attention to his shoes. There were his chucks and his tennis shoes, and there in the cornor were a pair of thick, black, leather, laceup shoes. They felt perfect, so he put them on.

He looked into the mirror to examined his new look. He felt so... proffesional... formal... handsom... real. He smiled, and at that moment, noticed the lack of tie. He didn't own a tie. Shit, it was nearly there. He sighed and walked away from the mirror.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock at his door. He walked over and answered it.

It was his RA. "SAM! DID YOU JUST THROW A HOLE ASS COMPUTER OUT OF YOUR WINDOW!?"

Sam nodded and smiled. He felt that he should take Lilly's silent approach at this moment.

The RA, Todd, had his jaw agape and angry written all over his face, but Sam simply didn't care. He felt so calm. He felt like he truely, at this moment, had nothing to lose.

Todd shook his head. "YOU COULD HAVE HIT SOMEBODY! Infact," He was going to be going on for awhile, it seemed. "That's why I found out about it! Travis messaged me that you smashed a BIRD! AND! ANNND YOU DAMGED THE BLACKTOP! That's school PROPERTY!"

It wasn't the first time Sam had killed the bird. "The bird should have moved." Sam shrugged.

Todd couldn't believe what he was hearing. "HOLY SHIT, SAM! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE THROWN A COMPUTER OUT OF YOUR WINDOW!"

"Actually, it was more than the computer. I also through out the monoter and the keyboard and the mouse." Sam grinned.

Todd stood, completely frozen. Completely in awe at Sam's complete lack of giving a shit. "I'm calling security, Sam."

"You can't do that, not yet. I need a few more hours." Sam looked back to see all of his stuff. "Maybe the rest of the night. Could we do this tomorrow morning?"

"You're incredible... No. I'm calling them right now." Todd pulled out his cell phone. In one motion, Sam grabbed the cellphone out of Todd's hand and chucked it out of his window. Todd screamed, "ARE YOU SERIOUSE! WHAT IS YOUR MALFUNCTION!" Sam wrapped an arm around his throat, chocking him in the process and quickly pulled him into his room and shut the door. Todd struggled to get free, but Sam found that he was much stronger than he had thought. He easily brought Todd to the floor and wrapped his legs around him. Todd could no longer move. And as the oxygen left his brain, he only felt fear and confusion. He had thought Sam was a nice guy. In fact, Sam had helped him with homework on multiple occasions. Maybe he couldn't say Sam was a friend, but he was atleast an aquantince. Todd thought, I guess mom was right, you really don't know who someone is. That would be his last thought. Nothing poetic, nothing meaningfull. Todd just fell unconciouse and then after a few moments, his heart stopped beating. That was Sam's first, real kill. Sam held onto his corpse longer than necisary. He was afraid that he'd let go too soon. That Todd would get up and fight back. Then, when Sam knew for sure that Todd was no longer with him, he let his corpse tumble to the floor.

Sam stood up from the floor and examined his work. He felt... Queezy. Not sick, but not not sick. He wasn't sure what to think, so he sat cross legged next to Todd. He touched his body, but it still felt normal. He wasn't dead. Obviously not. He was still warm. Sam felt relieved for a moment until he noticed Todd's eyes were just... open. He wasn't blinking or moving. He was dead. Sam wrapped his arms around his head. He felt panic build upin his chest and suddenly he was huperventalaiting. "Holy shit. Holy shit, holy shit, holy SHIT!" He pushed himself away from the body and into the cornor. He grabbed his trashcan and vomitted into it, as his entire body shook violently.

Todd was majoring in nursing. Sam knew thet. He was gonna be a nurse. He had high grades in all of his classes finally. It had taken him awhile to catch up, but he was finally really nailing it. Sam had helpped tutor him in his Mathmatics courses. Todd had bought him pizza for lunch once, too. He had been kind to Sam. Few people really were. And Sam had just ended his life. His body laid flat on the ground in front of him. Still. Unmoving. All potential, gone. And Sam was the one who had done it.

Then he saw it. A little, ugly, yellow clip on tie. Todd had been wearing a blue dress shirt and a yellow tie. Their rival schools colors. Todd had always been a fan of the wolveriens. He only went to Columbus for the Nursing program. One of the best in the world. But Sam wasn't thinking about that. He was thinking about the ugly, yellow clip on tie. Sam didn't own a tie.

One more trip to the thrift store. Just like Peggy would have wanted. She went to every thrift shop in a ten mile radious until she could find it. She had already checked the knives off of her list and a little kit to put them in. She had found a dress shirt and vest perfectly in her size. She had everything she needed, but she was missing just one more thing. A mask for Sam.

She was in the old costume section of an old thrift store just off 71. It looked old and nearly forgotten, but some how, it was still very much in buisness. There were princess dresses and Superhero oufits. She went through the entire bargan bin. Nearly everything, but she was having no luck. She angrily through a beat up old scream mask accross the aisle and leaned her face onto the shelf.

"Can I help you, ma'am?" Asked an employee from behind Lilly.

Lilly turned to face the employee. She was a young girl. She looked sweet and cute with black, curly hair and brown eyes, but she was too young for Lilly. Maybe a senior in highschool. Lilly smiled at her and gestured for the pen in the girls pocket. The girl happily handed it over to Lilly and Lilly quickly wrote the words, "Clown Mask" on her hand. She held her hand out to the girl and the girl looked down at it.

"Oh! Um, I don't think we have any out right now... but." The girl thought for a moment. "Is this important?"

Lilly nodded desperatly.

"Ok, well, there's one in the back, but we never put it out cause it's damaged and old and dirty. It's like, from the 90's I think. It's the only one I've got. Would that work?"

A smile filled Lilly's face and she nodded happily.

"Well, if you need it that bad, I'll just give it to you." The girl laughed and walked into the back of the store. A few moments passed and she walked back out holding a dirty clown mask. It was bent and gross and... perfect.

Lilly hugged the girl and picked her up in both arms. She kissed her cheek and took the mask into her hands. She looked up at the young girl and laughed.

The girl looked at her, slightly weirded out. "Ok then. Hope you like the weird mask." She started to leave the aisle, but Lilly stopped her and took the pen from her pocket. She quickly wrote on her other hand and showed it to the girl.

"You're welcome." She awkwardly smiled. "Um, if you come in again, my name is Bethany. Bye." Betheny nodded and walked away from the weird woman.

Lilly looked down at the mask and grinned. Everything was set. It was time to turn Sam into a killer.

---

Several hours passed and Sam found himself looking into the mirror. His outfit was complete. Tie and all. But he couldn't look away. He found that he feared the man he saw in the reflection. He questioned whether the path he was on was right anymore. Was he really capable of being the man Lilly wanted him to be? Could he actually be a psychopath? Could he kill?

Then there was a knock at his door. A dainty, small knock. Sam fearfully ran up to the body and quickly stuffed it under his bed. He threw his blanket over of it and staired down at it in fear. The knock repeated and he found himself suddenly sweating out of every pore. He clenched his fists and slowly made his way to his door. He closed his eyes as the word, "Hello?" escaped his lips.

There was no response.

He gently put his ear to the door, but he heard nothing. A tear rolled down his face as his hand travelled to the cold doornob and began to turn it. Terror shot through his body when he heard the door click and open. And as it swung open, he realised that whoever he saw next would change the course of his life.

It was Lilly.

She took his hand.

They walked from his dorm to hers.

They walked into her room

He saw what she had done.

It was a girl he had never seen before, tied to her bed. There was a gag in her mouth. And she was awake.

"Lilly... I-"

"Shhhh." Lilly took Sam's hand and led him to a chair that she had set out just for him.

He followed her actions without argument. He didn't know what she was about to do, but he knew he trusted her. That's what matters. "Ok." He sat down and faced the poor girl, tied to the bed. He didn't try to help, he didn't even worry for her. He just watched Lilly in his periferal. He wanted to know every moment she made. Sam noticed a desk that Lilly was now using as a table that was sitting at the head of the bed. On the top of the desk was a selection of kitchen knives and a single hammer. Lilly put on her clown mask.

The process was an excruciating six hours. And Sam watched it all, completely mesmerized by the process. He watched every stab, rip, tear, crack, pull and cut. There were parts where he felt the urge to look away, like when Lilly cut into the knee and slowly bent it until it was at a right angle to the side. There were even two times that Sam actually threw up. It wasn't easy to watch. But he watched it. Every minute.

It wasn't the same as when Alonzo did it. Lilly made it into an artistic expression. Every swing and slice sand a beautiful song that Sam could not yet understand, but he heard it nontheless. And he listened to every note.

At several times throughout the night, there was a knock at the door and someone asking if everything was ok. Sam would tell them that they were watching a movie, or something. Quickly blow it off. He didn't need any interuptions on a night like this. This was their night. No one elses.

Finally, the girl stopped bleeding.

Sam didn't say a word. He didn't know what could possibly be said after that. Maybe that was why Lilly didn't talk. Doing something like this, didn't need words. Atleast when she did it.

Lilly faced Sam and smiled. She worried he would run, or hate her, but instead he stayed seated. She reached her hand into the corpse, covering her hand in blood, then quickly wrote "Welcome to the Funhouse" on the wall with it. She turned to Sam and held out her bloody hand to him.

Sam looked down at it and sighed.

Lilly's eyes pleaded.

Pause.

"You want to do this for real?" Sam met her gaze.

She nodded.

He stood up and took her hand. "Ok."

She put her bloody hand on his face, took off her mask and pulled him into a kiss. The kiss last mear moments, but little did they know the bond that they had just created.

Lilly pulled the clown mask out from the desk drawr and placed it on Sam's face.

Sam went to remove it, but caught his reflection in Peggy's mirror. He was... beautiful. He was Sam.
