One week later.
The roads winded together like tethered rope, each street, blending into the last like a non ending, repetitive pattern. Each sight to be seen different yet so much the same as the last one visible. Every dark night, just as bright as every light day. Everything blended that way on the road trip to nowhere. Everything felt like nothing, and nothing felt like everything. I tell this to you in this way because Lilly really wanted her trip around america to sound poetic, but the truth was that they pretty much slept in the back seat of Marvin's taxi without a shower between them and no money to there name. Marvin didn't care though. He was making money either way and so far there had been absolutely no sign of Alonzo or the Circus. In fact, really nothing interesting had occurred since they had left. They had stopped at a gas station and shot up the place so that they could get some food, but besides that, the trip had remained quite uneventful. So, when the car finally ran out of gas in the middle of a stretch of road in the Missouri dessert, Marvin actually felt a bit excited. Before of course realizing the massive problem with the situation. They were in the middle of nowhere with a few bottles of water and a pack of red vines that was half empty.
"Well..." Marvin persed his lips and cleared his throat.
Sam noticing that the car had come to a stop and slowly sat up from his previouse sleeping position. "Well what?" He said half awake.
"Well," Marvin continued. "We are finally out of gas."
"Well, are we in Las Vegas yet?" Sam pressed as he wiped the remainder of the tirdness from his eyes.
"Far from it, kiddo. This is Missouri. We're about, I'd say, a few hundred thousand miles from Las Vegas." He itched his nose. "Course it could be more, I'm no mathmatition as it is."
"Wait..." Sam started to put the peices together as he looked out the window. "So we're stranded... in the middle of the desert."
"Fun fact, it actually isn't a desert, it's actually a plain, it's just that-"
"Marvin..." Sam shook his head. "Why didn't you get gas at the last gas station." Sam felt rage building up in his chest, but he wasn't ready to let it blow just yet.
"Well, I don't exactly have any money and you can't really rob a gas pump. If you shoot it it'll just explode and that doesn't help anyone. I mean it's be cool, probably." Marvin turned around and faced Sam with amusment on his face.
There was a long pause.
"MARVIN!"
Lilly shot up, scared awake from Sam's sudden anger.
Sam felt his fists shake. "WE HAVE NO FOOD OR CAR AND WE ARE STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A DESERT! WHAT THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW!?"
There was another long pause.
He shrugged. "We have red vines."
"Holy shit... I'm going to kill you." Sam opened his door and jumped out of the car.
Lilly followed suit to see her big buff pirate boyfriend in action.
Sam ripped open Marvin's door and pulled him out with all his might. This was considerbly easier than it should of since Marvin wasn't a fan of seat belts. All could have been avoided otherwise. Marvin fell onto the sandy ground and quickly tride to crawl away, but he knew deep down that such an accomplishment would be unreachable in this circumstance. Sam jumped on top og him and flipped him over like an unfinished pancake. Marvin flopped onto the ground and looked up at Sam with fear in his eyes. If Alonzo wanted these guys dead, they must have been quite dangerous as it was. Marvin was not excited to see what that might mean.
Sam back handed Marvin, leaving a red mark on his cheek. "I don't even like red vines!"
Lilly liked this. This was nice. The angle, right behind Sam with his cute butt visible, The violence, the strength, everything. Lilly blushed. The situation heavilly excited her.
"Then why did you steal them!" Marvin argued as tears filled his eyes.
"I don't know, Marvin! I felt powerfull! It felt right in the moment!" Sam slapped his the other way, leaving a lesser red mark on his other cheek.
"THAT DOESN'T MAKE SINCE!" Marvin sobbed. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to not get gass!"
"It's too late for that, Marvin! We're gonna die out here now!" He flipped him back onto his stumache and bent his arm behind his back, ready to break it. "But not before you do!"
Lilly smiled wide, ready for the show that she was about to get.
But then, something unexpected happened. A car suddenly pulled up behind Marvin's taxi. It was a purple, sheak Mini Cooper with white stripes. The three of them looked back at the car and suddenly felt fear fill their bodies. The car door opened and a suited man stepped out. Then... "Hey there! What's happening here?" It was a missionary. He had brown hair. He looked concerned, but he wasn't even slightly threatening.
Sam spoke up first. "We ran out of gas."
"Ok." The missionary continued. "And why are you on top of that man there?"
Sam looked down at Marvin who met his gayze and then back at the missionary. "We're gay."
"Oh!" The missionary smiled. "Well, good for you guys!"
Suddenly a second suited man emerged from the other side of the car. He had red hair. Other than that, he looked nearly identical to the other missionary. "Is everything ok Elder Christian?"
"Yeah! All good here, Elder Smith! They're just gay!" The first missionary, Apparently called Elder Christian, called back.
"Oh wow! That's really nice! I havn't seen anyone of the LGBT community down here in forever." The other missionary made his way over to the first to meet the strangers.
"Are you apart of all this, Ma'am?" Elder Christian asked Lilly.
Lilly looked over to her boys and then back to the missionaries. Feeling deviant, she shook her head.
"Oh..." Elder Christian nodded, very confused. He decided to not focus on it. He turned to the other two. "So, gas! Why don't we help you folks get your hands on some of that?" He smiled.
Sam nodded and got off of Marvin, then 'kindly' helped his 'boyfriend' off of the ground. Marvin begrudgingly followed suit, but refused to stand anywhere near Sam.
"There's a gas station down the road a little ways. Myself and Elder Smith will get you guys down there, get some gas and bring you back. Then you guys can get back on your way." Elder Christian smiled a genuin smile and waited patiently for a response.
Sam felt that a bit odd, but decided to go with it. "Sure... thanks." He nodded.
"There should be enough room in the back for you guys. Just one of you will have to hold the plate of cookies. One of our ward members, sister Breckstan, made us chocolate chip cookies, and they are just scrumptious. You guys are welcome to eat some if you'd like." Elder Smith chipped in.
Marvin leaned his head over to Sam and whispered into his ear. "We should just kill these morons and take their car."
But Sam didn't want to do that. For some reason, he found them very indeering. Kind even. "No, it sounds like they're part of a cult, it might draw too much attention."
"It's not a cult, don't worry." Elder Christian replied over his shoulder.
Sam now worried how much they had just heard. Lilly was just along for the ride. She took Sam's hand and leaned on his shoulder.
Again, the two missionaries found this very odd, considering the two men were gay, but it wasn't their buisness so they didn't push.
Elder Smith opened the back door for the three to get in. "Here ya go!"
The three got into the car and realised really quickly why it was called a Mini. The back was cramped and impossible to move around in. Sam felt like a clown in a clown car, but was not disapointed by the very delicious chocolate chip cookies.
"So where you three headed? I'm assuming you're not from around here since you ran out of gas. Anyone from around here knows never to forget to fill their tanks on these long roads. Don't wanna get left out here." Elder Smith asked over his shoulder.
"Um." Marvin started up. "Las Vegas."
Sam punched him in the side, just enough to leave a bruise but not alert anyone else.
"Ooh Las Vegas. They've got such pretty lights down there. It's really a pretty place." Elder Christian started.
"Oh, and the desert down there has to be gorgeouse." Elder Smith responded.
"I bet it's pretty hot though!" The two laughed, but the three of them did not understand the joke.
Marvin tried his best to continue the conversation as to not stir up other, more dangerous questions. "You guys havn't been down there before?"
"Oh no. It's against our religion to gamble and stuff." Elder Smith responded. "But I bet you guys'll have a blast!"
Sam didn't like how they talked. They weren't judging them or anything and Sam couldn't find anything wrong with them that he could dislike. He needed to dislike something about everyone. That's what gave him the power to kill. He had to dislike them. But the only thing he didn't like about these guys was how nice they were. "What's wrong with you guys?" He slipped, suddenly realising that that came off ruder than he meant too and they really needed that gas.
"Oh, I'm sorry sir. Did we say something to offend you? We normally only hang around our church or people who want to talk to us. I'm sorry if we came across judgmental." Elder Christian caught Sam's eye through the rearview mirror.
You didn't, that's the problem... "I just mean... um." Sam caught Marvin glaring at him from the cornor of his eye. "Hhhh... nevermind."
"No sir, go ahead. We won't be mad." Elder smith turned to face Sam with a smile.
Guilt hit Sam's chest. "I just mean... um... I um..." He looked down at the cookies. "I don't know how you guya havn't finished these bad boys yet." He fake laughed. "They're, like, holy shit man! They're good." He smiled back.
"Oh wow! So happy you like them!" Elder smith chuckled. "If it's no trouble though sir. Could you keep the cussing to a minimal around us. If not, it's no problem or anything. We just don't really like it."
Sam's ears heated quickly as embarrasment filled his face. "Yeah... sure..."
Lilly burst into laughing.
This again, cunfused the missionaries, but they didn't say anything about it.
"We're here lady's and gents! Gas R Us!" Elder Christian pulled his Mini Cooper into the gas station and up to a pump. "We'll get this for you guys, don't even worry about it."
Marvin smiled in disbelief. "Wow, thanks guys!"
"It's our pleasure, sir. We wanna make sure you guys get where you need to go safe and sound." And with that, The Elders made their way into the gas station convienience store to purchase gas tanks.
The rest of the experience was much of the same. Friendly conversation, awkward moments and an all around strange experience. The Elders dropped the three off by their taxi and waved as they drove off into the sunset.
"Well, that just saved our asses!" Marvin chuckled as he hopped into the front seat of his car.
Sam didn't feel as good about the experience, though. He felt as if he had just used good people. He felt glad that they didn't kill the two missionaries. He hoped that they got to live long happy long lives. The thing that didn't feel right was that he didn't think his companions felt the same way. And it scared him that he was becoming more like them. If they hadn't shown up when they did, Marvin would be dead by Sam's hands... And that made Sam feel... he wasn't sure. But he didn't think it was positive.
When Lilly went to rest her head on him again, he hesitated to wrap his arm around her. He loved her, that much was true... but did she love him? Maybe she was just using him. Maybe she was just planning the right moment to kill him. That's what he would never really know for sure. She was a mystery that could not be solved. And that scared him.

"Not Guilty." The judge slammed his gavel down on the pulpit and with that final declaration, Betty felt relief like she had never felt before.
She stood up in awe and felt tears role down her face. "Holy shit..." THe strangest part was that she was one hundred percent guilty, but jury and judge agreed that she had saved more lives than she had ended. She would be pardoned from her crime by the state of Ohio. She was a free woman.
As soon as Betty walked out of the courtroom, Trevor ran up to her and wrapped his arms around her. He lifted her off the ground and spun her around. "Oh my gosh! I knew it! I just knew it!"
"Put me down!" She laughed as he spun her.
He followed her order and put her back on the ground. "I TOLD YOU I WAS GONNA GET YOU PARDOND! I just knew it! I just knew it!" He cheered.
"You did. I can't believe it, seriously... like... it's just incredible. I was sure my life was over... You saved me." She smiled at him and stared into his eyes. Her smile faded as she realised what he had actually done for her. He had just gave her the chance to actually bring Alonzo down. To avenge her Collin. To be the best aunt ever. She kissed him. She didn't know she was going to kiss him, but she did.
Trevor also didn't expect it and quickly pulled away. "Whoa." He immediatly regretted this decision.
"Oh." Betty blushed. "I um..." She looked away. "Um... I'm sorry."
Trevor looked away. "No, um... No it's fine." He faked a smile. "I just didn't want... Why did you just kiss me?"
"Because... you saved my life. You stopped me from geoing to prison." She looked back up at him.
"That's what I thought. Ok." He smiled at her. "Ok. If you need me, I've been working on the Alonzo case and I really think you can help out with it, so come by the police station whenever you have time. I rented you a hotel room to stay at the Holiday Inn in Downtown, and I can call you a taxi there if you need it."
That was not the reaction Betty was expecting. "Um... no, my car is here, so I'll just take that..."
"Oh yeah," He faked a laugh. "I already knew that." He sighed. "Ok cool. I'll see you tomorrow then." He nodded and walked away. Obviously distressed.
Betty went to follow him, but felt it best that she didn't. So she went to her car. It wasn't too far so she made it there in about a minute flat. Then she saw something that caught her off gaurd. A single Dafadil was placed in her windsheilf wiper. She smiled. That wasn't the only thing there though, She saw a note sitting inside her car. It was a playing card. A 2 of hearts. But the two was crossed out and replaced with a heart. She opened the car door that was already unlocked and picked up the note. It simply read, "One sister down, and one to go." She felt her hands shake. Then she flipped the card over. On the back were a pair of lips that were taped down and the words, "Kiss me." Betty screamed and threw the card away from herself as she collapsed against the car behind her.
The thing that scared her the most was the lipstick that covered the lips. 'Cherries in the snow.' Angella's favorite shade.
